Vern Gilding Jr.
81, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Monday, May 5, 2003. Mr. Gilding was born January 27, 1922, in Eaton County, Michigan the son of Vern Sr. and Vema (Farnham) Gilding. He served in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart for service during World War II. He returned from the war and worked at Oldsmobile from 1946 to his retirement in 1983. Vern also raised honey bees and enjoyed gardening. He married Betty Irene Wright on January 29, 1944 and she survives. He is also survived by son David (Sandy) Gilding of Charlotte, daughter Diana (Curt) Oglesby of Wacousta, son Rod (Gloria) Gilding of Bellevue, daughter Renee Carter of Nashville, 10 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, brothers Kenneth (Jeanie) Gilding, John Gilding, Don (Lela) Gilding all of Arizona, sisters Gerry Burrows of Detroit, Roberta Gilding of Hubbardston, and Katherine Crawford of Onondaga. He was preceded in death by sister Lanore Cole in 2002. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Pastor Roy Backus officiating. Interment will be in Gresham Cemetery in Chester Township. Visitation will be Tuesday, 3:00 - 5:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home.

Irma Gail (Lawhead) Swan
age 81 of Charlotte, died Monday, May 5, 2003. Mrs. Swan was born June 20, 1921 in Ingham Township, Michigan, the daughter of Guy H. and Etta (Hance) Walker. She was a 1940 graduate of Dimondale High School and Western Michigan University in 1966. She was a teacher for more than 20 years in and around the Vermontville area. Irma Gail loved horses and was an accomplished equestrian, a member of Midwest Dressage Association and the owner of Freedom Winds Farms of Charlotte. Surviving are sons Jack H. (Darla) Swan of Colorado, David J. Lawhead of Onsted, Dennis J. (Olivia) Lawhead of Eaton Rapids, daughter Dorothy J. Parsley of Florida, six grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and sister Betty Laverty of Potterville. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 9 at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Interment will be at Dimondale Cemetery in Dimondale. Visitation will be Thursday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Scott R. Cozart
48, of Charlotte, Michigan died Thursday, May 8, 2003. Mr. Cozart was born February 2, 1955, in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cozart. He had been a resident of the Birch Hill Home for the Handicapped for 20 years. He is survived by many special friends. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Pastor Randy Royston officiating, with interment in Center Eaton Cemetery.

Paul Raymond Sobleskey
44, formerly of Charlotte died Friday, May 9, 2003. Paul was born November 26, 1958, in Ionia, Michigan, the son of Richard and Ellen (Asher) Sobleskey. Paul graduated from Charlotte High School in 1977 and worked for several years at Callender & Dornboss, Inc. and then later as a driver for Midwest Carpet Brokers, Potterville and then recently was employed by ETran Bus Line. He was an avid deer hunter and loved watching football and NASCAR with his son, Ryan. He is survived by two sons, Ryan and Kyle, two daughters, Courtney and Blair, grandson: Hayden, mother, Ellen Sobleskey of Charlotte, father, Richard (Elaine) Sobleskey of Charlotte, three brothers, Rick (Carrie) of Grand Ledge, Allen (Brenda) of Dimondale, Kevin (Cheryl) of Charlotte, four sisters: Carolyn (Rick) Barrera of Grand Ledge, Marcia (Tim) Ralya of Grand Ledge, Laurie (Paul) Davis of Charlotte and Kris (Matt) Petrelles of Hagerstown, MD, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Lance, September 1, 1998. Private family services will be held. Visitation will be 3-5 Monday at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to a fund for the family, in care of Ellen Sobleskey.

