MAUDE L. COPELAND
Maude L. Copeland, 94, Elk Garden, W.Va., died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Johns Hopkins Bay View Hospital, Baltimore.
Born June 11, 1906, in Wabash, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary A. (Davis) Green. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 77 years, Lawrence "Jake" Copeland, who died May 2, 1999.
Until her retirement, she served as a postmistress for 26 years, retiring in June 1972. She was a lifelong member of the Elk Garden Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer for 30 years. She was also in charge of raising money for the present building and the major renovation done in the 1980s.
Survivors include one son, Donald Copeland, Elk Garden; one daughter, Kathryn Evans, Baltimore; six grand-children; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Friends were received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller. A service was conducted at the Elk Garden United Methodist Church on Wednesday, April 4, with the Rev. Loren Metzner and the Rev. Brenda Shreve officiating. Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery, Elk Garden.

ANNA L. RIDDLE
Anna Lee Riddle, 77, Cumberland, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 29, 1924, in Cumberland, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Helen (Keolker) Lippold. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Homer Lippold.
She was a homemaker. She was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, William Eugene Riddle; two sons, David H. Riddle and William Eugene Riddle Jr., both of Cumberland; two sisters, Regina Raley, Finzel, and Rita Shobe, Cumberland; one brother, Richard Lippold, Cumberland; three grandchildren; and one greatgrandson.
Friends were received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown. A Christian Wake Service was conducted Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 4, with Father Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant. Interment was in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap.

VADA W. LEWIS
Vada Wildean Lewis, 71, Terra Alta, W.Va., died Monday, April 2, 2001, at her home.
Born June 8, 1929, in Elmira, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Virgil C. and Iza Marie (Kendall) Lowers. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Walter Lewis; six brothers, Kester, Darrell, Ray, Dennis N., Roy Virgil, Denzel, and Norman Paul Lowers; and three sisters, Edith and Ida Mae Lowers and Glendora Sharpless.
She was a member of the White Oak Church and attended Faith United Methodist Church, Cranesville. She retired from having a personal care home in her home for 19 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Norma J. Keim, Terra Alta; two sons, Charles R. Lewis and Dr. Roger A. Lewis, both of Terra Alta; two brothers, Martin C. Lowers, Aurora, W.Va., and Robert F. Lowers, Florida; two sisters, Ruby Wotring and Mae Cartwright, both of Aurora; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Lewis residence, Rt. 2, Box 134, Cranesville Road, from 1 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, and from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, April 6, the time of the service, at Faith United Methodist Church, Cranesville. The Rev. Bob England and the Rev. Harry Hebenthal will officiate during the service. Interment will be in the Terra Alta Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to Hospice Care Corp., P.O. Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520.
The Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta, is in charge of arrangements.

EDWARD FLORANCE
Edward Florance, 85, Frederick, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at the Glade Valley Nursing Home, Walkersville.
He was a son of the late William and Frances (Sunsford) Florance. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eva Mae Florance; one sister, Elsie Miller; and two brothers, Thurston Florance and Raymond Florance.
Survivors include one son, Joseph Florance, Baltimore; one granddaughter; one sister, Frances Meese, Oakland; and one brother, Wilson Florance, Bethesda.
At the deceased's request, his body has been donated to medical science.
A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, April 22, in Frederick.

SUSAN M. RILEY
Susan Marie Riley, 74, McHenry, died Friday, March 30, 2001, in Atlanta, Ga.
Born in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Helen Elco Vincent and the late Samuel Vincent. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert F. Riley Jr., and one son, Michael Riley.
She worked as a librarian at LaRoche College and was a member of the Women's Civic Club in Oakland.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Foster and Maureen Kimicata; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Rosann Buccieri and Virginia Herbert.
A memorial service is planned at Deep Creek Lake.
The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to the SloanKettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Ave., New York, NY 10021, or Hospice of Garrett County, P.O. Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.

ELLA S. JONES
A memorial service for Ella Summers Jones, 84, Oakland, who died Feb. 24, 2001, is set for Saturday, April 14, at noon at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Oakland. The Rev. Chip Lee will conduct the service, and a reception will follow in the church parish hall.

KATIE F. ZOOK
Katie F. Zook, 89, Oakland, died April 3, 2001, at her home.
Born Aug. 30, 1911, in Lancaster County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Katie (Fisher) Lapp. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Noah C. Zook, in 1993.
She was a member of the Gortner Amish Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Anna Brenneman, Morley, Mich., and Susie Beachy and Malinda Yoder, both of Oakland; 19 grand-children; 66 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the family residence. A service will be conducted at the Gortner Amish Church on Friday, April 6, at 10 a.m., with Bishop Norman Schrock officiating. Interment will be in the Slaubaugh Cemetery, Oakland.
The Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, is in charge of arrangements.

