Frances T. Aaron

CAMBRIDGE - Frances T. Aaron, 78, passed away late Wednesday night, Jan. 16, 2002 in the Emergency Room of Dorchester General Hospital.

She was born Dec. 26, 1923 in Cambridge, daughter of the late Samuel James and Beulah Pritchett Tyler.

Mrs. Aaron was raised in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School. On Dec. 26, 1941 she was married to Norman Lee Aaron. Although Mr. Aaron was a career military man, Mrs. Aaron made her home in Cambridge, except for a few years. Mr. Aaron passed away on Jan. 12, 1982.

Mrs. Aaron was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Dr. Hines' Bible Class of Grace. She was also a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher.

She is survived by one daughter, Francine A. Harrison of Cambridge; two grandchildren: Brian C. Harrison of Millersville and Autumn-Lynn Harrison of Cambridge; four sisters: Alice T. Bell of Salisbury, Louise T. Slacum of Cambridge, Margaret T. Kinnamon of Salisbury and Rebecca T. Willey of Cambridge; one brother, Robert J. Tyler of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred T. Bradshaw.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Thomas Funeral Home by the Rev. Douglas M. Ridley. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Beulah.

Friends will be received at the funeral home from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Pallbearers will be nephews of Mrs. Aaron.

Memorials may be made to the Norman Lee Aaron Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Sheila North, Cambridge-South Dorchester High School, 2475 Cambridge Beltway, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Jefferson P. Creighton

SECRETARY - Jefferson Parker Creighton, 96, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002 at his home.

He was born Nov. 7, 1905 in East New Market, son of the late George Washington "Wash" Creighton of Hooper Island and Sue Eliza Jefferson Creighton who was born near Church Creek.

His father died of pneumonia before he was born and his mother moved from Fishing Creek to East New Market where she taught for many years.

Mr. Creighton graduated from East New Market High School in 1922 and worked for seven years as a telegrapher and station agent for the Pennsylvania Railroad at various stations in Maryland and Delaware. In 1929, he moved to Wilmington, Del. and worked 37 years for the Dupont Co. In 1966 when he retired, he was the production control supervisor at Dupont's Chamber Works Plant in Deepwater, N.J.

On Nov. 9, 1939, Mr. Creighton married Lois Willing of Bivalve.

In his younger years, Mr. Creighton was an avid hunter, sailor, squash and tennis player, gardener and stamp collector. He had been a member of Choptank Lodge 138, A.F. & A.M. in East New Market for 73 years. In 1979 he was designated the Maryland Tree Farmer of the year by the American Forest Institute.

He is survived by his wife; two children, Suzanne Trice of Hurlock and John Creighton of Stevensville; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was his brother, George Webster Creighton of New York who died in 1992.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Pastor Carol Terry will officiate. Burial will follow in East New Market Cemetery.

William R. Ross J r.

FEDERALSBURG -William R. "Bill" Ross Jr., 83, of American Corner, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002 in the Caroline Nursing Home, Denton.

He was born May 2, 1918 in American Corner, the son of the late William R. Ross Sr. and Laura V. Downes Ross.

He was married to Irene Lankford Ross who died March 29, 1994.

Mr. Ross was a mink and grain farmer.

He is survived by a niece, Louise E. Gray of Federalsburg and a caregiver, Connie M. Jones of Federalsburg.

Mr. Ross was preceded in death by four sisters, Ethel R. Bowdle, Anna Robinson, Ruth Andrews and Catherine Ross.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg. Burial will follow at Hill Crest Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service Sunday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Caroline Nursing Home, 520 Kerr Ave., Denton, MD 21629.

Dr. Philip A. Insley Sr.

SALISBURY - Dr. Philip A. Insley Sr., 93, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002 in the Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Cambridge, the son of the late Judge T. Sangston and Emily Burdick Winterbottom Insley. His wife, Elinor Nichols Insley preceded him in death.

Dr. Insley graduated from University of Maryland, College Park in 1930 and the University of Maryland Medical School in 1934. While in school he was elected to the honorary fraternity ODK and was a member of Sigma Chi. Following medical school graduation Dr. Insley continued training in surgery under the preceptorship of Dr. Robert Bay at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore.

Dr. Insley opened his practice in Salisbury in 1936. Declared an essential doctor in the Salisbury area during World War II, Dr. Insley was deferred from active duty. During the last year of WWII, in addition to his general surgery practice and duties as a general practitioner, Dr. Insley delivered more than 250 babies. Later in his career he limited his practice to general surgery and general practice until his retirement in 1978.

Dr. Insley served as president of Wicomico County Medical Society (1945) and was Chief of Staff of Peninsula General Hospital (1955-1956). During his tenure as chief of staff, he was very active in the planning and building of Peninsula Regional Medical Center's new building.

