ALICE MARIE BUNTING, 75, of Salisbury, formerly of Whitehaven, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at Salisbury Center: Genesis ElderCare after a long illness. A funeral service will be held Thursday at noon at Messick’s Funeral Home in Bivalve, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron.

ADDISON E. 'AC' CAREY JR. of Millsboro died Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at home. He was 26. He was an electrician’s apprentice. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ronald C. Lynch in January 2001. Carey is survived by his wife, Catherine E. Carey; three daughters, Kristina, Allison and Pamela, all at home; his parents, Addison E. and Nancy Carey of Millsboro; and a sister, Crystal O’Neal of Oak Orchard. A funeral service was held Sunday, March 18 2001. Burial was in the Roxana Cemetery. DONALD J COON of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Dagsboro died Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at the St. Clair Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was 59. He was born in Albany, N.Y., the son of the late James P. and Jane Shultis Coon. Coon worked in the Systems Department for PPG Industries in Pittsburgh, retiring in 2001 after 31 and one-half years of service, incuding 15 years working for PPG Industries in Cheswold. He was a member of the Mt. Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh and the Oak Orchard-Riverdale American Legion Post No. 28. He served in the Army during the Vietnam war era. Coon is survived by his wife of 36 years, Penny Smith Coon; one son, Skip Coon of Philadelphia, Pa.; one daughter, Allison Fleming and her husband, Ray of Pittsburgh; one sister, Marcia Hollingsworth of Harlingen, Texas; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Fleming and Alexus Fleming. A funeral service was held Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro. The Rev. Dr. James C. Van Der Wall officiated. EDNA C. DANIELS, 78, of Millsboro died Friday, March 16, 2001, at Bebee Medical Center in Lewes. GLADYS GERTRUDE DORMAN, 91, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at the home of her nephew and great-niece in Fruitland. EVELYN E. DOWNEY of Millsboro died Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at the Millsboro Nursing Home. She was 74. She was born in Selbyville, a daughter of the late James and Ida Lewis. Until retiring she was a cafeteria worker at Phillip Showell Elementary School in Selbyville and also a hostess for McDonald’s in Millsboro. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Selbyville and United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin, in 1970. Downey is survived by a son, James Calvin Downey of Dagsboro; a daughter, Peggy Lee Baker of Selbyville; a sister, Rosalie Werenecke of Alexandria, Va.; two grandsons, Richard L. Venables Jr. of Selbyville and Brian J. Downey of Dagsboro; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held on Friday, March 16, 2001. Burial was in the Roxana Cemetery. RAYMOND S. GOSLEE of North Palm Beach died Friday, March 2, 2001. He was 94. Born in 1906 in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of Clementine Katherine “Teenie Kate” Short Goslee, formerly of Lewes. He lived most of his life in Delaware and Florida and had been a resident of North Palm Beach for the last 26 years. Goslee earned bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and the Wharton School of Business. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and Phi Beta Kapa. He, with a college friend, started the radio station in Philadelphia that became the beginning of the CBS Broadcasting Network. He was the assistant chief engineer for the renovation and additions to Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia and was assistant chief engineer for the Roebling Corporation for the construction and engineering of the Golden Gate Bridge. During World War II, he served his country as an engineering consultant to the Navy Department. After the war he and his wife, Anna, moved to Millsboro where they owned Goslee Ford. He was an active civic leader, being a member and past president of the Rotarians, Masonic Lodge, Lulu Temple Shrine, director of Home Savings Bank, a member of the school board, and vestry of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Millsboro. He was involved with the Republican Party, both locally and nationally, ultimately serving as advisor to Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower and Richard M. Nixon. He will be greatly missed by the many friends and family whose lives he touched. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anna Dodd; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Charles Cassidy of Tequesta, Fla.; and his grandchildren, Catherine Anne Cassidy of Tequesta and W. Scott Arnold of Jupiter, Fla. A funeral service was held March 17, 2001 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Millsboro. Burial was in Mariner’s Bethel Church Cemetery, Ocean View.

