KING O. MILLER
LaVale - King O. Miller, 72, of LaVale, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at Lions Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born May 1, 1930, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Rex and Viola Miller.
Mr. Miller was retired as an electrician from the CSX Railroad after 45 years of service. He was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Washington Street.
Surviving are his wife, V. Kay Miller; two daughters, Bridget Penny and Jody Quiros; two sons, Tim Miller and Sean Miller; two stepdaughters, Lynn Matter and Mary Lou Dorsey; one stepson, Ken Snyder; one sister, June Matthews; three grandchildren, Kayla Quiros; Joshua Quiros; and Tiffany Mitchell; and one great granddaughter.
At Mr. Miller’s request his body will be cremated.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, is in charge of arrangements.

CHESTER E. PETENBRINK
WELLERSBURG, Pa. - Chester E. Petenbrink, 75, of Palo Alto Road Wellersburg, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at WMHS Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born July 6, 1927, in Sand Patch, Larimer Township, Somerset County, Pa., he was the last surviving child of the late Elmer Arthur and Martha Jane (Smith) Petenbrink. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Dale, Byron, and Donald Petenbrink; and by one sister, Mary Alice Weimer.
Mr. Petenbrink was a retired machinist for the Chessie System. He was a World War II veteran of the Merchant Marines and was awarded the Atlantic and the Mediterranean-Middle East War Zone Bars by the War Shipping Administration for service rendered as an able seaman in seven steamship crossings between 1944 and 1947.
An active and enthusiastic hunter and fisherman, he was a founding member of the Barrellsville Outdoor Club. He was also a member of the Kennells Mills Sportsmen’s Club, and the Cumberland Outdoor Club.
Surviving are Helen M. (Morgan) Petenbrink, his wife of nearly 55 years, whom he married Oct. 31, 1947; a son, David Petenbrink, Wellersburg; a daughter, Doris Ringler and husband Richard, Keyser, W.Va.; an adored granddaughter, Lydia Marie Ringler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
According to his wishes, Mr. Petenbrink’s body will be cremated.
At the convenience of the family, friends are invited to call at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be sent to the Wellersburg Fire Company or Trinity Lutheran Church, 76 Davis St., Keyser, WV.

JOHN W. BUTLER
GRANTSVILLE - John Woodrow Butler, 85, of 18956 Bittinger Road, Grantsville, died Saturday Oct. 12, 2002, at his residence.
Born Feb. 1, 1917, in Grantsville, he was a son of the late John Amos and Savilla (Bittinger) Butler. He was also preceded in death by one infant son, Teddy Wayne; one brother, Mark G. Butler; and seven sisters, Olive Vought, Beulah Tressler, Lottie Mathis, Viola Hutzel, Ida Reckner, Melda Butler, and Pearl Show.
Mr. Butler was a member of Bear Creek Church of the Brethren, Accident, was a retired farmer and U.S.. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Woodman of the World Camp 41, Grantsville.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sara Ruth (Tissue) Butler; two sons, John Michael Butler, Dillsburg, Pa., and Daniel Timothy Butler and wife Edie, Grantsville; one daughter, Donna Virginia Kohlhase and husband Lee, Mesa, Ariz.; one brother, Alton Butler, Meyersdale, Pa.; two sisters, Evelyn Bartholovish, Carmichael, Pa., and Elma Durst, Meyersdale; two grandson, Daniel Timothy Butler, Charlottesville, Va., and David Michael Butler, Raleigh, N.C.; one granddaughter, Lori Anne Bloomer and husband Cale, Mesa, Ariz.; and two great granddaughters, Cassandra and Kendra Bloomer.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Philip Moser and the Rev. Earl Yoder officiating.
Interment will be in Grantsville Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Hospice of Garrett County.

