James M. Dormady
James "Jim" Michael Dormady, 59, New Ulm, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at his home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Divine Providence Community Home Chapel, Sleepy Eye, with interment in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Sleepy Eye. Sturm Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Jim was born July 21, 1944, in Sleepy Eye, the son of Floyd and Ruth (Kuester) Dormady. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Schools. Jim was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and enjoyed working with his hands and putting together remote-controlled model airplanes.
Jim is survived by his mother, Ruth Dormady of Sleepy Eye; daughters, Kathleen Dormady and husband Curtis Hecht of Sleepy Eye, and Wanda and Travis Ives of Winona; grandchildren, Joshua, Nicholas and Crystal; brother, Thomas Dormady of Morgan; sisters, Kathleen Schewe of New Ulm and Dorothy Hudson of Chesapeake, Va. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd on Aug. 4, 1982; an infant brother, Dennis; brother, Donald; and brothers-in-law, Earl Hudson and Jerald Schewe.
Gerald John Grausam
Gerald John Grausam, 81, Springfield, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at New Ulm Medical Center, New Ulm. Visitation will be at Wednesday, Oct. 15, 4:30-8:30 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 16, 7:30-10 a.m. at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield. Funeral service will be held at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Springfield, Thursday, at 10:30 a.m., with interment in the church cemetery. There will be a K.C. Rosary on Thursday, 10 a.m., at the church.
Gerald John Grausam was born May 10, 1922, in Burnstown Township, the son of John and Josephine (Turbes) Grausam. He attended country school and helped his father with the family farm. On Aug. 26, 1952, Jerry married Mary Griebel at the St. John Catholic Church in Searles. Jerry had farmed his home farm for over 50 years when the couple moved into Springfield in 1999. He was a member of the St. Raphael's Catholic Church, where he was an usher for many years. Jerry was a K.C. member and enjoyed farming, taking care of animals, his lawn and family.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary Grausam of Springfield; daughters, Ginny and husband Gary Norsten of Willmar and Pattie and husband Steve Engel of Apple Valley; son, Jack and wife Nancy Grausam of New Ulm; and grandchildren, Kristen Norsten, Justin and Jamie Engel, and Dustin and Amber Grausam. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jacob Engel; parents; brother, Vince Grausam and sister, Cyrilla Schultz.
Robert "Bobbie" Patterson
Robert "Bobbie" Patterson, passed away peacefully at his home on Oct. 7, 2003. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Oct. 10, at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Shakopee.
Bobbie was born July 6, 1925, in Sleepy Eye, the son of Robert and Margaret Patterson. He married Mary Jean Ladd at The Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth.
Bobbie is survived by his wife, Mary Jean; daughters, Mary and Trudy; sons, Tom, Joe and Daniel, six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; sisters, Mae Schroeder, Donna Bielen and Annice Frovick. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine; parents; brothers, Harold Patterson, Kenneth Patterson and Bruce Patterson; and sisters, Gladys and Lucille.
Alfred W. Suess
Alfred Wilbert Suess, 75, Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato. Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 14 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in the church cemetery. Sturm Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Alfred was born Jan. 5, 1928, the son of Fred and Louisa (Hindermann) Suess, in Nicollet County near St. George. He attended school in Mulligan Township. On April 2, 1951, Alfred was united in marriage with Verna (Mickelson) at The Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. He served in the Korean War from 1952-1954, when he was honorably discharged, receiving the Bronze Star. Alfred was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, Isaac-Radl VFW Post #800 and the Knights of Columbus. He loved woodworking, baseball and fishing. Alfred especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Verna of Sleepy Eye; son, Duane Suess of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren, Becky Suess-Brey of New Ulm and Craig Suess of Sleepy Eye; great-grandson, Shawn Suess of New Ulm; sisters, Rosella Windschitl of Sleepy Eye, Adeline Svoboda of Olivia, Marie and husband Walter Evers, Cecelia and husband Richard Zwaschka and Marjorie and husband Thomas Prokesch, all of Comfrey; brother-in-law, Wesley Mickelson of Springfield; sisters-in-law, Betty Mickelson of Springfield, Della Schieffert of Sleepy Eye and Lois and husband Bill Nelson of Sleepy Eye. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Norbert Suess, Donald Suess and James Suess; and sisters, Leona, Delores and Hildegard.
Larry Tauer, Jr.
Larry Tauer, Jr., 62, Burnsville, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at his home. Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Oct. 11, at Mary, Mother of the Church in Burnsville with interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights.
Larry was born in Sleepy Eye, July 12, 1941, the son of Larry and Marie Tauer. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School and received his BA degree at St. John's University, Collegeville and his Master of Science degree at the University of Colo., where she graduated in 1962. Barb married James Brown on Aug. 21, 1965, in Pueblo, Colo.; brother, Keith and wife Karen Beck of Cripple Creek, Colo.; sister-in-law, Joanne and husband John Mills of Lake Crystal; brother-in-law, Donald Brown of Sleepy Eye; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Louis Fields; husband, James Brown in 1995; and an infant daughter.