Dr. Insley was a charter member of the Salisbury Biracial Commission, which was involved in the peaceful integration of Wicomico County. He was also a member of The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, and a member and past president of the Salisbury Rotary Club (1955-1956). In 1997 he was recognized for 57 years of service to the Rotary Club of Salisbury and Rotary International.

His professional affiliations include: American College of Surgeons, Southern Medical Association, American Board of Abdominal Surgeons and the Wicomico County Medical Society. He was a member of Green Hill Yacht and Country Club where he was a former club champion and senior club champion. He also won the President's Cup three times. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where he served as past president of the Board of Trustees.

Dr. Insley is survived by his son, Dr. Philip A. Insley Jr. and his wife, Jacqueline C. Insley of Salisbury; a daughter, Emily Loudell Insley of Salisbury; four grandchildren: Virginia Brennan of Salisbury, Robin Insley of New York City, Kristin Brady of Annapolis and Philip A. Insley III of Baltimore; five great-grandchildren and one niece.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Insley Carroll.

A funeral service was held Saturday in Trinity UM Church in Salisbury with the Rev. George R. Patterson officiating. Burial followed in Parsons Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund, 112 High St., Salisbury, MD 21802.

Arrangements are being handled by the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.

Charles F. Wheatley

BALTIMORE - Charles F. Wheatley, 80, of Cornersville, passed away at the V.A. Hospital in Baltimore on Wednesday night, February 13, 2002.

He was born in Baltimore on Oct. 22, 1921, the son of the late John and Florence Thomas Wheatley. He was raised and attended public schools in Baltimore and the Neck District.

He served in the U.S. Army from October of 1942 to February of 1946. From December of 1944 to January of 1946 he participated in the Rhineland-Central Europe campaigns.

As a young man, he worked as a gardener at Pokety Farms and for 38 years was employed by William Wingate as a brick mason and plasterer.

He was a member of Choptank Memorial Post 7460 V.F.W. and a charter member of the Neck District Volunteer Fire Co. Mr. Wheatley enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, baseball and skeet shooting.

He is survived by his wife, the former Evelyn Hill, whom he married on June 14, 1947; two daughters, Brenda Martin and her husband David of Cambridge, and Sharon Pfeffer and her husband Curtis of Church Creek; one son, Chaplain John C .Wheatley, captain, U.S. Army and his wife Suzanne of Frederick, Md.; eight grandchildren, Kevin Abbott, Brian Abbott, Melissa Willoughby, Kristen Martin, Valerie Hughes, Jamie Burton, Jessica Wheatley and Lauren Wheatley; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Gordon Wheatley of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Adeline Paris and a brother, Thomas Wheatley.

A funeral service was conducted at the Thomas Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Saturday by the Rev. Gloria S. Attix. Burial took place in the Spedden-Seward Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Beckwith United Methodist Church, c/o Harold Miller, 5730 Morris Neck Rd., Cambridge MD 21613. Friends were received at the funeral home on Friday night from 7:30 to 9.

Pall bearers were Curtis Pfeffer, David Martin, Brian Abbott, Kevin Abbott, Mike Hughes, and Mike Willoughby.

Meriam W. Neal

ANDERSONTOWN - Meriam W. Neal of Andersontown, near Denton, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002 at her home. She was 93.

Born in Linkwood, Mrs. Neal was the daughter of the late Harry Cuthbert Wheatley and Bertha Coulbourne Wheatley and a stepdaughter of the late Myrtle Hanson Wheatley.

She was a homemaker and farmer.

Mrs. Neal had been a member of Concord United Methodist Church since she was a child. For many years, she was in charge of the MYF, a Sunday School teacher and a member of the W.S.C.S., all at Concord Church.

She was a camp counselor at Camp Pecometh and had canvassed for the American Cancer Society for many years.

Her husband, Dallas Neal, died on Jan. 30, 1983.

Mrs. Neal is survived by three sons, D. Wheatley Neal of Federalsburg, J.D. Neal, and Keith A. Neal, both of Denton; four daughters, Mary Katherine Elzey of Cambridge, Myrtle Ann Scott of Hickman, Jean Behlke of Denton and Janet Reed of Milton, Del.; one foster son, Paul Emory Fugitt of Fredericksburg, Va.; one sister, Nina Lee Nuttle of Aberdeen; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Wheatley and T. George Wheatley; and one sister, Frankie W. Harmon.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Concord United Methodist Church, Federalsburg Highway, in Concord. Friends may call at the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Concord United Methodist Church, c/o Susan Neal, 8491 Andersontown Road, Denton, MD 21629, or the Caroline Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.

