Maxim Patrick DeLosh, Jr.
DURAND -- Maxim Patrick DeLosh, Jr. - Age 47, of Durand, died Wednesday, February 7, 2001 at Memorial Healthcare in Owosso. Cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Max was born April 11, 1953 in Clawson, the son of Maxim Patrick and Bettye E. (Redman) DeLosh. He lived in Gainesville, FL for 15 years, where he owned D's Barber Styling. He later became an Equine Dentist, a job that he loved. Through his work he made many friends in Michigan. He donated his time to numerous horse organizations teaching proper Equine dental care. Max was an avid bass fisherman and was a member of The Buick City Bassbusters Fishing Club. He was also a past member of the Michigan Waltz" which was a short lived hit throughout the U.P. (especially amongst friends and relatives.)
Nellie is survived by her son Steve (Anne) Rowloff of Ishpeming, 2 sisters: Mary Macomber of Greenville, MI & Floy (William) Drake of Freemont, MI, 2 brothers: Martin (Phyllis) Smith of Bitely, MI and John (Sandra) Smith of Ewen, several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers Richard Smith and Henry Smith and a sister Frances Smith.
There will be a graveside service at the Ewen Cemetery in the spring.

Robert J. Bleau
ISHPEMING -- Robert J. Bleau, 51, of 100 E. Pearl St., died Friday, February 9, 2001 at Marquette General Hospital where he was a patient since January 28.
He was born in Marquette on October 29, 1949. Bob attended Negaunee High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam with the rank of Sp. 5 as a cook. He had also been employed at the Mather B. Mine.
Bob loved his family, hiking, fishing, music and possessed a quiet reverence for nature and animals, especially dogs. He was deeply religious in his own right.
He is survived by his mother and father: Phyllis (Kangas) and William Bleau of Negaunee, one brother: John Bleau of Ishpeming, three sisters: Linda Symons of Negaunee, Deborah (Dennis) Mack of St. Joseph, MI, and Cynthia (Robert) DeCaire of Ishpeming, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Bleau.
Private services were held Saturday at the Perala Funeral Home with Rev. Lauri Maki of Bethel Lutheran Church officiating.
Armondo A. Guizzetti
NEGAUNEE -- Armondo A. Guizzetti, 78, of 215 Gold St., Negaunee died at 7:40 AM on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where he had been a patient since Aug. 31, 2000.
Armondo was born April 4, 1922 in North Lake to Antonio 'Tony' & Theresa (Boggio) Guizzetti. He lived most of his life in Negaunee and attended Negaunee St. Paul HIgh School. He began his career with CCI at the Athens Mine in 1942 and worked at the Bunker Hill Mine, the Mather 'B' Mine, the Empire Mine & Tilden Mine before retiring in 1987.
Mr. Guizzetti was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Negaunee. He enjoyed snowmobiling, sailing on Teal Lake, bicycle riding, and above all, spending tiime with his grandchildren.
Surviving are one daughter, Darleen (Ray) Eliason, Michigamme, 2 sons; Anthony 'Sonny' (Susan) Guizzetti, Negaunee, Lee G. Guizzetti, Ishpeming 7 grandchildren; Hope Carlson,, Tonilee Cullison, Tina, David & Laura Guizzetti, Mari Lee & Marlo Renee Guizzetti, 4 great grandchildren; Bethany & Luke Carlson, Ashley & Andrew Cullison, 2 sisters; Lucille (John) Chaison & Albina Badelich, both of Torrance CA. A step-sister, Marjorie Lind, Negaunee and a host of wonderful friends at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hope (Olson) on Sept. 18, 1998, and an infant sister, Lucia Guizzetti.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church, U.S. 41, Negaunee. Rev. Bruce A. Tanner will officiate and interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery.
The family will greet friends & relatives from 1-3 PM prior to the services at Calvary Baptist Church on Tuesday. A luncheon will follow the service in the church hall. The Koskey Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Dr. Phillip A. Doepke
MARQUETTE -- Dr. Philip A. Doepke, 64, of 1711 Mildred, Marquette, died early Sunday morning, February 11, 2001 at his residence. Dr. Doepke was born January 24,1937 in the city of Princeton, Green Lake County, Wisconsin receiving degrees in zoology with a BS in 1959, MS in 1963 and Ph.D. in 1970. He was commissioned in the U.S. Army medical service corps, active reserve in 1959. He served on active duty in 1960 and 1961 and completed his military commitment in 1967 as a 1st Lieutenant. He attended the University of Michigan Room of the University Center on the campus of Northern N.Y. Yankee fan. Among his greatest thrills in sports was being there to watch the Negaunee Miners win the state basketball championships in 1957 & 2000. He loved to bowl, play cribbage, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are 5 sons; Robert (Dolores) Jandron, Negaunee, Richard Jandron, Marquette, Paul (Laura) Jandron, Negaunee, Dave (Judy) Jandron, Negaunee, Ray (Jean) Jandron, Ishpeming, 2 daughters, Catherine (Charles) Durocher and Sharon (Daniel) Landmark, both of Negaunee, a daughter-in-law, Priscilla Jandron, Negaunee, 3 sisters; Pat LaMere, Peggy Treloar, and Shirley (Robert) Marcotte, all of Negaunee, 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years, Lydia (Rovedo) on Oct. 8,1998, 2 brothers; Leroy & Lawrence, 1 sister, Alice Quayle.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 12:00 noon on Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee with Rev. John J. Shiverski officiating. Entombment will be at the Northland Chapel Gardens Mausoleum. Pallbearers were grandsons; Robbie, Kurt, Dale, Richie, & Ramon Jandron, Scott Jandron & Kevin Landmark. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gordon A. Karvonen
NEGAUNEE -- Gordon A. Karvonen, 75, 98 Croix St., Apt, #249 died at 5:40 AM on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001 at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility where he had been a patient for 1 week.