TIMOTHY S. NUTTER
Wiley Ford, W.Va. - Timothy Scott Nutter, 19, Wiley Ford, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002.
Born May 13, 1983, in Cumberland, he was the son of Debbie Flanagan, Wiley Ford, with whom he resided and Dave and Sue Nutter, Keyser. Timmy was preceded in death by one brother, Dave Nutter, Jr.
In addition to his parents, surviving are his sister Les Nutter; brother, John Nutter, both at home, stepbrother, Ryan Dolan and stepsister, Mandy Dolan; a very special family friend John Hose, Short Gap; dear friends Philip Kesner, William Ault and Eric Stewart, paternal grandmother, Jean E. Pownall, Ridgeley; special maternal grandparents, George and Dottie Corwell, Wiley Ford; stepgrandparents, Fred and Ramona Seib, Cumberland. Also surviving are aunts and uncles Helen and David Bingham, Ridgeley; Mark and Gwen Nutter, Phoenix, Ariz.
Timmy enjoyed life to the fullest, loved his family and was a devoted friend to many. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He will be greatly missed by all.

CHRISTA A. BROWNING
KEYSER, W.Va. - Christa A. Browning, 77, of 1345 Ludwick St., Keyser, died Dec. 8, 2002, at Heartland Nursing Home, Keyser.
Born Feb. 6, 1925, in Deer Park, Md., she was the daughter of the late Scott Benjamin and Minnie (Hardesty) Tasker. She was also preceded in death by her husband Robert Browning; and a son-in-law Sam Wilson. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Browning was a mail carrier in the Kitzmiller area for 7 years, an Inspector at Bausch & Lomb of Oakland and a homemaker. She was a member of Laureldale United Methodist Church and Mineral County Committee of Aging. She was a loving mother, beloved grandmother and caring and compassionate to all.
Surviving are three children, Michael V. Pratt and wife Donna of Gibsonburg, Ohio, Carolyn “Connie” Ann Wilson of Oakland, and Georgenna T. Beckman and husband Harold E. of Keyser; seven grandchildren, Gina and Jeff Staggers, Scott and Laura Beckman, Sam and Crystal Wilson, Debbie and Marty Wilt, Galen and Ali Wilson, Lisa and Kurt Timmons and Michael and Robin Pratt; and nine great-grandchildren.
At Mrs. Browning’s request, her body will be cremated.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at the Markwood Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gwen Wolford officiating.
Inurnment will follow in Deer Park Cemetery, Deer Park.
Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, is in charge of arrangements.

ROBERT FENDER
FLINTSTONE - Robert “Buck” Fender, 41, Flintstone, died peacefully in his sleep Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at his residence.
Born Sept. 1, 1961, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Edna L. English Boller and Harold D. Fender and his stepmother, Clara Fender, Burnsville, N.C.
Buck was a wonderful father and husband. He was an avid motorcycle rider and an inactive member of the Pagan Motorcycle Club, Frederick.
In addition to his father and stepmother, surviving are his wife, Robin L. Fender; two sons, Jacob M. Fender, and Dakota L. Fender, both at home; a stepdaughter, Tiffani A. Pumphrey and husband Sean, Cumberland; a stepson, Philip E. Ward, at home; one granddaughter, Morgan A. Pumphrey; three sisters, Diane Kaas and husband Dale, Thurmont, Sherry Fender, Burnsville, N.C., and Kaitlin English, Burnsville; two brothers, Jeffrey Fender, Brunswick, and Pete Fender and wife Melissa, North Carolina; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, Wednesday from 4 to 5 p.m.
A memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home Wednesday at 5 p.m. with the Rev. Larry Burkeholder officiating.
At Buck’s request, he will be cremated.