TERESA ANNETTE GREEN, 30, of Rhodesdale died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at University Hospital. A funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Greater Mount Zion Pentecostal Church in Bethlehem. LAUREN MAE GREIF of Ocean View died Wednesday, March 14, 2001. She was 10 years old. Lauren was a fifth-grader at Lord Baltimore Elementary School. Lauren was a teacher’s aide at Ms. Terry’s daycare-preschool. She also watched children at her home from time to time. She particularly enjoyed children under the age of 2. She loved to bake, make jewelry and create crafts to give to her family and friends. She had a loving nature toward all animals. Lauren taught many people both young and old love, strength, courage and hope. Lauren received the Camp Can Do Coolest Member Award for Cabin 6 for the week of Aug. 1 through Aug. 8, 1998. She also received the State of Delaware Award for outstanding student achievement after overcoming obstacles, presented by the Delaware Elementary School Principals Association and the Delaware House of Representatives on June 17, 1999. She received a music award from Mrs. Howard on Feb. 19, 1999. She received a Certificate of Achievement for Outstanding Improvement at Lord Baltimore Elementary School on June 21, 1999. Lauren received the Most Valuable Player for Field Hockey Award on Feb. 26, 2000 and a Certificate of Completion Award for field hockey at camp in 2000. She was presented with a trophy for second place in the 2000 Fire Prevention Essay Contest from the Millville-Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company. Lauren received a certificate for being named to the Honor Roll on Dec. 13, 2000. She is survived by her loving mother, Bo Greif, Joe Toner and her brother Kyle of Ocean View. She is survived by her loving father, Harry Greif, and Kim Davenport and Chris and Sarah of Perry Hall, Md. WILLIAM JOHN 'JACK' HASTINGS of Millsboro died at his home on Wednesday, March 14. He was 60. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of the late John William and Rose Hastings. Hastings worked for Intervet in Millsboro since their opening and before that at NCR in Millsboro for 15 years. He loved his job. He was a member of the Harley Owners Group (HOGS) of Seaford and was a former charter member of BPOE Lodge 2458 of Seaford. He enjoyed traveling, riding his Harley, reading and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He was a friend to everyone. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Norma Jean King Hastings; daughter, Norma J. Hickman and her husband Gary of Harbeson; two grandchildren, Lance G. Hickman and Kelsey Luray Hickman; two sisters, Jean Mitchell and her husband Bill of Georgetown and Louise Hall of Seaford; father-in-law, Virgil King of Laurel; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Billy and Janet Shockley of Seaford; and nieces and nephews. PATRICIA ANN BREASURE HELMS, died Wednesday March 14, 2001 at the Aiken Regional Medical Center in Aiken, S.C. She was 61. She was born in Laurel. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen and sister, Janet Davidson. Helms is survived by her husband, Tony Helms; son, Jeff Helms of Lake Charles, La.; daughter, Denise Musick of Lexington, N.C.; two granddaughters, Megan Musick and Grace Helms; father and stepmother, Clinton and Emma Breasure of Frankford; four brothers, Jay, Wayne, Gerald and Jeffrey; two stepbrothers, Harold and Frank Esham; and nieces and nephews. FLO LONG HEYESEY of Hollywood, Fla., formerly of Roxana, died March 12, 2001. She was 91. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Mattie Long of Roxana. Heyesey is survived by her husband, Al Heyesey; a daughter, June Southard of San Josie, Calif.; a son, Robert Southard of Williamsburg, Va.; a sister, Madlyn Scott of Selbyville; and a brother, David Long of Ocean View. MARY HESTER HOLDEN, 68, of Snow Hill died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury following a long illness. JOHN R. HUDSON, of Dagsboro, died Thursday, March 15, 2001 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. He was 81. He was a son of the late John L. and Nina Lynch Hudson. Hudson and his brother were the owners and operators of Hudson Brothers Garage in Dagsboro for 40 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy. He was the first president of the Delaware Beach Buggy