Robert Sullivan, 75, of Calumet, died Dec, 31, 1999. He was born in Laurium Oct. 16, 1924, to Con and Susan Sullivan. Surviving are a sister, Betty Tambellini of Laurium, a daughter, Susan Blake; and grandchildren, Erin and Ian all of Ashland, OH.

John Holme, 84, of Calumet, died Dec. 14th. He was born Dec. 19, 1915, in Kellogg, ID, a son of John and Minnie Home. He married Lucille Harma in 1939. He is survived by his wife; and a son, John of Calumet.

Barbara June Daniels, 67, of Ontonagaon, died on December 31st. She was born to Mae and Orville Strapp June 16, 1932, in McAlester, OK. She is survived by four children, Donald and Samala, Connie and James Peterson of Ontonagon, Diane and Stanley Voldarski, and Linda and Gerald Knickerbocker all of Ontonagon; 11 grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two sisters, Edna Lawson and Helen Stringer of CA.

Alma A. Seiter, died on December 30th. She was born in Otter Lake, April 27, 1909, a daughter of John and Anna (Lantto) Naasko. She married Carl Seiter in 1938, he died in 1992. Surviving are daughters, Virginia and Paul Pieti of Farmington Hills, Carol and John Sturos of Laurium; three sons, Carl and Chrystine of Pinckney, MI, William and Paula of Brighton, MI, Arthur and Christine of Milford; a sister, Ida and John Heltunen of L'Anse; a brother, Calvin Naasko of Otter Lake; 15 grandsons, 17 granddaughters, and 26 great-grandchildren.

Alli M. Hiltunen, 87, of Nisula died on December 29, 1999. She was born January 12, 1912, in Hancock, to John and Mary (Salo) Ala. She married Fred Hiltunen in 1935, He died in 1970. Alli was a teacher for the Laird School in Alston from 1942 to 1965, and then taught in the Baraga School from 1965 until her retirement in 1974. She is survived by two sons, Raymond and Carol and Gerald and Donna of Nisula; two daughters, Lucille and Russell Bartanen of Marquette and Kathryn and Dan Harken of Bloomington, MN; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Esther and Donald Lehto of Baraga.

Mildred M. Chapman,91, of Hancock, died on December 28, 1999. She was born June 10, 1908, in Detroit, a daughter of Lewis and Mabel (Osgood)Reid. On March 24, 1926, she married Harold Chapman, Harold died in 1989. Surviving are two daughters, Jean Schneider of Royal Oak and Barbara and Robert Blake of Pittsford, NY; five sons, Art and Carol of Sarasota, FL, Glenn and Evelyn of Chassell, Charles and Martha of Harrison, Donald and Trudy of Chestertown, MD, and ronald and Linda of Troy; 26 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Rowland Chapman of Sarasota, FL; two sisters-in-law, Edith and Reid Poss of jacksonville, FL and Ruby Chapman of Orlando, FL.

Helen V. Parolini, 82, of Baltic died on Dec. 29th. She was born May 3, 1917, in Baraga, a daughter of Arthur and Adelia (Haapaniemi) Mattila. She married Edward Parolini in 1949. Surviving are her husband; two sons, Larry and Edward both of the Suo District; two daughters, Brenda and Richard Miller of Grand Ledge, MI and Diane and John Waisanen of Overland Park, KS; five grandchildren; two brothers, Ben Marttila, Gordon and Eleanor; three sisters, Ina Tepsa, Eleanor Heinonen, and Martha and Ernest Heikkinen.

John R. Sibilsky, 92, of Laurium, died Dec. 29th. He was born December 10, 1907, in Laurium, a son of Jessie and Tony Sibilsky. He married Leona Thomas on October 5, 1937. He is survived by his wife; a son, John and Nora Sibilsky of Sacramento, CA; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Dr. Robert and Marion Sibilsky fo Jackson, MI; and a brother-in-law, J. Robert and Jane Thomas of Laurium.

