Alfred Greenwell
Alfred Hamilton Greenwell Sr., 74, of North Beach, died Nov. 21, 2002 at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick due to complications of diabetes.
Born April 17, 1928, in Prince Frederick, Mr. Greenwell was raised by his parents, Delaware Hall and Alfred Hall Greenwell, in North Beach. He attended the former Beach School.
From 1951 to 1953 he served in the Army and was stationed in Germany.
A master plumber, he worked for the federal government for 17 years and later worked for the town of North Beach. He retired in 1986 due to a job-related injury.
He belonged to St. Anthony's Catholic Church in North Beach, enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a fan of the Baltimore Orioles.
Surviving are two sons, Alfred H. Greenwell Jr. of Lothian and Brian K. Greenwell of North Beach; one daughter, Roxanne Marie Hall of Chesapeake Beach; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Gibson of Drum Point and Mary Dale Cusick of North Beach; and two brothers, Bernard R. Greenwell of Brandywine and Paul L. Greenwell of North Beach.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Rausch Funeral Home, 8325 Mount Harmony Lane, Owings. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in North Beach. Burial will be in Southern Memorial Gardens in Dunkirk.

Richard Meyer
Richard Townsend Meyer, 77, an 18-year resident of Crofton, died Nov. 21, 2002 at home after a three-year illness.
Mr. Meyer was born June 28, 1925, in Aspinwall, Pa. He was a signalman third class in the Navy from 1943 to 1946.
He received a bachelor of arts degree in 1949 from Allegheny College and attended the University of Buffalo Law School from 1949 to 1951.
A renowned negotiator of employment contracts, he was the founder of Executive Transitions International Inc. and had been president and CEO since its inception in 1985. He also was a former president of Macmillan Publishing Co.
Mr. Meyer was the founder and past president of the International Association of Career Consulting Firms.
He was a member of St. James' Parish in Lothian, His interests included golf, jazz and sailing.
Surviving are his wife, Faye Marie Meyer, whom he married in 1986; a son, Richard T. Meyer II of Germantown; two daughters, Cynthia C. Smith of Stockbridge, Ga., and Tracy T. Meyer of Annapolis; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. James' Church, 5757 Solomons Island Road, Lothian, where burial will follow.

Ernest Dorsey
Services for Ernest Radcliff Dorsey, 78, of Valley Lee in St. Mary's County, were held yesterday at the Brinsfield Funeral Home Chapel in Leonardtown.
Mr. Dorsey died Nov. 16, 2001 at his home. The cause of death was not available.
Born May 31, 1923, in Anne Arundel County, he was the son of the late Jusuha Chesterfield and Helen Merena Bias Dorsey.
A farmer, he moved to St. Mary's County 60 years ago from Deale.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian Virginia Gross Dorsey, whom he married July 19, 1946; six sons, Ernest Dorsey of Clinton, Leroy and Frank Dorsey of Valley Lee, Joseph Dorsey of Oakville in St. Mary's County, Vincent Dorsey of Virginia Beach, Va., and Earl Dorsey of Waldorf; three daughters, Lilly Mae Dorsey-Cobbs and Lowenda Dorsey-Hudson, both of Richmond, Va., and Sharon Dorsey-Hughes of Waldorf; two brothers, Albert Dorsey of Annapolis and Robert Dorsey of the Eastern Shore; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Nelson Dorsey.
Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Great Mills. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's Inc., P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650.

John Mongold Jr.
John F. Mongold Jr., 58, a resident of Odenton for 32 years, died of a stroke Nov. 20, 2001 at the Washington, D.C., Hospital Center.
Born Oct. 6, 1943, in Petersburg, W.Va., Mr. Mongold was the son of Pauline V. Mongold of Odenton and the late John F. Mongold Sr.
He retired in 1995 from Roadway Express, where he was a dockworker.
He belonged to the Church of the Brethren in Baltimore, the Teamsters Union, the Terrapin Club of the University of Maryland and the Mountaineer Club of West Virginia University. He enjoyed sports.
His wife, Jeanette Mongold, died in 1999.
In addition to his mother, survivors include three sons, Tommy Kimble of Lusby, Mark Kimble of Odenton and Steve A. Mongold Sr. of Petersburg; one brother, Gregory A. Mongold of Shady Side; three sisters, Brenda K, Phillips of Purcellville, Va., Patricia A. Nelson of Glen Burnie and Kathy S. Williams of Crownsville; and six grandchildren.
Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills, where services will be at 6 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Basagic Funeral Home, 1 Myrtle Ave., Petersburg, with a graveside service at 2 p.m. Sunday at Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg,

