Hoverson, Velma age 90 of Baldwin died Monday April 1, 2002.

Velma Theresa Hoverson, age 90 of Baldwin, died Monday April 1, 2002 at Baldwin Care Center. Velma was born on April 17, 1911 in Denmark, Iowa; the daughter of Charles and Abbie (Murphy) Boecker. She attended school at the country school in Denmark. She graduated from the Burlington High School in 1928. On February 5, 1930, she was united in marriage to Sidney Eli Hoverson. Together they farmed beef, hog, and chickens. Initially, they farmed in the Burlington – Ft. Madison Iowa area prior to farming in Mt. Pleasant for a short time. In 1954, they made their home south of Baldwin. Although she was a homemaker, she always lent a helping hand on the farm. She hauled grain to the elevators, picked rocks from the fields, or helped with the animals. She was a talented seamstress. She braided rugs, sewed hot pad holders, and made quilts for her family and friends. Her gardens grew prized vegetables and fruits. Anyone whom ate at her house never walked away hungry, as she fed them well. Velma was a dedicated caretaker of her daughter Crystal as she always placed her needs before her own. She also received the greatest pleasure spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also an active member of the Peace Lutheran Church and the Homemaker’s 63 Club. She is survived by her daughter Crystal of Baldwin, daughter-in-law Jeanie Hoverson of Baldwin, grandchildren Brian (Wendy) Hoverson of Maplewood, MN., Teresa Viessman of Stillwater, MN., Terrill (Greg) Florcyk of Baldwin, great grandchildren Andy and Aaron Hoverson, Eric and Kevin Viessman, and Emma Florcyk. She is preceded in death by her husband Sidney in 1977, infant son Robert in 1931, son Baldwin Chief of Police Clinton in 1990, brother glen Boecker, and sister Lorraine Boecker. Funeral service for Velma Hoverson was 11AM Thursday April 4, 2002 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Baldwin. Pastor John Hanson officiated. Organist Julie Hanson accompanied vocalist Faye Bergin. Burial was in the church cemetery with casketbearers being Bob Hansen, Paul Ramberg, Lance Jensen, Richard Walton, Rick Walton, Randy Thoen. Visitation was held on Wednesday at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home. Memorials preferred. Funeral services were entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin.

Olsen, Richard Jr., age 39 of Houlton died Friday, March 29.

Richard A. Olsen, Jr., 39, passed away Friday March 29, 2002 at the Lakeview Hospital, Stillwater, MN, after a courageous 16 month battle with cancer. Richard was born April 21, 1962 in Beloit, WI the son of Richard A. and Sharron (Smiley) Olsen, Sr. He attended public school in Beloit, WI until 1975. He graduated with Honors from New Richmond High School in 1980, and graduated with Honors from WITC, in 1981. Richard was a business manager with Weighrite Scale Company in Somerset, WI up until the time of his illness. Better known as the “Hockey Dad” he was very active with his son’s hockey program. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing and camping. Survivors are his children Nicholas and Michael; parents Richard, Sr and Sharron Olsen; sisters Cindy (Kevin) Hanamann of Holmen, WI Jennifer Wasowicz of New Richmond, WI; nieces and nephews Tasha, Callee and Konnor Hanamann, Andrew Wasowicz and special friend Lori Dunaway and her children Dana, Heather and Gavin. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Elmer and Margie Olsen; maternal grandfather Donald Smiley, Sr. Memorial service will be 11:30 AM, Monday April 1, 2002 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson with Pastor Kuhlman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred. Richard was a loving, caring father, son, brother, grandson and uncle. Services are entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, Hudson, WI.

Lee, Bernard Francis, Jr., 77, of Lakeland, MN died Tuesday March 26, 2002.

Lee, Bernard Francis, Jr., 77, of Lakeland, MN passed away at his home on Tuesday March 26, 2002. Bernard was born July 26, 1924 St. Paul, MN, the son of Dr.’s Bernard F. and Lucille (Radle)Lee, Sr. He attended St. Thomas Military Academy, Wright Junior College, Kent College of Law and university of Chicago, Honorary Doctorate of Juris Prudence. He was a decorated officer during WWII, Captain, 63rd Infantry Division, 254 Regiment, 1st Battalion, Company B. Bernard was an active member of the Rotary International, in Mt. Prospect, IL, the American Legion, Board Member of Northwest Suburban YMCA, Suburban Hospital, St. Francis of Assisi, he also served as Commissioner in Wood Dale, IL in 1955, volunteered as a fireman in Wood Dale, Auditor and Assessor for Elk Grove Village, IL, Lakeland City Planning Committee, chair, and Boy Scout Leader. He acquired and held his Broker and Real Estate License, he was an accomplished Gardner, craftsman, earning his certificate as a woodworker in 1999, Boundry Water Commission member, a true steward of the St. Croix River. Bernard was Vice President for Personnel and Labor Relations, EKCO Products, Private Legal Practice, Pinkerton Security and Census Survey Team for CA and MN. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Lillian (Petersen); son Kevin; brothers Bob, Jim and Jack Lee. Survivors are his daughters Sandra (Richard) Meyer, Sharon Lee, Susan Lee (Sonny Cytrynbaum); grandchildren Matthew Meyer, Erik and Evan Umenhofer, Glenna Cytrynbaum, Joe Cytrynbaum (Erin Flynn), Pam Cytrynbaum (Jeff Sklansky); great-grandchild Leah Sklansky; brothers Tom Lee and Richard Lee. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday 30, 2002, St. Francis of Assissi Catholic Church, in Lakeland, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeland, MN. Memorials are preferred for the families wishes to the Citizens State Bank of Hudson, WI. Services are entrusted to O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, WI, 715-386-3725.