Association, later renamed DMS. He was a former member of the Dagsboro Town Council and honorary member of Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Company. Hudson is survived by his wife of 58 years, Edith C. Hudson; two sons, Gary “Smoky” Hudson of Virginia Beach, Va. and Van Hudson of West Chester, Pa.; a daughter, Penny Brown of Dover; a brother, Richard Hudson of Dabsboro; and seven grandchildren. DOROTHY A. LOWENTHAL of Bethany Crest, formerly Roxford, MP., died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at peace with the Lord, in the Dagsboro home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Anne Nuthall-Armbrust and Earl Armbrust. She was 87. Ms. Lowenthal, born Sept. 1, 1913 in Bethany Beach, was the daughter of the late Jacob and Annie K. Natter. She was buried at their side in the Mariner’s Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery in Ocean View. Service was held in the church sanctuary Saturday, March 17, 2001. Dorothy is known for bringing song, piano music and joy to the Boardwalk. In the late 1960s through the 1980s, she taught music, art and other subjects at various schools throughout the Indian River District and tutored children in their homes. She helped others with a smile, a word of encouragement and a lesson or two. Dorothy traveled to various parts of the world; and through the years walked in, outside and around the perimeter of God’s Kingdom. In January she decided that she wanted to be as sure about the way to Heaven as she was about the way to places she enjoyed like the local thrift shop or deli. So in the presence of family and friends she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior, being then clothed with the imperishable blood of Jesus. Mrs. Lowenthal was preceded in death by her parents, by her brother, Paul J. Natter, and by her former husbands, Charles W. Nuthall of Robbinsville, N.C. and James Lowenthal, a founder of the Mason-Dixon VFW Lodge at Quillen’s Point, Ocean View. EVELYN C. MCMANUS of Lewes died Friday, March 16, 2001 at the Beebe Medical Center. She had worked for 17 years in the cafeteria for the Cape Henlopen School District. She was a member of St. Edmonds Catholic Church and had been active in the choir; as teacher for the religious education classes; as a cantor and in the cafeteria of the original St. Edmonds School. She was predeceased by one son, Christopher McManus. McManus is survived by her husband of 54 years, David F. McManus Sr.; three sons, David F. McManus Jr. of Seaford; Timothy Shawn McManus of Roxana and Kevin Brian McManus of Dagsboro; one daughter, Margaret Anne McVey of Lewes; two brothers, William P. Hall of Frederick, Md. and H. Douglas Hall of Rockville, Md.; six grandchilren and three step-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held March 20, 2001. Internment was private in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Pilottown. GEORGIE M. MORRIS of Selbyville died Monday, March 12, 2001 at home. She was 97. She was born in Whitesville, a daughter of the late George W. and Minnie Ellingsworth Wells. She had worked for Peninsula Nurseries in Selbyville for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Oscar Morris “Roebuck” in 1987 and by a son, John Morris, in 1935. She is survived by two sons, Raymond Morris of Frankford and Edward “Sug” Morris of Selbyville; two daughters, Pauline Bourne of Millsboro and Betty Hudson of Berlin, Md.; a brother, Ray Wells of Frankford; two sisters, Lula Bradford of Bishopville, Md. and Myrtle Hudson of Selbyville; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. DONALD E. 'DOC' O'CONNOR died Saturday, March 17, 2001 at his home in Bethany Beach. He was 72. O’Connor, who was the son of the late George Edward and Mary O’Connor, was a native of Washington, D.C. and a long time resident of Montgomery County. He began his career with the C&P Telephone Company as an installer, rose to the level of supervisor in marketing for Bell Atlantic and was placed on loan to the National Democratic Party responsible for all communications during the 1960 and 1964 conventions. Following more than 40 years of service, he retired from Bell Atlantic and moved to Bethany Beach. He was active in the Fenwick Island Lions Club, the Irish America Club, Elks Club, Fenwick Island Yacht Club, Bayview Park Homeowner Association, the Sussex County Democratic Party, C&P