GOLDIE P. BEACHY
Goldie P. Beachy, 87, of Grantsville died on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at Goodwill Nursing Home, Grantsville.
Born on April 1, 1919, in Grantsville she was a daughter of the late Ben and Nora (Durst) Butler. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elmer C. Beachy, on Jan. 23, 1976; a son, Olen, on May 31, 2003; two brothers, Pete and Byard; a sister, Eleanor “Sis”; and a grandson.
She was a retired store clerk for G.W. Diefenbach Grocery Store and Buckel’s Market after 27 years of service; lifetime member of Oak Grove Mennonite Church, Grantsville; and active in Oak Grove Assister’s Ladies Group and other organizations in church her entire life. She enjoyed volunteering at World Attic, Somerset, Pa., and at Goodwill Nursing Home.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Stahl, Berlin, Pa.; one son, Marvin, Grantsville; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
A service will be conducted in Oak Grove Mennonite Church on Sunday at 3 p.m., with Rev. Tim Fetterly officiating.
Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Oak Grove Mennonite Church or Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad.

FANNIE N. BEACHY
Fannie N. (Hershberger) Beachy, 96, Grantsville, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born Feb. 13, 1910, in Grantsville, she was a daughter of the late Noah and Savilla (Yoder) Hershberger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Noah S. Beachy, on Jan. 18, 1998; two children, Homer Alvin and Mary Lois; three brothers, Simon, Elmer, and Ervin Hershberger; and four sisters, Annie Hershberger, Sadie Schrock, Vernie Lichty, and Lydia Beachy.
She was a member of Mountain View Mennonite Church, where she was president of the sewing circle for a number of years. She was a homemaker. She also served as secretary for her husband’s feed business while on the farm in Meyersdale, Pa., for many years.
Surviving are five children, Sarah Marie Tice, Simon D. Beachy, and Martha L. Yoder, all of Grantsville, Miriam R. Yoder, Se-bree, Ky., and Marvin J. Beachy, Elizabethtown, Pa.; 21 grandchildren; 69 greatgrandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville.
A service was held on Monday, Oct. 9, at Mountain View Mennonite Church, with Pastor Menno Yoder and Pastor Jerry Yoder officiating.
Interment was in Mountain View Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Mountain View Brotherly Sharing Fund.

EUGENE D. BEACHY
Eugene Dale Beachy, 71, Grantsville, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at his residence.
Born Sept. 9, 1935, in Grantsville, he was a son of the late Vernon and Gertrude (Wilburn) Beachy.
He was a retired carpenter foreman and a maintenance man for Keyser's Ridge Truck Stop.
He is survived by his wife, Rhua Jean (Coddington) Beachy; one son, Michael Beachy, Laurel; four brothers, William Beachy, Baltimore, Marvin Beachy, Frederick, and Harold and Richard Beachy, both of Grantsville; and two sisters, Mary Geouge, Frederick, and Kathy McGregor, Glen Burnie.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was held on Wed-nesday, Oct. 11, with the Rev. David E. Fetter officiating.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Hospice of Garrett County.

ERNEST R. BEACHY
Ernest Ray Beachy, 90, Grantsville, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born Nov. 1, 1916, in Bittinger, he was the son of the late Simon and Katie (Bender) Beachy. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Violet (Miller) Beachy.
He was stone mason for Beal Masonry and a member the Springs Mennonite Church.
He is survived by a son, Leo D. Beachy, Grantsville; a daughter, Winifred L. Vought, Friedens, Pa.; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, today, Thursday, June 28, and Friday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where a service will be conducted on Saturday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Casey Rohrer officiating.
Interment will be held in the Grantsville Cemetery.

JOHN M. BEACHY
John Markle Beachy, 90, Grantsville, died as the result of a farm tractor accident on Monday, June 25, 2007, at his residence.
Born April 30, 1917, in Grantsville, he was a son of the late Joel A. and Etta Sarah (Livengood) Beachy. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Forrest, Walter, Irvin, Roy, and Vernon Beachy; and two sisters, Pearl Rosenberger and Ruby Bittinger.
He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Woodmen of the World, Lodge 41, and Garrett County Farm Bureau. He was a dairy and beef farmer.
He is survived by two sisters, June Beckett, Inverness, Fla., and Evelyn Hewitt, Grantsville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends were received on at Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was conducted on Monday, July 2, with the Rev. David E. Fetter officiating.
Interment was held in Grantsville Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be sent to Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department.

