Bryden Hyde
Bryden Bordley Hyde, 87, a retired Baltimore architect who was a founder of Historic Annapolis, died Dec. 28, 2001 at his Gibson Island home after a long illness.
Born in Baltimore, the son of G. Ray and Henrietta Amelia Clemens Hyde, he was descended from the Bordley family who originally owned the 18th century Bordley-Randall House on State Circle, and from Stephen Bordley, an 18th century attorney general of Maryland.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree in architecture, he served during World War II as an infantry captain in the 8th Armored Division, receiving a Bronze Star medal for service that included the Battle of the Bulge.
He was made a partner in 1947 in the office of James R. Edmunds Jr. and became president in 1973 of the renamed Edmunds and Hyde Inc.
Mr. Hyde was involved in the moving of the Carroll-Davis house from Conduit Street to the St. John's College campus where it now houses college offices.
As an architect he was recognized for his many contributions to historic preservation. He was made a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
He designed the second floor mezzanine of the American Wing of the Baltimore Museum of Art, including the historical period rooms. He did the restoration for the Orangery at the Hampton National Historic Site in Towson, was a team member restoring Davidge Hall, the oldest medical building in the United States, and did the original designs for the Gibson Island Country School and the Riviera Beach branch library as well as other notable buildings.
He moved his family home and birthplace, Evesham (circa 1853), from Baltimore to Gibson Island in 1961, which involved dismantling and labeling more than 20,000 bricks.
He retired in 1986 but worked on residential architeceture until the mid-1990s.
Mr. Hyde had a lifelong appreciation of art, antiques and genealogy. He painted more than 50 portraits and wrote an antiques reference book published by the Bermuda National Trust.
Among his numerous civic and community activities, he was a founder and president of Historic Annapolis. He served on the board of governors of the Maryland Club for 17 years and was vice president of trustee of the Maryland Historical Society. He was a member of the Bachelors Cotillion, the Gibson Island Club and the Ancient South River Club.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Diana Caroline Smith; two sons, Stephen Bordley Hyde and Jonathan Hynson Hyde of Gibson Island; two daughters, Elizabeth Bordley Gamble of Gibson Island and Anne Hyde Pedro of Bermuda; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at St. Christopher by the Sea Church on Gibson Island.

Pamela Lynch
Pamela Knowlson Lynch, 74, of Chester, died Jan. 1, 2002 of complications of pneumonia at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born Dec. 10, 1927, and raised in Grosse Pointe, Mich., Mrs. Lynch attended the University of Leggett School in Grosse Pointe and the Parsons School of Design in New York City.
She came to the Round Bay community in Severna Park from Sewickley, Pa., in 1972. In 1990 she and her husband, retired Air Force Col. Richard T. Lynch, moved to Vero Beach, Fla., and in 1997 to Queens Landing community in Chester.
She was a member of the Junior League of Sewickley and of Annapolis. Her interests included boating with her husband for the past 20 years, cruising the Inner Coastal Waterway between Annapolis and Florida on board the Waveaway.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Knowlson O'Connor Mulkey of Ketchikan, Alaska; one daughter, Melissa Mulkey Norman of Churchton; three stepdaughters, Laura Mansfield Lynch of Kimberton, Pa., Carol Lynn Stob of Round Bay and M. Louise Lynch of Arnold; one stepson, Richard T. Lynch III of Glen Burnie; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Burial will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Anne Arundel Medical Center Foundation for the Intensive Care Unit, 2001 Medical Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401.

Barbara MacDonald
Barbara Lois MacDonald, 56, a resident of Annapolis for 37 years, died of cancer Jan. 12, 2002 at her home after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. MacDonald was born April 3, 1945, in Arlington, Va. She was employed in the medical field as a surgical assistant in oral surgery for many years. Recently she was working for Dr. Ivan Nosacek, Family Foot Care.
She was known for her sense of humor, her laughter and love for her family and rescued plants and animals, her family said. Mrs. MacDonald also was an accomplished craftsman who marketed her "Barbara's Babushkas" designer scarves.
Surviving are her husband, Gregory S. MacDonald, whom she married on Nov. 4, 1988; one son, Timothy K. McClaeb, and one daughter, Teresa M. McClaeb, both of Annapolis; three brothers, Edward W. Fonfara of Williamsburg, Va., James A. Fonfara of Owings and Joseph L. Fonfara of Deale; one sister, Mary A. Anderson of Dunkirk; and one grandson.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Anne Arundel County, 1815 Bay Ridge Ave., Annapolis, MD 21403.