CARL R. WEATHERHOLT
CUMBERLAND - Carl Raymond Weatherholt, 88, of Cumberland, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at New Hope Assisted Living, Mexico Farms.
Born Nov. 2, 1914, in Kitzmiller, he was the son of the late Samuel T. and Mary Ellen (Murray) Weatherholt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Lee (Alamond) Weatherholt in 1998; two brothers, Floyd Allan in 1995, and William Murray Weatherholt in 1993; and one son, David in 1997.
Raymond was a 1932 graduate of Allegany High School and went to work at the Cumberland Evening and Sunday Times as an apprentice printer, becoming a journeyman printer after five years. He was a printing instructor at Allegany High School and later at Vo-tech. During Raymond’s 37 year career at the Times, he held offices in International Local 244, and the Tri-State Typographical Conference. He retired in 1977.
Raymond constructed a display of instruments that make the printing industry of years ago a memory to cherish, and presented it to the History House. This display can be seen in the exhibit room of the Allegany County House on Cumberland’s Washington Street.
In the 1930’s, he coached the First Presbyterian Church Basketball team in the Central YMCA Sunday School Basketball League. During World War II, he worked at the Kelly Plant manufacturing ammunition. He was a member of the Cumberland Elks Lodge 63 and the National AARP.
Surviving are three sisters, Annie Alice Conant, Falls Church, Va., Betty Jane Richmeyer, Cumberland, and Sue Ellen Rowe, Ridgeley, W.Va.; four brothers, Sherman S. Weatherholt, Cumberland, Franklin Desales Weatherholt, Las Vegas, Nev., John Charles Weatherholt, Dundalk, and Mark Clark Weatherholt, Cumberland; several nieces and nephews, his sisters-in-law, Louise G. Weatherholt, Mary Elizabeth Weatherholt, Virginia Weatherholt; and a good friend, Ernest A. Riley, Jr., LaVale.
At Mr. Weatherholt’s request, his body will be cremated. There will be no visitation.
A graveside service will be conducted at a later date.
The family respectfully requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of memorial contributions to any crippled children’s organization.

WILLIAM H. PEYTON
Westernport - William Howard Peyton, 91, formerly of 308 Maryland Ave., Westernport, and most recently of Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at the nursing home.
Born May 28, 1911, in Westernport, he was the son of the late Joseph H. and Ida (Martin) Peyton. His wife, Doris (Boal) Mitchell Peyton; a stepson, Robert F. Mitchell III; a brother, Norris Peyton; and a sister, Louise Dailey, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Peyton was retired from Westvaco Corp., where he spent 42 years. He was a United States Army veteran of 42 months, having served in the Pacific Theatre, and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant during his tour of duty. He was a life member of St. James Episcopal Church, Westernport, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for 10 years. He also served for many years on the Vestry and was an active member of the choir.
Mr. Peyton was a member of the Bruce High School Alumni Association, and was a former member of the executive committee. He was a Past Master of Hiram Lodge 103 AF & AM, Westernport, where he was also the treasurer for 17 years. He was 32-degree member of the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Ali Ghan Shrine Club of Cumberland. He was also a member of the El-Fidel Club, the Piedmont Rotary Club, and was a life member of Kelly-Mansfield Post 52 American Legion, Piedmont, W.Va.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Katherine Mitchell of Westernport; a grandson, Robert F. Mitchell IV of Westernport; a granddaughter, Ann P. Caren and husband Marc of Kennesaw, Ga.; and a great-granddaughter; Madison Caren of Kennesaw.
Mr. Peyton’s body was cremated.
A memorial service will be conducted at St. James Episcopal Church, Westernport, on Friday, Dec. 13th at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Manning Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service, from 10 until 11 a.m.
Inurnment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
In lieu of flowers and food, memorials may be directed to Tri-Towns Rescue Squad, or St. James Episcopal Church, Westernport, or Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing.
Boal Funeral Home, Westernport is in charge of arrangements.

MILDRED C. WILHELM
FROSTBURG - Mildred Cecelia Wilhelm, 88, of Powells Lane, Frostburg, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 25, 1914, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Grant and Rachael (McKenzie) Deibler. Mrs. Wilhelm was also preceded in death by her husband, James Wilhelm; and one son-in-law, Robert Felker.
Mrs. Wilhelm was a homemaker, and she was a member of Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Frostburg.
Surviving are one son, Darrell Wilhelm and wife Linda, Rohrersville; six daughters, Audrey Holler and husband Charles, Oakmont, Pa., Jean Felker, Joan Harrison and husband Donald, Eileen Edwards and husband Robert, Ruth Wilhelm and Gail Day and husband Charles, all of Frostburg; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Father William Moody as celebrant.

