Wilbur, Guy David, age 80, died Sunday May 25, 2003.

Guy David Wilbur, age 80, of rural Roberts died Sunday May 25, 2003 in the Hudson Hospital. Guy was born in Jackson County, MN on August 5, 1922 the son of Rueben W. and Mable (Johnson) Wilbur. He served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sgt. in the South Pacific from January of 1945 thru September of 1947. Guy married the former Evelyn Louise Cochran on May 31st., 1946, she preceded him in death in 1992. A mechanic all his life he worked for various businesses; Lunds of River Falls, Hudson Ford Garage, Roberts Implement, Gilbert and Tobins of Hudson, St. Croix Storage and the City of Hudson. His hobbies included working on family and friends machinery and his antique Ford vehicles. He also farmed for many years on his farm in Roberts and was the long time project leader for the Roberts Ribbon Reapers 4-H Club of Roberts. Guy leaves to celebrate his life children, Jean Marie Evenson of Amery, David Lee Wilbur of Bourbonnais, IL., Sue Marie Dux of Roberts, Paul Lee Wilbur of New Richmond, Grace Marie Hoyer of Roberts; 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. His wife Evelyn Louise (Cochran)Wilbur and infant daughter Rose Marie Wilbur precede him in death. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM in the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, Hudson and continue Thursday from 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Fr. Peter Szleszinski. Interment in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Evenson, Jerry Dux, Maura Wilbur, Cory Evenson, Tim Magee, Bradley Wilbur, Jennifer Wilbur, Valerie Wilbur, Kyle Hoyer and Emily Hoyer.

Heller, Carol Jean, age 46 of River Falls died Saturday May 24, 2003.

Carol Jean Heller, age 46 of River Falls went to be with the Lord on Saturday May 24, 2003 in the Hudson Hospital. Carol was born the daughter of Donald and Sylvia (Amick) Heller on August 1, 1956 in Menomonie, WI. Carol loved music, coloring, playing games, being read stories, pets (especially dogs) and each year couldn’t wait for the Christmas season, she truly loved Jesus. She had received many trophies for her bowling in the Special Olympics. Carol leaves to celebrate her life, parents Donald and Sylvia Heller; siblings, Richard (Jackie) Heller of Prescott, James Heller of River Falls, Lisa (Adam) Lovell of Spring Valley, Kerry (Rhajimas) Holmes of Hudson; nieces and nephews, Alisha Lovell, Brittany Holmes, Jason Heller, Jacob Lovell and Jennifer Heller. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Mable and Horace Easland, Ruth and Clyde Amick and Edward Heller. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM in the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, Hudson. Funeral service will be Wednesday 10 AM in the Assembly of God Church, River Falls with Pastors Kent Boyum and Mike Bechtold officiating. Interment in the Irving Creek Cemetery, Menomonie. Pallbearers will be Nathan Belz, Seth Belz, Jacob Lovell, Adam Lovell, Rhajimas Holmes and Wes Belz. Honorary pallbearer will be Erland Brager. Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society. Funeral Arrangement entrusted to O’Connell Family Funeral Homes, Hudson and Baldwin, WI.

Hush, Gracie four weeks old of Baldwin died July 13.

Gracie Hush, precious four week old daughter of Grey and Tara Hush of Baldwin died Sunday evening, July 13 at Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral mass is pending with O'Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin.

Ickler, Leonard age 93 of Hammond died July 11, 2003

Leonard Ickler age 93 of Hammond died Friday July 11 at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury. Funeral service for Leonard Ickler will be 11AM Monday July 14 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Baldwin. Burial will be in the ST. Mary's cemetery in Hammond. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. Funeral services have been entrusted to the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin.

Richie, Samuel age 81 of Florida, formerly Hudson died July 9.

Samuel Joseph Richie age 81 of Miami, FLA and formerly of Hudson died July 9, 2003 in Florida. Sam is survived by his wife of 58 years Merilyn Ronzheimer Ritchie, daughter Terri (Walter) Shikany, son Eugene (Terri) Richie, five grandchildren, sisters Elsie Mulvaney, Margaret Buttke, Mary Marino, and brother Louis Richie. A memorial mass is tenatively set for July 26 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hudson. Friends may call O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson for further information 386-3725.

