HAROLD J. GRIFFITH
FRIENDSVILLE - Harold James Griffith, 83, of 3991 Friendsville-Addison Road, Friendsville, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born July 14, 1920, at Confluence, Pa., he was the son of the late Ernest Grover and Mary Wilma (Wass) Griffith. He was preceded in death by one brother, William Ernest Griffith.
Mr. Griffith was retired after 31 years service as a transmission mechanic for Columbia Gas Transmissions Corporation. He was a Staff Sgt. for the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He also was a member of Grantsville Post 214, American Legion and Selbysport United Methodist Church.
Mr. Griffith is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mabel Ruth (Frazee) Griffith, whom he married on Dec. 25, 1948; one son, James Edwin Griffith and wife Patty Lou (Sisler), Morgantown, W.Va.; one daughter, Sharon Kaye Buckel and husband Gary, Bittinger; one brother, Homer Griffith, Wickliffe, Ohio; four grandchildren, Kandice Renae Buckel, Leslie Jo Buckel, Trina Nicole Griffith and Jamie Lynn Griffith.
Mr. Griffith was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 943 Second Ave., Friendsville, on Monday from 3:30 to 5:30 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home, Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Daymond Schmuck and the Rev. Edwin Moore officiating.
Interment will be in the Addison Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by Grantsville Post 214, American Legion.
Contributions may be directed to Mill Run Mercy Chapel or Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad.

OLIVE M. FOOTE
LONACONING - Olive Mae “Toots” Foote, 87, of Lonaconing, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, at Sacred Heart Hospital. She had resided at Frostburg Village Assisted Living.
Born April 10, 1916, in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late John and Sarah (Metz) Fazenbaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, John James Foote; grandson, Billy Blye; great-granddaughter, Kristen Loar; and two sisters, Mildred Whitefield and Adaline Shockey.
Mrs. Foote was a member of the Bethel Holiness Church, Lonaconing, where she attended faithfully. In previous years, she sang in the choir, sang solos and led congregational singing. She loved to sing and always had a song in her heart to share with others.
Surviving are four daughters, Glenna Blye, Piedmont, W.Va., Joan Wilson and husband Leonard, Carol King and husband David and Debbie Whittington, all of Lonaconing; one brother, John Edison Fazenbaker and wife Ella Rae, Lonaconing; one sister, Viola “Babe” Bradley, Gaithersburg; three grandsons, James Blye and wife Cindi, Cary, N.C., Leonard John Wilson and wife Tonya, Lonaconing and Jamie Whittington, Lonaconing; five granddaughters, Linda Palmer and husband David, Rockville, Michele Layman and husband Charles, Castle Rock, Colo., Sarah Foote and husband Mike, Boonsboro, Elizabeth Loar and husband Ric, Williamsport and Sarah Whittington, Lonaconing; 14 great-grandchildren, Justin Wilson, Danny, Sean and April Blye, David, Andrew and Ashley Palmer, David, John and Amanda Layman, Rachel and Brandon Foote, and Austin and Shaun Loar; and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., in Lonaconing, on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Bethel Holiness Church, Route 36 North of Lonaconing, Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George Loar officiating. The body will be taken to the church an hour before service for viewing. Family will receive friends there.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Leonard John Wilson, Jim Blye, Jamie Whittington, Ric Loar, Mike Foote, Bob Fazenbaker, Gary Fazenbaker and David Palmer.

WALTER D. DEAL
FROSTBURG - Walter David Deal, 74, of 1070 West Finzel Road, Frostburg, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Dec. 7, 1929, in Somerset County, Pa., he was the son of the late William and Mary (Baer) Deal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Keith Deal; and 12 brothers and sisters.
Mr. Deal is survived by three sons, Barry Deal of Oklahoma, David Deal of Salisbury, Pa. and Kevin Deal of Westernport; four daughters, Brenda Cook, Robin McKenzie, Jackie McKenzie and Melisa Arnold, all of Salisbury; two brothers, Donald Deal of Meyersdale, Pa. and Paul Deal of Salisbury; one sister, Mary Belle Brown of Frostburg; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Deal was a member of the Greenville Lutheran Church. He was retired and had previously worked at the Celanese, was a farmer and worked as a janitor in the Frederick, Md. area.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Highway, Salisbury, Pa. on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Greenville Lutheran Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with Pastor David E. Fetter officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Greenville Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Salisbury VFW.

