82, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Monday, October 8, 2001. Mrs. Wonser was born March 3, 1919, in Eaton County, Michigan, the daughter of Earl and Myrta (King) Cole. She was a line worker for Aluminum Extrusions/Hoover for 25 years before she retired in 1981. She was a member and treasurer of the Capital Area Knitting Club and the Charlotte Senior Center. She is survived by daughter Janice Wonser of Charlotte, brother Maurice Cole of Charlotte, granddaughters Diana (David) Diamond and Anne Collins and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Wonser in 1993 and brother Robert Cole. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at Meadowbrook Cemetery, Mulliken, Michigan with Rev. George Fleming officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Sparrow Foundation Hospice.

Phyllis Bridges
72, of Charlotte, Michigan, a loving mother and grandmother, died Wednesday, October 10, 2001. Mrs. Bridges was born June 14, 1929, in Mulliken, the daughter of Phillip and Vera (Harrod) Hosey. She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church and worked as a Unit Clerk at Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital. She is survived by daughters Vickie (Richard) Czech of Ionia, Shelia (Richard) Stank of Lake Odessa, Dianna (Keith) Cooke of Atoka, Tennessee, 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, brothers Harrod (Phyllis) Hosey & Eldon (Joann) Hosey of Grand Ledge, Archie (Florence) Hosey & Hal Hosey of Charlotte, and Stan (Darlene) Hosey of Vermontville. She was preceded in death by her husband Scott Bridges and sons Bruce and Bill McDiarmid all in 1978, brother Pat Hosey and her dachshund Peanut. The family will receive visitors at the Pray Funeral Home Friday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 13 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Pastor Noel Hall-Niemann officiating. Interment will be in Sunfield Cemetery in Sunfield, Michigan.

Fay "Bud" Lewis Root
88 of Charlotte, died October 10, 2001. Mr. Root was born February 14, 1913 in Flint, Michigan, the son of William E. and Anna Marie (Sorenson) Root. He is survived by a nephew, John W. (Ann) Brandon of Charlotte, nieces Carol Ann Sumerix of Eaton Rapids, MI, Sharon Weaver of Olivet, MI, Sally Porter of Colorado, Bonnie Vincent of Manistique, MI., Brenda (Bill) Apt of Bellingham, WA. And Joann Tinsley of Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by sisters Margaret Fisher and Nona Brandon and brother Lyle Root. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2001 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grand Rapids. Visitation will be 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2001.

Marle Spencer Clark
76, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Friday, October 19, 2001. Mr. Clark was born August 13, 1925, in Lansing, Michigan. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Grace (Zimmerman); daughters Connie (James) Parker and Donna (Dennis) Brendahl; 5 grandchildren Pamela Kline, Earl Parker, Derrek, Darren and Denise Brendahl; and 4 great grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents Kenard and Ruby (Spencer) Clark and sister Janice Myers. He served in the Navy during WWII on the Aircraft Carrier USS Belleau Wood and retired from the Lansing Fire Department in 1980. He was an avid Winston Cup and Indianapolis racing fan. Family and friends are invited to a Family Affirmation ServiceŽ 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with R. Raymond Rossell officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Gregory Leroy Johnson
54, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Friday, October 19, 2001 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Johnson was born December 7, 1946, in Charlotte, Michigan, the son of Clayton and Marion (Snow) Johnson. He was a 1965 graduate of Charlotte High School, a Vietnam veteran, former GM employee and a truck driver. He is survived by his son Heath of California, brother Winston (Dianne) Johnson of Charlotte, sisters Deanna (Gerry) Becktel of Cloverdale Lake, MI, Christine Johnson and her husband Larry Reynolds of Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his sister Marcella and his parents. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at Lakeview Cemetery in Nashville, with Rev. Al Metler officiating. Visitation will be Monday 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled Veteran Fund.

