18, of Olivet, Michigan, died December 17, 2003 as a result of an automobile accident. Andrew was born October 30, 1985, in Parkersburg, WV. He was a senior at Olivet High School and the Battle Creek Tech Center where he was studying to become an Automotive Service Technician. He enjoyed fishing and camping. Andrew is survived by his parents Gerald 'Jerry' and Cynthia 'Cindy' (Seagraves) Monroe, sister Jessica Monroe, of Olivet, grandparents Ray and Wanda Brink of Mt. Pleasant, MI., James and Nairda Monroe of Webberville, MI., Peggy Duncan of DeWitt, MI., several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2003 at Olivet Congregational Church, Olivet, MI., with Pastor Roy Backus officiating. Interment will be in Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet, Michigan. Visitation will be Saturday 7 - 9 p.m. and Sunday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Aidan's Arms or the Stephen Ministry at the Olivet Congregational Church.

David Raymond Wells
42 of Clio, Michigan died unexpectedly Thursday, December 18, 2003 in Saginaw, Michigan. Mr. Wells was born June 27, 1961 in Seattle, Washington, the son of Douglas and Juanita (Rodriguez) Wells. David was a musician who loved his music, and loved performing it. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Clio. He is survived by his daughter, Shae of Flint and her Mom, Shirley Wells, mother Juanita of Pomona Park, Florida, sisters Diana and Denise Wells of Florida, Dawn Dooling and her husband Pat of New Jersey, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and his many friends at the Cloverleaf in Clio, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his father in May 2003 and his uncle, Rod Rodriguez in September 2003. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte, with Rev. Fr. Denis R. Spitzley officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Kalamo Township. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. A parish Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Heart Association.

Dawn I. Maynard
73, of Potterville, Michigan, died, Friday, December 19, 2003, in Charlotte, Michigan. Mrs. Maynard was born November 1, 1930 in Grand Rapids, MI, the daughter of Charles and Donna (Simpson) Brooks. She married Frank Maynard in October of 1948. Mrs. Maynard was a member of the Friends of the Potterville Library and served on the Potterville Board of Review of for many years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading. She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Tony) Cervantes of Charlotte, Jill Gidner (William Paul) of Bellevue and son, Rick Maynard of Coldwater, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and her sister, Dixie (Earl) Croel of Belding. She was preceded in death by husband Frank in 2000 and her son, John, in 1996. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Pastor Dick Thorp officiating. Interment will follow at Ft Custer National Cemetery, Battle Creek. Visitation will be 7-9 Sunday and Monday at Pray Funeral Home. If desired memorial contributions may be made to Michigan Heart Association.

Linda E. 'Lindy' (Halliwill) Pullen
50 of Olivet, died Friday, December 19, 2003 at her residence. Mrs. Pullen was born December 23, 1952 in Vermontville, Michigan, the daughter of Lowell and Marlys (Brown) Halliwill. She had worked at McDonald's in Charlotte and Marshall for many years, and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post #280. She was an excellent bowler and loved her dogs, Champ and Smoke and Pete her parrot. She is survived by her husband, William, son Arty of Olivet, step-son Billy Pullen of Grand Ledge, step-daughters Linda (Tim) Kirchen of Olivet, Lori Ann Pullen of Florida, sister Mary (Loren) Lehman of Nashville, brothers Bob (Patsy) Halliwill, Ed (Donna) Halliwill, Leroy (Karen) Halliwill, David (Stephanie) Halliwill, all of Charlotte, Jim (Maggie) Halliwill, Raymond Halliwill, both of Nashville, and Ernie (Caroline) of Curtis. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Ken Halliwill in 2001. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Chuck Jenson officiating. Interment will be in Bosworth Cemetery in Walton Township, Olivet. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice or the American Legion Post #280.

