Justin Michael Rosa
Justin Michael Rosa was born on July 17, 1989 to Randy and Lavonda Rosa in South St. Paul. He attended Willow River High School as was involved in the track team. Justin enjoyed: hunting, fishing, playing football, and loved Corvettes. He also enjoyed tinkering and fixing things with his mechanical skills; he wanted to become a mechanic and someday restore his 1966 Corvette, which was his favorite car.
He is survived by his parents, Randy and Lavonda of Sturgeon Lake; three brothers: Cory, Jesse, and Joshua, all of Sturgeon Lake. Two sisters: Billie Jo of Sturgeon Lake and Crystal of Willow River; Maternal grandfather, Richard Grabau of Willow River; and Paternal grandmother, Esther Rosa of Sandstone; 4 aunts and 6 uncles; many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Wanda Grabau, Glenda Daulton, and Lawrence Rosa. Blessed be his memory.
Services were held June 6, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. at Hansen-Mankie Funeral Home, Sandstone, MN. Rev. Tom Aubrey officiated. Soloist was John Peters. Pallbearers were: Tony Rosa, Cory Rosa, Steven Bierkandt, Jesse Rosa, Jim Rosa and Jim Noski.
Interment was at Sunnyside Cemetery, Willow River, MN. Arrangements were by Hansen-Mankie Funeral Home, Sandstone, MN.

Pat Chmielewski
Pat Chmielewski (Stolquist), age 68, of Sturgeon Lake, MN passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2003, one day following her 47th wedding anniversary. Devoted in marriage to Florian Chmielewski, State Senator and leader of the Chmielewski Funtime Band.
Pat was a truly loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was committed to the family band, she sewed the band members uniforms and traveled weekly to Duluth for seven years so her four children could receive music lessons; creating the foundation for a long and successful family musical career. A tireless worker, Pat also took care of their family farm, often milking the large herd of dairy cows herself, by hand. She worked as a surgery assistant at St. Mary's Hospital, Duluth.
A devout Catholic, she was an active parishioner for 47 years at St. Isidores Catholic Church, where she and Florian were married in 1956.
Pat is preceded in death by her mother and father, Albert and Emogene Stolquist. She is survived by husband, Florian; sisters: Geri (Gary) Chatfield, Birdie Bennett, MaryLou Harrison; brothers: Danny and Terry (Judy) Stolquist; children: Florian Jr. (Cheryl), Jeff (Mary), Mark (Gina) Chmielewski and Patty (Scott) Devitt; grandchildren: Tony, Tiffany, Jodi, Amanda, Ashley, Amber, Alisha Chmielewski and Nick, Lexi, Kati Devitt.
Mass of Catholic Resurrection will be held in Sturgeon Lake at St. Isidores Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 20, 2003

Laura Gooler Nelson
Laura Gooler Nelson, an 87-year resident of Moose Lake, died on Saturday, September 20, 2003 in Moose Lake.
Laura Luella Gooler was born on August 25, 1916, in Moose Lake, the first child of Paul and Marion (Gagnon) Gooler. The family home was located north of the Mud Creek Road, east of Moose Lake near what is now Highway 35. She was a survivor of the 1918 fire and a graduate of Moose Lake High School, class of 1934.
On February 16, 1941, she married Laurence Nelson of Sturgeon Lake. They settled west of Moose Lake on Highway 73, where Laura would live for the next 60 years.
For 22 years, she worked in the clothing department of the Moose Lake Co-op store.
An avid gardener, Laura devoted her summer evenings to her large flower gardens on the "Moose Lake side" of her country home while her husband tended his half acre of fruits and vegetables on the "Kettle River side" of the house. She was a founding member of the Moose Lake Garden Club and superintendent of the Carlton County Flower Division for 30 years. The Flower Building at the Carlton County Fairgrounds was dedicated to Laura Nelson in 1982.
She was active in Hope Lutheran Church for more than 40 years and a member of Esther Circle. In the 1950's she was a 4-H leader and president of the Moose Lake PTA.
She is survived by her son, Paul Nelson, Santa Monica, CA; 3 sisters: Leah McDermid, Council Bluffs, IA; Pearl Hughes, Spring Valley, MN; Marion Slowinski, Duluth; a brother, Lester Paul (Bud) Gooler, International Falls; four sisters-in-law: Mary Nelson, Moose Lake; Gladys Overland, Sturgeon Lake; Selma Overland, Moose Lake; T. Evelyn Scheibe, Fort Myers, FL and one brother-in-law, Winston Mossberg, Sturgeon Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Marion (Gagnon) Gooler; a sister, Irene Kalm, in 2001; her husband, Laurence Nelson, in 1988 and her daughter-in-law, Susan Nelson, in 1997.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, September 28, beginning at 12:30 with a memorial service to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Moose Lake.