Velma A. Pease
76 of Charlotte Michigan, died Sunday, October 21, 2001. Mrs. Pease was born March 9, 1925 in Kalamo Township, the daughter of Howard and Athel (Pitt) Oaster. Mrs. Pease attended the Kalamo United Methodist Church and was a 50 year life member and Past Matron of the Kalamo O.E.S, Chapter 399. She was Past President of the Eaton County Association O.E.S., a member of the Association for Retarded Children, and a board member of the EBI Breakthrough. She was Valedictorian of the Bellevue High School Class of 1943 and graduated from Western Michigan University. Mrs. Pease taught school at Portland and Vermontville Schools, Myers Country School and was a substitute teacher for many years. She is survived by her husband Edward, daughters Carolyn (Gary) LaCross, Cheryl Pease, Christine Pease, grandchildren Jason LaCross (fiance Melissa Kleeman and her son Tray Hammer), Jill (Adam) Potter, sister Joyce (Bernard) Otto and several nieces and nephews. A sister Eldora Anderson, preceded her in death in 1975. Funeral and O.E.S. memorial services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, October 25 at the Bellevue United Methodist Church in Bellevue with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue. Visitation will be 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM on Tuesday and Wednesday at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Bellevue Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

Charlene Shirley (Uhl) Williams
63, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Monday, October 22, 2001. Mrs. Williams was born December 14, 1937, in Eaton County, Michigan the daughter of Charles and Frances (Meyers) Uhl. She was President of Eagles Auxiliary Arie #3552 of Charlotte, District Treasurer of Eagles Auxiliary District #11 and Past District President. She enjoyed arts and crafts as a hobby. She is survived by her husband of 33 years Edwin Williams, son Kent E. (Teresa) Williams of Olivet, daughter Kelley (Christopher) Keverne of Charlotte, mother Frances Uhl of Charlotte, brother Lawrence Uhl of Cloverdale, step-daughter Sandy (Curtis) Fraley of Vermontville, step-sons Rick (Judy) Williams of Vermontville, Gary (Vickie Carter) Williams of Springport, step-daughter Trudy Patrick of Charlotte, 18 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father Charles Uhl Sr., daughter Kimberly and brother Charles Uhl Jr. Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Thursday, October 25, 2001 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Charles Jenson officiating. Interment will be in Gresham Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be Wednesday 2- 4 and 7 - 9 pm at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice.

Mildred Kathleen Bartlett
74, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Wednesday, October 24, 2001. Mrs. Bartlett was born December 9, 1926, in Charlotte, the daughter of Lavern and Leah (Myers) Burchfield. Her pride and joy were her family and taking care of many children over the years. She is survived by daughters Linda (Don) Wertz of Charlotte, Sally Stahl of Eaton Rapids, and Nancy (Larry) Stallings of Franklin, Georgia, son Steve Bartlett of Eaton Rapids, sister June Tracy of Williamston, 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Hoyt in 1965, daughter Sandra in 1991, brother Lavern Jr. in 1993, grandchildren Matthew and Amanda in 1976. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2001 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Pastor Randy Royston officiating. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing at a later date. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Pray Funeral Home.

Rose Ann "Rosie" Troll
74 of Marshall, Michigan, died Thursday, October 25, 2001. Mrs. Troll was born May 23, 1927 in Wagner, South Dakota, the daughter of Karl and Anna (Verba) Brodsky. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Lee Hustler's Extension Club and had worked as a substitute worker at Olivet Community Schools. She loved birds, doing crosswords, working with flowers, cross stitching and her family and friends. She also loved her Czech Polka music. She is survived by her husband Winfred, sons Leonard E. of Marshall, twins John of Charlotte, and James of Metamora, Mark of Olivet, daughter Jean A. Troll of Olivet, 3 grandchildren, brothers Ernest Brodsky of Oshkosh, Wisconsin and Donald Brodsky of Newark, Ohio. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 29, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte, with Rev. Fr. Denis R. Spitzley officiating. Interment will be in Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet. Visitation will be 7-9 PM on Saturday and 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Sunday with a Parish Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Michigan.