Eilene Starr
72, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Saturday, December 20, 2003. Mrs. Starr was born May 4, 1931, in Grand Ledge, Michigan, the daughter of Roy and Helen (Robinson) Tanner. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, active in the Altar society and a 4-H leader for many years. She enjoyed painting, knitting, ceramics and crafts. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jerry; children, Denis (Karen) of Olivet, Kathy (Jim) Pion of Olivet, Tim (Sherry) of Charlotte, Mark (Cheryl) of Charlotte, Karen (Tony) Southward of Charlotte, Daniel (JoAnn) of Adrian, Chris (Shelly) of Charlotte, Mary (Doug) Campbell of Olivet, James (Lisa) of Eaton Rapids; 28 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; her sister Norma (Fran) Schmidt of Florida and brother Larry (Faith) Tanner of Sutton Bay. She was preceded in death by her sister Audrey Kendall and brother, Kendall Tanner. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 24, 2003, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Denis Spitzley officiating. Interment will follow in West Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 Monday and 2-4 Tuesday at Pray Funeral Home. Mrs. Starr will then be taken to St. Mary Catholic Church for visitation (7-9) and a parish rosary will be recited at 8PM Tuesday. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Heart Association and/or Eaton Community Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Alfred Wayne Kill
70, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Monday, December 22, 2003. Mr. Kill was born November 26, 1933, in Missaukee County, Michigan, the son of Henry and Grace (Dinguss) Kill. He worked for Johnson Iron for 23 years. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Shirley (Burger) Kill, daughters Sharon (Ed) Lettermore and Penny (Roy) Therrien both of Charlotte, son John (Gari) Kill of Mulliken, son Jeff Kill of Dimondale, son Martin (Connie) Kill of Olivet, daughter Amy (Pat) Gardner of Charlotte, son Steve (Lisa) Kill of Nashville, daughter Lisa Meyers of Charlotte, 32 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, sisters Timmer Chartrand of Portland and Vi (Bud) Hiar of Grand Ledge. He was preceded in death by sisters Beatrice Evans and Marie Hiar. Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Vickie Hill officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until time of the service on Friday morning. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Amos Riley Robins
79, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Tuesday, December 23, 2003. Mr. Robins was born February 9, 1924 in Eaton County, Michigan, the son of James and Alfredetta (Smith) Robins. He served in the U.S. Army. He worked at Johnson Iron, Johnson Lumber and Gale Briggs Inc., retiring in 2002. He was an excellent welder and never was afraid of work. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Bernadine (McKnight), sons Ronald (Christine) Robins of Middleville, Dennis (Judy) Robins of Grand Ledge, Barry Robins of Charlotte and David Robins of California, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, brother Royal (Ginnie) Robins of West Windsor, sisters Edna McDermid, Esther Wyble both of Charlotte, and sister Marvel Wyble of Nashville. He was preceded in death by son Lanny Robins 1990, grandson Bryan Hunault in 1991, brother James Robins in 2002 and sister Mabel Boehmer in 1976. Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2003 at West Carmel Cemetery in Charlotte with R. Raymond Rossell officiating. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Charlotte Area Public Library.

Paula Oomen
61, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Friday, December 26, 2003. Mrs. Oomen was born May 24, 1942, in Jurkovac, Yugoslavia, the daughter of Heinrich and Maria (Sumunia) Keller. Paula was a leader of the Millerburg 4H Club in Eaton County for 10 years. She is survived by her husband of 40 years Nicolaas Oomen, daughters Marie A. Oomen and Wendy J. Oomen both of Lansing, Alice P. Oomen of Charlotte, sisters Anna Hilz of East Lansing and Ava Schweitz of Lyons, New York. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment will be in West Carmel Cemetery, Charlotte. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2003. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital or the charity of your choice.

Gale L. Throne
83, of Lansing, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 26, 2003. Mr. Throne was born June 13, 1920, in Pioneer, Ohio, the son of Guy and Lulu (Masters) Throne. Gale was a long time member of the South Baptist Church in Lansing, an active volunteer at Ingham Regional Medical Center, a member of the Breton Woods Garden Club, and served during WWII in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946. Prior to retirement, he was self-employed as a Designer/Salesman of home remodeling. He leaves behind his wife Virginia, daughter Rebecca Throne of Lake Placid, Florida, son Darrell (Nancy) Martin of Hinton, West Virginia, daughter Karen (Rodney) Randall of Charlotte, Michigan, and daughter Susan (Steven) Griggs of Centennial, Colorado, 10 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and brother Rex (Erma) Throne of Pittsburgh, PA. He was preceded in death by sister Lorine Benton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at South Baptist Church, 5250 Cornerstone Drive in Lansing with Pastor Don Denyes officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Eaton Community Hospice House or Ingham Regional Medical Center Hospice.