GLENN R. KLIPSTEIN
FROSTBURG - Glenna Rae Klipstein, 55, of Frostburg Heights Apts., Frostburg, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born June 13, 1948, at Frostburg, a daughter of the late Glenn “Clem” Ritchie and Dolores “Dory” (Monahan) Ritchie.
She was a former employee of Kings Dept. Store, Retail Management; and Dollar General Store. She was a graduate of Valley High School, Class of 1966, and attended Allegany Community College. She was an avid member of Welsh Memorial Baptist Church, Frostburg.
Surviving are her ex-husband, James Robert Klipstein Sr., Midland; one son, James Robert Klipstein Jr., Lonaconing; one sister, Dolores Kae Morgan and husband William, National; two brothers, James “Clem” Ritchie, Lonaconing and Robert L. Ritchie and wife Joyce, Lonaconing; two nephews, Robert Ritchie and fiancee, Jenn and Jeffrey Ritchie and wife Julie and daughter, Rachael; two nieces, Jeannie Fuente and husband Brian, and son Brian and Dalene Ritchie.
Glenna was blessed with many many friends and was truly thankful for each and everyone.
Friends will be received at Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., 8 E. Main St., Lonaconing, Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home, Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Lee E. Griggs officiating.
Interment will be at Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg.

JANE L. RANDALL
CUMBERLAND - Jane Louella Randall, 66, of Cumberland died Monday, April 26, 2004, at the home of her sister.
Born Aug. 17, 1937, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late John William and Minnie M. (Ellsworth) Randall. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Phillips, Helen Rice, and Ruth Bittner.
Jane was a housekeeper in the local area, a 1956 graduate of Fort Hill High School, and attended Grace United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two brothers, Raymond Randall, Frostburg, and John Kenneth Randall and wife JoAnn, Oxen Hill; two sisters, Marian Elaine Shadwell, and Janet L. Wade and husband Robert, all of Cumberland; brother-in-law, Dale Bittner, Mechanicsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John W. Zsittnik
Interment will be in Zion Memorial Park.

PEARL (DUDLEY) OLIVETO
MIDLOTHIAN - Pearl (Dudley) Oliveto, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Midlothian, passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Regional Hospital, Baynnett Point, Fla.
Born at Midlothian, daughter of the late John and Pearl Dudley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Louis Oliveto; six brothers; and three sisters.
Mrs. Oliveto was a member of the North Bay Community Church, Safety Harbor, Fla.
Surviving are son, Robert and wife Janet, Vermont; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, George Dudley, Vale Summit; three sisters, Isabella Damewood, Frostburg, Gwen Mergenthaler, Florida, and Alvenia Koppel, Midlothian; a special niece, Jackie Gisriel, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be interred in Clearwater.

PAULINE L. MARTIN
KEYSER, W.Va. - Pauline L. Martin, 91, a resident of Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, formerly of the Potomac Heights Apartments and “B” Street in Keyser, died Sunday, April 25, 2004, at the nursing home.
Born on Sept. 3, 1912, at Burlington, she was a daughter of the late William E. and Margaret (Canan) Welch. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph O. Martin; son, David G. Martin II; sisters, Carmen Blackburn, Gyla Henderson and Margaret Parkey; brothers, Wilford and Woodrow Welch and a special friend, David Minty.
Mrs. Martin was a 1931 graduate of Keyser High School. She taught in a one room school for two years and later, was associated with her husband in his businesses until his death. She also constructed draperies, slip-covers and other home furnishings for over 20 years. A member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Keyser, she served as a trustee for the church for 33 years and served in various offices in the United Methodist Women and the Semper Fidelis Sunday School class. Mrs. Martin was also a member of the Olive Temple 59, Pythian Sisters, Keyser and the New Creek C.E.O.S. (Homemakers).
Surviving are daughters, Janet Martin Kraus and husband Paul of Centennial, Colo., Doris Martin Tennyson of Silver Spring, Md., Lee Martin Wierman and husband Paul of Beaver, Pa., and Sharon Martin of Alexandria, Va. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Tammy (Martin) Snedeker of Virginia Beach, Va., David L. Martin of Richmond, Va., Kathryn (Wierman) Hayes of Bethesda, Md., Beth Wierman Lambert of Sewickley, Pa., Amy (Wierman) Buchwald of Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada, Tracy (Tennyson) Shawn, Alexandria, Sokhoeun (Tennyson) Bonds of Bloomington, Ind., Ron Kraus of Centennial, Glenn Kraus of Littleton, Colo., and Kevin Kraus of Angleton, Texas; 17 great-grandchildren; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Tuesday, April 27, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday, April 28, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Beth Wierman Lambert and the Rev. Andrew Agnew Sr. officiating.
Interment will be in the Davis Cemetery, Antioch.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Calvary United Methodist Women, PO Box 297, Keyser, WV 26726 for projects benefiting children.

