Mary Thomas
Mary Virginia Thomas, 76, of Edgewater, died of lung cancer Nov. 6, 2002 at her daughter's home in West River.
Mrs. Thomas was born May 23, 1926, in Roanoke, Va., the daughter of the late Charles and Fannie Dillon. She was a cosmetologist aide at Transcends Salon for the past 9 years and had worked at Rumors Salon, Lords and Ladies and South Side Salon.
She was a member of the ladies auxiliaries of the American Legion Post 7 in Crownsville and Post 226 in Mayo, the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Annapolis, the Annapolis Moose and the Woodland Beach Volunteer Fire Department. She also was a member of Eastport Democratic Club and Woodland Beach Community Church.
Her interests were country music dancing, the ocean, shopping, and her birds and dogs.
Surviving are her son, John Francis Thomas, of Edgewater; three daughters, Mary Cranston of West River, Patricia Thomas of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Janel Thomas of Upper Marlboro; two sisters, Ruth Altizer of Roanoke, Va., and Sandy Siemens of Fairfax, Va.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Joan Thomas.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 12 Ridgely Ave., where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow in Southern Maryland Memorial Gardens in Dunkirk.
Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Anne Arundel Unit, 1041 Route 3 North, Gambrills, MD 21054, or Hospice of the Chesapeake, 8424 Veterans Highway, Millersville, MD 21108.

Betty Barrett
Betty Marie Barrett, 69, of Chester, died Nov. 6, 2001 at Memorial Hospital in Easton.
Born Nov. 24, 1931, in Morgantown, W.Va., Mrs. Barrett was the daughter of the late William and Reva Metheny Thrash. She graduated from high school in West Virginia and in 1954 married Howard R. Barrett. They resided in Newark, N.J., and then in Takoma Park, Youngstown, Ohio, and Riverdale.
She worked as a bookkeeper for Glen Stevens Roofing Co. and later for Pat Goss's gas station, both in the Washington, D.C., area, before retiring and moving to Chester in 1995. Mr. Barrett died in 1972.
Surviving are three daughters, Pam Barrett of Chester, Brenda Fisher of Stevensville and Patty Barrett of Mineral Ridge, Ohio; two sons, Howard Barrett Jr. of Denton and Wiliams S. Barrett Sr. of Prince Frederick; a sister, Peg Anglin of Arkansas; a brother, Jack Thrash of Shreveport, La.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation is from 7 to 9 tonight at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Road, Chester, where services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Stevensville Cemetery.

Glenys Boykin
Retired Air Force Master Sgt. Glenys Leon Boykin, 57, of Glen Burnie and formerly of Wichita Falls, Texas, died Nov. 3, 2001 at the Chesapeake Hospice House in Linthicum of complications of diabetes and pancreatitis after a long illness.
Sgt. Boykin was born Nov. 29, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio, where he graduated in 1962 from Glenville High School. He served in the military for 22 years, retiring in 1984 after being stationed here and abroad. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and the National Defense Service Medal among other decorations.
He worked as a telecommunications systems technician for the National Security Agency at Fort Meade from 1985 to 2000.
His interests included bowling, playing pinochle and spades and travel.
On Feb. 15, 1963, he married Edwina Sims Boykin, who died March 13, 2000.
Surviving are two sons, Eric Boykin of Upper Marlboro and Kevin Boykin of Millersville; three daughters, Lisa Henry of Norman, Okla., and Deborah Boykin and Cheryl Hamrick, both of Glen Burnie; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow at Reese and Sons Mortuary, 821 West St., with a Christian wake at 10:30 a.m. and funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 8424 Veterans Highway, Millersville, MD 21108.

William Kelly
William A. "Billy" Kelly Sr., 33, of Glen Burnie, died Nov. 6, 2001 at the Shock-Trauma Center at University Hospital in Baltimore from injuries suffered Oct. 14 in a dirt bike accident in White Marsh.
Mr. Kelly was born Oct. 4, 1968, in Cheverly and raised in Anne Arundel County. He worked as a partner with Harbor Building and Design Corp. in Baltimore, specializing in home improvement.
He enjoyed fishing, dirt bike riding, woodworking and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife, Christina L. Kelly; two sons, David Kelly of Baltimore and Wiliam Allan Kelly Jr. of Glen Burnie; two daughters, Amanda Kelly of Glen Burnie and Jordan Kelly of Baltimore; his parents, William C. and Mona Kelly of Severna Park; one brother, Robert Kelly of Glen Burnie; and one sister, Sharon Kelly of Greensboro in Caroline County.
Visitation is from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 tonight at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where services will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Glen Haven Cemetery in Glen Burnie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Allan Kelly and Amanda Kelly college fund, State Employees Credit Union, 103 Chesapeake Center Court, Glen Burnie, MD 21060.

