Nina Zakshesky
89, of Vermontville, Michigan, passed away November 18, 2003. Mrs. Zakshesky was born May 4, 1914, in Herron, Michigan, the daughter of Andrew Harrison and Mable (Rupinski) Barker. Nina was a homemaker and a farmer who always had a handshake, a smile and a kiss. She is survived by son Thomas (Barbara) Zakshesky of Charlotte, daughters Angie Price of Grand Ledge, Mary Jane Hummel of Charlotte, Virginia (Joe) Harvey of Vermontville, 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and brother John Harrison of Alpena. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Henry Zakshesky in 1988, son Joseph in 1978, infant Francis Lucy in 1936. Funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Charles Jensen officiating. Interment will be in Sunfield Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Saturday. Casket Bearers will be LeRoy, DeWitt and Nicholas Hummel, Phil Ross, Shawn Cox, Rick Moore and Honorary Casket Bearer Joshua Price.

Cecil C. Powers
age 80, of Charlotte, died at his home on Saturday, November 22, 2003. Mr. Powers was born July 31, 1923 in Bellevue, Michigan, the son of Zina Clare and Irene Delven (Harrison) Powers. Cecil served with the US Army, Company E, 26th Infantry, 1st Division, Company E, during WWII. He fought in both the Battle of the Bulge and Huertgen Forest earning two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He worked in residential construction and he was a farmer. He is a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Purple Heart Club, Society of the 1st Infantry Division and the Lansing S.D.A. Church. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ursie (Kullik) Powers, son Gene (Trudy) Powers of Sebastopol, California, daughter Martha Sue (Mike) Gross of Vermontville, Michigan, five grandchildren, Jenny Powers of Colorado, Rebecca Gross of Michigan, Cecily Powers of New Zealand, Jonathon Gross of Michigan and Zachary Powers of California, brothers Knox (Nelda) Powers of Michigan and Mark (Delores) Powers of Nevada, sisters Anita (Bill) Weise of Alabama, Myriel (Ken) Akershoek of Michigan, and Clarys (Bill) Howell of California. He was preceded in death by sisters Delven Irene and Jeane Harriet. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Bill Weise officiating. Interment will be in Hillside (Kalamo) Cemetery in Kalamo Township. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice or Lansing S.D.A. Church.

Helen E. Sampson
90, of Winona Lake, Indiana, died Friday, November 28, 2003. Mrs. Sampson was born August 12, 1913, in Liberal, Kansas the daughter of Earland Eva Galusha. She is survived by daughters Lucene (Richard) Harstine of Claypool, Indiana and Ellen (George) Harton of Glenn Dale, Maryland, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Leon Sampson in 2000. Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

Dorothy Evelyn 'Dottie' Carpenter
71 of Charlotte, died Saturday, November 29, 2003 in Lansing, Michigan. Mrs. Carpenter was born February 16, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Morris and Evelyn (Amaro) Gray, Sr. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, a former school bus driver, and had been a volunteer for the Eaton Community Hospice, Helping Hands, the Siren Eaton Shelter and she and her husband were active in the Meals on Wheels program. They especially loved visiting lighthouses throughout Michigan. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bruce R. Carpenter, daughters Catherine (John) Kallioinen of Eaton Rapids, Cris Carpenter of Battle Creek, son Michael (Diane) Carpenter of Asheville, North Carolina, 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, brothers Donald Gray of West Greenwich, Rhode Island, Joseph Gray of Minden, Louisiana and sister Gertrude Gulyas of Juneau, Alaska. She was preceded in death by her brother Morris Gray, Jr. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Yeagley officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamlin Township, Eaton Rapids. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice.

Elijah Sampsel
infant son of Chad and Alicia Sampsel of Charlotte passed away November 30, 2003 shortly after his birth. Elijah is survived by his parents, Chad and Alicia (Ferguson) Sampsel, his half brothers, Brandon and Raymond Sampsel, Grandparents, Max and Nancy Sampsel of Charlotte, Elmer Ferguson of Niles, and Pat Ferguson of Charlotte, Great-Grandparents Willard and Etta Gleason of Atlanta, MI and four uncles and aunts. Graveside Services will be 2PM Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte with R. Raymond Rossell officiating.

