Surviving are her husband, Everett; children, Robert and Beverly Boyce, Lonna Ipema, and Vaughn and Dawn VandenBrink, all of Holland; mother, Nellie Jipping; eight grandchildren; sisters, Shirley and Harold Knoll, and Alyce and Dale Reimink, all of Holland; in-laws, Kathy Kloeppel, Clark and Richard Scheerhorn, Hermina and Leon Witteveen, and Dorothy and Gene Gort, all of Holland; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Roland Louis Squire, 83, of Fennville, died Sunday, June 6, 1999. Born in Manistee, he was a barber in Fennville from 1960 to 1990. He also was a member of the Fennville Rod and Gun Club. Surviving are his wife, Florence of Fennville; children, Gregg and Valerie Squire of Evergreen, Colo., Gary and Marie Squire, Bob and Diane Squire, Mike and Elaine Squire, Joan and Bob Thomas, and Pat and Al Johnson, all of Fennville, and Mary and Ron Alexander of Ann Arbor; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Margaret Despres of Ada. Surviving are her sister, Anna Prins; brother, Cecil and Marian Zeinstra; brothers-in-law, Paul Mahaffey and Sheriff Mahaffey; sisters-in-law, Ruby Arntz and Ezetta Phillips; nieces and nephews. GRAND HAVEN -- Dorthy E. DenHerder, 87, of Nunica died Thursday, May 6, 1999. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Pennsylvania and taught for the Conemaugh, Pa., Public Schools until moving to Grand Haven in 1943. She was a member of Spring Lake Presbyterian Church and was very active with the Mary Free Bed Guild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred DenHerder in 1996. Surviving are her children, Elizabeth and Pat Dornbos of Muskegon, and Jon and Diane DenHerder of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and one grandchild. Robert Grindler, 72
Robert C. Grindler, 72, of Holland and formerly of Grand Haven, died Tuesday, June 8, 1999. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII. He retired from Consumers Power Co. in 1988 after many years of service. He moved to Holland in 1992. He was a member of BPO Elks USA-Holland Lodge No. 1315, a former member of the Grand Haven Elks and a member of Tri-Cities Supervisor Organization. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Grindler, in 1989; a sister, Margaret O'Farrell and a brother, Arthur Grindler. He is survived by his children, Janice and Ronald Streng, and Robert Grindler, all of Holland; three grandchildren; sisters, Alice and Don Schroeder, and Anne Rexer, all of Bay City; and several nieces and nephews. He served as president of the Holland Board of Realtors and was Realtor of the Year in 1975. He is survived by his wife, Frances; children, Carmen and Elizabeth Seats of DeWitt, Carroll and Marilyn Seats of Kalamazoo, and Melanie and Karl Kaake of Holland; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lester and Margaret Seats of Spring Hill, Fla., William and Agnes Aman of Wyoming, and Robert and Doris Aman of Grand Rapids. He had been employed as a supervisor for Western Foundry in Holland until his retirement in 1995. He was also a supervisor for National Motors until its closing. He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice. He is survived by his wife, Deloris; children, Neil Jr. and Nancy Sutton of Lacota, Mark Sutton of Pullman, Kevin Sutton of South Haven; and five grandchildren. He worked for many years with Michigan Cottage Cheese and General Mills. He and his wife, Sally, owned and operated Fenn Again Restaurant in Fennville, Wieland's Flower Shop and the Water Street Place Mall Antiques Etc. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Maynard, Walter, Jack, Ray, Elsie and Rena. He was a member of North Holland Reformed Church where he served as an elder for 40 years. He was a Sunday School teacher, vice president of the Consistory and Past Christian Endeavor Leader. He was preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta, in 1970. Surviving are his daughter, Marcia and David Lamar of Holland; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several in-laws, nieces and nephews. Private graveside services will be held. George Paul Phelps, 71, of Apollo Beach, Fla., formerly of Holland, died Saturday, June 5, 1999, in Tampa, Fla. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the occupation of Japan. He was a retired project superintendent for Townsend and Bottum Inc. of Ann Arbor. His career spanned more than 40 years. He was instrumental in the building of the James H. Campbell complex in Port Sheldon for Consumers Power Co. and worked there for 10 years. He was a member of the Building Trades Union. He is survived by his wife, Alice of Apollo Beach, Fla.; children, Keith and Linda Phelps of Brighton, Kathy and James Vagt of Park Forest, Ill., and Kay and David Mast of Holland; sister, Betty and James Howell of Williamsport, Ohio; step-mother, Dorothy Wardell Phelps of Circleville, Ohio; and eight grandchildren. Walter P. McNeal, 76