Bea-Hope Raichelson
Bea-Hope Raichelson, 76, of Heritage Harbour, died of heart failure Nov. 5, 2001 at her home.
Mrs. Raichelson was born April 19, 1925, in the Harlem section of New York City, and attended high school there.
She lived in Longmeadow, Mass., before coming to this area recently with her life partner, Arthur William F. Hope.
For 35 years she worked as a sales manager for a number of hotels in New England.
She enjoyed participating in the events and activities at Heritage Harbour.
Also surviving are one son, Steven Raichelson of Edgewater; one daughter, Shelley Raichelson of Florham Park, N.J.; one sister, Helene Trevens of Sarasota, Fla.; and one granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St.

Betty Timme
Betty A. Reynolds Timme, 72, a longtime resident of Fair Oaks in Severna Park, died of Alzheimer's disease Nov. 7, 2001 at Heartlands of Severna Park after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Timme was born May 8, 1929, and raised in Baltimore and was a part-time resident of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. A homemaker. she also was involved for the past 25 years in the family business, Overflo Warehousing LLC, in Baltimore.
She enjoyed travel and boating and caring for her family.
Surviving are her husband, Herman F. Timme; two sons, Bill and Gary Timme of Pasadena; two daughters, Linda Burgess of Severn and Barb Tice of Severna Park; and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway, where services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Brooklyn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Associataion, 1850 York Road, Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093-5142.

Jeffrey Augerinos
A memorial service was held Oct. 29 at the Crowder Funeral Home in Webster, Texas, for Jeffrey Lawrence Augerinos, 21, of Houston, Texas, and formerly of Arnold, who died Oct. 23, 2002 in Houston.
Born in Baltimore on May 16, 1981, Mr. Augerinos attended elementary school in the Arnold area. He moved to Texas with his family where he completed his schooling.
He was interested in nature and sports.
Survivors include his parents, Larry and Sharon Augerinos of Houston; one brother, Scott Augerinos of Houston; and his grandparents, Steve and Norma Augerinos and Audrey Rauser, all of Baltimore.

Emma Carter
Emma Marie Carter, 81, a lifelong resident of Anne Arundel County, died at her home Nov. 1, 2002 of Alzheimer's Disease after an illness of seven years.
Born in Birdsville, she attended the former Stanton Elementary School and graduated from the former Wiley H. Bates High School in 1937. She received her licensed practical nurse diploma in 1974 from the Community College of Baltimore.
She worked at Crownsville State Hospital from which she is retired. She also worked part-time at the Annapolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A lifetime member of Asbury United Methodist Church of Annapolis, she belonged to the Altar Guild, the Senior Choir, was a communion steward and member of a Bible class. She was also a member of the Auxiliary of American Legion Post 141 of Annapolis.
Survivors include three sons, Rodney Howard Jr. of Davidsonville, Bruce Howard of Huntsville, Ala., and Darryl Carter of Annapolis; three daughters, Beverly Taylor and Marcella Phelps of Annapolis and Louise Howard of Crofton; two brothers, Emanuel Thomas of Annapolis and Randolph Thomas of Prince George's County; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by former husbands, Rodney B. Howard and Joseph I. Carter.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. tomorrow at Reese Mortuary, 861 West St. A Christian wake will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Asbury United Methodist Church, 87 West St. followed by the funeral at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.

John Holt
Funeral services for John Marvin Holt, 84, of Baltimore and formerly of Annapolis, were held Oct. 22, 2002 at Douglas Memorial Community Church in Baltimore, with burial in Restland Memorial Park.
Mr. Holt, a retired Anne Arundel County teacher and administrator, died Oct. 16 at University Hospital in Baltimore after a long illness.
Born in Jackson, Miss., the son of the late Payton and Pearl Williams Holt, he received a bachelor's degree from Virginia State College and a master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He completed additional postgraduate work at the University of Oregon and the University of Maryland.
From 1949 to 1963 he taught physical education, health and driver's education at the former Wiley H. Bates High School, where he also was the coach of football, basketball, track, baseball and cross country.
In 1964 he became an administrator at MacArthur Junior High School at Fort Meade, the first African-American secondary school administrator appointed in Anne Arundel County following desegregation.
In 1966 he was an administrator at Northeast High School in Pasadena. He was one of 93 educators in the United States selected by the National Association of Secondary School Principals to participate in its administrative internship project.
He returned to MacArthur Junior High, becoming its principal in 1972. He served in this capacity for 11 years, retiring in 1983 after 43 years as an educator.
Mr. Holt was active in professional and community groups, serving as vice president of the Anne Arundel County Physical Education Association and president of the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association and of the Secondary Schools Administrators Association of Anne Arundel County.
He was treasurer of the Maryland Middle School Association, president of the Board of Directors of Educational Employees of the Anne Arundel County Federal Credit Union, past master of Universal Masonic Lodge 14 and president of the Anne Arundel County Retired Teachers Association.
He also was active in Boy Scouts, Phi Delta Kappa educational fraternity, various summer camp programs and Douglas Memorial Community Church.
In 1953 he was married to Olivia King who survives him. Also surviving are three nieces.
Arrangements were by Nutter Funeral Home in Baltimore.