Erling A. Tollefson, 84, of Baraga, died Dec. 29, 1999. He was born May 20, 1915, in L'Anse, son of Waldemar and Sarah (Eliason) Tollefson. He married Sylvia Styrk in 1945. Erling was a salesman for Jewel Tea Co for 17 years, then worked for Celotex for seven years as a security guard. He is survived by his wife; son Jaren and Christine of L'Anse; two stepsons, Henry and Sharon Auge of Rapid River and Gary and Susan Auge of Gladstone; grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Ella Wickstrom Bo, of Laurium, died on December 25th. She was born Nov. 22, 1906, in Calumet, a daughter of August and Tilly (Niemela) Wickstorm. Surviving are a daughter Mary Ellen and Arnold Eggeling; a grandson; four grandaughters, 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha Nichols; and two brothers, Arthur and Winfred Wickstrom.

Marylyn Gerbig, 66, of Ironwood died on Dec. 24, 1999. She was born April 17, 1933, in Wakefield, the daughter of Claude and Eva Grayson. In 1950, she married Robert L. Gerbig, Sr. Surviving are three sons, Robert and Patti of Lake Linden, larry and Sherri and Dale and Valerie, all of Wakefield; two daughters, CArolyn Martinson of Bessemer and Gail Jarvela of Ironwood; 18 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a sister, Vivian and William Bolen of Wakefield.

Douglas Taylor, 42, of South Range, died at his residence in South Range. He was born Aug. 14, 1957, a son of June and Eugene Taylor. He is survived by a son, Corey; his mother, June Wilmers of Laurium, his father, Eugene of Coldwater; three brothers, Kenneth and Irene of Iron Mountaion, Mark of Kincheloe and Michael and Karen of Detroit; two step-brothers, Gary Miller and Clyde Miller; two sisters, Janet and John roberts of Orono, MN, and Joanne and Richard Wimberley of Monument CO.

Lawrence J. Hosang, 62, of Bootjack, died on Dec. 27, 1999, following a short illness. He was born in Hubbell on Aug. 11, 1937, a son of Lawrence E. and Monica (Hochstein)Hosang. Larry had been employed by Calumet and Hecla, Inc. He later owned a Standard Oil Station in Lake Linden. He then worked for the Lake Linden-Hubbell Schools and retired in 1998. He married Margaret Gestel in 1969. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Beth Abramson of Houghton; a grandson, William of Houghton; two brothers, John Hosang of Hubbell and Carl and Julie Hosang of Champion; three sisters, Laurine, Ann and Mary Hosang of Hubbell.

Thomas Bardo, 59, of Big Traverse, died on Dec. 27, 1999, at his residence of an apparent heart attack. He was born June 28, 1940, a son of James and Taimi Barda. He was employed with the Michigan Liquor Control Commission for over 30 years. He married Brenda Hiltunen in 1978. Suriving are his wife; a son, Dan and Dawn of Luther, MI; a daughter, Susan of Dearborn; and three grandchldren.

Michael Tomasi, 92, of Calumet, died Dec. 25, 1999. He was born on August 20, 1907, in Calumet, a son of Andrew and Margaret Tomasi. He married Velda Clouthier Fausone in 1972. Surviving are his wife, Valeda; a brother, Paul and Georgiana of Detroit; a sister, Louisa and John Simons of CA; and nieces and nephews.

John W. Jukkala, 85, of Elo passed away Dec. 26, 1999. He was born Oct.12, 1914, in Trimountain, a son of Leonard and Margaret (Niemi) Jukkala. Surviving are two brothers, Matt and Martha Jukkala of Atlantic Mine and Arky and Jean of Gaylord; a sister Eleanor Partanen of LaCrescenta, CA; a sister-in law, Elmi Jukkala of Houghton.

Helen Heinonen, 85, of Baraga, died Dec. 26, 1999. She was born on Feb. 6, 1914, in Pelkie, a daughter of Henry and Hilda (Seppala) Aandelin. She married Raymond Heinonen in 1955. Surviving are her husband; a brother, Ted and Lulu Sandelin of Baraga and several nieces and nephews.