Margaret E. S. Jews

BALTIMORE - Margaret Elizabeth Saunders Jews died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002 at the Alice Manor Nursing Home in Baltimore City. She was 94.

Born Jan. 18, 1908, she was the daughter of the late George and Marietta Saunders of Cambridge. She was one of nine children residing on Park Lane.

Mrs. Jews married Randolph Jews in 1934 and from their union produced three children: a daughter, Marlyn and two sons, Randolph and LaMonte. All reside in Baltimore.

Mrs. Jews was a faithful member of Waugh United Methodist Church since the age of 6. She served the church on numerous committees and boards.

She was a member of the United Methodist Women for more and 20 years, a member of the Sewing Circle and served as treasurer of the Waugh Cemetery Organization. She was a life-long member of the Elks I.P.O.E. of W., where as a daughter Elk, she held many offices, including grand ruler.

Mrs. Jews loved to travel with her late sister-in-law Mable Jews on trips around the country and abroad.

Survivors beside her three children include a sister, Tivolia Carter of Cambridge; two daughters-in-law, Brenda Jews and Linda Jews, both of Baltimore; five grandchildren, Dana Bell-Russell of Silver Spring, Tanya Hall of Jacksonville, Fla., DeBrandon Jews, Mark Jews and Adrienne Jews, all of Baltimore; four great-grandchildren, DeBrandon Jews Jr. of Miami, Fla., Andre Hall and Aaron Hall of Jacksonville, Fla., and Justin Carr of Baltimore; nieces and nephews Monya Conway, Gretchen Cephas, William Jews Jr., Valeria Henry, Chauncey Saunders, Beverly Saunders, Carlene Carter, George Saunders Jr., Rommie Saunders and Umberto Saunders; and special friends Evelyn McCarter, Gladys Johnson, Gloria Jones, Audrey Jews and Mildred Myster. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Waugh Chapel U.M. Church, with the Rev. Dr. William T. Wallace Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Waugh Cemetery.

There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Waugh Church Building Fund.

The Henry Funeral Home is handling the arrangement.

Amelia M. Mills

CAMBRIDGE - Amelia M. Mills, 82, of Bonnie Brook, died Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 20, 2002 at her home.

She was born Feb. 26, 1919 at the Meyer Homeplace on Maple Dam Road, Cambridge, the daughter of the late August G. Meyer and Bessie Mae Windsor Meyer.

On May 13, 1939 she married Melvin W. Mills.

Mrs. Mills was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Peachblossom Ave., Cambridge.

Mrs. Mills liked to crochet. She enjoyed being with her family.

In 1949 she worked for Singer Sewing Co. as a sewing instructor. In 1956 she was a graduate of the Eastern Shore Hospital Practical Nursing program where she worked as an LPN at the hospital.

In 1961 she moved to Reistertown. Through the years she was employed at the Westminster Maryland Hospital, Rosewood State Hospital and Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. She served as treasurer of the MLPNA (Maryland Licensed Practical Nurses Association) and assisted the MLPNA Presidents in organizing the various divisions of the state. Mrs. Mills also served on the National LPN Education Committee as chairman.

She attended many National LPN Conventions and was employed by the Maryland Licensed Practical Nurses Association in Baltimore as the executive director from 1972 to 1980. Mrs. Mills was featured in the March 2000 publication of the Maryland Licensed Practical Nurses Association, Inc., commending her outstanding nursing career. Mrs. Mills had been a continuous member in the MLPNA since 1960.

Mrs. Mills had also served on the Board of Directors for the Department of Social Services and volunteered at Dorchester General Hospital for the director of Nursing.

In July of 1980 she and her husband returned to Cambridge due to Mr. Mills' retirement.

Surviving besides her husband of 62 years is a daughter, Karen Mills Webster and her husband, Paul; Sandra Skiles DeLaney of Old Town, Fla., whom Mrs. Mills considered a daughter; six sisters: Clara M. Handy, Esther R. Hurley, both of Cambridge, Dorothy M. Slacum of East New Market, Bessie W. Nield of Stevensville, Mary R. Moore of Richlands, Va., Sarah A. Bradshaw of East New Market; four brothers: Phillip C. Meyer, The Rev. Donald G. Meyer, both of Laurel, Del., Norman W. Meyer of Federalsburg and August W. Meyer of Sykesville.

She is also survived by two grandchildren, Richard W. Lake and his wife, Wendy, Michael M. Lake and his wife, Robin; six great-grandchildren: Caleb, Hannah, Richard, Brittany, Amelia and Michael Lake; four stepgrandchildren, Paul Webster Jr., Jeffrey Webster, Cheri Spangler and her husband, Sale, Teri Klaverweiden and her husband, Jay; six stepgreat-grandchildren, John and Jill Webster, Jake Klaverweiden, Kelsey, Evan and Stephanie Spangler.