Edith Diane Smith
48, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Monday, December 1, 2003. Mrs, Smith was born February 27, 1955, in Germany, the daughter of John Didsbury and Marjorie Grant. She loved her Indian heritage, crafts, and animals. She collected key chains. She is survived by her husband Daniel Smith, sons Israel (Angie) Hansen of Lansing, Joshua Hansen and Daniel Smith Jr., and daughter Dawn Smith, father John (Frances) Didsbury of Lansing, mother Marjorie Fronckel of Lansing and good friend Eldonna Horvat of Lansing. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Art Foster officiating. Interment will be in Gresham Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home.

Cynthia Yates
49 of Charlotte, died December 2, 2003, ending a two decade struggle with depression. Born June 12, 1954 in Charlotte, Cindy received a Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University in 1981. She lived most of her life in Charlotte. Cindy loved fine literature and was a voracious reader. She collected family antiques and photographs and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. She dearly loved her nieces and nephews and her cat, Izzy. Cindy is survived by her parents, Rod and Joyce Yates of Charlotte; sisters Susan of Williamstown, Massachusetts, Judith (Paul Williams) and Kate (Tom Cizek) both of Traverse City; nieces and nephews Chris, Dave, Andy, Colin, Libbie, Cam, Laura and Donny. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and a nephew, Jesse. A memorial service at the First Congregational Church in Charlotte is planned for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2003. Friends are welcome to meet the family at the church an hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Cindy's name, to Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 356, Charlotte, MI 48813; Hayes Green Beach Hospital, 321 E. Harris, Charlotte, MI 48813; or the Charlotte Public Library, 226 S. Bostwick, Charlotte, MI 48813.

Steven Earl Preadmore
27 of Potterville, died Friday, December 5, 2003 as a result of an automobile accident. Steven was born February 19, 1976 in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Larry and Kathy Preadmore. He was a carpenter with Creative Construction and enjoyed playing pool and golf. Steven always showed enormous pride for his daughters Ashley and Vanessa. Steve was always available when someone needed a friend or a hand. He always enjoyed being with his family, friends, and walking his dog. He will always remain in our hearts forever. He is survived by daughters Ashley and Vanessa Preadmore, his parents, brother David (Shan) Preadmore of Lansing, sister Bethann (John) Lundy of Charlotte, nieces Haley and Elizabeth, nephews Wesley and Nathan, grandmother Betty Greenlee, and special friends, Amanda Clark and Danette Axel and his beloved pet, Brooklyn. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Earl Greenlee. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Mel and Deb Crowley officiating. Interment will be in Benton Township Cemetery in Potterville. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday and 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to a trust fund for his daughters Ashley and Vanessa.

Jane Bosworth
89 of Charlotte, died Wednesday, December 10, 2003. Mrs. Bosworth was born August 9, 1914 in Wilkensburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Hoover) Roberts. She is survived by step-daughter, Sonie Crockett of St. Paul, Minnesota, daughters, Mary (Scott) Palmer of Charlotte, Susan (Edward) Wollferum of Royal Oak, son Alan (Laurie) Bosworth of Charlotte, grandchildren, Kirk (Nicole) Palmer, Kraig (Chris) Palmer, Kasey Palmer, Jake Bosworth, Mary-Kate Bosworth, Alex Bosworth, Scot (Salley) Crockett, great grandchild, Meredyth Crockett, and brother Paul (Geraldine) Roberts of Washington, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband, Auletus Bosworth, March 11, 1993 and stepson-in-law David Crockett. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 13 at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital.

Ilah A. Faulkner
age 80 of Charlotte, died Friday, December 12, 2003 after a short illness. Miss Faulkner was born August 22, 1923 on the family farm in Eaton County, the daughter of Ira and Ruby (Love) Faulkner. She worked as a secretary for Century Mutual and Farm Bureau Insurance, retiring in 1985 and was a member of the Free Methodist Church of Charlotte. She is survived by her twin sister, Alta Poskey of Potterville, sister Ivadean Dickinson of Charlotte, brothers, Hugh (Adalyn) Faulkner of Livonia, Lynn Faulkner of Lansing, Carrol 'Pete' (Dorothy) Faulkner of Battle Creek, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 15, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Darold Hill officiating. Interment will be in West Carmel Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Free Methodist Church or Eaton Community Hospice.