Charlotte (Boase) Farley, of Chassell died Dec. 27, 1999. Charlotte was born on Aug. 23, 1915, in Ishpeming to Gust and Anna (Carlson) Holmgren. She is survivied by two daughters, Charlotte and Robert Hager and Joan and Gregg Bjorne, both of Chassell; a stepdaughter, Marjorie and Steven Pearson and a stepson, Richard and Julie Farley, all of Ishpeming; a brother, George and Tekla Holmgren of Ishpeming; and seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren.

Betty Carlson, 64, of Calumet died Dec. 27, 1999, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility where she had been a patient for the past seven years. She was born on Nov. 15 1935, in Calumet, a daughter of Evert and Eleanor Paulson. She married Albert Carlson in 1951 he died in 1996. Betty is survived by a daughter, Rosie and Charles Teddy of Laurium; a son, Terry and Carolyn of Ishpeming; a granddaughrter; three grandsons; a great grandson; a brother, Floyd Paulson of Calumet; three sisters, Sharon Liimata of Calumet, Darlene and Ted Fisher of Calumet and Patti and Martin Moilanen of Sheboygan Falls, WI.

William A. Joyal, 87, of Point Mills, passed away Dec. 25, 1999, at Our Lady of Mercy Convalescent Home in Hubbell. He was born Aug. 27, 1912 in Point Mills, a son of Joseph and Delia (Beaudoin) Joyal. Bill had worked for the Quincy Mining Company, Bay Lumber Co, and later Foley Copper Products in Dollar Bay until its closing. His wife Hilja (Leskinen) preceded him in death in 1993. He is survived by two sons, David and Carol of Point Mills, William and Marilyn of Woodside Location; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother, Marvin Joyal of Dollar BAy.

John Federighi, 88, of Hancock, died Dec. 22, 1999. He was born in Hancock, a son of Anton and Enrina (Micheletti) Federighi. He married Virginia Miller in 1941. During WWII, John served in the US Navy in the Asiatic-Pacific area aboard the battleship USS Mississippi. He was employed at the Bosch Brewery in Houghton for 20 years as the Chief Botler. He was later employed by Michigan Tech, and then the Dept of Social Services for 10 years. He is survived by his wife, a son, Richard of San Diego; a daughter, Patricia and Charles Markham of Hancock; a grandson, John Markham of Hancock; and a sister, Mary Leo Lucchesi of Hancock.

Jacob Hakala, 72, of Askel, died Dec. 23, 1999. Jack was born Sept 2, 1927, in Askel, a son of John and Olga (Tauriainen) Hakala. He married Maryann Baker in 1955. Jack worked for the Pen State Highway Department. He later worked at White Pine Copper Mine for over 20 years, retiring due to his health. He is survived by his wife; a son, richard and Dani Hakala of Houston, TX; two daughters, Jackie of Houghton; Darlene and Vince Forest of Lake Placid, FL; a brother, Evert of Askel; five sisters, Ida Plutz of West Palm Beach, FL, Sophie Nedoli of Lake Villa, IL, Elma Turpeinen of hancock, Vera and Tom Lahikainen of Dollar Bay, Helen Maki of Clarkston, and five grandchildren.

Davis R. Carlson, 67, of Calumet died Dec 24th. following an apparent heart attack. He was born on Dec. 31, 1931 in Laurium, a son of Jennie and Alex Carlson. In 1960 he married Frances Klarich. He was first employed as a miner for Calumet and Hecla Mining Company and later by White Pine Mining Company. In later years, he was a self-employed carpenter, retiring in 1994. He is survived by his wife, a son, Eric and Krista of Laurium; a daughter, Debra and James McCullah of Laurium; a grandson; two sisters, Jean and Wilbert Thomas of Calumet, Eris and Sam Juvingo of Streamwood, IL; and an uncle, Ernest and Alta Oinas of Ann Arbor.

Walter J. Perrault, 77, of Calumet, died on Dec. 19th. He was born on May 5, 1922 in Kearsarge, a son of Olympe and Homer Perrault. In 1954, he married Charmaine Jones. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Margaret and Louis Schmidt of Kingsford, MI; Kathleen and Duane Jacques of Kingsford; four grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and a brother, Clifford and Barbara Perreault.

