TWENTY YEARS AGO
December, 1920
Mrs. John H. Boston died at her home southeast of this city, Dec. 18, aged 73. She was the mother of seven children, six of whom survived her.

Charlotte Fletcher, sister of the late Senator John Fletcher, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Sept 25, 1847 and departed this life Dec. 18, 1920. While still a child of tender years she was brought by her parents to Illinois, where she has since resided.
She was married
to John H. Boston on March 19, 1868, at the old parsonage at Middle Creek. They at once commenced housekeeping on the old farm five and one-half miles southeast of Carthage, which has been their home continuously until her death.
Mr. and Mrs. Boston were the parents of seven children: William, of near Carthage; Mahala, wife of Ben Timberlake of Kansas; Lottie, wife of Cay Tucker of California; Lizzie, wife of Harve Waggoner of Carthage; Sylvester and Fred of near Carthage; Otha, twin brother of Lottie, died in childhood. Nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren; one sister survives, Mrs. Anna Doran of Carbondale, Kansas.
Mrs. Boston united with the Elm Tree M. E. Church when but a child. She led a quiet Christian life, always attending church when her health would permit.
The funeral services were held at the M. E. Church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. W. W. Bollinger officiating. Burial at Moss Ridge.

Mrs. Marvin E. Boston passed away at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Staffinger of this city on the 17th inst., of consumption, aged 28 years, 11 months and 18 days. Funeral services were held at the residence Sunday at 2:20 p.m. followed by interment in Moss Ridge. Deceased was a member of the Christian Church and her life was an exemplification of true Christianity. For the past several years her health has been delicate yet she bore her sufferings patiently. Surviving her are her husband, father and mother and two sisters, Mrs. Geo. Owen and Miss Bertha Staffinger.

Mrs. Dora F. Boston
Dora F. Staffinger was born near Basco, Ill., October 8, 1874, and died at her home in Carthage September 17, 1903, where she had resided for the past ten or twelve years. When about 15 years of age she gave her heart to her Master, uniting with the M. E. Church in Bentley.
On October 1, 1890, she was united in marriage to Marvin Boston, by the pastor under whose ministry she was led to identify herself with the followers of Christ. Her membership was transferred to the Christian church at Carthage, at the time of her husband's conversion in 1890. During the remaining years of her life she continued true to her earlier convictions of christianity, and had been a faithfull follower of the Lowly Nazarine, believing in the promises of God and the Christ, who said: "In my Father's house are many mansions; I go to prepare a place for you."
Mrs. Boston had been in failing health for a number of years, the past few months being filled with great suffering, yet born with patience and forbearance. She leaves to mourn her departure a husband, father, mother and two sisters, besides a number of relatives and friends.
While our hearts are torn and bleeding, because we shall miss her kindness and sympathy, yet we realize with Paul, that "to be with Christ is far better." Two sisters have lately preceded her to that beyond, who are awaiting with "beautiful beckoning hands" to receive her to her immortal home. Only a few more tears, only a few more sighs, only a few more short years and we shall be welcomed by her, who is not dead but gone before.
A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
God in His wisdom has recalled
The boon His love had given;
And though the body slumbers now,
The soul is safe in heaven,
Call not back the dear departed,
Anchored safe where storms are o'er;
On the border land we left her,
Soon to meet and part no more.
Far beyond this world of changes,
Far beyond this world of care,
We shall find our missing loved one,
In our Father's mansion fair,
Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep,
From which none ever wake to weep;
Safe in the arms of Jesus,
Safe on His gentle breast.

BENTLEY.
Another cause for happiness was the pretty home wedding of two of our very best young people Thanksgiving day, Thursday, Nov. 25th. The contracting parties were Mr. Lester Frank Frazee, only son of Elder and Mrs. L. E. Frazee of our village, and Miss Myrtle Fern Boston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boston southeast of Carthage, at the bride’s home promptly at high noon the bridal couple descended the stairway to the wedding march played by Mrs. R. E. Coffman of Hannibal, Mo., sister of the groom, and took their places in the parlor, unattended. Elder L. E. Frazee, the groom’s father read the impressive service. The lovely bride was beautiful in her wedding gown of white chiffon voil trimmed in lace. She carried bride’s roses.
The rooms of the Boston home were attractive in their decorations of pink and white the color scheme was carried out in the wedding menu. Only relatives attended with the exception of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Richards of St. Marys, close friends of the bridal pair.
The groom is one of our best boys. He graduated from Bentley public school later attending Carthage high school, also Carthage college academy. Lester won fame as an athlete, one of the best, was honored with a “C.” He is an excellent young man.
The bride is an accomplished and talented young lady, has lived near us all her life where she has grown into beautiful womanhood and is loved by all her acquaintances.
They left for St. Louis Friday morning on a wedding trip. They will be home to their friends at Bentley, Ill., after Dec. 1st. We join many friends in extending congratulations, and will add,
Keep sweet, keep sweet,
It matters not what troubles you may
meet,
For in the sunshine or the rain,
All will come out right again,
If you’ll only just keep sweet.

Fern Frazee
KEOKUK, Iowa - Fern Frazee, 94, of Fremont, Neb., formerly of Keokuk, died at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday (Jan.10, 1990) in Dodge County Memorial Hospital in Fremont.
Mrs. Frazee was born July 17, 1895, in Hancock County, Ill., a daughter of Charles and Rowena Yetter Boston. She married
Lester F. Frazee Nov.25, 1915, in Carthage, Ill. He died April 17, 1958.
A longtime resident of Keokuk, Mrs. Frazee moved to Nebraska 15 years ago. She was member of First Baptist Church and the church's Friendship Class and sewing group. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Joan Frazee of Fremont; six grandchildren; 10 great-grand-children; and a sister, Lulu White of Carthage.
Mrs. Frazee was preceded in death by a son, Robert L; two brothers, Ernest and Gay; and three sisters, May, Myrna and Goldie.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk by the Rev. Ed Haun. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery at Keokuk.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 tonight in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or the American Heart Association.

FREIDA BOSTON
Feb. 3, 1916 - Jan. 10, 1994
Freida Boston, 77, of Bowen, died Monday, Jan. 10, in Grandview Manor at Camp Point.
She was born Feb. 3, 1916, in rural Bowen, the daughter of Mele and Lucretia Geoffrey. She married
John Howard Boston at Carthage, June 18, 1936. He survives.
She is also survived by two nieces, Mrs. Jack (Bonnie) Smith of Rockford and Mrs. Dorothy Barnhill of Quincy.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
She was a member of the Christian Church at Bowen since 1951 and was a graduate of Augusta High School. She enjoyed embroidery and needlework.
Funeral services were held Thursday in the LamPorte Funeral Home of Carthage with the Rev. Charles Coonce officiating. Burial was held in the Woodlawn cemetery at Augusta.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