Preceding her in death besides her parents were three brothers, Perry F. Meyer, Allen David Meyer and W. Alvin Meyer.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, 900 Peachblossom Ave., Cambridge, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be the Rev. Joan P. Evans. Burial will follow at East New Market Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard William Lake, Michael Melvin Lake, Richard Carl Lake, John Edward Webster, Martin Mills, Keith Mills and Gregory Johnson.

Special honorary pallbearer will be Caleb Meyer Lake.

Memorial offerings may be made in Mrs. Mills' memory to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802-1733 or to the Immanuel United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 900 Peachblossom Ave., Cambridge, MD 21613.

Yvonne M. Ireland

CORNERSVILLE - Yvonne M. Ireland, 92, passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001 at Dorchester General Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Douglass C. Ireland.

A memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. Sunday at St. John's Chapel at Cornersville by the Rev. Richard E. Hayes. Burial will take place in the adjoining churchyard.

Memorials may be made to either St. John's Chapel at Cornersville, 1213 Hudson Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or the Neck District Volunteer Fire Company, 945 Cooks Point Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Norman W. Willey

FEDERALSBURG - Norman "Bill" Willey, 88, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002 at the Shore Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Denton, after a brief illness.

He was born May 24, 1913 in Sussex County, Del. the son of the late William Edward and Julia Hudson Willey.

Mr. Willey moved to Federalsburg in 1934, where he owned a local and long-distance trucking business. In 1958 he became a partner in R&W Grocery with his son-in-law, Charles Ruf, until his retirement in 1973.

Mr. Willey was a retired member of the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company, where he held the distinction of being the oldest member.

In addition to his wife of 68 years, the former Dorothy Moore, whom he married July 24, 1934, he is survived by two daughters, Norma Lee Ruf and her husband, Charles of Federalsburg and Linda Holl of Newark, Del.; six sisters: Ruth Sweetman of Palm Desert, Calif., Grace Redlus of Dover, Del., Mary Scott of Federalsburg, Rena Petter of Greensboro, N.C., Kathleen Cain of Harrington, Del. and Bonnie Collins of Ocean View, Del.; and two brothers, Samuel Willey of Georgetown, Del. and William Willey of Federalsburg. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Debra Connor, Craig Ruf, Sharon Bucci, Michelle Colantonio, Michael Holl and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at the Williamson Funeral Home in Federalsburg with the Rev. Denzil Cheek and the Rev. David Heistand officiating. Officers and members of the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company will conduct a Firemen's Memorial service at that time. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery in Federalsburg.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Memorial donations may be made to the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company, 208 North University Ave., Federalsburg, MD 21632.

Shirley H. Baer

FEDERALSBURG - Shirley Jane Henry Baer, 68, of Seaford, Del., died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002 at the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital.

She was born Feb. 17, 1934 in Preston, the daughter of the late Levin J. and Christina Schevel Henry.

She was a homemaker and an avid reader. She was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Preston.

Mrs. Baer is survived by her husband of 50 years, George Baer, whom she married on Nov. 9, 1951; a son, Robert Baer of Salisbury; a daughter, Deborah Street of Bridgeville, Del.; one granddaughter and two grandsons; three sisters, Anna H. Lord of Seaford, Martha Hopkins of Easton and Evelyn Tucker of Preston and one brother, William Henry of Cookeville, Tenn.

A brother, Levin Henry Jr. preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg. Burial will follow in Bridgeville Cemetery in Bridgeville, Del. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 39, Preston, MD 21655.

Mabel D. C. Henry

HURLOCK - Mabel Della Clark Henry, 68, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002 at Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge.

She was born Oct. 30, 1933 in Hicksburg, the daughter of the late Charlie H. Clark and Agnes DeShields Clark.

Mrs. Henry graduated from St. Clair High School in Cambridge and later married Floyd Henry Jr. He preceded her in death.

She was a member of Thompson Chapel United Methodist Church in Thompsontown for many years.

Mrs. Henry is survived by one sister, Agnes Brooks of Baltimore and one brother, Randolph Clark of Catonsville.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. March 5 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Elaine Ayers officiating. Burial will follow in Thompsontown Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Marion T. White

TRAPPE - Marion T. White, 86, died on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 26, 2002 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton as a result of injuries received in an auto accident.

A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. today at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge. The Rev. David Wooten will officiate.

Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Day Adult Day Care Center, 2474 Cambridge Beltway, Cambridge, MD 21613.