Mary Jackson
Mary Louise Sellman "Bunny" Jackson, 63, associate judge of the Anne Arundel County Orphans Court, died Oct. 31, 2002 at her home in Davidsonville.
Born March 7, 1939, in Lothian, Mrs. Jackson was the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Louise E. Sellman. She received a bachelor of science degree in history from Morgan State University and a master's degree in education from Towson University.
She taught in Anne Arundel County and Baltimore city public schools. She was owner and president of Davidsonville Diversified Services Landscape and Maintenance Service.
She was the first African- American to hold a judge's position with the county's Orphans Court.
Mrs. Jackson took part in the civil rights March on Washington in August 1963 with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. In 1984 she was appointed to the National Advisory Council on Adult Education by President Ronald Reagan.
She was honored for her community services by former County Executive Robert A. Pascal.
Active in political and community organizations, she was a member of the Maryland Federation of Republican Women, and the Anne Arundel County Minority Business Enterprise.
She also belonged to Delta Sigma Theta, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Community Action Agency, the former Helping Hand of Annapolis and helped with the Kunta Kinte celebrations.
Her interests included history, politics, education, helping people, community service, cooking, and gardening.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Isaiah Jackson; three sons, Sheldon D. Sellman and Shelby D. Hemphill of Annapolis, and Isaiah M. Jackson of Davidsonville; three daughters, L. Michelle Jackson Hoff of Severn, Suzette E. Offer of Galesville, and Barya B. Offer of Millington; one sister, Shirley A. Perry of Galesville; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, James T. Sellman, and one sister, Catherine S. Bias.
Visitation will take place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. tomorrow at Mount Olive A.M.E. Church, 2 Hicks Ave., Annapolis, with services immediately following. Burial will follow at Adams United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lothian.
Arrangements are by Reese and Sons Mortuary.

Wyatt Medicus
Wyatt Medicus, 83, of Severna Park, died Oct. 30, 2002 at his home.
Mr. Medicus was born Sept. 22, 1919, and educated in Baltimore. He took electrical engineering evening courses at Johns Hopkins University.
He was employed as an electrical estimator, who worked on the original Chesapeake Bay Bridge and on several upgrades afterwards. During and after World War II he held several civilian positions on federal government projects here and abroad.
He was a member of an electrical union and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Surviving are his daughters, Dorothy F. Rudik of Severna Park and Beth Kelly of Austin, Texas; his sons, T. Wyatt Medicus of Maryland and Richard G. Medicus of Baltimore; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Melvin Medicus of Maryland.
He was the father of the late David C. Medicus and the brother of the late George and Howard Medicus Jr. He was predeceased by a longtime companion, Patricia F. Moore.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville, 1630 Edmondson Ave.
Memorial donations may be made to The Children's Home, 205 Bloomsbury Ave., Catonsville, MD 21228.

Joslin Morris
Harriet Melissa Joslin Fleron Morris, 92, of Severna Park and formerly of Fort Belvoir and Alexandria, Va., died of congestive heart failure Nov. 1, 2002 at the Severna Park Center, Genesis ElderCare Network.
Mrs. Morris was born in Trenton, N.J., and received degrees from the Parsons School of Design, Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute and L'Academie de Cuisine. She volunteered in the correspondence unit at The White House during the Reagan administration from 1981 to 1989.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church for more than 80 years and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was trained as an Ikebana flower arranger. A member of Mensa, she was an avid reader.
The widow of Army Maj. Gen. I. Sewell Morris, who died in 1975, she is survived by one son, Jay F. Morris of Sun City Center, Fla.; and two grandsons.
A funeral service will be at 9 a.m. Dec. 6 at the Fort Myer Chapel, with burial in Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hardesty Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Region, 4700 Mount Hope Drive, Baltimore, MD 21215-3200, or to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2701 Cameron Mills Road, Alexandria, VA 22302.

Megan Rafferty
Megan Lee "Meg" Rafferty, 29, of Crownsville, died Nov. 3, 2002 at the scene of injuries suffered in an automobile accident at Route 198 and Bald Eagle Road in Laurel.
Miss Rafferty was born Sept. 22, 1973, in Washington, D.C. She graduated from The Key School in 1991 and from The College of Wooster in Ohio, receiving a bachelor's degree in 1995. She continued her education with courses at Loyola College of Maryland and the University of Maryland.
She was a science teacher at Potomac High School in Oxon Hill.
Surviving are her parents, Cynthia L. and Patrick M. Rafferty of Crownsville; one brother, Shaun P. Rafferty of Crownsville; and her grandparents, Myrtle A. Reid of Glen Burnie and Theda Reid of Huntingtown.
A memorial gathering will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Potomac High School, 5211 Boydell Ave., Oxon Hill, MD 20745.