Walter P. McNeal, 76, of Holland, died Thursday, June 17, 1999, at his home. Born and raised in Easton, Maine, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He moved to Holland in 1955 and was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and its choir, and served on the vestry. He was employed by General Electric for 38 years and was a member of the DAV. Surviving are his wife, Tish; children, Jan and Allen Isaac of Farewell, Sue and Larry Sal of Hamilton, Steve and Shellie McNeal of Holland, Dave and Melinda McNeal of Fennville; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Edward McNeal of Mapleton, Maine; sister, Patricia McNeal of Holyoke, Mass.; sisters- and brother-in-law, Rachel Duncan of Dahlgren, Ill., and George and Iris Duncan of Belle Rive, Ill.; nieces, nephew and cousins. She was a member of Central Park Reformed Church and the Eunice Circle, and was employed for many years at Holland Public Schools and with Walters Nursery. She was preceded in death by her husband Egbert in 1996. She is survived by her children, Rosemarie and Delbert Bos, Terry and Karen Brink, all of Holland, and Jack Brink of Longmont, Colo.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Margaret Schurman of Zeeland, Esther and Harris De Neff, and Albert and Donna Wiegerink, all of Holland; several nieces, nephews and cousins. FENNVILLE -- Leslie Claude Seavey, 87, of South Haven, died Sunday, June 20, 1999. He retired as a machinist for Pullman Industries and was a life member of the National Rifle Association. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in World War II. His wife, Marguerite, preceded him in death in 1992. Surviving are his sister-in-law, Barbara Maxwell of South Haven; and niece and nephew, Bud and Barb Coulter of South Haven. SOUTH HAVEN -- Theodore S. Fenrich, 54, of Grand Junction, died Tuesday, June 15, 1999, in South Haven Community Hospital. Born in Hammond, Ind., the son of Arthur and Gerta Fenrich, he retired from G.T.E. and was a veteran serving in the Vietnam War era. A brother, Francis Fenrich, preceded him in death. Robert E. Kimball, 76
Robert Emmett Kimball, 76, of Holland, died Monday, June 21, 1999, at his home. Born in Chicago, he was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in World War II. He moved to Laketown in 1949 where he resided for 30 years. Retired for 10 years, he had been employed for 40 years as a locksmith, most recently by Holland Lock and Safe. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Aurea; children, Kevin and Tara Kimball of Saugatuck, Michael and Vicky Kimball, Robert Kimball, James Kimball, Barbara and Jamie Andrews, all of Holland, and Mary Kimball-Smith of Wyoming; eight grandchildren; sister, Nina Smallwood of Cross Village; sisters-in-law, Glenna Kimball of Cross Village, and Mary Shields of Chicago; nieces, nephews and cousins. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Edward E. Hafkemeyer,79, of Knoxville, died June 14, 1999. The son of Edward and Helen Hafkemeyer, he graduated from Holland High School in 1938 and Michigan Technological University in 1942. He retired from GE Medical Systems in Wisconsin and moved to Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne; and his second wife. Surviving are his children Ruth MacDonald of Brighton, Tenn., and Vicki Anderson of Stevens Point, Wis.; two granddaughters and three great-granddaughters. Rollie W. Paulson, 84
Rollie William Paulson, 84, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, in a local nursing home. Born and raised in northern Michigan, he resided in Grand Rapids most of his life before retiring to Belleview, Fla. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann, in 1997; and by a son Robert, his wife Mary Jane, and three children in 1982. Surviving are his children, Joanne and Mike Coyle of Belleview, Fla.; and Jim and Evonne Paulson of Holland; brother, Don and Joyce Paulson of Belleview, Fla; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Dale Bussis, 71
HOPEWELL, N.J. -- Dale Bussis, 71, died May 24, 1999, in Managua, Nicaragua. Born in Holland, the son of Gerrit and Jennie Bussis, he was a longtime Hopewell, N.J. area resident before moving to Managua in 1998. He was ordained as a minister by the Presbytery of Philadelphia, and taught at Princeton Theological Seminary for 10 years. He also worked for the Institute for Education Development and Educational Testing Service. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, serving as an international partner. He was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church where he served as elder. He received degrees from Calvin College, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Columbia University School of Education. His wife, Anne, preceded him in death. Surviving are a sister, Arlene and Orlo Barton of Holland; brothers-in-law, Doug Payne of Holland, and Lester Zwiers of Peru, Ind.; nieces and nephews. A memorial service took place June 11 in Hopewell Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to East Trenton Center, 601 N. Born in Clare County, the son of George and Ethyl Haring, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. He was employed by General Motors, retiring after 38 years of employment. He was a life-member of the Clare VFW.
