Daniel E. Wongus Sr.

CAMBRIDGE - Daniel Edward Wongus Sr., 85, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003 at the Mallard Bay Nursing Care

Center, where he had resided since September 1998.

He was born March 19, 1917 in Vienna, the son of the late Mitchell James and Hattie Bell Carter Wongus.

Mr. Wongus was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County. He joined the U.S. Army in October 1941 and was honorably discharged in June 1945. It was during this time he met and married his companion of 59 plus years. He wed Alamae Frances Marchbanks on March 11, 1943 and from this union, there are six children.

Mr. Wongus worked for many years for the Darco fertilizer company before going to work for R. J. Reynolds Foods. He was well known among his fellow employees for his work on the retort machine.

He was a member of Waugh Chapel United Methodist Church where for many years he was a member of the United Methodist Men and the Usher Board.

Mr. Wongus was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles.

Besides his wife, Mr. Wongus is survived by three sons, Daniel Jr. and Harold Eugene, both of Cambridge and Donald Richard (Diane) of Decatur, Ga.; three daughters, Patricia Artis (Isaac) of Greenville, N.C., Linda Schley (Mark) of Washington, D.C. and Brenda Davis (Frederick) of Cambridge. He is also survived by 13 grandchilden; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Mitchell Wongus of Cambridge; three sisters, Sarah L. Carter of Baltimore, Roberta A. Hopkins of New Jersey and Anna V. Wongus of Cambridge; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins and a special friend, James Bryan of Cambridge.

Besides his parents Mr. Wongus was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry F. and James M. Wongus; a sister, Rose P. Sterling and three special friends, Calvin Ross, Lubby Maddox and Charles Vernon Davis Sr.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Waugh Chapel UM Church with the Rev. Dr. William T. Wallace Sr. officiating. Burial will be scheduled for Monday at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery, Eastern Shore at Beulah. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

The Henry Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge is handling the arrangements.

Victor M. Horn

EASTON - Victor M. Horn, 75, died on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.

He was born March 27, 1927 in Longwoods, the son of the late Willie and Alice Horn.

After attending public schools in Longwoods, he joined the Merchant Marines in 1945. After his release from duty he returned to Easton where he worked for the Telephone Company as a cable splicer. In 1955 Mr. Horn started a marine company and also worked part-time for Sinclair Oil until 1964. At that time he devoted himself full-time to his boat business, Marine Mart, until retiring in 1999. Mr. Horn is survived by his wife, the former Ruth McCarty, whom he married June 24, 1949; a daughter, Peggy Mende of Hillsboro; a son, Irvin Horn of Federalsburg; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Ann Horn on March 7, 1973. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Easton. Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery in Easton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 tonight.

Charles L. Wilson

GLEN BURNIE - Charles L. Wilson, passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2003. Mr. Wilson was an Eastern Shore waterman for many years. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Wilson; three sons, Kenneth W. Cheesman, James R. Wilson, Christopher R. Wilson and one daughter, Theresa Wright; four sisters; one brother and 12 grandchildren. Friends may call at the Hoffman-Skarda Funeral Home, 3218 Hudson St., Baltimore, today from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be private.

The family requests no flowers and would like contributions to help offset burial expenses be sent to Sharon Wilson, 405 Luther Road, Glen Burnie, MD 21061.

Marjorie B. Woodland

CAMBRIDGE - Marjorie B. Woodland, 86, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003 at the Dorchester General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Dryden S. Woodland. Funeral arrangements, which are incomplete, are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge.

William B. Porter

LAUREL, Del. - William "Billy" Bruce Porter, 20, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

He loved school and music. In school he was awarded various achievement awards. He was to graduate in 2003 from the Seaford O H Program.

He is survived by his father, Bruce Porter of Laurel, Del.; mother and stepfather, Leigh A. Murtagh and Donald of Laurel, Del.; three sisters, Jenna L. Murtagh and Donna McGinnis, both of Laruel and Christine Jefferson of Seaford, Del.; a brother, Tony Murtagh of Laurel, Del.; grandparents, Bill and Carol Travers of East New Market; grandmother, Carmella Porter of Laurel; great-grandmother, Elizabeth Travers of Cambridge; stepgrandparents, Bill and Helen Swartz of Georgetown, Del.; uncle and aunt, Ken and Claire Porter of Charlotte, N.C.; aunt and uncle, Margaret and Paul Glavina of Australia; uncle, Jon Travers of Las Vegas, Nevada; nana, Nancy Howard of Laurel, Del. and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Eldridge S. Porter; great-grandfather, William B. Travers Sr.; great-grandmother, Nellie Dalious.Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Oak Grove, Del. with Pastor Diane E. Melson officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.

Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Short Funeral Home in Laurel, Del.

Katherine L. Moore

REISTERSTOWN, MD. - Katherine L. Moore, 94, passed as on Thursday, January 23, 2003.

She was born on June 3, 1908,at Bishops Head, the daughter of the late Winfield Pritchard and Glennie Flora Murphy.

Mrs. Moore was raised and attended schools at Bishops Head. She moved to Baltimore in 1932 and worked as a telephone operator for the C&P Telephone Company for 38 years. She retired in the late 1960's or early 1970's. After retirement, she returned to Bishops Head.

In 1991, she moved to Randallstown, MD. For the past two years, she was a resident of the Future Care Nursing Home where she passed away on Thursday.

She married Albert Paul Moore on March 31, 1932. Mr. Moore died on died on October 21, 1979.

Mrs. Moore was a member of St. Thomas United Methodist Church in Bishops Head. She was a member of VFW Post #521 Auxillary of Owings Mills, MD., and a member of the C&P Telephone Pioneers.

Survivors include a grandson, William J. Moore Jr. of Pikesville; a grand daughter, Barbara Dailey of Reisterstown; a daughter in law, Kathyrn Moore of Randallstown; four great grandchildren, Shannon Dailey, Jessica Dailey, Athena Farmer, and Amber Flueford. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Moore was preceeded her in death by a son, William J. Moore, fours sisters and five brothers.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday afternoon at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. David Kreek officiating.

Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday during the hour preceding the service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas United Methodist Church, C/O Mrs. Phyllis Mills, 1817 Crocheron Road, Bishops Head, MD. 21672

Helen Jean Bigio

Helen Jean Bigio, 70, died on Friday, January 24, 2003.

She was born April 19, 1932 at Hudson in Cambridge, Maryland, the daughter of the late Russell and Helen Spedden Everhart.

Helen Bigio was a 1949 graduate of Cambridge High School, where she graduated first in her class. In 1952, she graduated from Church Home Hospital School of Nursing, Baltimore. She attended Johns Hopkins University for a year.

Ms. Bigio was the Assistant Director of Nursing Service at Union Memorial Hospital, from where she resigned due to poor health.

Ms. Bigio had previously been married to Jules Bigio of Boca Raton, Florida. When she was younger she was a member of Spedden United Methodist Church.

Ms. Bigio loved cats. She enjoyed art, reading dry English mysteries and watching English movies on MPT (Maryland Public Television).

She is survived, in addition to her previous husband, by her sister, Doris McClain and brother in law, Jack McClain, of Hudson; an aunt, Myrtle Spedden of Cambridge; one niece, Sharon Sweet of Bowie, MD; two nephews, Kenneth M. Frosch, Jr., of Alexandria, Va., and John Frosch of Laurel, MD; two grand nieces and one grand nephew.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27, at the gravesite at Spedden-Sweard Cemetary, Hills Point, Cambridge. Officiating at the service will be the Reverend Don A. Schell.

Memorial offerings may be made to the Dorchester County Humane Society, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD., 21613 or to Spedden United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Carolyn Wright, 507 Gay St., Cambridge, MD 21613.

Reverend Arthur Franklin Bebee

The Reverend Arthur Franklin Bebee, 89, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2003. He was born at Lancing, Mich., the son of the late Matthew and Winnifred Burdick Bebee.

He was a graduate of Anderson College, Anderson, Ind. The Rev. Bebee had worked as a substitute teacher in Salisbury public schools for many years. He also began the Assateague State Park seashore ministry. Since 1969, the Rev. Bebee resided in Salisbury, when he moved there from Federalsburg

To build a new church in the Salisbury community, now known as Sonlife Community Church. The Rev. Bebee pastured the First Church of God in Federalsburg from 1952 until 1969.

In 1938, me married Myrtle Kaefer Bebee. She died in Sept. 2000.

The Rev. Bebee was an active member of Rotary International, having a perfect attendance record for nearly 50 years, he served as President of the Federalsburg Rotary Club and was a member of the Salisbury Rotary Club, where he received the Rotarian of the Year Award, and was given a Life Membership. He was a past president of the Tri-State Ministerial Assembly of the Church of God.

