Lena Norfolk
Lena M. Norfolk, 80, formerly of Owings and Upper Marlboro, died of congestive heart failure Nov. 13, 2002 at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick. She had lived at the Calvert County Nursing Center in Prince Frederick for the past two years.
Mrs. Norfolk was born Oct. 4, 1922, in southern Anne Arundel County and was raised by her late parents, Edward and Lillian Mazzullo, in Hills Bridge near Wayson's Corner. She graduated from Southern High School in Lothian in 1940.
She married Edward A. Norfolk later that year and they lived in the Upper Marlboro area in Prince George's County all of their married life. Mr. Norfolk died in 1973, and she remained in Upper Marlboro until moving in with her daughter in Owings about six years ago.
She was a school bus driver in Prince George's County for 22 years, retiring in the early 1980s.
Mrs. Norfolk was an avid Scrabble player and enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, crocheting, playing card games, cooking and caring for others.
She was a member of St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church in Upper Marlboro.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary Beth Allen of Owings; two sons, John E. Norfolk of Tracys Landing and David A. Norfolk of Owings; one sister, Rosemary Johnson of Charlottesville, Va.; one brother, John Mazzullo of Gambrills; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.
She was the sister of the late Edward Mazzullo.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Rausch Funeral Home, 8325 Mount Harmony Lane, Owings. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, North Beach. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church, 14908 Main St., Upper Marlboro, MD 20772.

Blair Overton III
Funeral arrangements are private for Blair P. Overton III, 64, a 35-year resident of Crofton, who was killed in an automobile accident Nov. 13, 2002 on Route 3 and Crawford Boulevard in Crofton.
Mr. Overton had retired as an administrator and teacher in the Prince George's County Public Schools. He began teaching elementary physical education in 1962 and taught physical education and coached football, track, golf and wrestling at Crossland High School. In 1968 he was appointed a pupil accounting official at the Prince George's County Board of Education, from which he retired in 1996.
In retirement, he raised puppies and assisted in administrative positions for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, a New York-based non-profit organization that raises and trains guide dogs for the visually impaired.
According to articles in The Capital in 1998, 2000 and this year, he and his wife of 38 years, Winnifred "Winkie" Overton, took in three puppies, taught them basic manners and obedience and returned them to Guiding Eyes to be guide dogs.
To help with the separation, they also attended the graduation ceremonies from the extensive training in New York and met the individuals who would benefit from the guide dogs, often staying in contact with them.
Born in Baltimore, Mr. Overton graduated in 1955 from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute where he lettered in football and baseball. His love of sports led him to Shepherd College in West Virginia, where he played football and earned his bachelor's degree. He received his master's degree in educational administration from The George Washington University.
When he moved to Crofton in 1968, he became active in the Crofton Athletic Council and the Boy Scouts, serving as leader of Troop 758. He coached his sons on many of their sports teams.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Blair P. "Pat" Overton IV of Columbia and Scot Caldwell Overton of Ellicott City; and two grandsons.

Evelyn Reese
Evelyn "Ebbie" King Reese, 96, formerly of Grasonville, died Nov. 12, 2002 at the Methodist Manor House in Seaford, Del.
Born Nov. 19, 1905, in Winchester, now Grasonville, Mrs. Reese was the daughter of the late William E. and Drucilla Collier King. She was a 1923 graduate of Stevensville High School and then was employed in Baltimore as an office worker. After returning to Grasonville, she worked for the Perfect Garment Co. and as a clerk at Earl Coursey's General Store.
For many years she owned and operated the King and Thompson General Store, which also housed her barbershop. She helped clients and friends with income taxes and was well known for her homemade candy and Easter eggs.
Mrs. Reese was active in her church, Immanuel United Methodist Church, in Grasonville, and was a willing worker and teacher, her family said.
In 1985 she moved to the Methodist Manor House where she continued her charitable work, including her barbering and hair cutting there and making candy for her new friends.
On Nov. 18, 1960, she was married to William Henry Reese who is now deceased.
She is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Lynette Bryan of Grasonville, four nieces and four nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers and five sisters.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Route 18 and Station Lane, Grasonville, where services will be at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Chesterfield Cemetery in Centreville. Arrangements are by Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home in Chester.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 518, Grasonville, MD 21638.