MARGARET B. KELLER
FLINTSTONE - Margaret Blanche “Skippy or Pippy” Keller, 75, of Cumberland, died suddenly on Sunday, April 25, 2004, at her home.
Born Feb. 21, 1929, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Harry Gladstone Keller, Sr., and Margaret Blanche (James) Keller. Mrs. Keller was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn E. Jolly, 1980.
Margaret graduated from Fort Hill High School. She continued her studies at Saint Joseph’s Infirmary School of Nursing in Atlanta, Ga. Margaret Holds a bachelor’s degree from the Central Bible College in Springfield, Mo., and a master’s degree in Nursing from the University of Maryland.
Margaret was president of the Maryland Association of Nurses and Chairman of the Appalachian Regional Commission Committee on health manpower. In recognition of her contributions, she was granted Focus on Excellence and Focus on Teaching awards by the Maryland State Board for Community Colleges. Margaret spent 42 years in nursing and 31 years in nursing education. She was director of the Cumberland Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and was instrumental in developing Recovery Room Care. She is responsible for developing the Nursing Program at the Allegany College of Maryland and was director of nursing education until her retirement in 1992 as associate professor and was granted professor emeritus status.
Margaret committed her life to the Lord and has served Him faithfully for 62 years. She was a member of the Central Assembly of God Church and taught junior church, workers training class, vacation Bible school, adult Sunday school class, and played the piano at various nursing homes. Margaret touched many lives. She was on the prayer chain, wrote articles for the Virtuous Woman, and served on the board for Lighthouse Christian Academy.
She loved her family, sacrificing much for them, but never felt it a sacrifice. The most important thing she has done for her family all through the years to be faithful in serving the Lord and praying for them.
Margaret was truly a virtuous woman and her price is above rubies. We love her and will miss her very much.
Mrs. Keller is survived by her two brothers, Harry G. Keller Jr. and his wife Rita, Cumberland, and George R. Keller and his wife Grace, Fergus Falls, Minn.; her sister, Mary Ellen Emerick and her husband Bill, Cumberland; a special feline friend, Abigail; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., (formerly Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A.), 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday, April 29, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Central Assembly of God Church, on Friday, April 30, 2004, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Doug Seamen officiating and Pastor Robert Hymes assisting.
Pallbearers will be all the nephews, Kenneth B. Jolly, James Mark Jolly, Robert F. Jolly, Roger K. Jolly, William C. Emerick III, Harry G. Keller III, David O. Jolly, Brian L. Emerick, Kevin H. Emerick, D. Andrew Emerick, Christopher C. Emerick, and Matthew C. Emerick.
Interment will be held at Hillcrest Burial Park.

RICHARD F. HESS
LITTLESTOWN, Pa. - Richard F. Hess, 80, of Littlestown, died Friday, April 23, 2004, at Hanover Hospital.
Born Aug. 26, 1923, in Lancaster County, he was the husband of D. Jean Hess for 57 years. He was the son of the late Oliver and Verna (Forry) Hess Sr.
Richard served in the Army during World War II in the European theater. He attended a Methodist church, and worked as a salesman for many years for Leinhardt Brothers Furniture in Hanover and York. Richard was a graduate of East Lampeter High School.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Winona K. Hess of Littlestown; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer A. and Richard A. Bonig of Cumberland; two granddaughters, Pamela R. Bonig of Frostburg, Md., and Jessica L. Bonig of Richmond, Va.; and one brother, James R. Hess of Lancaster.
He was predeceased by a brother, Oliver G. Hess Jr.
Funeral services are 11 a.m., Tuesday at Little's Funeral Home in Littlestown. The Rev. Timothy J. Kielley from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hanover will officiate.
The viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.