The Rev. Bebee served on many boards in the Salisbury community. He was a charter member and President of the Pine Bluff Village Board. He was a resident of the village at the time of his death. The Rev. Bebee served on the Board of Dove Pointe and was active with the Holly Center. He was a volunteer chaplain at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center for many years, and began the chaplaincy program at Deer's Head Hospital in Salisbury.

Survivors include three sons, Dr. Richard F. Bebee of Chillicothe, Ohio, and his wife, Mary Lynne of Salisbury, Douglas K. Bebee and his wife Patricia, of Indianapolis, Ind., and David A. Bebee of San Francisco, Calif; three grandchildren, Bradley R. Bebee of Arlington, Va., Scott D. Bebee of Indianapolis, and Christina K. Bebee of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, the Rev. Carlton Bebee of Anderson, Ind., and Samuel Bebee of Salisbury; five sisters in law, Marion K. Bebee of Lockport, N.Y., Opal Bebee of Anderson, Ind., Millie Schwalenburg of Orchard Park, N.Y., Arleen Kaefer of Sierra Madre, Calif, and Doris Bebee of Salisbury; one brother in law, Al Kaefer of Colden, N.Y.

The Rev. Bebee was preceeded in death by a brother, James Bebee.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27, at Sonlife Community Church, 6975 Grenada Drive, Salisbury, with the Rev. Marshall Wise officiating.

Burial will be at Duell Cemetery in Orchard Park, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthur F. and Myrtle K. Bebee Scholarship Fund, Anderson University, 1100 E. Third St., Anderson, Ind., 46012-3462; or the Sonlife Community Church, 6975 Grenada Drive, Salisbury, MD. 21801.

George H. Hamel

CAMBRIDGE - George H. Hamel, 59, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2003, at the Dorchester General Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Alfreda "Butchie" Hamel of Madison.

Funeral arrangements, which are incomplete, are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge.

Kiambrae L. Parker

CAMBRIDGE - Kiambrae Le'Mar "Squirm" Parker, 23, passed away Saturday, Jan. 24, 2003 in Virginia.

He was born Feb. 2, 1979 in Cambridge and graduated from Harrington High School in Bryn Mawr, Pa.

Mr. Parker is survived by his mother, Linda Parker King; father, Clarence Garnett; a fiancée, Monica Flores; two children, Kiambrae Jr. and Simone'; grandmothers, Okrie Young and Mattie Parker; several aunts and uncles and numerous cousins.

The viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Cambridge.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion Baptist Church, 600 Cross St., Cambridge.

Kathleen L. Moore

REISTERSTOWN - Kathleen L. Moore, 94, formerly of Bishops Head, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003 at the Future Care, Cherrywood in Reisterstown. She had been a resident at the Future Care Nursing Home for the past two years.

She was born June 3, 1908 at Bishops Head, the daughter of the late Winfield Pritchard and Glennie Flora Murphy Murphy.

Mrs. Moore was raised and had attended schools at Bishops Head. On March 31, 1932 she was married to Albert Paul Moore. Shortly after they were married they moved to Baltimore where Mrs. Moore worked as a telephone operator for the C&P Telephone Co. for 38 years. She retired in the late 1960s or early 1970s.

After her retirement they moved back to Bishops Head. Mr. Moore passed away on Oct. 21, 1979. In 1991 she moved to Randallstown.

Mary Lee Pritchett

CAMBRIDGE - Mary Lee Pritchett, 83, passed away Sunday night, Jan. 26, 2003 at the Mallard Bay Care Center. She had resided at Mallard Bay for several years. She was the wife of the late J. Preston Pritchett.

Mrs. Pritchett was born Jan. 17, 1920 at Wingate, the daughter of the late Thelma Irene Jones Pritchett. She was raised at Wingate and attended public schools at Crapo.

For many years Mrs. Pritchett worked at the Meredith and Meredith Seafood Co. at Toddville, picking crabs and shucking oysters. She was married to Mr. Pritchett on Oct. 11, 1941 and made her home at Toddville until moving to Cambridge in February of 1992. Mr. Pritchett passed away on April 26, 1965.

She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church at Toddville, the Toddville Homemakers and she enjoyed sewing.

Mr. Pritchett is survived by two daughters, Shirley Tolley of Cambridge and Irene Seigfried of Bernville, Pa.; five grandchildren, Eugene Tolley Jr., Linda Marshall, Michael Tolley, Robert S. Reed and Sherry Mengal and 10 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Thomas Funeral Home by the Rev. Pardee Bramble. Burial will take place in Dorchester Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the funeral home during the hour preceding the service.

George H. Hamel Sr.

