CHICAGOAN OF 'LOST BATTALION' BADLY WOUNDED.

Lieut. Herbert F. Grobe Graduate of Fort Sheridan.

A Chicago member of Maj. Charles W. Whittlesey's "Lost Battalion" --
the gallant band of Yankees which held out for five days and nights
when cut off by the Germans in the heart of the Argonne forest and
when asked to surrender told the enemy to "Go to hell" -- was
reported in yesterday's casualty list as wounded severely.

He is Lieut. Herbert F. Grobe of 761 Pine avenue. He was with
Company F. Three Hundred and Eighth infantry. He was commissioned
at the second officers' training camp at Fort Sheridan. He was
formerly employed in the secretary's office of the Chicago and
Northwestern railroad. A brother, Newton W. Grobe of the Three
Hundred and Fourth cavalary machine gun company, is now home on
furlough.

Lieut. Archie M. Van Horn, whose name was recently carried in the
Official casualty list as wounded, degree undetermined, was formerly
and employe of THE TRIBUNE editorial department. He first joined the
One Hundred and Twenty-second field artillery, in which he won his
commission, and was later transferred to an infantry regiment, with
which he went to France.

Lieut. Frank T. Driscoll died of pneumonia at Camp Grant. He was
formerly in the employ of the Western Electric company and made his
home at 3006 Fillmore street.

Relatives report that Private William A. Kovarik was wounded
severely and gassed Nov. 11. He is with Company D. Fifty-fifth
infantry. His home is at 3008 South Springfield avenue.
