Terrence Louis LaFontaine age 55 of Baldwin died Sunday February 20th at the Baldwin Area Medical Center’s Emergency Room after being brought to the hospital by ambulance. Terrence was born on August 5, 1949 in Duluth, Minnesota; the son of The Honorable Albert Leo and Rita Frances (Gangl) LaFontaine. He attended elementary school in Minneapolis prior to graduating from St. Paul Central High School. In 1966, he was married to Audrey Giossi. This union would end in divorce. He would later marry Carla K. Erickson. The couple has been living in Baldwin for the past few years. Terrence was a gifted engineer. Whether acting as a private contractor on various projects or simply working on vehicles, he was gifted with his hands. He worked over the years as a mechanic as well and loved to work on his 76’ Chevy truck. He was a strong minded, generous, self made man who cherished his family. Terrence is survived by his wife Carla, children Lynette LaFontaine of Hopkins, MN, Melissa Anderson of St. Paul, MN, Step children Charolotte (Roger) McKusick of Roseville, Patrick Schneller of St. Paul, Erin Tietz of Baldwin, Evan Tietz of Baldwin, grandchildren Neal Mays, Gage Anderson, step grandchildren Kylie McKusick, Samara Tietz, parents The Honorable Albert Leo & Rita LaFontaine of St. Paul, siblings Ronald (Cynthia) LaFontaine of St. Paul, Richard (Cleo) LaFontaine of Bloomington, Randolph (Diane) LaFontaine of Minneapolis, Lanlee LaFontaine of St. Paul, Julienne (Tim) Borrman of St. Paul. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Louis and Julienne LaFontaine, maternal grandparents John and Mary Gangl, son Terrence LaFontaine, sister Janet Hazelton, and nephew Richard “Little Ricky” LaFontaine.
Funeral service will 2PM Friday February 25th at O'Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 So. 11th St. Hudson, WI. Burial will be in the Elmhurst Cemetery in St. Paul with casketbearers being Alan Hazelton, John Deflorin, Neal Mays, Tim Norberg, Robert LaFontaine, Frank Schwitz, Gene Skottegaard, and Patrick Schneller. Visitation will be noon to 2PM prior to service at O’Connell’s in Hudson on Friday. Memorials preferred. A funeral luncheon will immediately follow the graveside service at the Skottegaard residence; address will be available at the funeral home.
Donna Earley age 75 of Hudson died Monday, February 21st, 2005 at United Hospital in St. Paul.
Donna Mae Earley age 75 of Hudson and formerly of Houlton died Monday February 21, 2005 at the United Hospital in St. Paul. Donna was born on September 15, 1929 in New Richmond, Wisconsin; the daughter of Jack and Lil (Olson) Schmidt. As a young girl, she was adopted by the Mr. and Mrs. James Colstad family. She attended elementary school in Star Prairie prior to attending New Richmond High School. On November 13, 1965, she was united in marriage to Miles Earley by Judge O’Brien in Hudson. Although she was a dedicated homemaker, she worked many years for the St. Croix County Jail as a cook. She also provided day care for many children from her home. Donna loved to bake bread and have that fresh homemade bread smell throughout the house. Earlier in life, she enjoyed cross-country skiing, skating, playing the drums, and was a great dancer. She also enjoyed grooming and riding her horses. Donna is survived by her children Colette (Thomas Anger) Earley of Spring Valley, WI, Rebecca (Steve) Olson of Balsam Lake, WI, Theresa (Joseph) Jacobs of Lakeland, MN, Curtis Olson of Bayport, MN, brothers Paul Hegge of Stoughton, WI, Sonny Iverson of Minneapolis, MN, sister Adele Billben of International Falls, MN, brothers/sisters-in-law Kevin (Rose) Earley of New Richmond, Ruth McCabe of New Richmond, Shirley (Howard) Leverty of Somerset, Margaret (Dwight) Anderson of New Richmond, Eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Miles, daughter, and two sons.

John Hofbauer of Hudson died Tuesday, February 22nd at United Hospital in St. Paul.