RONALD W. BECKMAN SR.
Ronald W. Beckman Sr., 64, Oakland, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Dec. 4, 1941, he was a son of the late Joseph E. and Flossie M. (Sweitzer) Beckman. He was also preceded in death by one brother, James Beckman.
He worked for Sisler Lumber Company, where he was employed for more than 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Beckman, Oakland; three daughters, Rhonda Harsh, Pasadena, Vicki Callis, Hephzibah, Ga., and Amanda Beckman, Oakland; two sons, Ronald Beckman Jr., Rawlings, and Randy Beckman, Conway, Ark.; one sister, Carolyn Rishell, Oakland; one brother, Steve Beckman, Oakland; and seven grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was held today, Thursday, Oct. 5, with the Rev. David Moon officiating.
Interment was in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.

RAYMOND L. ARNOLD
Raymond Luther Arnold, 84, Rawlings, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at the Lions Center, Cumberland.
Born Dec. 1, 1921, in Red House, he was a son of the late Floyd T. and Mary Katherine (Cooper) Arnold. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Doris Lee (Simpson) Arnold; two grandchildren; three brothers, Bob Arnold, Harold Arnold, and Roy Arnold; and one sister, Mary Katherine Brown.
He was a truck driver for the Local Teamsters 453. He was a former employee of the Celanese Corporation and Morris Motors, and retired from Walter N. Yoder & Sons Inc. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army 119th Infantry Division and was a prisoner of war captured at the Battle of the Bulge. After being released as a POW, he went back to his unit for the remainder of the war.
Surviving are three daughters, Doris House, Fort Ashby, W.Va., Dorothy Crabtree, Oldtown, and Bella Abe, Cresaptown; one sister, Anna Miller, Oakland; one brother, Floyd Arnold Jr., Oakland; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, where a service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 10, with the Rev. Dr. Merle D. Correll officiating.
Interment was in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone. Graveside military honors were accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
The family requests contributions be made to the Lions Center Family Council, 901 Seton Drive, Cumberland, MD 21502.

JESSE W. SOUTHERLY
Jesse W. Southerly "Jake," 75, Piedmont, W.Va., died on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at Potomac Valley Hospital.
Born Feb. 26, 1931, in Moorefield, W.Va., he was a son of the late Marion Southerly and Elizabeth (North) Southerly. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Donna J. (Haines) Southerly; one brother, James Southerly; and one sister, Connie Paul.
He was Methodist by faith. He served in the Air Force from 1948 to 1952, and was a life member of Victory Post 155 American Legion in Westernport. He retired from Westvaco Corp. in 1993, where he was a machine tender.
He is survived by his wife, Joan (Clark) Southerly; one son, William Southerly, Bittinger; and two grandsons.
Friends were received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, where a service was held on Wednesday, Oct. 11, with the Rev. Bart Thompson officiating.
Interment was in Potomac Memorial Gardens in Keyser, W.Va., with Farrady Post 24 American Legion of Frostburg providing military honors.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058; or to the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad, 59 Main St., Westernport, MD 21562.

PAUL V. SHORT
Paul V. "Buck" Short, 62, Terra Alta, W.Va., passed away Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at Heartland of Pres-ton County, Kingwood, W.Va.
Born Feb. 29, 1944, in Rowlesburg, W.Va., he was a son of Bessie Short Goff of Salt Lick Community and the late Vernon (Buster) Short.
Buck joined the Rowlesburg Fire Department when he was 16. He was an EMT and drove for the Terra Alta Volunteer Ambulance Squad and served as president. He was president of the Terra Alta Volunteer Fire Department. He often drove a truck to fire department festivities in West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, and enjoyed helping with the 4th of July Carnival. He belonged to the Preston County Ambulance Association and was a Terra Alta town councilman. He was a deacon in his church. He was employed as a jail officer and 911 dispatcher for the Preston County Sheriff's Department. He was the former owner of Home Monumental Works.
He loved bowling and was an avid stamp and sports card collector. He was president of the residents' council at Heartland, and enjoyed welcoming new residents and hosting two ice cream parties that he won for the residents.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Short, Terra Alta, W.Va.; one brother, John R. Short, Terra Alta; one sister, Pam Helms, Fairbanks, Alaska; three nephews, David Clutter and Joshua and Justin Helms; one niece, Cathy Clutter; a former spouse, Shirley Short; five stepsisters; one stepbrother; and several cousins.
Friends were received at the Terra Alta Volunteer Fire Department hall, Terra Alta, where a service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 10, with the Rev. Barry Adkins officiating.
Interment was in the Terra Alta Cemetery.