Sylvia M. Korpi, 83, of L'Anse, died on December 17, 1999. She was born in Atlantic Mine on August 14, 1916, a daughter of Charles and Mary (Hiltunen) Heikkinen. She married Ero Korpi in 1935 in Ishpeming. They owned and operated the family farm in Watton for many years. Surviving are four daughters, Marilyn and Robert Burns of Hurley, WI, Verna and Claude Leinonen of Covington, Shirley and Merle Conrad of Rockford, MI, Betty Korpi of L'Anse; a brother, Toivo and Helfi Heikkinen of Covington; two sisters, Elsie Nevala of L'Anse; Esther Rowloff of Port Huron; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Robert W. Cote, 71, of Calumet, died on December 17, 1999, at the DJ Jacobetti Center in marquette where he was a resident patient for the past 10 years. He was born on June 5, 1928 in Calumet, a son of Joseph and Regina (Olson) Cote. He married Pearl Salo in 1955. He was a veteran, having served with the US Army. Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie and Walter Anderson, of Spread eagle, WI, Donna Cote of Houston, TX; and three grandchildren.

Adolph Michaud, 100, of Chassell, passed away on December 18, 1999. He was born on May 26, 1899, in Chassell. Adolph was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Army. His wife Lucille, preceded him in death in 1985. Surviving are two sisters, Estelle and Thomas Doherty of Houghton Lake; Olive Leighter of Sterling Heights; two brothers, Horace of Chassell, and Willard of Garden City.

Diana M. Hocking, 64, of South Range, died unexpectedly at her home on Dec 16, 1999. She was born on June 19, 1935, in Detroit, a daughter of Robert and Pearl (Cossette) Buckley. On May 12, 1956, she married Clarence G. Hocking. Diana first worked at the MTU Library. She then owned and operated Diana's School of Dance in Hancock, where she taught ballet and studio dance and also did coreography for many school plays and recitals at the Hancock High School. Surviving are her husband; two sons and four daughters, Linda and Kim Sohlden of Atlantic Mine, mary and Paul Schaefer of Hudson, WI, Clare and Jon Rabitoy of Davenport, Iowa; Judy and Ed Verran of Hancock; George and Betsy Hocking of Liminga, Robert and Diana of South Range; 20 grandchildren; a sister-in-law Pauline Simmons of Hancock; and three nieces.

William Voskuhl, 90, of Baraga, died Dec. 14, 1999. He was born on June 11, 1909, in Baraga a son of Henry and Mary (Snieders) Voskuhl. Bill worked as a planer operator at the Northwoods Lunber Company in Baraga and later, as a custodian in the Baraga Schools until his retirement in 1971. Surviving are his wife, Jeanette; two sons, William and Gayle and Tom and Mary Ann both of L'Anse; three daughters, Judy and Tom Whaley of Yuma, AZ, Rose and Bruce Ekdahl of Ishpeming, Ranae of Cupertino, CA; a sister, Manie Merique of Union Lake, MI; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Sylvia T. Waldowski, 85, of Hubbell, died Dec. 15th. She was born on Sept. 25, 1914 in Oneco Location, a daughter of John E. and Mary (manninen) Ahonen. She married Vitold Waldowski, he died in 1968. She is survived by a daughter Jeanette of Houghton.