Johnson Royce of Alaska formerly of Hudson died June 21, 2003

Royce William Johnson, age 65, of Wasilla, AL. formerly of Hudson, WI.died June 21, 2003 in Republic, MO. Royce was born the son of Emil and Agnes (Kirchener) Johnson on February 19, 1938 in Hudson, WI. Royce was a free spirit who loved to hunt, hike and fish, especially fish in his later years. Being he enjoyed classical music and was an artist, he continually expanded his horizons in the arts. He also worked on the Alaskan Pipeline as a pipefitter and was a member of the Wasilla Alaska City Council. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Royce leaves to celebrate his life, children, Steven (Jean) Johnson of Hanover, MN., Sandy (Rick) Pint of Grand Rapids, MN., Shelly (Don) Balsimo of Stillwater, MN., Scott Johnson of Houlton, WI. And Jesse Johnson of Mountain Grove, MO.; Grandchildren, Tanya Rael, Andy Johnson, Heather Hauer, Valerie Bartkey, Travis Johnson, Matt Johnson, Avery Jonnson and Amanda Johnson. Also by his sister, Leona (Wilfred) Andrle of River Falls, WI., a brother, Jim (Mary Ann) Johnson of North Hudson, WI. And several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Gerald and Robert Johnson and his nephew, Randy Johnson. Celebration of life will be 10 AM Saturday July 12, 2003 in the O’Connell Family Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Peter Szleszinski officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the St. Patrick’s Catholic cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Hudson VFW. Funeral services entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Homes of Hudson and Baldwin, WI.

Swanson, Bev of St. Mary's Point died June 28.

Beverly Jean Swanson (nee: Flattum) age 70 of St. Mary’s Point died suddenly Saturday June 28, 2003 at her residence. Beverly was born on May 27, 1933 in St. Paul, Minnesota. She grew up in Hudson and was raised by her mother Florence Flattum and grandparents Martha (Gregerson) and Gus Flattum. She received her schooling in Hudson and graduated from Hudson High School in the class of 1952. Following high school, she enlisted in the armed forces and served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Upon her return, she would meet and later marry Edward Swanson on October 29, 1955. This union was blessed with children Nadine, Scott Edward, and Steven Scott. The couple lived in Rockford, Illinois from 1955 until 1969 when they made St. Mary’s Point their home. She was a devoted homemaker while her children grew up. Upon their maturing, she worked for KP Hydraulics which became the Toro Company in Hudson. She cherished time spent with family. She enjoyed the fellowship of good friends and her beloved cat Oliver. She also enjoyed watching movies, shopping, taking pictures, and was an avid Viking fan; especially when they played the Packers. She took great pleasure from her vast collection of dolls and teddy bears. She had a great sense of humor who loved to make others laugh with a good joke. Most recently, she has been a devoted wife taking great care of her husband Ed who struggles with Alzheimer’s. Bev leaves to celebrate her life; husband Ed, children Nadine (Stewart) Swanson-McKenna of Oakdale, MN., Steven Scott Swanson of Seattle, Washington, brother Richard (Myrna) Lemon of Athens, TN., special cousin Wanda (Marc) Plourde of Hudson, close friends Merle Henningson, Frank Miller, Mary (Willie) Thron, as well as numerous relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her son Scott Edward, mother Florence Flattum, Aunt Lucille Miller, and Uncle Marv Flattum. Funeral service will be/was 11:00AM Thursday July 3rd, 2003 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson. Pastor Joanne Sorenson officiated with organist Skip James accompanying the singing of Roberta Pominville. Burial with full military honors provided by the Hudson VFW will be/was in the Willow River cemetery in Hudson. Casketbearers were Mike Plourde, Eric Plourde, Ryan Flattum, Taylor Flattum, Paul Johnson, and Joe Carufel. Visitation will be/was 5PM to 7PM Wednesday evening at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson and one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday. Memorials preferred. Funeral services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson.

