ANDREW J. OOLMAN

Mr. Andrew Oolman, age 18, of Orange City, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at the Sanford University of South Dakota Medical Center, in Sioux Falls.

There will be a memorial service on Monday, January 11, at 2:00pm, at the Dover Avenue Alliance Church in Orange City.

The Rev. Jeffrey Keady will officiate.

Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn cemetery in Orange City.

There will be a prayer service on Monday, at 1:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 2:00pm on Sunday, with the family present from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, at the funeral home.

Andrew John was born on November 14, 1991, in Orange City.

He is survived by his parents, Greg and Melissa Oolman; his brother, Geoffrey; his sister, Maria; and his grandparents, Milo and Kay Miesen and Cliff and Arlys Oolman, all of Orange City.

Also grieving are his uncles and aunts, Al and Lisa (Oolman) Laird, of Orange City; Craig and Michelle (Miesen) Felix, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Michael “Tike” and Suzette Oolman, of Phoenix, Arizona; Skip and Mary (Miesen) McRoy, of St. Paul, Minnesota; and Michael and Michelle Miesen, of Des Moines.

Andrew showed great tenderness to his cousins, who miss him desperately: Matthew, Daniel, Olivia, Nicholas, Haley, Caleb, Brayden, Travis, Madelynn, Connor, and Samantha.

Many other family and friends are left to mourn.

In his passing, Andrew gave the gift of life to up to 45 people, who have received his organs and tissues.

Andrew loved hunting and fishing, his friends, his Grandma Oolman's scotcharoo bars, and his Grandma Miesen's banana bread.

We will forever miss the laughter that he brought to us all.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to ATLAS in Sioux Center.

ELIZABETH H. OGGEL

Miss Elizabeth Oggel, age 105, of Bloomington, Illinois, formerly of Orange City, passed away on January 22, 2010, at the Westminster Village in Bloomington.

There will be a graveside memorial service in the spring at the West Lawn cemetery in Orange City.

Arrangements are being completed by the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

CAROLYN J. NIEZEN

Mrs. Carolyn Niezen, age 66, of Orange City, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, March 12, at 11:00am, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City.

Pastor Bryan Dick will officiate.

Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn cemetery in Orange City.

There will be a prayer service on Friday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Thursday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.

Carolyn June was born on February 27, 1944, in Artesia, California, the daughter of Thomas and Swannie (Munneke) Schaafsma.

She was raised in Bellflower, California, where she attended the Christian School and graduated from Valley Christian High School.

She also attended a cosmetology school.

On December 30, 1963, she married Gerald Niezen in Bellflower.

They made their home in California, Maryland, Oregon, and Idaho.

In 2007, they moved to Orange City.

Mrs. Niezen was a homemaker and a hairdresser, working at an Army Post in Maryland and at the Inland Christian Home in Chino, California.

Wherever they lived, she was a member of a Christian Reformed Church, including the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City.

She participated in the Goods News Club in Oregon and Coffee Break and Ladies' Chorus.

Carolyn was a very active member of the Republican Party.

She enjoyed playing cards, entertaining friends, cooking, and working with and riding horses.

She especially liked playing with and spending time with her five granddaughters.

Survivors include her husband of more than 46 years, Jerry; two daughters and their husbands, Kathleen and Steve Swart, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Kerrie and Kevin Melville, of Joseph, Oregon; a son and his wife, Dan and Mara Niezen, of Orange City; five granddaughters, Kacie, Kaylie, and Katelynn Melville, and Heidi and Gracie Niezen; two sisters and their husbands, Florene and Ronald Hilarides, of Oakdale, California; and Rosie and Gene Van Essen, of Bellflower; a brother and his wife, Tom and Lori Schaafsma, of Joseph; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Loren Schaafsma.

Memorials may be directed to the Orange City Christian School.

Lavonne Engel

Lavonne Engel age 84 of Ocheyedan, IA died Friday, March 16, 2012 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Sibley, with Father John Vakulskas as celebrant.

Burial will follow in the St. Andrew’s Catholic cemetery in Sibley.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 20th from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.

There will be a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.