Cecil James Hayes
84 of Charlotte, died Monday, May 12, 2003 in Lansing. Mr. Hayes was born September 15, 1918 in East Jordan, Michigan, the son of Frederick and Mary Ethel (Higby) Hayes. He worked in the lumber camps of the Upper Peninsula, at Wilcox-Gay, Earl Scott Roofing, Champion Prestige Modular Homes, and Charlotte Public Schools. He served with the Michigan State Troops during WWII. He loved hunting, fishing, being outdoors and travel with family. He was a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church and Center Eaton Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Jerine (Bradley) Hayes who he married September 21, 1941, sons James (Ruth) Hayes of Ypsilanti, Brian (Charlene) Hayes and Daniel (Alice) Hayes all of Charlotte, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, Sister-in-law Gertrude Hayes of Rapid River, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers Elmer and Lawrence, sister Pauline and an infant sister. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Kendall A. Lewis officiating. Interment will be at Gresham Cemetery in Charlotte. The family will receive friends 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make a contribution to a memorial dialysis fund for Hayes Green Beach Hospital in Charlotte. Special thanks to the E.R. staff at Sparrow Hospital, the ambulance EMT's and the nurses at Sparrow and St. Lawrence Dialysis, Jodi Poyer, visiting nurse and Peggy Needham, home health aide, for all their care and compassion.

Mable Eva Clough
88, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Thursday, May 15, 2003. Mrs. Clough was born January 30, 1915 in Charlotte, the daughter of Orland and Lulu (Andrews) Winslow. She was a member of First Congregational Church. She was also a member of I Go U Go Club, 500 Club. She is survived by her Daughter, Mrs. Suzanne (Bob) Keehne of Shelby, Michigan, granddaughters Jackie (Doug) Miron, Kathy (Jason) Lewis, great granddaughter Abigale Sue Lewis, Sister-Doris Holly of Charlotte, nieces and nephews Jeannie Collins, Kim Collins, Kevin (Melinda) Collins, Kathy (Bill) Andrews, Angie (Matt) Birk, and Molly Andrews. She was preceded in death by her husband Dale Clough in 1960 and nephew Rick Collins in 2000. Funeral services will be at Pray Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2003, with Rev. Patricia Stirling officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Eaton Rapids, Mich. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Michigan Library for the Blind.

Mary Maxine Bair
84, of Potterville, Michigan, died May 16, 2003. Mrs. Bair was born December 19, 1918, in Crawfordsville, Indiana, the daughter of Charles and Nora Mae (Thomas) Johnson. Mary was a housekeeper for the Holiday Inn, Lafayette, Indiana and a cook for the Tippecanoe School District. She was a member of the Homemakers Club in Wea, Indiana. She is survived by daughter Judy (Leo) Zottneck of Dimondale, Michigan, 3 grandchildren Robin (Steve) Lett, Rod (Rebecca) Zottneck, Rana Morey (Mike Milbourne), 4 great grandchildren Jessica and Jordan Lett, Chelsea and Shelby Morey. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1978. Funeral service will be 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Rev. Rebecca Morrison officiating. Visitation will be 3:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday. Interment will be Tuesday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Crawfordsville, Indiana. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.

Calvin Peter Csatlos
75, of Arvada, Colorado, died January 2, 2003 after 8 weeks of Hospice Care. Calvin was a retired Commercial Appraiser and Air Force Veteran of WW II. He is survived by his wife Dale Anne Csatlos, daughter Laurie Painter, son Kevin Csatlos, step-son Jeff Rodewald and step-daughter Margo Price. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2003 at the Charlotte First Congregational Church with Rev. Patricia Stirling officiating. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

William D. Sheldon
64 of Charlotte, died unexpectedly at his home May 18, 2003. Mr. Sheldon was born April 27, 1939 in Grandville, Michigan. He was a service repairman for Montgomery Ward. He is survived by his wife Evelyn (Sue) Sheldon, son William Sheldon, daughters Stacey and Thierry Beaud and Amy Sheldon, Pam, and children Dennis and LeAnn Gay, Larry Gay, Randy Gay, Charles (Ed) and Marianne Gay, Penny Gribi, close nephew & niece Roy and Carol Wisner, brother Charles Sheldon, and sisters Shirley and Lynn Fowler, Betty and Victor Ford, eleven grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. Funeral services are 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Mark Slocum officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 21 at 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Thelma Cogswell
89 of Charlotte, Michigan, died May 19, 2003 at Marshall Manor in Marshall. Mrs. Cogswell was born December 28, 1913 in Eaton County, Michigan, the daughter of Fred and Nellie (Midland) Diamond. She was a clerk for 25 years with the G.C. Murphy Company in Charlotte. She is survived by her son Donald (Donna) Cogswell of Charlotte, five Grandchildren and several Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Leman and sons Gary and Richard, brothers Murray, Earl and Harley Diamond and sisters Bethel Robinson and Flossie Diamond. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 22 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. If desired memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Hospital and Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church.