James Sheckells Jr.
James A. Sheckells Jr., 79, a longtime resident of Tracys Landing, died Aug. 28, 2002 at his home after a lengthy illness and heart failure.
Mr. Sheckells was born Nov. 30, 1923, in Huntingtown. He was the son of the late James A. Sheckells Sr. and Blanche Dowell Sheckells from Huntingtown, for which Sheckells Road off Route 4 was named.
He was employed with the former Penn-Central Railroad for 20 years and then with the General Services Administration in Washington, D.C. At the time of his death he was working for the Labor Department.
He enjoyed farming, raising tobacco for a number of years. He also liked gardening, especially his chrysanthemums, and fishing.
Mr. Sheckells was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Shriner, a master Mason and a member of St. James' Parish, the American Legion and the National Rifle Association.
Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy Mae Johnson; one son, Donald R. Sheckells of Shady Side; and two daughters, Joyce A. Phipps of Annapolis and Martha E. Sheckells of Tracys Landing, who, with his granddaughter, Krystel D. Sheckells, lived with and took care of him since 1994.
Also surviving are an additional six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Hugh Sheckells of Galesville and Stewart S. Sheckells of Sykesville.
He was the father of James "Capt. Jimmy" Johnson Sheckells who died Feb. 13, 2001, and the brother of the late Elliott Sheckells.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 24 at St. James' Parish, Route 2, Lothian. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James' Parish, 5757 Solomons Island Road, Lothian, MD 20711.

William Brodes
The date of birth was incorrect in the obituary for William Lennon Brodes, 69, of Annapolis, in The Capital on Nov. 9.
Mr. Brodes was born Dec. 26, 1932, in Easton, and died Nov. 7 at his home.

Bettie Bangert
Bettie Kaiser Bangert, 82, of Severna Park, died Nov. 14, 2001 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mrs. Bangert was born in Baltimore, the daughter of Earl and Laura Kaiser, and as a child lived with her family in various countries, including Brazil and Spain. She had lived in Anne Arundel County for the past 65 years.
A homemaker, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and being with her family.
Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Charles W. Bangert; two daughters, Juanita Keith of Arnold and Betty "Louie" Reese of Fort Myers, Fla.; one son, Charles W. Bangert Jr. of Severna Park; one brother, Edward Kaiser of Glen Burnie; one sister, Yolanda Stender of Maine; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Road, Severna Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5126, Glen Allen, VA 23058.

Clarence Marsh
Clarence Lawyer Marsh, 80, of Stevensville, died Nov. 13, 2001 at his home after suffering a heart attack.
Mr. Marsh, who was known to his family and friends as "Junie," was born in Frederick on July 25, 1921, the son of Clarence and Louise Marsh. He lived in Sumatra, Indonesia, for 10 years as a child when his father managed a Goodyear Rubber plantation.
He graduated from Western Maryland College in Westminster and held a degree in psychology from the University of Houston in Texas. During World War II he served in the Army in the Tank Corps.
He lived in New York City and Brooklyn, N.Y., until he moved to live with his sister, Nancy Straight, in Kent Island Estates. He previously was a reviewer for Hayden Publishing in New York.
His interests included classical music and opera, art history, science and classic cinema.
In addition to his sister, he is survived by a brother, Donald S. Marsh of Santa Fe, N.M.
Services are private. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Communities Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 939, Stevensville, MD 21666.

Leatha Price
Leatha C. "Lea" Price, 76, of Edgewater, died Nov. 13, 2001 at Anne Arundel Medical Center from complications of Parkinson's disease.
Mrs. Price was born Dec. 25, 1924, in Baltimore and was the daughter of the late George Wesley and Rosalie Agnes Fries. She graduated from Southern High School, where she was publisher of the school paper during her years there.
On July 12, 1947, she married Donald E. Price of Baltimore and they moved to Edgewater in November 1960.
During her marriage she also was advertising and personnel manager for 16 years at the former Britts Department Store in Parole.
She originated the Displaced Homemaker's Program at the YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. She retired in 1988 due to Parkinson's disease.
In November 1990 Mrs. Price started a suport group and subsequent Anne Arundel County Chapter of the American Parkinson's Disease Association. She also started a support group in southern Maryland.
A Johns Hopkins neurology brain autopsy is her final gift to find a cure for the disease, her family said.
She was a member of Parkwood United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, George Wesley Price of Dublin, Va., Charles Malvern Price of Salisbury, Paul Scott Price of Portland, Maine, and Philip Gregory Price of Prince Frederick; one sister, Carol Sparks of Bakersfield, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Funeral services will be at noon tomorrow at Parkwood United Methodist Church in Edgewater. Burial will be private.

