Jean Louise Odell

SCARBOROUGH, Maine - Jean Louise (Brackett) Odell, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at the Maine Veterans Home.

Born Feb. 21, 1925, in Exeter, she was the daughter of Edwin Lamprey and Louise S. (Horton) Brackett. She was a 1942 graduate of Portsmouth High School and attended the Bryant and Stratton School of Boston.

She was a member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Saco, Maine; Mary Dillingham Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution; past vice president of the Maine Conference of the United Methodist Women; and member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also served in the Women's Army Corps from 1945-48 and again from 1950-51.

She was the wife of the late Rev. Perley C. Odell.

Survivors include five daughters, Karen J. Odell of Portland, Dorris L. Smyth of Scarborough, Annette E. Krueger and her husband David of Raymond, Susan C. Odell of Saco, Nancy C. Gilson and her husband Michael of Farmingdale; one son, George E. Odell and his wife Roberta of Dierks, Ark.; six grandchildren, Crystal L. Smyth, Alyssa Rose Krueger, Elizabeth D. Ouellette, Jacqueline L. and Melissa L. Gilson, and Tyler John Odell; and nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Patricia Fama of Canton, Mass.; Priscilla Page of Newport, N.H.; Janice Gibbs of Buzzards Bay, Mass.; and Mary Odell of Canton, Mass.; as well as several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother and her sisters.

Shawn M. Wilcox

PORTSMOUTH - Shawn M. Wilcox, 39, of 3205 Lafayette Road, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at his home.

Born Feb. 25, 1960, in Portsmouth, he was the son of Mary L. (LaRoche) Wilcox of Portsmouth, and the late Edward F. Wilcox.

He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion.

In addition to his mother, survivors include two brothers, Kim Wilcox and his wife Kimberly of Milton, N.H., and Ralph Wilcox and his wife Rae of Portsmouth; four nephews; one niece; and one great-nephew.

John E. Coleman Sr.

PORTSMOUTH - John. E. "Eddie" Coleman Sr., 80, of 275 Kearsarge Way, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born in Portsmouth on March 27, 1919, the son of the late J. Lincoln and Alma G. (Underhill) Coleman. He served in the Army during World War II, stationed in Germany and France.

He was employed as a police officer for the Portsmouth Police Department, retiring after 25 years of service. He was then employed as a custodian for the Portsmouth school department, retiring after 10 years. In January 1955, he was honored by the city of Portsmouth for saving the life of 10-year-old Patricia Morey who fell into the South Mill Pond on her way to school.

He attended the North Congregational Church in Portsmouth and was a member of the state retirement system.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Coleman and his wife, Kelly, of Portsmouth, and Thomas Coleman of Exeter; five grandchildren, Jason Coleman, Jeremy Coleman, Kali Coleman, Thomas Coleman Jr., and Briana Coleman; a sister, Ruth Mercier of Auburn, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, John E. Coleman Jr. in 1991, a brother, Ernest Coleman in 1994, and a sister, Meriam Hohenberger in 1997.

Cecile M. Stone

PORTSMOUTH - Cecile M. Stone, 74, of 65 Benson St., died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at the Edgewood Centre after a long period of illness.

Born Dec. 29, 1925, in Nashua, she was the daughter of Francois and Laurette (Vines) Corbin. She was a lifelong resident of Portsmouth.

She had been active in the American Legion Post No. 6 Auxiliary.

She was the wife of George E. Stone.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Frank Stone of California; two grandchildren, Aimee Holland and Sean Stone of California; two brothers, Leo Corbin of Portsmouth and Al Corbin of California; a sister, Rita Kamont of Nashua; an aunt, Mrs. Armand (Jeanne) Nourie of Nashua; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, William Hoyer.

Rita Racine

KITTERY - Rita Racine, 73, of 2 Sunset Drive, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at the Homestead Nursing Home.

Born Sept. 28, 1926, in Brunswick, Maine, she was the daughter of Eugene and Rose Phillipon St. Pierre. She attended schools in Brunswick.

She was a communicant of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Kittery.

She was the wife of Robert Racine of Kittery for 49 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Mark F. Racine and Michel E. Racine, both of Kittery; three daughters, Diane M. Ayyagari of North Andover, Mass., Jeannine R. Racine of Kittery, and Maureen M. Marchant of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Maurice St. Pierre of Manchester, N.H.; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by a son, Thomas A. Racine.

Marie A. Daneault

HAMPTON - Mrs. Marie A. (Ouellette) Daneault, 96, of 22 Tuck Road and formerly of Portsmouth and Edgewater, Fla., died Thursday, Dec. 22, 1999, at Seacoast Health Center in Hampton.

Born March 8, 1903, in D'Iralie, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Emilia (Belleveau) Ouellette.

She was a communicant at the Immaculate Conception Church in Portsmouth.

She was the wife of Joseph E. Daneault.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Edmund Daneault of Portsmouth and Edgewater; two daughters, Doris LaBerge of Portsmouth, and Rose Marshall of Barrington and Edgewater; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert N. Gillis Jr.

ROCHESTER - Robert N. Gillis Jr., 61, of 203 Washington St., died suddenly Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Frisbee Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 27, 1938, in Dover, he was the son of Robert N. and Ruby (Forbes) Gillis. of Dover. He was a graduate of Dover High School and was attended the Wentworth Institute of Pharmacy.

He served in th Army and formerly resided in Dover before moving to Rochester 23 years ago.

He was a longtime employee of Davidson Textron in Farmington, where he was a mold maker.

His hobby was astronomy and he was an avid Star Trek fan. He was a member of the Rochester Elks Lodge No. 1393.

He was the husband of Eleanor (Huff) Gillis for 23 years.