Glenn C. Brandon
54, of Potterville, Michigan, died Saturday, October 27, 2001. Mr. Brandon was born November 3, 1946, in Edmore, Michigan, the son of Albert M. and Nellie E. (Johnson) Brandon. Mr. Brandon was a farmer. He is survived by brothers: Robert (Carol) Brandon of Vermontville, Vern (Susan) Brandon of Sheridan, Ronald Brandon of Charlotte, Donald (Donna) Brandon of Charlotte, sisters: Virginia (Reggie) Potter of Charlotte, Sandra (Billy) Eggleston of Charlotte, Ruth (Fred) Lawcock of Battle Creek, Mary (John) Myers of Charlotte, Dixie (Raymond) Weaver of Barryton and special friend Betty Speaks of Potterville, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Blance N. Zimmerman
71, of Mason, Michigan, died Sunday, October 28, 2001, in Lansing, Michigan. Mrs. Zimmerman was born July 12, 1930, in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Floyd J. and Charlotte L. (Williams) Smith. She had been employed by Dart Container Corporation for 36 years. She especially loved her family, dancing and work. Surviving are her daughter, Vicki (Donald) Passick of Charlotte, two step-sons, Lou (Alice) Zimmerman of North Carolina and Ronald Zimmerman of Alabama, five grandchildren, Kimberly, Jason and his wife, Beth, Jeffrey, and Justin Passick, Katrina and her husband, Nicholas Lumsden, two step grandchildren, Corey and DeeDee Zimmerman, five great grandchildren, John, Alex, Abigail, Emily and Adrian, two brothers, Harold Smith of Lansing and John (Bev) Smith of Onendaga, many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 1 P.M. Thursday, November 1st at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Duane Royston officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Visitation will be 2-5 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Viola Irene Papoi
88 of Charlotte, Michigan, died Sunday, October 28, 2001. Mrs. Papoi was born June 25, 1913 in Charlotte, Michigan, the daughter of Arthur and Sena (Peterson) Horn. She worked with her husband at Papoi Automotive Service for many years and had also worked at Wilcox Gay, Heyfeitz Manufacturing. She enjoyed bowling and playing Bingo. She is survived by sons, Robert A. Papoi of Gadsden, Alabama; Michael (Peggy) Papoi of Charlotte, daughter Jeanette Brondstetter of Mt. Pleasant, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Tony in January, 1992. Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte, with R. Raymond Rossell officiating. There will be no visitation. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Kathleen Ella Couke
of Charlotte, MI was born June 7, 1916 in Chester Township, Eaton County, Michigan the daughter of Dennis and Clinda (Lamie) McCormick and passed away October 28, 2001 at age 85. She attended the Hubbard School, graduated from Charlotte High School, Western Michigan University in 1938, and did graduate work from the University of Michigan. Kathleen taught elementary grades in Jackson and Alma before retiring from the Charlotte Schools. In June 1940 she married Arthur Couke of Grand Blanc and Jackson, an experimental engineer who passed away in 1989. It was a great joy to her to work with children in school and church. She received a State of Michigan License to organize and be a supervisor of a Day Care Center in her church where she also taught Sunday School for years. She had a talent for writing skits and plays to present to the public. During her lifetime Kathleen was a member of the First Congregational Church, Mary Martha Circle, Women's Club, Care, Salvation Army Board, Upsilon Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was a Golden Key Member of the Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital and its Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member of teacher groups, MARSP and treasurer of ECARSP for Eaton County. She was a community volunteer in other areas. She is survived by daughter Amy Couke and nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, in Charlotte, MI. Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Mildred Mae Towe
91, of Charlotte, died November 1, 2001. Mrs. Towe was born December 17, 1909 in Roxand Township of Eaton County, Michigan, the daughter of Bert and Laura (Allen) Taylor. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of the Latter Day Saints and a Red Cross Volunteer for over 25 years. She enjoyed crocheting afghans for grandchildren and earned her G.E.D. at 75 years of age. She is survived by son Larry (Charlotte) Towe of Charlotte, daughter-in-law Pat Towe, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grand children, 2 great great grand children, brother Lehman Taylor of Arizona, sister Marion Peabody of Arizona, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Clare in 1978, sons Gary Towe in 1996, Blake Towe in 2000, Merle Towe and former daughter-in-law Joyce Towe in 1980. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2001 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, MI with Richard Garn officiating. Interment will be in Meadowbrook Cemetery in Mulliken, MI. Visitation will be Saturday 7 - 9 p.m. and Sunday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home.