James Moreland
James Dennis "Mr. James" Moreland Sr., 58, a resident of Lothian since 1971 and previously of Suitland and Bladensburg, died of cancer Jan. 1, 2002 at his home.
Mr. Moreland, the son of the late Carrie and Richard R. Moreland Jr., was born in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 30, 1943. He graduated from Bladensburg High School in 1961 and attended the Steamfitters Apprentice School in Washington for five years.
He worked for the Poole and Kent Corp.in Baltimore as a foreman for more than 20 years.
He was a member of Steamfitters Local 602 for 40 years, Union Church in North Beach and Deale Elks Lodge 2528. He coached the United Youth Group from 1972 to 1996.
Mr. Moreland enjoyed playing, coaching and watching sports -- baseball, football, basketball and boating.
He was formerly married to Frances R. Moreland of Silver Spring.
Surviving are his wife, Jackie J. Moreland; three sons, James D. Moreland Jr. of King George, Va., Michael R. Moreland of Silver Spring and Scott J. Simpkins of Lothian; one daughter, Kathy Moreland of Winter Haven, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Michelle Denise Pettibon of Crofton; three brothers, Richard F. "Dickie" Moreland III of Waldorf and Douglas S. and Roger E. Moreland of Edgewater; his sister, Joyce K. Boswell of Richmond, Va.; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 905 Galesville Road in Galesville, where the funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Mount Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lothian.

Elizabeth Ray
Elizabeth "Betty" Ray, 70, a resident of Crofton for 34 years, died of cancer Jan. 1, 2002 at home after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Ray was born Jan. 15, 1931, in Washington, D.C., where she graduated from Eastern High School. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Crofton.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Ray; three sons, Buddy and Robert Ray of Crofton and David Ray of Arnold; three daughters, Terri Ray and Patty Miranda of Crofton and Donna Davis of Gambrills; three sisters, Gloria Jansen of Locust Grove, Va., and Marge Newton and Pat Upright of Annandale, Va.; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation is from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 tonight at Evans Funeral Home, Route 450 and Race Track Road, Bowie. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Seton Drive, Crofton. Burial will be in Lakemont Cemetery in Davidsonville.

Graham Wilder
Graham Larkin "Zeke" Wilder, 87, a resident of Davidsonville and previously of Cheverly, died of natural causes Jan. 1, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Mr. Wilder born in Clayton, N.C., on Nov. 24, 1914. He served in the Navy during World War II. He retired from the J.W. Marriott Corp. in 1970 where he was a district manager.
When his younger years, he was an avid golfer, loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed all sports and tracking the stock market.
In 1945 he married Helen M. Wilder, who died in 1997.
Surviving are his daughter, Betty L. Piersanti of Davidsonville; his brother, Lonnie Wilder of Augusta, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. HIs son, Robert L. Corcoran, died January 2001.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater, where the funeral service will be held at noon Saturday. Burial will be in Lakemont Cemetery in Davidsonville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Calvary Community Church of Riva, 3272 Riva Road, Riva, MD 21140.

Louise Yeabower
Louise J. Yeabower, 92, of Kilmarnock, Va., and formerly of Edgewater, died of natural causes Dec. 29, 2001 at Mayfair House assisted living facility in Kilmarnock.
Mrs. Yeabower was born Oct. 6, 1909, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of the late John A. and Ruth M. Buddeke. She married John B. Yeabower in 1930.
She worked for a number of years in the banking industry.
Mrs. Yeabower was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church for many years before moving to Virginia last year.
She was the mother of the late Michael F. Yeabower and the sister of the late Georgiana Twomey, June Rohr, Patricia Snesko and John Chrest.
In addition to her husband of Farnham, Va., she is survived by four sons, John A. Yeabower of Tulsa, Okla., Donald A. and George T. Yeabower of Destin, Fla., and David J. Yeabower of Cordova, Alaska; one daughter, L. Joan Clickener of Tappahannock, Va.; one brother, Richard Buddeke of McLean, Va.; one sister, Sister Rita Buddeke of Trinity College in Washington, D.C.; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grand-children.
Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. A Mass of Christian burial will be said at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home.