Frederick Edward Jones
94 of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, died Saturday, December 13, 2003 in Marshall, Michigan. Mr. Jones was born December 27, 1908 in Barrow In Furness, England, the son of Albert and Mary Jane (Parkinson) Jones. He was the Assistant Vice President of the National Bank of Detroit until his retirement in 1974. Mr. Jones was a Past Master of Trinity Blue Lodge #502 in Detroit and a former member of Metropolitan Methodist Church in Detroit. He is survived by his son, David Jones of Bloomfield Township, daughter, Lynda (Richard) Otto of Olivet, grandchildren, Heath, Timothy and Laura Otto, and brother, Albert (Nell) Jones of Hendersonville, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys Adele (Henderson) Jones February 18, 1990. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at Hamilton Funeral Home, 820 E. Maple, Birmingham, Michigan, with Rev. Roy Backus of Olivet Congregational Church, officiating. Interment will be in White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan. Visitations will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. and 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton Funeral Home in Birmingham until the service at 2:00 p.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to The Masonic Home in Alma, Michigan.

Mary Lorraine Kikendall
68, of Charlotte, Michigan, died December 15, 2003. Mrs. Kikendall was born January 22, 1935 in PortHuron Township, Michigan, the daughter of Alvin and Dorothy (Alcorn) Moore. Mary was a former Roller Derby Queen for the Port Huron Rockets and a former Powder Puff Demolition Derby Contestant. Mary is survived by her husband Dale Kikendall of Charlotte, daughters Carolyn (Larry) Siefert of Springport, Julia Schamehorn (Doug Foreman) of Olivet, step-daughters Kelly (Gary) Fowler of Springport, Anita (Brady) Robertson of Jackson, 13 grandchildren Christopher, Juan, Jessica, James, Charles, Christina, David, Jacob, Joey, Austin, Nikki, Cheyanne, and Hunter, brother Alvin (Mareleen) Moore and sister Carolyn Basnaw all from Port Huron and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Barry Frasier in 1977. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Donald Green officiating. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at Lakeport Cemetery in Port Huron, Michigan.

Lawrence McKishnie
88, formerly of Canfield Road, Eaton Rapids, Michigan, died Tuesday, December 16, 2003. Mr. McKishnie was born June 15, 1915, in Charlotte, Michigan, the son of Ed and Maude (Stidwell) McKishnie. Mr. McKishnie loved life on his dairy farm. Lawrence is survived by 4 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Florence in 1995, son Melvin in 1953 and step-daughter Bonnie Van Valkenburg. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Mark Woodbury officiating. Interment will be in Center Eaton Cemetery in Charlotte.

Patricia Marie Beisel
77 of Saginaw, died December 17, 2003. Patricia was born September 21, 1926 in Pinconning, Michigan, the daughter of Howard and Gertrude (Coggins) Cross. She was a purchasing agent for Saginaw Machine and Tool Company and a member of St. Stephens Catholic Church in Saginaw. She is survived by daughter Kathy (Glenn) Gunser of East Northport, N.Y., son Mark (Maggie) Beisel of Stowe, VT., daughter Patricia (Robert) Muladore of Charlotte, MI., son Christopher Beisel of Santiago Zamora, Guatemala, son Michael (Patrica) Beisel of W. Linn, OR., and son Thaddeus (Soulayvanh) Beisel of Portland, OR., eight grandchildren, and sister Kathleen Obermiller of Bay City. She was preceded in death by her husband John Beisel in 1993, and son John Gregory Beisel. A Memorial funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2004 at St. Stephens Catholic Church, 2711 Mackinaw St., Saginaw, Michigan 48602-3146, with Rev. Fr. Pat O'Connor officiating. Interment will be in St. Andrews Cemetery in Saginaw. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice 2675 S. Cochran, Charlotte, MI 48813.