Margaret Vickers
Margaret M. "Nanny" Vickers, 86, of Annapolis, died of natural causes Nov. 19, 2001 at Future Care--Chesapeake in Arnold.
Mrs. Vickers was born Aug. 10, 1915, in Lynchburg, Va. She had lived in Annapolis for the past 55 years.
She worked for 23 years as a bottle inspector at the former Pepsi Cola plant on West Street before her retirement.
She loved to read her Bible every night and enjoyed her flowers and cooking.
Her husband, Charles Vickers, died in 1955.
Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn Harold of Crownsville, Catherine Harold of Ocean Pines and Mittie L. Keller of Annapolis; one sister, Rosanna Terry of Severn; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother and five sisters.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Judith Dashper
Judith "Judi" C. Dashper, 54, of Annapolis and the wife of Stephen Fox, died suddenly of a ruptured aneurysm Nov. 20, 2002 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Ms. Dashper was born on March 7, 1948, in Wilmington, Del. She graduated from the University of Delaware in Newark in secondary education. She worked 27 years in the insurance industry and lived in Annapolis since 1971.
Recently she had taken classes in fine arts at Anne Arundel Community College and was working on a master of fine arts degree at the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore. She enjoyed photography, going to museums and galleries with her art history classes and organizing monthly Friday night dinners for her neighbors at a local restaurant.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her parents, Hannah and Herbert Dashper of New Castle, Del., and her sister, Leslie A. Dashper of Newark.
A memorial service for Ms. Dashper, a multiple organ donor, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Gloria Dei! Lutheran Church, 461 College Parkway, Arnold. A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle, Del. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Anne Arundel County Unit, 1041 Route 3 North, Gambrills, MD 21054, for breast cancer research.

Diana Davis
Diana Lynn Davis, 44, a longtime resident of Mayo, died Nov. 20, 2002 at a home in Bowie.
A homemaker, Mrs. Davis was born July 11, 1958, in Somerset, N.J., and attended high school in Okinawa, Japan.
She was a member of Mayo United Methodist Church and a former member of the Mayo Athletic Association and the Auxiliary of American Legion Post 226.
She enjoyed reading, cooking and being with her family.
Surviving are her husband, Stanley L. Davis, whom she married in 1976; three children, Brad K. Davis of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Brian M. and Jessica L. Davis of Mayo; her mother, Thelma Shaffer; three brothers, Roger and Howard Shaffer and Sean Pierce; and one sister, Terry Shaffer, all of Florida.
She was the daughter of the late Roger Shaffer.
Services are private. Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home.

Valerie Jones
Valerie "Val" Michelle Currie Jones, 48, of Annapolis, died Nov. 15, 2002 at the Crofton Convalescent Center. The cause of death was not available.
Born June 12, 1954, in Baltimore, Mrs. Jones was the daughter of Vera Simms Sellers and Phil Currie of Annapolis. She attended Anne Arundel County public schools and worked as an inspector for the Annapolis Housing Authority.
Her interests included cooking.
She was formerly married to Carl Jones.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by three sons, Andrew Howard, Larry Deshonn Cooper and Otto Terille Gordy; four brothers, Joseph Edward Jr., Otto Thorpe Sr., Kirk Sellers and Cleveland Sellers Jr.; and two sisters, Jennifer Sellers and Renee Carter, all of Annapolis.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Reese and Sons Mortuary, 821 West St.

Clifton Ward
Clifton R. "Curly" Ward, 83, of Davidsonville and previously of Edgewater, died of pneumonia Nov. 20, 2002 at Milllennium Health and Rehabilitation Center at South River in Edgewater.
Mr. Ward was born May 2, 1919, in Edgewater where he lived most of his life. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was an auto and marine mechanic at Southern Maryland Aluminum Products, from which he retired after 20 years of service.
He enjoyed playing the lottery and was devoted to his family.
Surviving are a son, Edward Ward of Edgewater; a daughter, Deborah S. Tipton of Davidsonville; a brother, George Ward of Davidsonville; a sister, Dorothy Suit of Edgewater; and two grandchildren.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave., where services will be held at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville.