David Brown
David Timothy Brown, 71, a resident of Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville and formerly of Elvaton, died Jan. 1, 2002 at the University of Maryland Shock-Trauma Unit following a short illness.
Mr. Brown was a custom homebuilder, historical restorationist and general contractor. He founded and was president of Brown Engineering and Construction in Glen Burnie.
His projects included the Harbor House Restaurant, McGarvey's Tavern, Market House, the Naval Historical Wax Museum at the Naval Academy, the Huffard Animal Hospital in Pasadena and the South Arundel Veterinary Hospital in Edgewater. He also worked on the period rooms at the American Wing of the Baltimore Museum of Art.
His restoration projects included the William Paca House and Gardens, the Shiplap House and the John Callahan House in Annapolis, the London Town Public House in Edgewater, the Ellicott City Country Store and the Mount Clare Mansion in Baltimore.
Born and reared in Elvaton, Mr. Brown was the son of the late William R. Brown and Theresa Hippler Brown-Guy and the stepson of Alonzo Guy.
He received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1939 from the University of Maryland. During World War II he was a lieutenant junior grade in the Navy.
He lived in Millersville and Severna Park before moving to Catonsville. His interests included gardening, reading, painting and writing poetry.
Surviving are his wife, Anne Marie Dixon Brown, whom he married in 1948; 10 children, Therese M. Trainum of Leesburg, Fla., Rebecca Thomason of Ypsilanti, Mich., Petra Edwards and Julie C. and Miriam Brown of Virginia Beach, Va., David F. Brown of Millersville, Brian G. Brown of Brooklyn, Zoe E. Brown of Ann Arbor, Mich., Mark T. Brown of Severna Park and Mary Jo Brown of Baltimore; 23 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Barbara Donnelly of Westminster. He was the brother of the late William R. Brown Jr. and Edward, Gilbert and Michael Brown.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel, Charlestown, 719 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charlestown Benevolent Care Fund, Attn: Gift Planning Office, 711 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, MD 21128.

Cynthia Rountree
Cynthia Rose Weglarz "Thia" Rountree, 32, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Crownsville, died of a brain aneurysm Dec. 27, 2001 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Mrs. Rountree was born in Chicago and was a former resident of Palos Park, Ill. She graduated from Mother McAuley High School in Chicago in 1987 and received a bachelor's degree in urban planning from the University of Illinois in 1991. She earned a law degree from the University of Oregon in 1995.
She was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1996 and served as legislative counsel to Vermont Rep. Bernard Sanders in Washington. Later she was legislative counsel to the Environmental Matters Committee of the Maryland House of Delegates.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. Michael Rountree; her parents, Cynthia and Jack Weglarz of Palos Park; her brothers, Jon Weglarz of Palos Heights, Ill., and Mark Weglarz of Chicago; and her grandmother, Josephine Cerven of Roscommon, Mich.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Jan. 12 at St. Alexander's Catholic Church, 126th Street and 71st Avenue, Palos Heights. Arrangements are by Memphis Funeral Home and Cemeteries, Poplar Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, 6 Herndon Ave., Annapolis, MD 21403, or the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

James Dyer
James Dyer, 87, of Glen Burnie died Jan. 3, 2002 at the Severna Park Center, Genesis Eldercare Network.
Mr. Dyer was born in Maryland. He served as a medical technician in the Army and received a Purple Heart.
His interests included dancing.
The widower of Flora Dyer and the father of the late James Dyer, he is survived by three sons, Gerald Dyer of Annapolis, Ronald Dyer of Florida and Thomas Dyer of Pennsylvania; three daughters, Barbara Dyer of Glen Burnie, Sandra Headley of Florida and Margaret Ludwick of Ocala, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 today at Singleton Funeral Home, 1 Second Ave. S.W., Glen Burnie, where services will be held at 9 a.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Glen Haven Cemetery in Glen Burnie.Pamela Lynch