JOE ROSS JR.
Joe Ross Jr., 74, Palmetto, Fla., formerly of West Virginia, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at the Mariner Health Care, Palmetto.
He was born in Greenville, N.C.
He was a retired welder and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and was Presbyterian by faith.
He was a member of the Ali Ghan Temple Shrine, Cumberland; Lewy's Island Lodge #138, F&AM, Princeton, Maine; American Legion Post #71, Oakland; VFW Post 1041, Bradenton, Fla.; Loyal Order of Moose #2117, Palmetto; Fraternal Order of Eagles #2883, Cresaptown; and BPO Elks #2481, Oakland.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Linda Ross; seven daughters, Barbara Ann Standart, Buffalo, N.Y., Mary Jo Agro, Buffalo, Ida Murray, Buffalo, Jeri Lynn Pace, Richmond, Va., Wanda Jeanne Gaither, Thomas, W.Va., Jodi Lee Zane, Tennessee, and Lisa Kozlin, Buffalo; one stepdaughter, Sondra Sharff, Bradenton; three stepsons, Lonnie Bruce George, Parrish, Fla., Christian M. George, Charleston, W.Va., and Brian Keith George, Baltimore; three brothers, Harold Ross, James Ross, and Kenny Ross, all of Greenville; one sister, Hazel Evans, Greenville; 30 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Shannon Funeral Home, Westview Chapel, Bradenton, where a service was conducted Monday, July 23, with the Rev. Joseph W. Amory Jr. officiating. A Masonic service followed the funeral service. Interment was in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.

ROBERT N. DEAL
Robert Nathan Deal, 79, Markleysburg, Pa., died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born July 24, 1921, in Red House, he was a son of the late Elmer and Bertha (Durst) Deal. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Elsie (Herring) Deal; his children, Richard Deal, Markleysburg, Barbara Davis, Swanton, Robin Bittinger, McHenry, and Timothy Deal, Markleysburg; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Deal and Parley Deal, both of Grantsville; and two sisters, Mary Heiner, Akron, Ohio, and Edna Butler, Confluence, Pa.
Friends were received at the Donald R. Crawford Funeral Home, Farmington, Pa., where a service was conducted Sunday, July 22, with the Rev. Scott Teets officiating. Interment was in the Addison Cemetery.

CLARK H. SCHLOSSNAGLE
Clark Howard Schlossnagle, 87, Mtn. Lake Park, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born April 12, 1914, in Accident, he was a son of the late Howard and Maude (Spoerlein) Schlossnagle.
He was a member of Bear Creek Church of the Brethren, Accident, and served in various offices in the church. He was a retired farmer. He was a member and past director of the Garrett County Farm Bureau and participated in the Farming for Better Living program.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Virginia (Layman) Schlossnagle; three sons, Louis Schlossnagle, Bowdon, N.D., Roy Schlossnagle, Columbiana, Ohio, and Ellis Schlossnagle, Frederick; two daughters, Darlene Almon, Bonita Springs, Fla., and Linda Sanders, Oakland; five brothers, Raymond Schlosnagle, Friendsville, Marvin Schlosnagle, Rochester, Minn., Eugene Schlosnagle, Carlisle, Pa., and John and Glenn Schlosnagle, both of Accident; five sisters, Mabel Graves, Coudersport, Pa., Gladys Broadwater, Louisville, Ky., Eleanor Grove, Waynesboro, Pa., Marjorie Higley, Morris, Pa., and Dorothy Moon, Watkinsville, Ga.; 22 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Accident. A service was conducted Tuesday, July 24, at the Bear Creek Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Wegman and the Rev. William Shimer officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to the Southern Rescue Squad or the American Cancer Society.

CHARLES W. WRIGHT
Charles William "Lightning" Wright, 82, McHenry, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born March 26, 1919, in Altamont, he was a son of the late Charles Isaac and Carrie Mae (Lee) Wright. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Orland Wright and Lyle Wright, and four sisters, Iona Rodeheaver, Grace Bateman, Leona Savage, and Geraldine Rodeheaver.
He is survived by a sister, Catherine E. Savage, McHenry.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as an airplane mechanic for 24 years, retiring in 1971 as a technical sergeant. He served during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. After his retirement, he did carpentry work.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Accident, where a service was conducted Monday, July 23, with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating. Interment was in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland, where military graveside rites were observed.