Mr. Karvonen was born Feb. 4, 1926 in Mohawk, Iowa, and A.J. Karvonen, Negaunee, 1 brother, Donald (Cheryl) Karvonen, Marquette, 3 sisters: Lila Hongisto, Chassell, Judith (Reuben) Anderson, of Betsy, Shirley (Albert) Baillargeon, McHenry, IL, several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty in 1991, 1 brother Norman, 3 sisters; Norma Linna, Venla & Elaine Karvonen.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at Eastwood Apostolic Lutheran Church with Rev. D Michael Carriere officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Calumet.
Friends may call at the Koseky Funeral Home from 5-8 PM on Tuesday.
Alice Sofia Simonen
MUNISING -- Alice Sofia Simonen, age 93, of Munising, died on Sunday, February 11, 2001 at her home. She was born on February 10, 1908 in Belt, Montana, to the late Tuomas and Saima (Antila) Ikola. Alice grew up in Ishpeming and graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1925. She was a graduate of Northern Washington and Lincoln Schools. She retired in 1967 and all her life enjoyed following the accomplishments of her students as they grew up.
Alice was a member of Eden Evangelical Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, played piano for the Finnish services and was a member of the Hope Circle. She was also a charter member of the California, Fredric (Christine) and Edward (Judith) all of Richland, Michigan. On February 15, 1928 he married Nora Neal in the Sault, and they moved to the Marquette area in 1936. Art was employed as a superintendent of production at the former Our Own Bakery for over 49 years, retiring in 1969. Art enjoyed spending time with his family, was a great storyteller, loyal Detroit Red Wings fan, and loved going to the casino where he was an avid Black Jack player. He was a member of St. Peter Cathedral, the Marquette Exchange Club, a life member of Marquette Elks Lodge B.P.O.E #405, and the United Commercial Travelers. A devoted and loving father, proud grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, and brother, he is survived by: his daughter, Loretta Duquette of Marquette; a daughter-in-law, Marion Poppe of Marquette; his grandchildren, Steven, Michael, and David Poppe, JoAnn (James) McClelland, and Diane (Don) Ott; great-grandchildren, Erin Poppe, Trista, Taylor, and Lee McClelland, and Elizabeth and David Ott; a great-great grandson, Masen Poppe; a brother, Oscar Poppe of Christmas, FL; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Art was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Poppe in 1997; a son, Joseph E. Poppe in 1960; his son-in-law, Bernard Duquette in 1995; a grandson, Daniel Duquette in 1981; sisters, Josephine Colyn and Alice Willem; and a brother, Henry Poppe. Friends may call at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Thursday, February 15, from 4 to 7 pm. Marquette Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #405 will conduct a memorial ritual in the funeral home at 6 pm. Funeral services will follow at 7pm Thursday evening in the funeral home with Rev. Msgr. Louis Cappo officiating. Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Art's grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild will serve as his honorary escorts. Memorials may be directed to the UP Children's Museum or Bay Cliff Health Camp.
George S. Raish
BOYNTON BEACH -- George S. Raish, 92, of Boynton Beach passed away Thursday February 8th after an extended illness.
Mr. Raish was born in Birch Michigan.
He served simultaneously as a Marquette City Commissioner and County Supervisor. A member of the Holy Cross Cemetery board, many church and community committees. He was a member of Elks lodge 405, Knights of Columbus council 689 where he had served as Grand Knight, a fourth degree Knight of Columbus, Moose Lodge 1059, United Commercial Travelers, and the Marquette Exchange Club.
He was a member of St. Peter Cathedral Parish in Marquette where he married Marie A. (Grant) in 1935. Mrs. Ralsh passed away in 1952. He is survived by his present wife of 45 years Lillian (Gauthier), his brother Louis (Margaret) of Albuquerque N.M., sons George D. Raish of Marquette Ml, and Richard G. Raish of Boynton Beach, grandchildren Christine (Gary) Orman, Mary Kay (Lowell) Laabs, Kathy Ann (Stan) Greer, James J. DeMarinis, Michael G. DeMarinis, and Jeannie (Mike) Chapman, and many nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.