In addition to his wife and his parents, survivors include four daughters, Christine Gillis of Rochester; Lisa Farrell of Galt, Calif.; Robin Cross and Laura Roudebush, both of Stockton, Calif.; seven grandchildren; two stepchildren, Dana Andreason and Karen Fritz, both of Rochester; two brothers Paul Gillis of Dover, and William L. Gillis of Laconia; a sister, Ann E. Therrien of Newington, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ronald A. Griswold

NEWMARKET - Ronald A. Griswold, 57, of South Main Street, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at his home in Newmarket.

Born July 17, 1942 in Manchester, Conn., he was the son of Jennie (Polyott) Griswold of Newmarket, and the late George E. Griswold. He was a 1960 graduate of Newmarket High School, and lived in Lee and Barrington before moving back to Newmarket.

He worked in the Army in the military police in Korea and in the infantry during Vietnam.

He worked as a carpenter and was an avid stock-car enthusiast.

He was a former member and past commander of the Robert G. Durgin American Legion Post No. 67 in Newmarket, and a member of the Lee Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In addition to his mother, survivors include a sister, Mrs. Gail Wasiewski and her husband, Edmund, of Newmarket; two nephews, two great-nephews, a great-niece, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Albert G. Wheeler

PORTSMOUTH - Albert G. Wheeler, 69, of 214 Elwyn Ave., died Saturday, Dec. 24, 1999, at the Columbia Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born March 8, 1930, in Dover, he was the son of Walter S. and Hercilia C. (Vencis) Wheeler. He was a graduate of Dover High School and attended the University of New Hampshire. He was a former longtime resident of Dover before moving to Portsmouth in 1983.

He was a member of St. Mary's Church.

Survivors include a brother, Herbert Wheeler of Cincinnati; four sisters, Mary Wheeler of Glencliff, N.H., Gladys Simeroth of Concord, Alice Truvalley of Dearborn, Mich., and Theresa Pesarik of Portsmouth; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three bothers, Walter, Roy and John Wheeler.

Robert L. Souliere

FARMINGTON - Robert Louis Souliere, 44, of Ten Rod Road, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at home after a brief period of illness.

Born Aug. 6, 1955, in Stephenville Crossing, Newfoundland, he was the son of Gerald L. and Pauline A. (Young) Souliere of Bingham, Maine. He had resided in Farmington since 1983, having previously lived in Portsmouth.

His hobby was recycling scrap metal.

He was the husband of Elizabeth Anne (Jones) Souliere.

In addition to his wife and parents, survivors include a son, Robert Louis "Bert" Souliere Jr. of Farmington; a daughter, Molly Margaret Souliere of Farmington; three brothers, Philip Souliere of Portsmouth, Gerald L. Souliere Jr. of Bingham, and Roger Souliere of Portsmouth; three sisters, Gloria Perrier of Stephenville Crossing, Susan Gowan of Florida and Elaine Wegner of Nevada; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Lorraine.

STONE

PORTSMOUTH - Cecile M. Stone, 74, of 65 Benson St., died Dec. 22, 1999. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Adult Day Group, 140 Court St., Portsmouth, NH 03801.

Annette L. Jordan

Annette L. Jordan, 98, formerly of Granite Street, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at Exeter Healthcare, where she had resided for the past several years.

Born July 17, 1901, in Canada, she was the daughter of Aime and Cilfred (Letendre) Labelle. She moved to Newmarket at the age of 5.

For 23 years, she and her late husband owned and operated Jordan's Lunch on Main Street in Newmarket.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Hector Benoit No. 1409.

She was also a member of the Robert G. Durgin American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 67 in Newmarket, and was one of the original members of the Newmarket Senior Citizens.

She was the wife of the late John L. Jordan, who died in 1967.

Survivors include two sons, John C. Jordan of Vero Beach, Fla., and Peter C. Jordan of Pelham, N.H.; four daughters, Mrs. Thelma Sawyer of York Harbor, Mrs. Natalie True of Walnut Creek, Calif., Mrs. Jean Jennings of Newmarket, and Mrs. Jeffrey (Marsha) Newick of Yarmouth, Maine; 18 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Gerard W. Jennings, who died in 1983.

Louis F. Sampson

SEABROOK - Louis F. Sampson, 78, of Walton Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at Exeter Hospital.

Born Feb. 16, 1921, in Williamsport, Pa., he was one of six children of the late Albert and Catherine Rose (Kaelber) Sampson.

He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, serving 12 years in the Marine Corps as a tech sergeant. During World War II, he served in the First Marine Division in the South Pacific.

For more than 20 years, he worked as a truck driver at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

He was a member of the East Parish United Methodist Church of Salisbury, Mass.; a life member of the Squampscott Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans Post No. 40 of Exeter, Hampton's American Legion Post No. 35; former member and past commander of the Raymond E. Walton American Legion Post No. 70 of Seabrook; and associate life member of the First Marine Division Association.

He was also a member of the St. James Lodge No. 102 F & A.M. of Hampton; life member of Veterans of Free Masons of NH; charter member and past president of the East Gate Club; member of Tide Mill Chapter No. 67 Order of Eastern Star in Hampton; member and past president of Seabrook Happy Senior Citizens; and life member of the Seabrook Fireman's Association.

He was the husband of 48 years to the late Martha (Fowler) Sampson, who died in 1994; and the late Mary Helen (Morton) Sampson, who died this year.

Family members include four children, Frank L. Sampson and Georgiana Sampson, both of Seabrook, both of Seabrook, Candice Drew of Epping, and Catherine Latour of South Berwick; three stepchildren, Robert Littlefield of Seabrook, Russell Littlefield of Atkinson, N.H., and Maryann Mason of Amesbury, Mass.; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie Holliday of Williamsport, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
