WAYNE W. UMBEL
Wayne Wendell Umbel, 52, Harrisonburg, Va., died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient since last Monday.
Born Oct. 15, 1951, in Garrett County, he was a son of Genevieve Habaugh Frazee, Friendsville, and the late Wendell Umbel. He was preceded in death by one stepson, Lyn A. Smith.
He was a seed salesman and worked for Garst, Chem-Gro and Doeblers Seed Company. He was an associate member of the Singers Glen Fire Co. He was a member of the Fairview Church of the Brethren.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Diana Guyer Umbel, whom he married April 13, 1990; his stepfather, Wayne Frazee; one son, Scott Umbel, Singers Glen, Va.; a daughter, Jennifer Ann Umbel, Hot Springs, Ark.; one stepson, Adam Smith, Staunton, Va.; one brother, Roy Umbel, Friendsville; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the Ashersglade Church of the Brethren.
A private burial was held earlier in Harrisonburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Singers Glen Fire Department, PO Box 373, Singers Glen, VA 22850.

DOROTHY CLARK
Dorothy Clark, 79, Oakland, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at her home.
Born June 9, 1925, in Garrett County, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary E. (Fazenbaker) Clark.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was held today, Thursday, Sept. 23, with Pastor Dennis Leatherman officiating.
Interment was in the Mountain View Cemetery, Barton.

NORMA J. SAVAGE
Norma J. "Jeannie" Savage, 57, Oakland, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born July 16, 1947, in Damascus, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Norman Harris. She was also preceded in death by her foster parents, Booty and Tough Barber.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Damascus, and worked for 16 years as a deli clerk for Browning's Foodland, Oakland.
She is survived by her husband, Samuel G. Savage; two daughters, Kim Riedy and Crystal Bohrer, both of Germantown; three stepdaughters, Debra Kroon, Fredericksburg, Va., Regina Calhoun, Friendsville, and Karen Biersak, Portsmouth, Va.; two stepsons, Kim Savage, Sterling, Va., and Steven Savage, Friendsville; one sister, Betty Jo Ablard, Damascus; one brother, Ronald Harris, Oregon; one grandson; eight step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was held Wednesday, Sept. 22, with the Rev. Ross Glotfelty officiating.
Interment was in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.

JUNIOR K. MILLER
Junior Keith Miller, 79, Oldtown, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at his residence.
Born Nov. 30, 1924, in Mouth of Seneca, W.Va., he was a son of the late Mason and Anna (Warner) Miller. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, William Miller and Alvin Heavner.
He was retired from Rockville Crushed Stone Quarry in Rockville.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Helen Alt Miller; six children, Betty L. Bunner, Cumberland, Roger Miller, Oldtown, Carroll Miller, Bunker Hill, W.Va., Rosemary Humberson, Friendsville, Karen Shoemaker, Kearneysville, W.Va., and Joseph Miller, Shepherdstown, W.Va.; two brothers, Rodney Judy and Earl Miller; three sisters, Virginia Miller, Reba June Heavner, and Ruthalene Heavner; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
At his request his body has been cremated. There will be no public viewing. The family will have a private service.
The Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cumberland, is in charge of the arrangements.

EILEEN O. MERRILL
Eileen Otto Merrill died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Q. Merrill; and one son, Gary T. Merrill.
She is survived by three sons, Kenneth D., Dennis O., and Keith R. Merrill; three sisters, Grace Shunk, Betty Jo Swauger, and Burnice Kenny; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Trinity United Church of Christ, Grantsville.

JOHN M. BOONE
John M. Boone, 23, Culpeper, Va., died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, as the result of a fire at his home.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Leo A. and Evelyn J. Tasker.
Born May 17, 1981, in Oakland, he was the son of Victoria V. (McCrum) (Boone) Tasker, Culpeper, Kenneth W. Tasker, Rio, W.Va., and Tracy F. Boone, Oakland.
He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the Bloomington Volunteer Fire Department, Company #36.
In addition to his mother and father, he is survived by one son, Michael D. Boone, Bloomington; one stepson, John W. Mayne, Bloomington; one sister, Michelle Mixson and husband Tony, Culpeper; two half brothers, Cody and Levi Boone, both of Oakland; his maternal grandparents, C. Bernard and Arveta M. (Michaels) McCrum, Sebring, Fla.; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 23.
A service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Norman Via officiating.
Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery.