Mr. Raish was preceded in death by his daughter Marybeth (James) DeMarinis, two brothers Les (Margaret) and Ivan (Catherine), two sisters Mary (Joseph) Kostelaec and Ruth (Paul) LaCosse.
A Memorial mass will be offered at 2:00 P.M Wednesday February 14 at St. Marks Catholic Church in Boynton Beach followed by cremation. A memorial ceremony and internment will take place at a later date In Marquette Ml.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society.
Del Richard Clapp
HARVEY -- Del Richard Clapp, 68, of Harvey, died Tuesday evening at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Clapp was born July 26, 1932 in Clayton, Florida, entered eternal life early Wednesday morning, February 14, 2001, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where she had been a patient since November. Judy was born June 17, 1924 in Shainsville, PA, a daughter of the late Fredrick and Ella (Caldwell) Graham and was raised in Florida, the last ten of which were spent in Port St. Lucie. She moved to the Marquette area six months ago, due to ill health, to be nearer her daughter. During her lifetime, Judy had been employed as a waitress and as a salesclerk for S & H Green Stamps. She was also a major distributor of Avon products for over 15 years, receiving many awards for her achievements. Judy enjoyed crocheting afghans, playing BINGO, and was an avid TV sports enthusiast, especially enjoying baseball and football. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Port St. Lucie. A loving mother and sister, she is survived by: her daughter, Sandra (William) Houle of 312 Chamberlain Street, Marquette; two sisters, Cenia Keller of Virginia Beach, VA, and Kristina DiPasquale of Buffalo, NY; two brothers, Fred S. Graham of Morrisdale, PA, and James Graham of Clearfield, PA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold H. Butterworth; a son, Willard Neff; sister, Cricket Wisor; and a brother, Milford Graham. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, February 17, at l pm in the Fassbender Funeral Home with Rev. Laurel Halvorson Bernard officiating. Inurnment will be made in the Vista Memorial Gardens in Hialeah, FL.
Marylou Warchock
GWINN -- Marylou Warchock, 73, of Gwinn, lost her courageous battle against cancer on Wednesday morning at her home.
Mrs. Warchock was born May 15, 1927 in Niles, Ohio State University with a degree in food services. Marylou worked for the Bay Village School District in Bay Village, Michigan.
Marylou was a fraternity mother at the University of Ohio; son, Gordon Jeffrey (Holly) Warchock and loving granddaughter, Stasha Ray; son, Michael Warchock and grandchildren; also special friends, Cindy (Tim) Beauchamp and Julie (Doyle) Richards. Preceding her in death besides her parents was a son, Daniel Harsh; also one sister, Dorothy Rudibaugh.
Friends may call at the Gwinn Funeral Home on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of services scheduled for 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Lawrence Jones of First Presbyterian Church officiating.

Norman G. Hiltunen
L'ANSE -- Norman G. Hiltunen, 72, died February 12, 2001 in St. Paul, MN following a brief illness. Norm was born in Pelkie, MI., July 17, 1928, son of the late Yalmer and Hilma (Maki) Hiltunen. He attended L'Anse High School and was a 1945 graduate. He moved to Minneapolis where he was employed as department manager for the Aslesen Corportion, a restaurant supply firm. He retired in 1983 and moved back to L'Anse.
On September 10, 1949, he married the former Virginia Clyne in L'Anse. Norm was a member of the L'Anse Lions Club, the Ottawa Sportsman Club, and the Superiorland Music Group. His lifetime love of music was displayed by performances at various functions at the organ and on the accordian. He was a regular performer at the annual Aura Jamboree in addition to being Master of Ceremonies for several years. He also entertained at nursing homes and senior citizens groups. His leisure activities included hunting and fishing. Norm will be remembered for his community spirit and the sharing of his musical talents with others and above all, love of his family. Norm in survived by Virginia, his loving wife of 51 years, sons Steven (Brenda) of Farmington, NM, and Paul (Holly) Hiltunen of Maplegrove, MN and daughter Susan (Gordon) Hanson of W. St. Paul, MN; grandchildren Jennifer, Drew, Eric and Karen, brother Alden (Glenda) Hiltunen of Aura, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma.
Funeral services for Mr. Hiltunen will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2001 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse. Pastor Judy Mattson of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church will officiate and spring burial will take place in L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday February 16 from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel. In lie of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests memorials for musical scholarships. Evelopes will be available at the funeral chapel. Follwing the service, friends are invited to join the family in the Harrington Gathering Room located at the funeral chapel for lunch and sharing memories. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L'Anse assisted the family with arrangements.
Dorothy Been Hanson
SKANEE -- Dorothy Been Hanson, age 86, of Skanee, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2001, at her home.
There will be no visitation or funeral services. In memory of Dorothy memorials may be made to the Huron Island Lighthouse Preservation, P.O. Box 381, L'Anse, MI 49946.
The Sirard Funeral Home of Baraga is assisting the family.