MADISON - George H. Hamel Sr., 59, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003 at the Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge. He had been in failing health since September.

He was born March 20, 1943 at King of Prussia, Pa., the son of the late Harold and Elizabeth Buler Hamel.

He attended schools at St. Augustus in Bridgeport, Pa. and also schools in Norristown, Pa. Some years ago he had worked for the Fine Grinding Co. in Pennsylvania and also worked as a contractor building houses.

He had been a member of the Friendship Hook and Ladder Co. in Boyertown, Pa. and had also been a member of the Liberty Volunteer Fire Company in New Berlinville, Pa.

On Feb. 10, 1962 he married the former Alfreda Malloy. They moved to Madison in 1986. Mr. Hamel had worked as a commercial waterman since living here.

His survivors include his wife, Alfreda "Butchie" Hamel of Madison; one daughter, Shirley A. Hilbert of Bechtelsville, Pa.; one son, George W. Hamel Jr. of Madison; four grandchildren, Jeremy Hilbert, Heather Hilbert, Crystal Hamel and Randy Hamel. He is also survived by one brother, Edward Hamel of Norristown, Pa.; one sister, Elizabeth VanDehaar of Wilmington, N.C.; two stepbrothers, Warren Slough of Norristown, Pa. and James Slough of Pottstown, Pa. and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Madison United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert G. Kirkley officiating. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.

Russell J. Woolford

CAMBRIDGE - Russell James Woolford, 73, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2003 after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Woolford was born Feb. 18, 1929 in Dorchester County, the son of the late George and Elizabeth Cornish Woolford. He was educated in the Dorchester County public school system and graduated from F.D. St. Clair in 1946.

In 1949 he joined the United States Army where he served in the Korean War as Sgt. 1st. Class in 1951.

Mr. Woolford was a 30-year member of Cpl. Herman Hughes American Legion, Post 87 of Cambridge where he served as Post and County Commander for several years. He was a member of Soul Outreach Christian Center in Cambridge.

Mr. Woolford was employed at Bumble Bee Seafood in Cambridge as a refrigeration engineer. He also worked for approximately 30 years at Button Neck Farm as an equipment operator. He retired from Black and Decker in Easton as a machine operator in 1996 after nine years of employment.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael; a daughter, Linda and two brothers, Harvey and Calvin Woolford.

Mr. Woolford is survived by his wife of 23 years, Mary; seven sons - Russell (Vandolia), Eugene (Margaret), Rodney (Tanya), Leslie, Anthony and Tyron (Shantae) of Cambridge and Gerald (Jennie Lee) of Vallejo, Calif.; two daughters, Constance Woolford of Salisbury and Charise Ross of Cambridge and one special daughter, Mary Green (William) Ennals of Cambridge; one sister, Sarah Woolford Foster of Cambridge and two brothers, George Woolford of Beulah and Emerson of Temperanceville, Va. He is also survived by five sisters-in-law, Helen Molock, Thelma Green and Joyce Green of Cambridge, Mary Woolford of Beulah and Thelma Woolford of Temperanceville, Va.; four brothers-in-law, Thomas Foster, Bishop J. J . Green, Robert Green and Calvin Molock of Cambridge; two uncles, Fred Cornish and Ormes Conaway of Cambridge; six aunts, Essie Mae Woolford, Geraldine Cornish, Louise Pinder, Bertha Pinkett, Margaret Molock of Cambridge and Isadore Brown of Newark, N.J.; a special cousin, Silas Woolford of Cambridge; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the United Missionary Baptist Church, 1006 Phillips St., Cambridge. Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery, Eastern Shore at Beulah.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Cambridge and during the hour preceding the service at the church on Wednesday.

Rowena R. Blades

CHOPTANK - Rowena Ruth Blades, 93, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003 at The Pines in Easton.

She was born Dec. 21, 1909 at Choptank, the daughter of the late George Magers and Lurhetta Dunham Magers. Mrs. Blades had worked as a seamstress for Rosenblum Shirt Factory and also worked as a waitress at the Tastee Freeze in Easton.

She is survived by two daughters, Lona Ruth Jackson of Choptank and E. Jane Hurley of Preston; two sons, Marvin Clark Blades of Choptank, Roger Everett Blades of Parsonsburg; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Everett Blades and a daughter, Erma I. Davis.

Funeral services will be held noon Wednesday at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home in Federalsburg. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Junior Order Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the care of Clark Blades, c/o Jane Hurley, P.O. Box 134, Preston, MD 21655.