William Edmund Bates
82, of Central Lake, Michigan, died May 22, 2003. Mr. Bates was born May 30, 1920 the son of Frank V. and Esther V. (Edmunds) Bates. He retired from the U.S. Navy and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He is survived by daughter Patricia (Paul) Roush of Charlotte, grandsons Wade E. Roush of San Francisco, California and James J. Roush of Fairbanks, Alaska. Memorial service will be held at Torch Lake at a later date. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Central Lake Township Library or the WWII Memorial Fund.

Tamara Ellen King
48, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Thursday, May 22, 2003. She was a loving mother and best friend to her daughters, and special to all those she held dear. With her passing a light has extinguished that can not be replaced. We will look for her in the blooming flowers and on the warm summer days. She was born May 17, 1955 in Pikeville, Kentucky the daughter of Annie (Pishner) and Kendall Gibson. She is survived by daughters, Vanessa King of Olivet, Michigan, Valerie King of Charlotte, brothers, Robert David (Ethel) Whitaker and Joseph Vincent (Melissa) Whitaker all of Charlotte, step-father Kendall Gibson of Kentucky and former husband Calvin King. Funeral service will be at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 27, 2003 with Rev. Father Jeffrey Robideau. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 7:00 - 9:00 PM Monday, May 26, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Fibromyalgia Syndrome Association.

Ralph D. Shaver
77, of Charlotte, died Sunday, May 25, 2003, in Lansing, Michigan. Mr. Shaver was born September 1, 1925, the son of Clinton and Jessie (VanOrman) Shaver. He served in the US Army during World War II, and retired from Fisher Body, Lansing, after 39 1/2 years of service. He married Lois Masters, June 26, 1949 in Olivet, Michigan. Ralph was a member of Maple City VFW Post #2406, American Legion Post #42, and had been Vice President of the Michigan Fiddler's Association. He was also a member and Past President of the Original Michigan Fiddler's Association, former Fire Chief of the Potterville Fire Department, and Past President of the Potterville School Board. He coached little league baseball and basketball for many years. He is survived by his wife, Lois, two sons, Gary (Loraine) Shaver and Terry (Debbie) Shaver all of Charlotte, five grandchildren, Jason, Benjamin, Matthew, April and Andy, all of Charlotte, two brothers, Neal (Alta) Shaver of Flint and Duane Shaver of Arkansas. He was preceded in death by infant daughter, Patricia Kay, brother, Melvin and Sister, Geraldine. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 28th at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Peters officiating. Interment will be in West Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 Tuesday, May 27th. If desired memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Heart Association or Hayes Green Beach Hospital. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Diane K. Priesman
50, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003. Mrs. Priesman was born December 9, 1952, in Hastings, Michigan, the daughter of Lawrence and Barbara (Joppie) Musser. She worked in the Sales Department of Spartan Motors until May 2001. She enjoyed gardening and had a wonderful sense of humor. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Lynn Priesman, daughters Rachel (George) Shook of Olivet, Autumn (Scott) Thomas of Montague, 3 grandchildren, Joshua, Cameron, and Brennon, her parents Lawrence and Barbara Musser of Vermontville, brothers David Musser of Vermontville, Garry Musser of Texas, sister Brenda (Kelly) Lynch of Texas and special friends John and Ann Mathews. She was preceded in death by brother Larry Neil Musser. Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 30 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Marten Saunders officiating. Visitation will be Thursday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice.