Mayer, Effie age 81 of Hudson died June 26, 2003

Effie Virginia Mayer, 81, of Hudson died Thursday, June 26, of complications of emphysema and cancer at Pine Ridge Assisted Living in Hudson. She was born Sept. 9, 1921, in Hartland, the daughter of John and Lillian May (Tennis) Nelson, and as a child she lived in River Falls and attended school there. On Jan. 23, 1943, in River Falls, she was married to Clifford Eugene Mayer. She and her husband lived in Roberts before moving to Hudson in 1949. In 1973 they moved to Hastings, Minn., but after her husband’s death in 1998 she returned to Hudson in 2000. While in Hudson, besides being a homemaker, she worked as a waitress and cook at the Hudson Harbor restaurant and Ray’s Truck Stop in Lakeland. In Hastings she was employed by the Gardner House and Smead Manufacturing Company. In her leisure she enjoyed reading, walking, taking drives, playing cards and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Surviving are a son, Michael Wayne Mayer of Hudson; two daughters, Barbara (Neil) Schoenheider of Stillwater and Diane Mayer of Denver, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, Melissa (Brian) Kelly, of Rochester, Mich., Jeannie Tri of St. Paul, Elizabeth (Matt) Graetz of River Falls, Brian (Stacy) Tri of Woodbury, Minn., Brett Mayer of Seattle, Wash., Rik (Kelli) Mayer of Phoenix, Ariz., and Nikki, Cory, Casey and Greg Mayer, all of Wainwright, Alaska; a stepbrother, Lyle (Audrey) Staats of River Falls; a sister-in-law, Donna Coulter of Hudson; and eight great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death, besides her parents, were her husband, Clifford Mayer, in 1998; a son, James Mayer, in 1995; two brothers, Francis Nelson and Wesley Nelson; a sister, Mildred Brown; and a half-sister, Wilma Taplin. A memorial service was at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson with Pastor Karen Ditlefsen officiating. A visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the service. Private burial was in Willow River Cemetery. The family prefers memorials.

Schlief, DeLores age 72 of Hudson died June 15

DeLores A. Schlief, 72, of Troy Township, WI passed away at her home early Sunday morning June 15, 2003. DeLores, daughter of Glen & Beth (Clark) Foss, was born in Marshfield, WI on Oct. 26, 1930. She attended grade school in Marshfield and River Falls before graduating from Hudson High School in 1949. On May 18, 1961 Delores married Gerald W. Schlief in Phoenix, AZ. The couple returned to Hudson, WI in 1962 where they raised their three children; Anita, Tom and Carolyn. After 20 years of service, DeLores retired from Anderson Corporation’s Payroll Department on May 12, 1992. DeLores enjoyed garage sales, house boating with family and friends, wintering in Las Vegas and socializing at the annual Pepper Fest. She was happiest surrounded by her family and friends. Many of her special times were spent with her grandchildren; Mara & Dane Trampush and Leighanne McDaniel. Survivors include her husband Jerry, three children; Anita (Robert) McDaniel of Clearwater, FL, Tom Schlief of North Hudson, Carolyn (Warren) Trampush of Greenwood, WI, three grandchildren; Mara and Dane Trampush, and Leighanne McDaniel, two sisters; Donna (Roger) Gratiot of Pueblo West, CO, Anita (Jim) Cameron of Medford Lakes, NJ, one brother, David (Carol) Foss of Chippewa Falls, WI and close family friends Theresa, Matt and Caitlyn Speirs. The memorial will be on Wednesday June 18, 2003 from 4 to 7 PM with a 5 PM service at the First Baptist Church of Hudson WI officiated by Pastor Randy Fredrickson. Arrangements made by O’Connell Family Funeral Home.

Elwood, Mildred age 84 of Hudson died July 29, 2003

Mildred R. Elwood, age 84 of Hudson and formerly of St. Paul, died Tues. July 29th, 2003. Funeral services for Mildred Elwood will be Thurs. July 31 at 3:00pm. at The O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Visitation will be 1 hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial in Elmhurst cemetery in St. Paul, MN.
