Kyle Moffatt, age 37, of Hudson died on Sat. August 28, 2004. Kyle was born on September 28, 1966 in Milwaukee, WI; the son of Bruce and Patricia (Page) Moffatt. Kyle was employeed with Milestones Inc. in North Hudson.

The family is holding a private service.

Dorothy Couch of Hammond, died September 1, 2004 at the American Heritage Care Center

Dorothy Idelia Couch age 89 of Hammond and formerly of Hudson died Wednesday September 1st, 2004 at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond. Dorothy was born on February 5th, 1915 in Roberts, Wisconsin; the daughter of Joseph Melvin and Hilda (Anderson) Iverson. Dorothy attended the Kinnickinnic Monument School outside of Roberts and the River Falls High School. On July 1, 1939, she was united in marriage to her best friend; Lyle ‘Pete’ Couch in Crookston, Minnesota. Dorothy was a devoted homemaker who cherished her family. She did some work over the years part-time for Solsvig’s Grocery, Julian’s Grocery, and for Chumo Anderson’s store. Later, she would join her husband Pete manage the Rolling Hills Girl Scout Camp in rural Hudson. They managed the 190 acres of glacier-gouged hills and hollows. Dorothy took great pleasure to tending to her family and friends. She was a great cook who made the best raisin cookies and banana bread (if you were to ask her children and grandkids). She also enjoyed handwork such as crocheting. She enjoyed the care of the American Heritage Care Center and their bingo nights. Dorothy is survived by her children Patricia Kennedy of Hudson, James Couch of Shakopee, Thomas Couch of Hammond, Wayne (Kay) Couch of Baldwin, six grandchildren Michael (Jennifer) Couch, Kari (Scott) Benoy, Dennis Kennedy, Sherri (Mike) Scheierl, Becky (Gerry) Miller, Jimmy (Jessica) Couch, nine great grandchildren Cami, Kaylyn, Madison Couch, Morgan and Ryan Benoy, Jonah Scheierl, Samantha, Logan, and Rylee Miller, and brother Gerald (Betty) Iverson of North Hudson, & special nieces & nephews . She is preceded in death by her husband Lyle, parents, brother Harold, and sister Mildred Marino.

Funeral service for Dorothy will be 11:00AM Saturday September 4th at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson with Pastor Joanne Sorenson officiating. Music will be provided by Pastor Dean and his wife Linda Simpson of Cross Lutheran Church in Roberts. Burial will be in the Willow River Cemetery in Hudson with casketbearers being Michael Couch, Dennis Kennedy, Jimmy Couch, Scott Benoy, Gerry Miller, and Mike Scheierl. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. Memorials preferred. Funeral services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson.

Griffin, Dick age 58 of Baldwin died March 6.

Richard J. “Dick” Griffin age 58 of Baldwin and owner of State Farm Insurance of Baldwin died peacefully Sunday morning March 6, 2005 at the Baldwin Care Center following a courageous battle with cancer. Dick was born on January 3, 1947 in St. Paul, Minnesota; the son of Clarence and Harriet (Ylvisaker) Griffin. He was raised in St. Paul attending elementary school there and graduated from Central High School in St. Paul. Following this, he furthered his education by receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in history and economics in 1969 from Macalester College in the Twin Cities. Shortly there after, he enlisted in the armed forces where he proudly served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged and would meet his soon to be wife Sharon Hop of Baldwin. They were united in marriage on September 16, 1972 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hammond. This union would be blessed with two great sons; Ryan and Sean. Dick worked for a short time for Twin City Federal Savings and Loan prior to opening and operating the State Farm Insurance Company in Baldwin which was established in 1978. Throughout his many years in insurance, he has developed many clients and many more friends. When he wasn’t working, Dick’s passion in life was spending time with his family; especially fishing with his sons. They truly appreciated a calm lake with a musky strike or a weed bed with bass coming out of the water on another strike. Dick was active in all facets of his boy’s life; from a Cub Scout Leader to Little League coach as he was always there to encourage them. He was an avid Minnesota Twins Fan and loved to talk historical events and was fascinated with the History Channel. Dick’s last three years have been filled with many ups, downs, and tribulations. He never quit fighting and always kept his sense of humor through even the darkest hours. Dick leaves to mourn his death; his wife of 32 years Sharon, sons Ryan and Sean, uncles Orin Ylvisaker of Baldwin, Albert (Frieda) Ylvisaker of River Falls, aunts Gladys Pederson of Baldwin, Ruby Ylvisaker of Baldwin, cousin Danny (OkCha) Peterson and their children Stephanie and Chris, father-in-law George Hop of Baldwin, sisters/brothers-in-law Darlene (Steve) Kongshaug and son Jim, Linda (Jim) Gleason and children Angela, Mary, Bill, and Mike, as well as a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law Mary Hop.