John Paul Ryan, 87, of Eagle Harbor, died on December 15, 1999. He was born in Calumet on June 26, 1912 to Patrick and Ella Ryan. He married Helen Bennetts in 1932, in Calumet. He is survived by a daughter, Ann Rea of Ann Arbor; two sons, John P. and Joann of Warren and William and Jean of Royal Oak; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Elma S. Lehtola, 95, of Laurium, died on December 15, 1999, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where she had been a resident for the past two and a half years. Elma was born on April 30, 1904 in Traprock Valley to August and Suzanna (Takala) Koskela. She was married to Victor Lehtola who preceded her in death. She is survived by three daughters, Norma Kinnunen of Ishpeming, Florence and robert Eckloff of Swanton, OH, and Judith Schuster of Ishpeming; two sons, Donald and Charlene Lehto of Jackson, MA and Gordon and Verna of Ishpeming; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Joerome A. "Beck" Becklus, 80, of South Range, died on December 12, 1999. He was born on August 7, 1919, in Green Bay, a son of John and Marie (Germain) Becklus. He worked in the Copper Range mines, the Donken sawmill, and retired in 1974 from Burrough's Corp in Detroit. In 1946, he married Elizabeth Steinene in Painesdale. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII in the Pacific Theater in Guadal Canal and the European Theater. Surviving are his wife Betty of South Range; two sons, Michael of Saginaw, John and Phyllis of Canton, MI; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Eunice Marzke Schmidt, 83, of Calumet, passed away Dec. 13, 1999, at Cypress Manor Nursing Home where she had resided for the past four years. She was born in Amsterdam, NY, Dec. 23, 1915, a daughter of James and Elizabeth McAvoy. She married Justin F. Marzke and taught physical education in St. Johns, MI. Eunice was also the operations manager at her husbands's radio station. Justin passed away in 1970. She married Francis Schmidt, he died in 1986. She is survived by one son, Justin "Mac" and Rubye of Laurium; three sisters, Mabel Zilles of CA, Betty Schaefer and Frances Davies of Fl; a brother, Joseph McAvoy of AZ; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Dolores G. Krellwitz, 65, of Christmas, died Dec. 12, 1999. She was born on August 26, 1934, in Hancock to Benjamin and Martha (Heikkinen) Hocking. She married Arthur H. Krellwitz in 1952. Delores is survived by her husband; children, Steven and Beverly of Cedar, MI, Cahterine of Warren, and Christine and Kevin Lopez of Norfolk, VA; four grandchildren; step-brother, Mike Djerf of Munising; step sister, Lois Kennedy of Menominee.

Ruth L. B. (Peterson) Sharbatz, 82, of Calumet, died Dec 10, 1999, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born on April 25, 1917, in Kearsarge, the first child of Oscar A. and Mary (Ranta) Peterson. She married Edward Sharbatz in 1968, he died on Feb 22, 1999. Surviving are one sister, Ruby West of Jonesville, MI; two brothers, Reuben O. (Amelia) Peterson of Lake Linden, Raymond C. and Lynda Peterson of Hancock. Burial in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.

Ruth Margaret (Sorvala, Mattson) Johnson, 68, of Copper City, died on Dec. 10, 1999, at her home. She was born Jan 24, 1931 in Traprock Valley. She married Fred Johnson in 1950. She is survived by her husband; children, Linda and Charles Pappas, Carlene Fitzgerald, Gary and Debbie Johnson, and Judy Johnson; sisters, Eleanor and Ellen; brothers, Casper and Fran; seven grandchildren,and two great-grandchildren.

Chris Arthur Hiltunen, 44, of Ontonagon, died Dec. 11, 1999. He was born Nov. 6, 1955 in L'Anse to Edward and Donna Hiltunen. He grew up in Nisula and graduated from L'Anse High School in 1973. Chris was a mechanic for various companies, including Pettibone, Corp and Pestka Construction Co and was most recently self-employed at his own garage. Surviving are his daughter, Cassie of Alston; his mother of Hancock; two brothers, Tim of Los Angeles and Scott and Dana of Santa Monica, CA; a sister, Louis and Brian McDonald of Toronto; his former wife, Debbie of Alston; and his maternal grandmother, Ina Tepsa of Valrico, FL.

Albert "Abbie" Lehto, 81, of Hancock, died Dec. 11, 1999. He was born April 26, 1918, in Hancock, a son of Oscar and Ena (Tapani) Lehto. He had been employed for 30 years by the Gundlach Construction Company where he served as Superintendent of Construction for 25 years, retiring in 1983. In 1938, he married Faith Zerbst. He was the Skipper of the Hancock Sea Scouts and had received a 30 year pin in scouting. He also coached the Hancock High School Hockey Team for three years. Surviving are his wife; two sons, John and Mary Joan of Laurium, Robert and Linda of Plymouth; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lois and John Raymond of Livonia.