John Joseph “Jack” Hofbauer age 70 of Hudson and formerly of Adams and Waunakee, Wisconsin died Tuesday February 22, 2005 at United Hospital St. Paul. Jack was born on March 3, 1934 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin; the son of Joseph Andrew and Agnes Joann (Lewylln) Hofbauer. He attended elementary school in Oshkosh prior to graduating from Westfield High School. He furthered his schooling by attending the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. He was a proud member of our armed forces where he served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1955. On October 27, 1956, he was united in marriage to his best friend, Donna Mae Reichhoff at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Adams, Wisconsin. Jack began a long and rewarding career with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He truly worked through the ranks. He began as a cook in the camp car and would be promoted to signalman and then manager and supervisor. He began in Adams and was later transferred to Waunakee and then Hudson where they have lived since the early 70’s. Jack was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing with family. Earlier in life, he was a member of the Hudson Booster Club and coached his kid’s baseball teams. He also enjoyed a sunny day on the golf course and gardening. More recently, he cherished time spent with Donna and his family traveling about the country. Robert Jenkinson of Hudson died Wednesday, February 23rd, 2005.
Robert William "Bob" Jenkinson age 63 of Hudson died suddenly Wednesday February 23rd, 2005 at his residence. Bob was born on August 7, 1941 in Ladysmith, Wisconsin; the son of Robert Wallace and Helen (Rech) Jenkinson. He attended elementary school in Cameron, Wisconsin prior to graduating from Cameron High School in the class of 1960. In 1961, he enlisted in the armed forces completing his basic training in the United States Air Force. Following this, he was a proud reservist for the Air Force for many years being promoted to Master Tech Sergeant. On November 30, 1963, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Emma Meisel at Christ Evangelical Church in Greenfield, Wisconsin. This union would be blessed with children John, Theodore, William, and Lori. This union would later end in divorce. With his knowledge he received from the military, he began a long and rewarding career in the Avionics field as an Electronics Technician. He worked for the Federal Aviation Administration. He was responsible for backup computer systems and radar equipment. Working with the flight inspection field office, they maintained inspector planes which carried out various missions. He loved his job and used his knowledge at home as well. He designed and made his own radio transmitter and TV as he loved to tinker with electronic gadgets. Furthermore, he electrically wired his home when it was built. He was an avid Green Bay Packer Backer and sported his green and gold Zubaz when he watched them play at home or Lambeau Field. He was also a huge movie buff and had a vast collection of old favorites. He enjoyed traveling with his family when he received job related training around the country. He also took great pleasure in spending time at home with his daughter Lori and their dog Star. Bob is survived by his children John (Melissa) Jenkinson of Hudson, Theodore (Jane Worrell) Jenkinson of Hudson, William (Tracey) Jenkinson of North Hudson, Lori Jenkinson of Hudson, mother Helen Jenkinson of Cameron, seven grandchildren Crisstopher, John Robert II, Jacob, Sara, Emily, Brannan, Calla, brother Mike (Luanne) Jenkinson of Cameron, and sister Barbara (Jim) McIntyre of Mound, MN. Preceding Bob in death, was his father Robert Wallace Jenkinson in December of 1973.
Funeral service for Robert Jenkinson will be 11AM Saturday, February 26th at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson with Pastor Dennis Nelson officiating. Roberta Pominville will be the pianist and will accompany the O'Brien Family. Burial with full military honors provided by the Hudson VFW will be in the Pinegrove Cemetery in Cameron, Wisconsin. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 until 7PM at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson and one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. Memorials preferred.
Heikkila, Gerald of Afton died February 24.
Gerald Heikkila, age 63 of Afton, Minnesota died peacefully Thursday February 24th, 2005 at his residence following an illness with cancer. Gerald was born on November 22, 1941 in Superior, Wisconsin; the son of Edwin Rudolph and Miriam Isabel (Hill) Heikkila. He attended Horace Mann Elementary School in Virginia, Minnesota prior to graduating from Virginia High School in 1959. After high school he attended Virginia Junior College in Virginia, Minnesota. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota earning a Bachelor’s degree in history. In 1972 he earned his Master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. He began a 36-year teaching career at the Bloomer High School, in Bloomer, Wisconsin in 1963. He took a teaching position at Hudson High School in Hudson, Wisconsin in 1968 where he remained until his retirement in 1999. He served under principals Heiting, Schumacher, Scheffen, Lainey and Lanning. As an educator, Jerry had a passion for teaching; He designed courses on the Middle East and World War II and taught a variety of history classes. On June 1, 1968 Jerry married Sandra Jane Ebert at Peace Lutheran Chruch in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. In 1970 the couple built their home in Afton, Minnesota in which they raised their two sons, Jason and Luke. In addition to the passion he held for teaching, Jerry was equally fond of sports, jazz, reading and travel. In recent years Jerry and Sandy traveled to China, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Russia, and Mexico. The opportunity to explore different cultures and meet new friends enriched these experiences. Closer to home, Jerry loved his family cabin on Lake Vermilion in Cook, Minnesota. He found relaxation through landscaping and gardening both at the cabin and at home. Gerald is survived by his wife Sandy, sons Jason (Becky) Heikkila of Canton, South Dakota and their children Joey and Gabriela, Luke (Sarah) Heikkila of Roseville and their daughter Ani Jane, brother David (Marie) Heikkila of Hudson, nephews Brett Heikkila, Nick Heikkila, Tony Heikkila, and Tucker Wildermuth. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Andy Wildermuth.