Lyle Muehlbauer
Lyle Muehlbauer, 82, Sleepy Eye, formerly of New Ulm, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye. Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 28, at The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm, with Father John Richter officiating. Interment is in New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Lyle was born May 14, 1921, in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County, the middle child of Louis and Anna (Klossner) Muehlbauer. He attended rural school in Lafayette Township and farmed with his parents. On June 16, 1948, Lyle married Bertha Sellner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Lyle and Bertha continued to farm the Muehlbauer home farm and lived there into retirement. Lyle moved to Ridgeway on German in New Ulm in early 2000, living there for three years. He became a resident of Luther Memorial Home in Madelia and more recently became a resident of Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye. Lyle was a life-long member of The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. He was well known in Lafayette Township as a surveyor for tiling and had served for several years on the rural school board. Lyle loved all the seasons of farming with harvest being his most favorite.
Lyle is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marlys and Jim McLean of Andover; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Sue Muehlbauer of Sleepy Eye; sister, Eva Kokesh, a resident of Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye; sister-in-law, Magdalen Muehlbauer of New Ulm; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Clara Schroepfer, Leonard Sellner, Clement and Dorothy Seller, Lucille Sellner, Florence Sellner, all of Sleepy Eye, and Angeline Weber of Gibbon, Anna Hacker of Lafayette and Harold Johnson of Madelia. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bertha on Dec. 29, 1999; and brother, Delmar "Boots" Muehlbauer on Dec. 29, 2002.
Donald R. Konz
Donald Raymond Konz, 45, Welcome, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital. Memorial services were Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with interment in the church cemetery. Urn bearer was Travis Konz. Sharon Carr was organist for the service. Soloist and song leader was Thomas Hirsch and lector was Aran Augustin. Gift bearers were Don's nieces and nephews. Kramer Family Funeral Home of Welcome handled the arrangements.
Donald was born Oct. 8, 1957, the son of George and Mary (Gaspar) Konz, in Sleepy Eye. He received his education in Sleepy Eye, where he lived for many years before moving to Welcome. Don was employed as a welder for eight years, later becoming a Union Carpenter for 1832 until the time of his death. He greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time.
Donald is survived by his son, Travis Konz of Bingham Lake; mother, Mary Konz of Sleepy Eye; brothers, John and wife Alyce Konz of New Ulm, Leo Konz of St. Paul, Vincent and wife Sandy Konz, Steven and wife Denise Konz, Mark and wife Donna Konz, and Ronald and wife Ann Konz, all of Sleepy Eye; sisters, Karen and husband Dennis Sieve of Richfield, Bernice and husband Reed Bolander of Lakeville, Phyllis and husband Kevin Augustin of Sleepy Eye, Marie and husband Bob Mellum of New London, Sue and husband David Warvin of Owatonna, Joan Rasmussen and friend Bill Arndt of Mankato, and Pamela Konz of Sleepy Eye; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, George Konz; sister, Teresa Konz and other relatives.
Bertha A. Kuelbs
Bertha A. Kuelbs, 93, North Mankato, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato. Funeral services were Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with interment in the church cemetery. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Ted was born Nov. 25, 1918, in New Ulm to T.W. and Clara (Dorn) Manderfeld. He graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1937. Ted was a Veteran of WWII, serving from 1941-1945. He served in the Brown County Treasurer's office for 34 years, seven as the deputy to Albert L. Gag, and the remainder as elected Brown County Treasurer, retiring in 1980. Ted served as president of the Minnesota County Treasurer of the Year in 1980. He served on the New Ulm Police Commission for seven years. Ted was a member of the Albert Nagel Post 1648 VFW, the Seifert-Bianchi Post 132 American Legion, St. John's Court of the Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Patrick's Council of the Knights of Columbus, Junior Pioneers, New Ulm Country Club and Turner Hall, all in New Ulm. He was a member of the Veterans Funeral Detail, a ten-year volunteer for the Brown County Transportation Program, a 50-year member of the American Legion Drill Team and a lifetime member of the Cathedral parish. Ted was an excellent athlete and an avid sports fan. He was inducted into the New Ulm American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame and the New Ulm Bowling Association Hall of Fame.
Ted is survived by his wife, Marcie of New Ulm; daughters, Kay Lytle of Bloomington, and Nancy Manderfeld of Eden Prairie; step-daughter, Cindy Borth of New Ulm; grandchildren, Stephanie and husband Dan Bakke of Brooklyn Park, and Angela and husband Michael Watschke of Eagan; great-grandchildren, Samuel and Benjamin Bakke and Grace Watschke; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stan and wife Fran Manderfeld of New Ulm, and Ray and wife Dorothy Manderfeld of New Ulm; sister, Lorraine Williams of Mankato; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by is parents; first wife, Lorraine; brother, Jerome "Jack" and wife, Neva Manderfeld of Vancouver, Wash.; sister, Adeline and husband Lloyd Werner of New Ulm; brother-in-law, Roger Williams of Mankato; and niece, Judy Klooster of Mankato.