Shirley A. Brumm
80, of Vermontville, Michigan, died Sunday, December 28, 2003. Shirley was born October 23, 1923, in Eaton County, Michigan the daughter of H. Dorr and Gertrude (Briggs) Andrews. She was the Deputy Eaton County Drain Commissioner from 1977 to 1984 and the Assistant to the Eaton County Drain Commissioner from 1985 to 2002. She was a member and Past Matron of the Vermontville O.E.S. Chapter 342. She is survived by son Roger Brumm and friend Norma, of Nashville, MI., son Chris (Penny) Brumm of Charlotte, MI., 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, sister Agnes Lake of Vermontville, brothers Edward Andrews of Charlotte and Ion Andrews of Vermontville. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Marc Livingston officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, in Nashville, MI. Visitation will be 7 - 9 p.m. Monday and 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Tuesday at Pray Funeral Home.

Thomas Alva Emery
85 of Charlotte, died Sunday, December 28, 2003 in Lansing. Mr. Emery was born February 11, 1918 in Albion, Michigan, the son of Clyde L. and Clarabelle (Shaffer) Emery. He was named after Thomas Alva Edison and there was hardly anything he couldn't make or build. He was a tool and die maker and he was an avid reader. He served his country as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps in WWII. He is survived by his children, Tom (Barbara) Emery of Charlotte, Kathi (Tom) Dominguez of DeWitt, James D. (Nancy) Emery of Land O Lakes, Florida, Eugene (Linda) Emery of Vermontville and Carmen Emery of Holt, 25 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine in 2002, his parents and brothers Richard and Donald. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Chuck Jenson officiating. Interment will be West Carmel Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be from noon until time of service on Wednesday. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Community Music School, Music Therapy Outreach Program, 841 Timberlake Street, Suite B, East Lansing, Michigan 48823. Make checks payable to Michigan State University with a note 'Community Music School'. The is program provides classroom activities and a summer camp program to children with disabilities.

Else A. Sleater
beloved wife of Richard Murray Sleater, dearest mother of Raymond, Jacqueline (Sharp), and Kimberly (Gonzalez), loving grandmother of Taylor, Connor, Ryan, and Benjamin, entered into eternal life Tuesday, December 30, 2003. She is also survived by her sister Christa Rieger and nephews Max and Daniel, and niece Claudia. Else was born May Day 1931 and grew up in the Bavarian Alps in Germany. She moved to the United States in 1953 to begin a family. She kept family traditions alive for her children and grandchildren and brought love, joy and laughter to her family and friends. She loved gardening, cooking, baking, reading, and especially loved her family and German heritage. She had many friends through Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, and her volunteer work, particularly with the American Red Cross and her work in customer service at Michigan National Bank in Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Murray Sleater in 1995, and brother Franz Rieger. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2004, at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army.

Eva May Coopman
90, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Tuesday, December 30, 2003. Mrs. Coopman was born February 11, 1913 in South Bend, Indiana, the daughter of William Franklin and Flora (Williams) Bolinger. Eva had worked in the Dietary Department for Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital in Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her husband Marcel in 1967. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2004 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan. Interment will be in Center Eaton Cemetery in Charlotte.

Hazel Christine (Eriksen) Nelson
born January 3, 1908 in Greenville, Michigan to parents Erik and Ella (Hansen) Eriksen. She attended Greenville High School and Ferris Institute. She married Marvin J. Nelson on June 25, 1929 and celebrated 71 years of marriage before his death on June 2, 2001. They made their home in Stanton, Michigan, where Marvin was County Abstractor until 1947 when they moved to Charlotte, Michigan. Their last years together were at Independence Village in Grand Ledge, Michigan. Mrs. Nelson died Tuesday, January 01, 2002 at the age of 93.
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson were charter members of the Peace Lutheran Church in Charlotte and she enjoyed the Isabelle Circle. She was well known for her beautiful handiwork. She was a Life member of the Eastern Star and belonged to the Pythian Sisters organization and Charlotte Women's Club. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, and brother Lester in 1964. She is survived by daughter Jeanette (Fred) Kogge of Hastings, Michigan; son Roger (Jane) Nelson of Duck Lake, Michigan; grandchildren Steven (Sumire) Kogge, Scott (Rose) Kogge, Sandra (Gary) Ragan, Stuart (Kathie) Kogge, Judy (Matthew) Wineinger, Robin Nelson, Michael (Kathleen) Nelson; step grandchildren Sarah and Sam Kellogg, Andrea and Derek King and 8 great grandchildren, sister Erma Sheaha of Santa Barbara, California, sister-in-laws Evelyn Strobridge of Greenville and Frances Eriksen of Grand Rapids. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2002 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Noel R. Hall-Niemann officiating. Interment will be in South Sidney Cemetery in Montcalm County. Visitation will be 3 - 5 and 7 - 8 p.m. Thursday at the Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Peace Lutheran Church or Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital.