A memorial Celebration of Life will be 11:00AM Monday, February 28 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Afton, Minnesota with Pastor Steve Kramer officiating. Internment will be private. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Monday morning at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to the donor's choice. Violet Johnstad of Escondido, California passed away on Wednesday, August 9th, 2006 in California.
Violet Johnstad (nee Haugen), age 74, passed away Wednesday, August 9 at her home in Escondido CA, with her 7 children lovingly at her bedside. Violet was born May 6, 1932 to Oscar and Hattie (Bodeshiemer) Haugen in Hudson, WI. She married Conrad Johnstad on December 9, 1950 and together they shared 7 children. In June of 1990, she was married to Savino Cabrera. Violet was an avid reader, loved music, and enjoyed gardening, crafts, antiques and animals. Her faithful dog ‘Mimi’ was her best friend. After the death of ’Mimi’, she joined “Small Paws”, giving a foster home to abandoned dogs. Violet always said her family was her greatest reward. She was a beautiful, devoted mother and grandmother. She battled colon cancer for 8 years with incredible dignity and a positive outlook. Her greatest wish was to be here to welcome her great-grandchildren into the world…. she succeeded. Survivors include her children, Jody Harris of Escondido CA, Sheryl (Thomas) Leonard of Des Moines IA, Steven Johnstad of Hollywood CA, Terry Shock of Jim Falls WI, Mindy Rutledge of Eau Claire WI, Dusty (Bill) Millard of Des Moines IA, and Jason (Kylie) Johnstad of Altoona IA; grandchildren, Shannon, Angela, Adam, Sarah, Laura, Jessica, Nick, Blake, Matthew, Fisher, and Ogden; great-grandchildren, Samuel, Josephine, Alexis, Carley, Fisher, and Ogden; brothers, Harold Haugen of Rockwell IA, Ray Haugen of Saint Paul MN, and Daryl Haugen of Yuma AZ; sisters Alice Kordosky of White Bear Lake MN, Lila Chiconis of Bayport MN, Bernice Noreen of North Saint Paul MN, and Olive Brande of Saint Paul MN. Violet was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Ella Penny Young. “She’s the smell of lilacs blooming in the spring, she’s our rainbow after the storm. Raymond Edward Bhend Sr. age 80 of Hudson passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, August 10, 2006. Ray was born on February 26, 1926 in Athens, WI; the son of Eugene and Adeline (Gaiser) Bhend. After high school, Ray graduated from the University of Madison with a Mechanical Engineering degree. Ray was united in marriage on April 22, 1962 in Jacksboro, TN to Azalee Jones. Their marriage was blessed with two children Raymond Jr. and Jennifer. He worked and retired from 3M as an mechanical engineer. Ray was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing- and was fortunate to have experienced many fishing trips to Canada. He also enjoyed being outside in his garden. He was a very active sportsman in his early years- playing tennis, snow skiing, and water skiing. He was an exceptional handyman especially at home when it came time to fixing what needed to be fixed; as well as fixing and doing body work on cars. Ray truly enjoyed life and had a witty and dry sense of humor that was sure to make you smile or laugh. He was a devoted, patient and loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed and remain in the hearts of his wife of 45 years Azalee; children Raymond Jr. (Fran) of Hudson and Jennifer Bhend of Hudson; grandchildren Andrew James and Rachel Elizabeth Bhend; and brother Norman (Marilyn) Bhend of Athens, WI. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Grace Ewan; and brothers Harold and Arnold Bhend.