Funeral service for Dick Griffin will be 1:00PM Wednesday March 9th at Peace Lutheran Church in Baldwin with Pastor John Hanson officiating. Organist will be Randvig Norvold with musicians being Katie Mortel and Kevin Sheridan. Burial with full military honors provided by the Baldwin American Legion Cave Dahl Post will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hammond. Active casketbearers will be Tom McCormack, John Grafstrom, Greg Florcyk, Tom Rock, David Lease, and Howard Dankemeyer. Honorary casketbearers will be Jim Gleason, Steve Kongshaug, Bob Belock, Danny Peterson, Harry Standaert, and Dennis Hillstead. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 until 8PM at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin and one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday. Memorials are preferred.

Martin Schmahl of Baldwin died Wednesday, March 16, 2005

Martin “Marty” Allen Schmahl age 53 of Hammond and formerly of Menomonie, died suddenly, Wednesday March 16th, 2005 at the Baldwin Area Medical Center. Marty was born on July 31, 1951 in River Falls; the son of Raymond and Marie (Gund) Schmahl. Marty attended elementary school in Roberts and graduated from St. Croix Central High School in the class of 1970. While a senior, he enlisted in the Naval Reserves. Upon graduation, he entered full time naval service and was sent to Hospital Corpsman A school. After completion of A school, he served over 20 years, retiring as a Chief Hospitalman. He served in many different duty locations and retired in South Carolina before moving to Menomonie. Marty was married to Darla Amundson on May 7, 2001. Marty loved to cook and grill as well as finding a good fishing spot for anything that bit. He also enjoyed his pet cats and dog Rocket. Marty is survived by his wife Darla, son Phillip Schmahl of Florida, step children Jason, Angel, Candy, nine grand step children, mother Marie Schmahl of Hammond, siblings Raymond (Patrice) Schmahl of Menomonie, Louise (Rainer) Schmahl of Menomonie, Laura Beth (Moni) Pittman of Hammond, Rebecca (Jeff) Pajac of Martel, Marylee Schmahl of Hammond, Bernard Schmahl of Hammond, Joseph (Heather) Schmahl of River Falls, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Raymond in 1988, brother Herman in 1962, sister Toinette Chenea, and special friend Carol Amundson.

A Celebration of life was held 2:00PM Monday March 21st at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin. Pastor Chris Myers of the First Congregational Church of River Falls. Music was provided by Kate Jennings. Burial with full military honors provided by the Baldwin American Legion Post 240 was in the Hammond Cemetery. Funeral services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin.

Danielson, Burton age 78 of Hudson died Friday March 18, 2005 in the St. Paul Church Home.

Burton F. Danielson, age 78, of Hudson died March 18 in the St. Paul Church Home, St. Paul. Burton was born May 15, 1926 the son of J. Gilbert and Mabel (Grant) Danielson in Minneapolis. He attended school in Minneapolis and was a 1944 graduate of South High. He entered the Navy immediately after high school and upon his discharge attended the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree. He married the former Mary Knudson on Sept. 20, 1952 in Jewell, IA. Burton began working for 3M as a product Manager in the electrical products division; in 1965 he became the program manager in the corrosion products division and in 1973 Burton moved to Chicago to work for Prehler Electric a subsidiary of 3M until his return to St. Paul in 1978 as a sales manager for the Inter Telecom division of 3M, a position he held until his retirement in 1986. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and golfing and he was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. Burton is lovingly survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary; Children Brent (Tamra) Danielson of Story City, IA, Sandy (Gene Smith) Danielson of Battle Creek, MN & Jill (Mark) Meyer of Standardville, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Service 2 PM Tuesday March 21st in Bethel Lutheran Church, Hudson. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial in the Willow River Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Hudson VFW.

Robert Enger age 77 of Hudson, formerly of Montana died Monday March 21st in Hastings.

Robert Clifford Enger, age 77, of Hudson and formerly of Butte, Montana died Monday morning March 21, 2005 in Hastings, MN. Robert was born in Deer Lodge, MT on April 21, 1927 the son of Einer and Rachel (Eliason) Enger. Robert grew up in the Deer Lodge area and was drafted into the United States Army as a young man. He served as a medic in the Korean War. Upon the completion of his military service Robert studied pharmacy at the University of Montana. He met his wife LaQuita Lahn while in school and the couple married in June of 1957. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters Alecia and Starla. Their family made their home in Butte, Montana In Butte, Robert was known as the friendly neighborhood pharmacist at Bob’s Pharmacy. He was an avid gardener, woodworker, and handyman and passed these skills onto his daughters. Robert will remain in the hearts of his wife LaQuita; daughters Alecia Enger and Starla Enger and her husband Karl Warren all of Hudson; he is also survived by many friends and family in Montana and Washington.