Hop, John of Baldwin Died March 25, 2002

John Albert Hop, 94, passed away Monday evening March 25, 2002 at the Baldwin Care Center. John was born February 2, 1908, in Baldwin, Wisconsin, the son of Garrit and Dora (Grotenhuis) Hop. He attended Baldwin Christian School. On June 14, 1933 he married Clara Sittlow at her parent’s home in East Baldwin. John was a dairy and beef farmer north of Baldwin. John was better known to those as a gifted carpenter. He worked for local construction companies such as Bill Fern Construction, B.J. Somsen Construction, Jack Kotts Construction and built many homes in Baldwin with his brother George Hop. John enjoyed his work in the church as an elder, deacon, and Sunday school teacher. His special interest was fishing-pan fish, woodworking, finishing houses and was an honorary member of Indianhead Pulled Hereford Hall of Fame. He also thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship with friends over coffee at Barks Bakery in Baldwin. Survivors are his wife Clara, son David Hop of Tucson, AZ; six grandchildren Jody Hop, Carrie Cookman, Stephen Hop, Tammy Wilcox, James Schwartz, John Schwartz; five great-grandchildren Miranda, Damarus and Christopher Wilcox, William Cookman, Taylor Hop; brother George Hop of Baldwin, WI; sister Aletta (Myron) Hesselink of Hammond, WI; daughter-in-law Carol Hop of Stillwater, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Glenda Brunsell, brothers Gerald and Harry, brother Burton in infancy, Sisters Gladys Olson, Magdalene Blok, and Henrietta Vier. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Thursday March 28, 2002 at the First Reformed Church in Baldwin with Reverend Leon D. Draayer officiating. Organist Jule Hudson accompanied special music by Paul Lokker, Dr. Earl Jacot, Kenneth Klanderman, and Greg Zwald. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6 until 8PM at the O’Connell Family funeral Home in Baldwin and one hour prior to service time at the church on Thursday. Burial at the Baldwin Cemetery. Casketbearers are be Dale Frederick, Kenneth Klanderman, Francis Dees, Bernard Lewis. Memorials preferred. Funeral service was entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin.

JOHNSON, MARJORIE OF WOODVILLE DIED MARCH 24, 2002

Marjorie Lovine Johnson, age 80 of Woodville, died Sunday afternoon, March 24, 2002 at the Parkview Nursing Home in Woodville where she has resided for the past several years. Marjorie was born on June 5, 1921 in Baldwin, Wisconsin; the daughter of William and Ida (Windahl) Ferg. She attended Birchwood country school outside of Woodville. On March 21, 1943, she was united in marriage to Arthur Edmund Johnson in Stillwater, Minnesota. This union would be blessed with five children; Lovine, Sylvia, Linda, Audrey, and Alan. The couple farmed north of Woodville for many years. Arthur would precede her in death in 1971. Following this, she worked for a short time in New Richmond for Friday Canning. Marjorie had a gift for gardening. Her flower and vegetable gardens were well maintained. She enjoyed canning, freezing, or simply having vegetables or fruits from the garden for dinner. She also braided rugs and sewed quilts for the house or family. She was also a past member of the local Homemaker’s Club. She enjoyed taking care of her ponies. She cherished her family and children as they were very important to her. Marjorie is survived by her children Lovine (Clair) Kistner of Menomonie, Sylvia (Jeff Hawkins) Kiesow of Glenwood City, Linda (Kevin) Anderson of Hudson, Alan Johnson of Woodville, grandchildren Tammy (Mike) Olson, Sally (Joshua) Eddy, Rick (Kim) Kistner, Jeremy Hawkins, Tyler Anderson, great grandchildren Marisa Olson, Ariana Kistner, and Aunt Inger Windahl of Hammond. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Arthur in 1971, daughter Audrey in 1981, and infant brother. Funeral service for Marjorie Johnson will be 2PM Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin. Officiating is Pastor Keith Anderson from the Zion Lutheran Church in Woodville. Visitation will be from 12-2 PM on Wednesday. Burial is in the Baldwin cemetery with active casketbearers being Clair Kistner, Kevin Anderson, Jeff Hawkins, Rick Kistner, Mike Olson, Joshua Eddy. Gerald Strobush, David Bunge, Walt Zimmerman and Eugene Zimmerman serve as honorary casketbearers. Memorials preferred.