Lillian Dunn
Lillian Dunn, 62, of Annapolis, died of cancer Nov. 19, 2002 at her home after a four-year illness.
Mrs. Dunn was born July 17, 1940, in New York City. She worked for several years as an office manager in a local medical office.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, loved gardening and enjoyed spending time with her family.
On July 18, 1959, she was married to Jim Dunn.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael Dunn of Arnold and John Dunn of Carlisle, Pa.; her mother, Magdaline Konicek of Woodside, N.Y.; one sister, Rosemarie Curley of Hicksville, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.
She was the daughter of the late John Konicek.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road. Burial will follow in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 8424 Veterans Highway, Millersville, MD 21108.

Richard Estep
Richard Sherman Estep, 75, of Dunkirk, died Nov. 17, 2002 at his home. The cause of death was not available.
Mr. Estep was born Jan. 13, 1927, in the Nutwell community in south county and graduated from the former Wiley H. Bates High School in Annapolis. During World War II he served in the Army.
He was a heavy equipment operator for more than 40 years for Aggregate Industries.
His interests included cooking, fishing, gardening, hunting and watching television.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Gertrude Estep; one son, Ronald Gregory Estep of Fort Washington; two daughters, Cynthia Diane Turner of Shady Side and Patti Odaris Harvey of Dunkirk; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Sherman Andre Estep and the brother of the late Warren Garner and William Eugene Estep.
A Christian wake will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Friendship United Methodist Church, 22 W. Friendship Road, Friendship, where viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday followed by the service at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Carter's United Methodist Church Cemetery, 6715 Old Solomons Island Road, Friendship. Arrangements are by Sewell Funeral Home in Prince Frederick.

Clay Farris
Retired Army Chief Warrant Officer Clay William Farris, 61, of Arnold, died of cancer Nov. 16, 2002 at his home after a brief illness.
Born Dec. 21, 1940, in Eugene, Ore., Chief Farris attended the University of Hawaii and graduated from the University of Oregon. He resided at various duty stations throughout the United States while in the military.
A career Army officer, he enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 17 and then transferred to the Army where he served as a counterintelligence officer. He retired from the military in 1991, and went to work for the U.S. Department of Energy.
His interests were hunting and fishing.
His wife, Soon Ja Farris, died in 1983.
Surviving are three daughters, Lili Kim Farris of Chester, Holly McKenzie Noll of Detroit, Mich., and Jennifer Rain Young of Tampa, Fla.; his mother, Val Farris of Portland, Ore.; and three sisters, Pam Pariani of Portland, Christine Kipp of Issaquah, Wash., and Janet Arbuckle of Orland, Calif.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Road, Chester. A funeral Mass will be said at 8:45 a.m. Dec. 18 at the Fort Myer Post Chapel in Fort Myer, Va. Burial will follow in Arlington National Cemetery.

J. Gross-Armstrong
Services were held today at Mount Olive Church of God in Mount Olive, N.C., for Joanne Gross-Armstrong, 49, of Mount Olive and formerly of Bowie, who died Nov. 16, 2002 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, N.C. The cause of death was not available.
Mrs. Gross-Armstrong was born March 16, 1953, in Shady Side and graduated in 1971 from Southern High School in Harwood.
A police officer, she retired Oct. 1, 2000, after 25 years of service with the Prince George's County Police Department.
She attended Greater Faith Church in Maryland until relocating to North Carolina.,
Surviving are her husband, Jerry Armstrong, whom she married Aug. 12, 2000; two stepsons, Jerry Armstrong Jr. and DeWarren Armstrong of Mount Olive; two daughters, Risa Nadine Gross of Mount Olive and Artia LaRae White of Norfolk, Va.; her father, Radner W. Duppen of Mount Olive; three brothers, James Lindsey and Joseph Duppen of Annapolis and Hank Brent of Severn; one sister, Darlene Bullock of Columbia; and eight grandchildren.
Burial was in Carver Memorial Park in Mount Olive, where arrangements were handled by Garris Funeral Home.