Jason M. Krans, 25, of Marquette, passed away Dec 14, 1999. He was born on Feb 16, 1974, in Gwinn, a son of James Krans and Sharon Koskiniemi. Surviving are his mother of Laurium; his father, of Tulsa, OK; a son, Nocholas Schwartz of Owasso, OK; a brother, Barry Krans of Laramie, WY; maternal grandfather, Arthur Hagman of Calumet; fraternal grandparents, Jack and Margaret Krans of Bootjack. Spring burial in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.

Lyman W. Swanson, 79, of Baraga died on Dec. 10, 1999. Arrangements by the Sirard Funeral Home in Baraga.

Ruth Margaret Johnson, 68, of Copper City died on December 10, 1999, at her home after a brief illness.

Wilfred Robert Kuru, 78, of Laurium, died on December 9, 1999. He was born November 17, 1921, in Oscar, MI, a son of Robert and Fiina Ollila Kuru. He was a veteran of WWII, having served with the US Army as an ambulance driver in France, Africa and the Phillipines. Surviving are a brother, William and Kathy of Fond du Lac, WI; five sisters, Mildred Allegra of Taylor, MI, Mary and Edward Grussi of Pahrump, NV, Mabel and James Sorvala of Livonia, Patricia and Curly Kolehmainen of Dollar Bay, Rita Trevethan of Calumet; an aunt, Elver Grant of Elo; 14 nieces and nephews.

Werneda M. Paavola, 74, of Mohawk, died Dec. 10, 1999. She was born on Sept. 4, 1925, a daughter of Alfred and Ina (Hiltunen) Jurmu. In 1948, she married Reuben J. Paavola in Detroit. Surviving are her husband; daughters, Linda Tulppo of Lake Linden, Sharon and Dale Marcotte of Hubbell, Donna Paavola of Wayne, MI; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a brother, Ardell and Ruth Jurmu of Hancock. Burial in the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek.

Jane S. Thomas, 83, of Laurium, died on December 10, 1999. She was born on May 24, 1916, in Kearsarge, a daughter of Nancy and Thomas Prophet. In 1941, she married J. Robert Thomas in Calumet. Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Leona and Ed Slade of Troy, MI, Roberta and Michael Raehl of St. Charles, IL; five grandchildren; a brother, Richard and Margaret Prophet of Lexington, KY; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Helen Robertson, 82, of Copper Harbor, a longtime Copper Harbor business owner, died on Dec. 10, 1999. She was born on June 24, 1917, in Lodi, WI. She married Charles Robertson in 1940. Helen operated the Bella Vista Resort in Copper harbor from 1951 until her retirement in 1977. Since that time, she and her husband operated a charter fishing business in Copper Harbor. He died in 1991. She is survived by a brother, Philip Habermann of Madison, WI.

Ronald J. Onkalo, 60, of Hurontown Location died Dec. 8, 1999. He was born Sept. 17, 1939, in Isle Royal #2 Location, a son of John Jacob and Fannie (Hiltunen) Onkalo. Ronald had worked for the Vickers Company in Detroit as a draftsman. Surviving are two sisters, Ethel and Emil Lappala of Portage Entry, Eleanor Wuopio of Laurium; two nephews and numerous cousins.

Robert Miller, 70, of Hurontown, passed away on December 9, 1999. He was born on April 13, 1929, in Hurontown, a son of George and Violet (Buckman) Miller. He is survived by a sister, Mildred Beauchamp of Hurontown, and two brothers, George of Paavola, John and Beatrice of Houghton.

Albert E. Maniko, 84, of Calumet, died Dec. 8, 1999. He was born May 8, 1915, in Calumet, the son of Henry and Elizabeth Maniko. he married Myra Grathowl in 1941. Albert is survived by two sons, Royce and Roseanne of Monroe, MI, Drian and Debbie of Harvey; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Albert Murn, 84, of Florida Location, died on Dec. 7, 1999. Albert was born Nov. 28, 1915 in Florida Location, a son of John and Agnes Murn. He married Florence Baril in 1940. He is survived by his wife; a son, Paul and JoAnne of Milwaukee; two daughters, Susan and Wally Olkkonen of Silver City, mary and Rick Angell of Orange Park, FL; four grandsons; three granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank Smrekar of Bootjack.