GEORGE GORDON
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - George Gordon, 73, of Martinsburg, died Friday, April 23, 2004, at City Hospital.
Born May 30, 1930, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late James and Frances “Barkins” Gordon.
He was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps with 23 years of service serving in Korea and Vietnam. He was employed with the Balboa U.S. Navy Hospital in San Diego, Calif.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Lepley Gordon; five sons, Elmer, George Jr., Levi, Daniel, and Emory Gordon; three daughters, Rhea Gordon, Margaretta Mitzel, and Robin Gordon; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Gladys Barb, Bertha Perrault, and Myrtle Rutt.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Gordon; and a sister, Clara Silvious.
Services and interment will be private.

GLEN D. FRAZEE
FRIENDSVILLE - Glen D. Frazee, 95, of Friendsville, passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2004, in Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
He was born on March 18, 1909, in Friendsville, son of the late Isaac and Kate Fearer Frazee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Umbel Frazee, in 1966; two great-grandchildren, Alicia Hutzel and Christi Hutzel; and a sister, Mary Hoff.
Mr. Frazee was a member of the Asher Glade Church of the Brethren. He drove school buses and served on the election board, both for 38 years. He also worked at Yough Motors for several years.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Hinebaugh Frazee; children, Dorothy Glotfelty of Accident, Dale Frazee and wife Ruthy of Winterhaven, Fla., Glenna Ringer and husband Ron of Bruceton Mills, W.Va., Phyllis McCarty and husband Randy of Friendsville, Carla McCully and husband Ken of St. Augustine, Fla., and Gary Hinebaugh and wife Jackie of Leesburg, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Rodney S. Turner Funeral Home, 254 Main St., Markleysburg, Pa., on Tuesday, April 27, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Asher Glade Church of the Brethren, Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ed Moore and the Rev. Nevin Umbel officiating. Friends will also be received one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in Asher Glade Cemetery, Friendsville.

THERESE J. CARPENTER
GRANTSVILLE - Therese “Terry” J. (Langford) Carpenter, 52, Grantsville, died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., after an extended illness.
Born June 19, 1951, in New Orleans, La., she was the third of nine children of Val (Arculeer) and Hal Langford, Grantsville.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 31 years, Walt Carpenter, Grantsville; one son, Jason Michael Carpenter, Baltimore; eight siblings, Tom, Jim, John, Paul, and Phil Langford, and Ann Marie Foster, Jeannette Stancill, and Mary Margaret Standish; and 20 nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 30, at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church (Hickory), 533 East Jarrettsville Pike, Forest Hill, with the Rev. Jim Barker as the celebrant.
Interment will follow in the St. Ignatius Cemetary.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be forwarded to the Terry Carpenter Fund, for impoverished cancer patients in the Dominican Republic, c/o David Foster, The Republican newspaper, PO Box 326, Oakland, MD 21550.

ROY C. MASON
ELLERSLIE - Roy Clifton Mason, 83, of Temple Street, Ellerslie, died on Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at WMHS Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. Born on Feb. 12, 1922, in Hyndman, he was the son of the late George Webster and Anna Ruth (Lowery) Mason. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert P. Mason. Surviving are Geraldine F. (Keith) Mason, his wife of 59 years; children, Bonnie Sue Willison and husband Paul, Winchester, Va., Georgiann Mason and R. Steven Mason, Ellerslie and Edward P. Mason and wife Kathy (Smith) Cumberland; sisters, V. Catherine Logsdon, Hyndman and Mary Jane Printy, Stephens City; sister-in-law, Mildred (Scritchfield) Mason, Hyndman; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Mason was a graduate of Hyndman High School. He had been employed at the Celanese Fibers Plant and the Bolt & Forge Shop in Cumberland. He was a retired railroad electrician’s helper.
He was U.S. Army Air Force veteran of the World War II Pacific Theatre.
He belonged to the Ellerslie United Methodist Church, where he was very active as a former Financial Secretary, attending to the church building and grounds and otherwise supporting the life of the church.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence St., Hyndman, Wednesday from 2 to 4 an 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Virginia Weaver officiating.
Interment will be in Palo Alto Cemetery, Hyndman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be directed to the Ellerslie United Methodist Church Stained Glass Window Fund.