JOYCE A. MONNETT
MAUGANSVILLE - Joyce A. Monnett, 59, a resident of Maugansville, died on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in Germantown.
Born July 31, 1943, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas and Myrna McClelland Mace. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gary T. Mace, and John E. Mace.
She was employed for 15 years by the ARC of Washington County, and was actively involved as a volunteer for fund-raising events. She was actively involved in Special Olympics and fund-raising for the ARC of Washington County.
She was a member of the Faith Christian Fellowship in Hagerstown.
She is survived by one daughter, Nicole Draheim and husband, Lenny of Germantown; two sons, David Monnett of Hagerstown, and Mark Monnett and wife Lori of Hagerstown; two sisters, Myrna Darden of Levittown, Pa., and Patricia McDonough of Virginia Beach, Va.; three brothers, Robert Mace of Cumberland, William Mace of Baltimore, and Stephen Mace of LaVale; one granddaughter, Lindsey Draheim; and one grandson, Paul Draheim both of Germantown; and 30 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. Pastor John Miller will officiate.
Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

MARY K. GRADY
PIEDMONT, W.Va. - Mary Kathryn Grady, 74, of 51 Jones St., Piedmont, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003 at the home of her daughter, Kathryn in Fort Ashby.
Born Oct. 3, 1928 in Beryl, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Hazel (Bobo) Braithwaite. Her husband, Clyde A. Grady Sr.; two sisters, Wilda Rohrbaugh, and Louise Dawson; a brother, Junior Braithwaite; a brother, Harry Braithwaite; and a special aunt and uncle, Roy and Icie Pearl Cosner, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Grady was a homemaker. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, and was a member of the Piedmont Senior Citizens.
Surviving is a son, Clyde A. “Buck” Grady Jr. and wife Lorraine of Piedmont; two daughters, Kathryn Elliott and husband Roger of Fort Ashby, Carol Bosley and husband Dan of Westernport; one sister, Clara Fazenbaker of Westernport; one brother, Howard of Burlington; four sisters, Dorothy, Frances, Jean, and Bessie all of Keyser, nine grandchildren; Mark Elliott, Wayne Elliott, Roger Lee Elliott, Amanda Bosley, Wilda Grady, Tammy Grady, Bobby Grady, Heather Grady, and Stephanie Riggleman; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Elizabeth Allen-Villinger officiating.
Interment will be in Bloomington Cemetery, Bloomington.

MARTHA I. ABER
CUMBERLAND - Martha Ida Aber, 93, of the Chateau of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at WMHS Memorial Hospital Campus.
Born on June 21, 1909, in Swissvale, Pa., she is the daughter of the late Albert George Jeremias and Ida Selma (Jeremias) Jeremias.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Aber retired as Director of Personnel Health for the McGee Women’s Hospital and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Paul W. Aber Sr., Cumberland; a son, Paul W. Aber Jr. and wife, Barbara, LaVale; a daughter: Nancy Goshow and husband, Eric, New York City, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Scott Aber and wife, Mary, Washington, Pa., Tracy Aber, Dallas Texas, and Marcy Aber, Charleston, W.Va.; three great-grandchildren, Stephen Aber, Ashley Aber, and Austin Aber, Washington, Pa.; and a special cousin, Helen Baldus, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, from noon until 2 p.m.
A memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. O. Morton Harris Jr. officiating.

ERNEST E. LUSK
FLINTSTONE - Ernest E. Lusk, 76, of Fifteen Mile Creek Road, Flintstone, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at WMHS Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
He was born Aug. 5, 1926, in Bearton, W.Va., a son of the late Fred K. and Ava L. (Bailey) Lusk. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Lusk; five sisters, Flossia Crouch, Pearl Parson, Martha Byrd, Evelyn Richardson, and Nellie Lusk; and four brothers, Glenn, Sanford, Dewey, and Bobby.
On Jan. 13, 1951, in Tazwell, Va., he married Joan E. “Jackie” Wheeler. In addition to Jackie, his wife of 52 years, he is survived by a daughter, Denise and her husband C.J. Hack, Omak, Wash., two sons, Michael Lusk and his wife Patricia, Havelock, N.C., and Steven Lusk and his wife Robin, Manassas, Va.; a brother, William Lusk and his wife Roberta, Bud, W.Va.; three sisters, Helen and husband Noble Mitchum, Lashmeat, W.Va., Lorraine and husband Carl Robertson, Bud, and Louise and husband Walter Carson, Harrisburg, N.C.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Lusk attended Fairview Christian Church. Previously, he was employed for over 18 years at the Pocahontas Coal Company of West Virginia, and then worked for Rockingham Construction until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Post 945, Wormleysburg.
Friends may call at the Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett, on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. and at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Fairview Christian Church, on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Milton Morris officiating.
