ROBERT C. MAYFIELD SR.
Robert Curry Mayfield Sr., 87, Corinth, W.Va., and Tulsa, Okla., went to be with the Lord Thursday, July 7, 2005.

Bob served in the U.S. Navy from July 1941 to July 1947 as a medical corpsman stationed in various areas of the Pacific Theater including the island of Eniwetoc, Marshall Islands.
During the Navy years, Bob was called into the ministry. He met Ruth Fitzwater of Swanton at a Pentecostal church in Washington, D.C., and they were married there on June 20, 1948. Ruth had already been a pastor of various churches in West Virginia and North Carolina. Together Bob and Ruth graduated from Central Bible College in Springfield, Mo.
As a minister of the Assemblies of God, Rev. Robert Mayfield pastored Indiana churches at Medaryville, Hedrick, and Chesterton. In 1971 the Mayfields moved to Garrett County, and began a pastorate of 15 years at Rocky Drean Assembly of God, Oakland. Upon his retirement from pastoring, Rev. Mayfield became a member of Crellin Assembly of God, Crellin.
While pastoring in Oakland, Bob also worked for Garrett County Memorial Hospital as an orderly. This was an additional ministry field where he assisted the patients both physically as well as spiritually. Rev. Mayfield could often be found visiting and praying with patients and their families after his work shift was completed.
Rev. Mayfield was not shy about his faith and willing to talk with anyone, anywhere, anytime about the Lord and any spiritual need.

The Mayfield family wishes to thank our many friends and family in the western Maryland area for their prayers and words of support. Although Dad lived most of the last 10 years in Tulsa, his heart, thoughts, and prayers were always with the people in his church and his community in Maryland and West Virginia.