Karl "Ben" Dextrom, 71, of Sedar Bay, died on Dec. 6, 1999. He was born Feb. 13, 1928 in Mohawk, a son of Lempi and Benhart Dextrom. He married Lorraine Barri. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Leslie and Norbert Thyrion of Houghton, Debra and John Christopher of Calumet; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence and Walter Korri of Centennial Heights, and Helen Baril of Calumet.

Josephine Brozovich Bates, 73, of Dodgeville, passed away on Dec. 4th, at her home. Josie was born in Trimountain March 19, 1926, a daughter of Anton and Frances (Tomasic) Brozovich. She married Marion "Nick" Bates in 1945, he died in 1982. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ann Cassady of Houghton, JoAnn and Robert Kezele of Mohawk; two sons, Frank and Barbara of Hancock, Joseph of Chicago; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Johanna Plutt, 85, of Hancock, died on Dec. 4, 1999. She was born on Feb. 15, 1914, in Arcadian Location, a daughter of James and Frances (Ceretto) Gaspardo. She married Peter Plutt in 1937. He died on Dec. 21, 1983. Johanna is survived by two sons, James and Judy of Hartland, WI, John and Phyllis of Hancock; a brother, John Gaspardo of Delran, JN; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Gaspardo of St. Paul, MN; and an uncle, Joseph Ceretto of Hancock. Burial in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet

Josephine Brozovich Bates, 73, of Dodgeville, died Dec. 4, 1999. Josie was born in Dodgeville March 19, 1926, a daughter of Anton and Frances (Tomasic) Brozovich. In 1945, she married Marion (Nick) Bates. Nick died in 1982. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ann Cassady of Houghton, JoAnn and Robert Kezele of Mohawk; two sons, Frand and Barbara of Hancock, Joseph of Chicago; eight grandchildren, and great-grandson.

James A. Learmont, 70, of Hubbell, died Dec. 3rd, at Keweenaw Memorial Medical Center following a several month illness. He was born in Lake Linden July 5, 1929, a son of Oliver and Myrl (Goldsworthy) Learmont. He had been employed by Calumet and Hecla in the smelter and later worked for Torch Lake Township until he retired. Surviving are one brother, Thomas and Ruth of Cowen, MI; a sister, Nancy and James Dairo of Hubbell; several nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Jeffrey J. McClellan, 34, of Negaunee, died on Dec. 2, 1999, at home. He was born on Dec. 18, 1964, in Saginaw, MI, to James and Ann (Hitsman) McClellan and had been living in the Copper Country for several uyears. He worked in construction as a carpenter for the Carpenter's Union. Jeffrey is survived by his mother, Ann and Howard Fuller of Bridgeport; his father, James and Helen of Saginaw; a sister Lori McClellan of Saginaw; his grandmother, LaVerne McClellan of FL; and grandfather, Ervin McClellan of Saginaw.

Lena Focault Duckett, 93, of Baraga, passed away on Dec. 2, 1999. She was born June 26, 1906, a daughter of Fabien and Febrone (Therien) Vizina. She married Lawrence Foucault in 1923. Lawrence died in 1966. Later she married Fred Duckett who also preceded her in death. She is survived by a son, Frank and Ruth Foucault of Marquette; two daughters, Margaret and Dr. Abraham Rudnick of Las Vegas, Eileen White of Royal Oak; 20 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Burial in the Baraga Cemetery.

Rose Marie (Tyosh) Cadeau, 65, of Baraga, died on Dec. 1, 1999, at her home. She was born April 4, 1934, in Zeba, a daughter of David and Harriet (Barbano) Tyosh. She married Francis J. Cadeau in 1951. She is survived by her husband, a son, Dale and Sandra Cadeau of Kenosha, WI; five daughters, Judy and Paul Abbott of L'Anse, Karen and Robert Andersen of Baraga; twins, Denise Cadeau of McHenry, IL and Debra and Charles Zurek of Two Rivers, WI, Michelle and Danny Hoggard of Crystal Lake, IL; a sister, Frances Kishketog og Green Bay; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Burial in the Indian Pinery Cemetery.