GUNDERSON, ROBERT AGE 61 OF SOMERSET DIED WED. MARCH 20, 2002

Robert “Bob” Gunderson, age 61 of Somerset and St. Croix County Board Supervisor, died Wednesday March 20, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Bob was born December 24, 1940 in Albert Lea Minnesota to Arthur and Helen (Wangen) Gunderson. Bob attended grade and High school in Albert Lea, and Austin Community College and later graduated from St. Olaf College with a degree in psychology. Bob was active in ROTC in college as well as the theater. In May 1982 Bob married Denise Flicker in Somerset WI. Bob worked for the Anderson Windows Corporation before his retirement in 1996. Bob loved life and his community. Bob served as Supervisor for the St. Croix County Board, was active in theater in College raised Dog Sled teams in Somerset, and was an avid collector of old tractors and school bells. Bob was also very interested in his Scottish clan heritage and collecting kilts. Bob’s father preceded him in death in 1982. Those left to celebrate Bob’s life and legacy are his loving wife Denise, daughters Ania and Laura and son Ryan Gunderson, all of Somerset, WI, mother Helen Gunderson-Aanerud of Albert Lea, MN, and sister Phyllis Neilsen of Colorado Springs CO. Funeral Service for Bob Gunderson will be 11AM Saturday, March 23 at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Pastor Linda Gunderson will officiate with Wendy Moszer as organist. Burial is in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4 until 8PM at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Active casket bearers are Roger Wangen, Eugene Wangen Lynn Cook, Wayne bottolfson, Paul Romer, and Ryan Gunderson. Services were entrusted to the O’Connell Funeral Home in Hudson 715-386-3725.

Aarsvold, Pastor Milton age 75 of Baldwin died Monday evening, March 18.

Reverend Milton A. Aarsvold, 75, of Baldwin, WI, passed away Monday, March 18, 2002, at the River Falls Area Hospital, River Falls, WI. Reverend Aarsvold was born February 26, 1927 in Kasson, MN, to Joseph and Clara (Gullickson) Aarsvold. He was baptized April 17, 1927, and confirmed May 11, 1941; both ceremonies took place at South Zumbro Lutheran Church, Kasson, MN. Reverend Aarsvold graduated from Kasson High School in 1944;served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1947; and graduated from St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN, in 1951. Reverend Aarsvold married Dorothy Mae Eastvold at South Zumbro Lutheran on May 18, 1952. Reverend Aarsvold’s professional ministerial work started May 16, 1954, when he completed the curriculum for ministry at Luther Theological Seminary, St. Paul, MN, and was ordained a Lutheran minister in a ceremony at South Zumbro Lutheran. Reverend Aarsvold was active in the ministry for more than 45 years. He served as parish pastor at Grace, East Moe, and West Moe Lutheran Churches in Brandon, MN (1954-1960); as parish pastor at Plentywood, Highland, Antelope Creek, and Faith Lutheran Churches in Plentywood, Outlook, Antelope, and Wanso, MT (1961-1973), respectively; as pastor at Peace Lutheran Church in Baldwin, WI (1973-1992); and as Associate Pastor at Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls, WI (1993-2000). Reverend Aarsvold was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Clara (Gullickson) Aarsvold, his brother Robert, his twin brother Milfred, a granddaughter Taylor Aarsvold, and his brothers-in-law Leslie, Jason, and Alfred Eastvold. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Mae (Eastvold) Aarsvold; five children (spouses) Matthew (Laurel) Aarsvold of Laguna Beach, CA, John Aarsvold of Decatur, GA, Timothy (Carolyn) Aarsvold of Alexandria, MN, Naomi (Thomas) Fleming of Alexandria, MN, and Paul (Connie) Aarsvold of Hamel, MN; nine grandchildren Michael, David, Andrew, Megan, Stacie, Carissa, and Nathan Aarsvold, and Joseph and Sean Fleming; two brothers Wallace (Lorraine) Aarsvold and Donald (Lillian) Aarsvold of Kasson, MN; five sisters-in-law Charlotte Aarsvold (wife of Milfred) of Kasson, MN, Norma Aarsvold (wife of Robert) of Chatfield, MN, Margaret Eastvold (wife of Leslie) of Rochester, MN, Gladine Eastvold (wife of Jason) of Leroy, MN, LaRae Eastvold (wife of Alfred) of Leroy, MN. Reverend Aarsvold was a committed, loving, cherished, and loved, son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, pastor, and friend. He was an avid and accomplished gardener, woodworker, fisherman, and group vocalist. A memorial service for Reverend Aarsvold will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 23, 2002, at Peace Lutheran Church, Baldwin, WI. Reverend John R. Hanson of Peace and Reverend Bill Montgomery of Ezekiel Lutheran Church, River Falls, WI, will officiate. Visitation at Peace will be from 8:30 to 10:00 AM on March 23. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM, Saturday, March 23, 2002, at South Zumbro Lutheran Church, Kasson, MN. Reverend Mark Schwartz of South Zumbro and Reverend Vernon E. Anderson, Retired Bishop of the Northern Wisconsin District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) will officiate. Visitation at South Zumbro will be from 1:30 to 2:30 PM on March 23. Burial will be in the South Zumbro cemetery immediately following the 2:30 service. Funeral services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin, Wisconsin.