WAYNE W. LILLER
Wayne Woodrow Liller, 85, Oakland, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at his home.
Born Feb. 8, 1919, in Gorman, he was a son of the late Aaron James Liller and Laura (Bachtel) Liller.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Russell, Page, and Claude Liller; and two sisters, Maude Kloepfel and Chloe Lee.
Mr. Liller was a retired carpenter and farmer, and was a member of Camp 11 Woodmen of the World.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Myrtle (Miller) Liller; one son, Wayne Liller and wife Connie, Oakland; and three grandchildren, Lacy L. Liller, Lakesa R. Liller, and Linsay D. Liller.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, Friday, Sept. 24, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A service will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Jake Paugh and the Rev. William McCallister officiating.
Interment will be in Eglon Cemetery.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to Hospice of Garrett County.

LORALLI R. CLARK
Loralli Romaine Clark, 66, Howesville, W.Va., died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Nov. 19, 1937, in Borgman, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John Bernadine and Evelyn Aseneath Thomas Clark. She was also preceded in death by one brother, John "Jack" Clark, in 1992.
She was an educator for 37 years with the Preston County Board of Education. Following her 1955 graduation from Kingwood High School and summer school at Fairmont State College, she began her teaching career. She received a bachelor of arts in education in 1965 and a master of arts in education from West Virginia University in 1969. She taught in Howesville Grade School, Hazelton Grade School, Mt. View, Pleasant Grade School, Head Start, and Kingwood Elementary.
She was involved with the WV Council of Teachers of English, National Council and West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics, International Reading Association, Preston County Education Association, National Education Association, KHS Alumni Association, FSC Alumni Association, WVU Alumni Association, PTA, Delta Kappa Gamma Alpha Epsilon, and Retired School Employees Association.
She was also involved in Friends of the Library, Citizens' Scholarship Foundation, past vice president of the Howesville Community Action Council, Hopemont Hospital Auxiliary, Preston Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, past vice president of the Business and Professional Women's Club, past first and second vice president and recording secretary of the Kingwood Women's Civic Club, WV Extension Homemakers Council, Preston County Cancer Society, and Preston County Historical Society. She also worked with Hospice of Preston County.
She was a catechism teacher at St. Sebastian's Catholic Church in Kingwood. She was also a member of the Altar Society, Parish Council, and the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. She was on the finance committee, renovation committee, spiritual life and worship committee, and pro-life committee.
Surviving are four brothers, Miles Clark, Kingwood, Larry Clark, Bethel Park, Pa., Lynwood Clark, Kingwood, and Lowell Clark, Borgman.
Friends were received at the Rotruck-Lobb Funeral Home, Kingwood Chapel, where a rosary/wake service was held.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Sebastian's Catholic Church today, Thursday, Sept. 30, with the Rev. Mark Ward and the Rev. John Lee as celebrants.
Interment followed at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Howesville.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy may be directed to the St. Joseph Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 519, 322 East Main St., Kingwood, WV 26537.

HANNAH R. FRIEND
Hannah Renee Friend, 3, Davis, W.Va., died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, in Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Jan. 26, 2001, in Oakland, she was a daughter of William Spedden and Jennifer Ellen Helmick Friend of Davis.
In addition to her parents, she is also survived by three sisters, Jennifer Marie, Bethany Kaylynn, and Rachel Nicole Friend, all at home; paternal grandparents, Dick and Anita Friend of Thomas, W.Va.; and maternal grandparents, Edward and Mary Ellen Helmick of Omaha, Neb.
Friends were received at the Hinkle Funeral Home, Davis.
A service was conducted at the Community Bible Church in Davis on Monday, Oct. 4, with the Rev. Glen Huguenin and the Rev. Ed Helmick officiating.
Interment was in Davis Cemetery.
The Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