RALPH O. NELSON
Ralph O. "Red" Nelson, 90, Eckhart, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born June 12, 1911, in Eckhart, he was a son of the late John and Rosa (Crowe) Nelson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Leona Mabel (Loar) Nelson in 1998; one son, Robert O. Nelson; and 14 brothers and sisters.
He retired from the Celanese Fibers Corporation after 45 years of service in the spinning department, and was a member of the Eckhart United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Lois Filsinger, Clarysville, Rosalie Warnick, Frostburg, and Nancy Pugh, Fulton; two sons, Ralph G. Nelson, Frostburg, and John Nelson, Oakland, one sister, Stella Krauss, Frostburg; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, where a service was conducted Tuesday, July 24, with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating. Interment was in the Eckhart Cemetery.

WARDER R. NETHKEN
Warder Robert Nethken, 88, Oakland, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born October 3, 1912, in Elk Garden, W.Va., he was the son of the late Reese Warder and Caroline (Pritts) Nethken. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Philomena E. "Peg" (Schuvke) Nethken.
He was president and CEO of Nethken Company, Coal Mining. He was a graduate of St. John's College, Annapolis, with a B.A. degree in English, and was a member of the KA Fraternity.
Surviving are two daughters, Ann Ehlers, LaVale, and Eleanor Alvarez, Westerville, Ohio; five grand-children; and one great-grandchild.
Interment and a service for the family will be held in the Druid Ridge Cemetery, Baltimore. Arrangements were handled by the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland.
The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to Stoneridge School of the Sacred Heart Mother Mouton Scholarship Fund, 9101 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20814.

LINDA S. SISLER
Linda Sue Sisler, 49, Middletown, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born February 14, 1952, in Oakland, she was a daughter of Mildred Elaine (Harvey) Beeman and the late Wilbert Gordon Beeman Sr.
She was employed as a cafeteria worker for 10 years by the Frederick County Board of Education, working in the Middletown School Complex, and was a home-maker. She attended the Frederick First Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday school.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 29 years, Ronald D. Sisler; one son, Eric D. Sisler, Frederick; two daughters, Rhonda I. Sisler and Renae E. Sisler, both of Middletown; six brothers, Wilbert Beeman, Akron, Ohio, Alvin Roger Beeman and Raymond Beeman, both of Oakland, Charles Beeman, Kent, Ohio, Jimmie Dale Beeman, Kitzmiller, and George Beeman, Swanton; five sisters, Helen Tasker, Betty Nelson, and Ellen Louise Bray, all of Kitzmiller, Jane Ashby, Ashland, Ohio, and Edith Tasker, Oakland; and one grandson.
Friends were received at the Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick. A service was conducted Friday, July 13, at the Frederick First Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Richard G. Diffenderfer officiating, assisted by Pastors Craig Taylor and Calvin LaVigne. Interment was in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Myersville.
The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to the Frederick First Church of the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, 7899 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.

RONALD E. DODGE
Ronald E. Dodge, 87, Oakland, died Monday, July 23, 2001, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born April 26, 1914, in Terra Alta, W.Va., he was a son of the late Dorsey C. and Bertie L. (Wilhelm) Dodge. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. (Frantz) Dodge, in 1992 and one brother, Harold Dodge.
He was a retired supervisor of maintenance for Youghiogheny Mountain Resort, Oakland, and was a member of the Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include four daughters, Carolyn Sanders and Kathy Armstrong, both of Terra Alta, and Loretta Shreve and Betty Brown, both of Oakland; two sons, Donnie Dodge, Cranesville, W.Va., and Richard Dodge, Kingwood, W.Va.; one sister, Evelyn Livengood, Terra Alta; one brother, Harlan Dodge, Rittman, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was conducted earlier today, July 26, with the Rev. Donald Savage and the Rev. Leslie Moats officiating. Interment was in the Terra Alta Cemetery.

INA G. BITTINGER
Ina Grace Bittinger, 88, Mtn. Lake Park, died Monday, July 23, 2001, at her home.
Born September 5, 1912, in Brandonville, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Wilbur F. and Virginia (Evans) Moyers. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lorraine (Bittinger) Dixon, and 10 brothers and sisters.
She was a member of the Faith Evangelical Free Church, Mtn. Lake Park. She was a former business partner in Del Builders Construction Company and the Montgomery Ward Catalog Sales.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Delbert R. Bittinger Sr.; four sons, Delbert R. Bittinger Jr., Wells Point, Texas, Gary F. Bittinger, Anderson, S.C., Douglas H. Bittinger, Oakland, and Lloyd E. Bittinger, Alexandria, Va.; one sister, Glenna Foreman, Albright, W.Va.,; one brother, Carlos Moyers, Bruceton Mills, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren; and 27 greatgrandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A service was conducted earlier today, Thursday, at the Faith Evangelical Free Church, with the Rev. Dave Martin officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Oakland.