Pioneers, and past president of the Wheaston Woods Swimming Pool and a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach. He was predeceased by a son, Thomas, and a sister, Mary Long. O’Connor is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Jeanne R. O’Connor, and their children, Donald Jr. of Mt. Airy, Md., Dianne of Bethany Beach, John and David of Gaithersburg, Md.; two sisters, Karen Cash and Patricia Lewis; and 10 grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21 at the Shrine of St. Jude, 12701 Velts Mill Road, Rockville, Md. Father Donald Worch will officiate. DONALD RICHARD ROLPH SR. of Millsboro, formerly of New Castle, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at home. He was 63. He was born in Rockland, the son of the late Elwood and Anna Culley Rolph. Rolph retired as plant manager in 1990 after 37 years of service with the Kaumagraph Corporation in Wilmington. He then worked for the Charcoal Pit Restaurants in Wilmington until August 2000. He was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Revis; a brother, Charles Rolph; and a son, David Rolph. Rolph is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sallie Burris Rolph; a son, Donald R. Rolph Jr. of New Castle; two daughters, Dona Rainier of Cecilton, Md. and Sandra Keele and her husband, Mark, of Newark; two brothers, Elwood R. Rolph Jr. of Wilmington and Louis Rolph of Newark; a sister, Barbara Taylor of Rowlette, Texas; and six grandchildren. MARGARET ELLEN DENMAN ROSE, 62, of Delmar died at home, Thursday, March 15, 2001, after a two-year battle with cancer. At her wishes, her remains were donated to the Maryland State Anatomy Board. Memorial services will be held at Wicomico Presbyterian Church in Salisbury on Thursday, March 22, at 7:00 p.m.; at Newton Presbyterian Church, Park and Vernon streets, Newton Corner, Mass., Saturday, March 31, 3:30 p.m.; and at Tecate Community Church on the grounds of Tecate Mission, Tecate, Calif., Saturday, April 7, at 3 p.m.. Her ashes will be interred in Bermuda Hundred Cemetery in Hopewell, Va., at a later date.

GEORGE A. 'RABBIT' STURGIS of Millsboro died Monday, March 12, 2001 at the Harrison House of Georgetown. He was 84. He was born in Nassawaddox, Va., the son of the late John and Sallie Wyatt Sturgis. He was employed by the Doxsee Clam Corporation in Lewes, retiring in 1981 after 40 years of service. He then worked for many years in yard maintenance for Bessie West. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Bailey Sturgis, in 1983. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters, Jim, John, Ernest, Ralph Sturgis, Ressie Dale, Mary Chandler, Sarah Wyatt and Jessie Sturgis. Sturgis is survived by two daughters, Clara Bailey of Chester, Md. and Minnie Mae Savage of Georgetown; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. ISREAL WALKER, 57, of Millsboro died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at his home. A funeral service will be held Thursday at noon at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.

SUZANNE L. WIELGOSZ, 60, of St. Michaels died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Michaels Chapel. Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home in Cambridge. Memorial donations can be made to the Saints Peter and Paul Building Fund, 215 Goldsbourough St., Easton, Md. 21601. Arrangements are being handled by Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home in Cambridge.

IRA L. 'WOODY' WOODARD JR. of Dagsboro died Friday, March 16, 2001 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. He was 75. He was a painting contractor and owned “Painting by Woodard.” He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach; Mason-Dixon VFW Post 7234 at Quillen’s Point in Ocean View; American Legion Post 24, Dagsboro. Woodward is survived by his wife, Joyce M. Woodard; three sons, Bill, Danny and Dennis; two daughters, Paula and Debbie; a brother, Benny; three sisters, Hazel Stokes, Mildred Johnson and Ann Schaich; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was offered March 20, 2001 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Millville Volunteer Fire Company’s Ambulance Fund.

ELEANORA L. YATES, 84, of Cambridge died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Chesapeake Woods Center. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are being handled by Thomas Funeral Home.