A private family service is planned for a later date in Montana. The O'Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson is assisting the family. 715-386-3725

Henderson, Kenneth age 57 of Baldwin died March 22.

Kenneth Gene ‘Ken’ Henderson, age 57, of Baldwin, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at the Baldwin Care Center following a short illness with cancer. Ken was born on July 29, 1947 in Baldwin, the son of Herb and Pearl (Olson) Henderson. Ken attended elementary school in Baldwin and became one of the first to graduate from the newly merged Baldwin-Woodville High School, class of 1965. He furthered his schooling by attending the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire where he received his Bachelor¹s degree in Music Education. After receiving his degree, he taught music at Elk Mound High School and later at Regis High School in Eau Claire. He was united in marriage to Roxanne Owens from 1971 to 1987. In 1981 they adopted Kelsey. Ken enlisted in the armed forces where he proudly served in the United States Air Force. He attained the rank of Captain during his work as an Air Force Band director, and later transferred to Intelligence. Most recently he worked for Schmitt Music where he provided schools with musical supplies. Ken was later married to Cindy Kimbro from 1988 to 1997. Besides music, one of his greatest passions was wood carving. He was a gifted craftsman who used etching, burning and carving techniques to create objects from pictures, sketches or real life. He belonged to various wood carving clubs, and was in the process of establishing one in Baldwin. He also enjoyed a challenging game of chess. He was a devoted member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Baldwin where he served as a deacon, choir director, and custodian. Those who knew Ken appreciated his witty sense of humor which he shared until his death. Ken is survived by his daughter Kelsey Owens who is a member of the Army Reserve serving in Iraq, parents Herb and Pearl Henderson of Baldwin, sister Mary (Marcus) Korth of Seattle, WA, brothers Mark Henderson of Blaine, MN, David (Linda) Henderson of Middletown, CT, nieces/nephews Christina & Alyssa Korth, Theresa, Brady, & Travis Henderson, Andrea & Benjamin Henderson, aunts Violet Clark of Superior, WI, and Grace Ulvi of Cloquet, MN. He is preceded in death by his grandparents and Uncle Henry Henderson.

Funeral services for Ken were at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 26 at the First United Presbyterian Church in Baldwin with Pastor Steven Rice officiating and organist Paul Willink. A quartet consisting of Paul Willink, Mark Willink, Steve Holle, and Rick Holle as well as a solo by Brian Ewing were accompanied by Mark Henderson. Burial with full military honors provided by the Baldwin American Legion Post #240 was in the Baldwin Cemetery with casket bearers being Carroll Klanderman, Don Matysik, Don Timmerman, Dan Schmidt, Mark Willink, and Rick Holle. Funeral arrangements were provided by the O¹Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin.

Jean Greenwald, of Hudson died March 22, 2005 at her residence.

Jean Greenwald, age 82, of Troy Township, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, March 22, 2005 at her home. Jean was born on July 17, 1922; daughter of Jay Bernard and Hilda Christine Peterson. Raised in Minneapolis, Jean attended Robert Fulton Elementary and Washburn High School. She graduated from high school in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Jean and her brother, Jay, enjoyed spending their summers at the family cabin on Lake Minnewawa, near McGregor, Minnesota. As a young woman, Jean was a model and had jobs at Dayton’s in Minneapolis, Nieman Marcus in Dallas, and stores in Miami and Miami Beach. Along with the Mayor of Miami and a Navy Admiral, Jean was selected to go out into the ocean to meet the captured German submarine, U-505, as it was towed into harbor. The group rode in aboard the bow of the boat, and pictures of the event were published in the Miami newspaper. In Washington, D.C. during the War, Jean took a Red Cross Nursing course and worked in a Veterans’ Hospital. She also worked at the War Department decoding messages from the front. On January 3, 1947, Jean was united in marriage with Daniel Greenwald at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. This union was blessed with two children, Vicki and Jack. An exceptional hostess, Jean loved entertaining family and friends. She was active with her children, through PTA and as a Girl Scout leader. Jean was involved in church circle, enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, and boating on the St. Croix River. She had a great taste for fashion and style. Jean’s greatest love was being with family. She also loved travel. She and Dan traveled around the world five times, visiting over 70 foreign countries. Jean will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 58 years, Dan; her daughter, Vicki Huebner of Flemington, NJ; her son, Jack Greenwald of Dubai, United Arab Emirates; four grandchildren, David, Laura, Danny, and Shannon; beloved nieces, nephews, and many family members. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Jay B. Peterson, Jr.

Funeral service for Jean will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 26th at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson. Pastor Dennis Nelson will preside. Burial will be in the Willow River Cemetery in Hudson with Mark Zitzewitz, Karl Zitzewitz, Chris Vaugh, Kurt Krueger, Kori Winterton and Rob Winterton acting as casketbearers. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to the Phipps Center, the Hudson Hospital Foundation, or the Carpenter Nature Center.