Frances Stansbury
Frances L. Stansbury, 84. a longtime resident of Annapolis, died of naural causes Nov. 10, 2001 at her home.
Born July 7, 1917, in South Carolina, Mrs. Stansbury was a homemaker who also worked in real estate for some time.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revoution. She enjoyed doing oil paintings and murals and she loved nature and animals. She also was involved in the preservation of the Chesapeake Bay as she lived on the water.
Her husband, James Edward Stansbury, died in 1977.
Surviving are two children, James Stansbury of Cambridge and Nancy R. Stansbury of Annapolis; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, Pleasant Plains and St. Margarets roads. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Richard Bird
Richard A. Bird, 71, a retired lieutenant commander in the Naval Reserve and a resident of Davidsonville for 15 years, died Nov. 12, 2001 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a long illness.
Lt. Cmdr. Bird was born Jan. 13, 1931, in Englewood, N.J., and graduated from the University of Virginia. He served in the Navy during the Korean War.
He retired as a guidance counselor from the Prince George's County school system.
He was a Civil War buff.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Bird; one son, Greg S. Bird of Edgewater; one daughter, Gail L. Bird of Calvert County; and one brother, Leslie Bird of Massachusetts.
Services and burial will be private. Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Anne Arundel County Unit, 1041 Route 3 North, Gambrills, MD 21054.

Louise Campion
Louise Anna Campion, 79, of Glen Burnie, died of natural causes Nov. 12, 2001 at Mariner House at North Arundel in Glen Burnie.
Mrs. Campion was born May 31, 1923, in Baltimore. She had been employed as a dietitian for the Maryland Manor nursing home.
She was a member of Heritage Community Church in Severn and enjoyed bowling, playing bingo and travel.
Surviving are her children, Betty Wright and Roland Gover of Glen Burnie, Phyllis Turner of Delaware and Sue Jewell of Annapolis; her brother, Danny Vipperman of Delaware; two sisters, Elizabeth Meek of Wingate in Dorchester County and Betty Cervenka of Pasadena; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Singleton Fueral Home, 1 Second Ave. SW, Glen Burnie, where services will be at noon. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Ella Huss
Services for Ella Virginia Reed Huss, 82, a resident of Crofton for the last three years and previously of New Philadelphia, Ohio, were held Nov. 9, 2001 at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia.
Mrs. Huss died Nov. 5, 2001 at Anne Arundel Medical Center from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Born Oct. 1, 1920, in Uhrichsville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Evans and Lena Law Reed. She graduated as the salutatorian from Uhrichsville High School in 1938 and from Ohio State University in 1943 with a degree in business education.
After teaching for a year, she married Harry Otto Huss in 1944. They moved to Baltimore in 1948 where they raised their two children. In 1978, they retired to New Philadelphia. From there they managed and owned the historic Law Farm (c.1846) where her mother and grandfather, John Quincy Law, were born.
Mrs. Huss was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the War of 1812 and the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Virginia Huss of Crofton; a son, William Reed Huss of Wayland, Mass.; two granddaughters; and a step-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, and a brother, William Law Reed.
Burial was in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover, Ohio.

June Johnson
June E. Johnson, 86, of Arnold, died of natural causes Nov. 7, 2001 at Future Care-Chesapeake in Arnold after a long illness.
Born on June 23, 1916, in Springfield, Mass., and raised in Belmont, Mass., Mrs. Johnson graduated from Belmont High School and began her career at the former Socony Oil Co., now part of ExxonMobi. She finished her working career at Connecticut General Insurance Co.
A homemaker for 30 years, she lived in Morris, N.J., and then in Springfield for more than 40 years before moving to Arnold.
She loved to garden, knit, read and visit with her family.
Surviving are two sons, Carl W. Johnson of Severna Park and Gregory H. Johnson of Victoria, Texas; one daughter, Karen A. Edwards of Devon, Pa.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1041 Route 3 North, Gambrills, MD 21054.