REV. W. EUGENE MATTHEWS
Rev. W. Eugene Matthews, 77, Oakland, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at his home.
Born Oct. 7, 1926, in Sand Patch, Pa., he was a son of the late John and Susie (Sines) Matthews. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ivadine Cummings and Mildred Peterson; and one brother, James Matthews.
He was a pastor for 50 years in the Church of the Brethren, serving Mountain Dale Church of the Brethren, Hazelton, W.Va., Fairview Church of the Brethren, Oakland, and Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, Mount Storm, W.Va. He owned and operated the Economy Market, Oakland, and Matthews Coffee Shop, Oakland. He was also a farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Daisy E. (Reall) Matthews, Oakland; one brother, Rev. Donald Matthews, Oakland; one son, H. Thomas Hauser, Oakland; and two grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland.
A service was held at the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren, McHenry, on Sunday, Oct. 3, with the Rev. Donald Matthews and the Rev. Phillip Matthews officiating.
Interment was in the Oak Grove Cemetery, McHenry.
The family requests that contributions take the form of donations to Hospice of Garrett County, P.O. Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.

GUY W. SLAUBAUGH
Guy W. Slaubaugh, 87, Mt. Grove, W.Va., died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born June 16, 1917, in Mt. Grove, he was the son of the late Somers and Iva Mae Wotring Slaubaugh. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Beulah Hardesty, Lela Hause, and Blanche Slaubaugh; and one grandchild.
Surviving are his wife, Madeline Stemple Slaubaugh; two sons, Guy Edward Slaubaugh and Joey Wayne Slaubaugh, both of Horse Shoe Run, W.Va.; two daughters, Ella Grace Gaither, Leadmine, W.Va., and Nancy Jean Bolyard, Wrightstown, N.J.; two sisters, Grace Giordano, Eglon, W.Va.; and Pearl Valentine, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Hinkle Funeral Home, where a service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 5, with the Rev. Loren Metzner officiating.
Interment followed in the Texas Cemetery.

THELMA E. GREEN
Thelma Edith Green, 89, Grantsville, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at her residence.
Born Jan. 4, 1915, in Bittinger, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Ada (Schrock) Bowser. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold Green; and one brother, Wilbur Bowser.
She was a member of the Bethesda Church of the Brethren and was employed as an aide at the Goodwill Mennonite Home prior to her retirement.
Survivors include five sons, Arthur G. Green, Robert E. Green, and H. Wayne Green, all of Grantsville, Lester O. Green, McHenry, and Howard E. Green, Oakland; three daughters, Dora A. McKenzie, Grantsville, Frances D. Green, Gaithersburg, and Shirley A. Snyder, Oakland; three brothers, Russell Bowser and Alvin Bowser, both of Grantsville, and Olen Bowser, Louisville, Ohio; one sister, Olive Hetrick, Grantsville; 19 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 24 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was held on Wednesday, Oct. 6, with Pastor Carroll Junkins and Pastor Tony Wilburn officiating.
Interment was in Grantsville Cemetery, Grantsville.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Garrett County Hospice.

MARY J. KERSHNER
Mary Jane (Barnhart) Kershner, 60, The Villages, Fla., died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, of cancer.
Born Feb. 2, 1944, in Hagerstown, she was a daughter of the late Clara Etta Johnson and Luther C. Barnhart. She was also preceded in death by one baby daughter, Kimberly Jane Kershner; and one brother, Michael Johnson.
She attended area schools in Hagerstown. She received her GED from Fort Hill High School, Cumberland. She was a homemaker, and worked several years, the last position being at Beverly Convalescent Center, Cumberland.
She was a member of Shiloh Church of Bellview; the Cumberland Chapter 56, Order of the Eastern Star; Ladies of Ali Ghan Shrine Club, Cumberland; the Maryland, Delaware, and D.C. Club; and the West Virginia Club in The Villages.
Surviving are her husband, Ronald E. Kershner, whom she married on May 8, 1965; three daughters, Vicki M. Oster, Cumberland, Valerie Lynn Kersh-ner, Louisiana, and Veronica Lee McKenzie, Frederick; one brother, Raymond E. Barnhart; six sisters, Marie Huntsberry, Patsy Burhman, Donna Leasure, and Linda Barnhart, all of Hagerstown, and Sharon Secrest and Sheila Johnson, both of Kitzmiller; and four grandchildren.
At her request, she will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, persons may make donations to the Crippled Children's League, P.O. Box 267, Cumberland, MD 21502; or to the Shriners Hospital Transportation Fund, c/o Ali Ghan Shrine Club, Cumberland, MD 21502.