Sachsenmaier, August "Gus" Jr., age 67 of Wilson died suddenly June 6, 2002.

August "Gus" Sachsenmaier Jr., age 67 of Wilson died suddenly June 6, 2002 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul following an apparent heart attack. August is survived by his wife Darlene and children Scott, Chet, Carol, Cheryl, 10 grandchildren, siblings Tim, Jack, Mary, Maurice, and Mike. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11AM Tuesday, June 11, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hammond. Burial will be in the St. Bridget's cemetery in Wilson. Visitation will be from 10AM until 12 (Noon) on Tuesday at the church prior to the mass. Funeral services entrusted to the OConnell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin 684-3434.

Goosens, Stacy age 32 died June 5, 2002

Stacy Rae Goosens, age 32 of Glenwood City, formerly of Hudson died suddenly Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at the Baldwin Area Medical Center as a result of a car accident. Stacy was born on October 30, 1969 in St. Paul, MN.; the daughter of David and Cheryl (Kempel) Anderson. She received her elementary school in Hudson and high school in Glenwood City. Her hobbies included rock collecting. She is survived by her children, Shane Allen and Heather Rae, parents Cheryl (Vernon) Towner of Hudson, sisters Gerilyn (Jim) Foster of Maplewood, MN., Caset Larson of Baldwin-Woodville, Tania Larson of Hudson, brother Christopher Anerson of Pearl Harboe, Hawaii, grandfather Emauel Kempel of No. Dakota, grandmother Elaine Towner, as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father David Anderson and grandmother Myrtle Kempel. Funeral service for Stacy Goosens will be 12:00PM Saturday, June 8, 2002 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Burial will be in North Dakota. Visitation will be two hours prior to (10:00AM to 12:00PM) prior to the service at O’Connell’s. Memorials preferred.

Richmond, Terry age 42 of Hudson died Saturday June 1, 2002 at his home .

Terrance "Terry" Richmond age 42 of Hudson died Saturday June 1, 2002 at his home as a result of a fire. Terry was born on October 5, 1960 in England; the son of Edward and Sylvia (Pitts) Richmond. Terry was emplyed for Woolford Engineering of Hudson. Funeral services will be held in England. Arrangements are with the OConnell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, WI. 715-386-3725

Bertha Elizabeth Skluzacek age 80 of Lakeland, MN was unexpectedly called home on June 1, 2002. Bertha was born May 17, 1922 the daughter of Frank and Isabel (Weber) Schlimgen. She attended grade school in Dimock, South Dakota and High School in Parkston South Dakota. She attended Mitchell Business College. On Nov. 5, 1955 she was united in marriage to William Richard Skluzacek. This marriage was blessed with four children. She was a co-owner of Kasco Marine and she enjoyed bridge club. Bertha Skluzacek is survived by her devoted husband of William of 46 years, and children Sandra (Greg) Ferrian, Karen (Joe) Riley, Richard (Joyce) Skluzacek, and Paul (Joan) Skluzacek, 12 grandchildren, Colin, Ryan, Sean, Kelly, Alanna, Marisa, Jacob, Sarah, Amy, David, Nicholas, & Blake, and 1 great-grandchild, Robert, sister Agnes Heinz, and many nieces & nephews. Mass of Christian Burial, 11AM Thurs. June 6, St. Francis of Assisi in Lake St. Croix Beach, MN. Interment will be in the Fort Snelling National cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation Wed. June 5th from 4:00-8:00pm. at the church and one hour prior to service time on Thursday. Memorials are preferred to The St. Francis of Assisi Church Building fund or Minnesota Epilepsy Foundation. Services were entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, WI.