Lorrie Ann Hagen
1953 -2003
Lorrie A. Hagen, age 50, of Cloquet, died suddenly on Sunday, September 21, 2003 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. She was born February 16, 1953 in Cloquet, MN to Philip and Joan (Moy) Fernjack. Lorrie was a lifelong Cloquet resident and graduated from Cloquet Sr. High School in 1971. She worked for the Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet after high school, and later for First Bank in Cloquet. Lorrie was currently working for St. Mary's Duluth Clinic as an occupational health medicine secretary, since 1993. She was united in marriage to James T. Hagen on January 26, 1985 in Cloquet. She enjoyed shopping and visiting with her friends at the Country Peddler.
Lorrie was preceded in death by her father, Philip Fernjack Sr.
She is survived by her husband, James; two sons: T.J. Salo and Dapper Salo both of Minneapolis; one daughter, Amy (Jamie) Pollard of Cloquet; two grandchildren: Garrett Scott and Camden Lee Pollard; her parents, Don and Joan Carlson of Cloquet; two brothers: Phil (Diane) Fernjack of Superior and Mike (Geri) Fernjack of Cloquet; two sisters: Val (Ken) Olson of Duluth and Lynn (Mike) Erickson of Farmington, MN; two step-brothers: Paul (Candee) Carlson of Grand Rapids, MN, and Denny (Shirley) Carlson of Cloquet; two step-sisters: Linda (Jerry) Berglund of Esko, and Beth (Tony) Spencer of Duluth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Visitation resumed on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cloquet with Rev. Dennis Morreim officiating. Pall Bearers were Jack Hagen, Gary Lutter, John Dahl, Gary Johnson, Don Mrozik, Ken Beck, and Dr. Les Riess. Interment services followed at Maple Grove Cemetery in Cloquet. Arrangements were with Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet. In lieu of flowers, memorials were preferred to the American Heart Association. (online guestbook at www. legacy.com)

Nancy Jean Borne Hoover
Nancy Jean Borne Hoover, 82, of Willow River, died Thursday, September 18, 2003, in Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake. She was born June 6, 1921, in Minneapolis to Eugene and Bessie (Culbertson) Borne. Nancy was united in marriage to Harold C. Hoover, Sr., on October 21, 1946, in Minneapolis. She was a member of Easter Star. Nancy was a friend to all animals and had a special love for birds and horses.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Harold C. Hoover, Sr. of Willow River; 3 sons: Harold Hoover, Jr. of Duluth; Clinton (Gretchen) Hoover of Minneapolis and Dean Hoover of Shakopee; sister, Virginia (Don) Bennett of Bakersfield, CA; cousin, Herbert (Lorraine) Chalker of Eden Prairie; 2 grandchildren: Jeremy and Ely Hoover. Paul Radzak, Herbert Chalker, Don Bennett and Shirley Ingle are the Honorary Pall Bearers.
There was a gathering of family and friends, Tuesday, September 23, from 12 until the 1 p.m. memorial service in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake, with Reverend Jan Mehlhoff officiating. Arrangements were with Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.

LaRue I. Ray "Thompson"
LaRue I. Ray "Thompson", age 69, of Barnum, MN, went to meet her Lord on September 12th, 2003.
She was born on July 8, 1934 in Madelia, MN to Walter and Wanda (Rogers) Thompson.
LaRue was preceded in death by her father, Walter Thompson; mother, Wanda (Rogers) Thompson; sister, Faye Nelson; brother, Craig Thompson; and her granddaughter, Patricia (P.J.) Keith.
LaRue is survived by her two sisters, Lucille Dianoski of Barnum, MN and Judy (Terry) Reardon of Lakeville, MN; 6 children: Stephen Ophus of Barnum, MN; Roxanne (Jim) Watson of Lipan, TX; Michael (Jodie) Ophus of Bethel, MN; and Kevin (Roxanne) Ophus of Barnum, MN. LaRue had 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, with services following at 11:00 a.m. at the Barnum Community United Methodist Church in Barnum, MN. Interment service was held immediately following church service at the Sandy Lake Cemetery. A luncheon was held at the Church following the service at Sandy Lake Cemetery. Pall Bearers were Brett Ophus, Shane Ophus, James Ophus, Tyler Ophus, Michael Keith, Ryan Ophus and Trevor Erickson. Honorary Pallbearers were Camden Ophus and Kyle Olson.

Jessie Marie Lundblad
Jessie Marie Lundblad, 93, of Moose Lake, formerly of Barnum, died Thursday, September 18, 2003, in Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. She was born on April 11, 1910 to Jesse and Marie Perry in Faribault where she grew up and attended school. After high school, Jessie attended Winona State Teachers College, where she received her teaching certificate and later taught music in Good Thunder, MN. On June 12, 1934, Jessie married John M. Lundblad in Faribault. In 1948, John and Jessie moved to Barnum where John worked as Superintendent of Barnum School. Jessie was a homemaker through the years and was also a very dedicated member of Barnum Community United Methodist Church, where she directed the choir for several years. She was also a member of Barnum Music Study Club.
Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Lundblad, Sr.; brother, Myron Perry; and sister-in-law, Helen Perry.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, John M. Lundblad, Jr. of Northfield; 2 grandchildren: Jennifer Lundblad and her husband, Eric Emmette of Eagan, and Andrew (Kris) Lundblad of Lakeville; two great-grandchildren: Benjamin and Hannah; three step-grandchildren: Ed "Chip" Reese, Tryggve Reese and Signe Brust; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends to share memories was held Sunday, September 21, 2003 from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. in the Barnum Community United Methodist Church Social Hall in Barnum. In lieu of flowers, memorials were preferred to the Barnum Community Methodist Church Building Fund. Arrangements were with Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake.

WENDLY RUDOLPH "ZIM" ZIMMERMAN
1919-2003
Wendley R. Zimmerman, age 84, of Cloquet, died Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. He was born November 4, 1919 in Willow River Village, MN to Joseph and Elise (Medeke) Zimmerman. He was united in marriage to Margaret Woodburn on June 5, 1954 in Barnum, MN. Wendley was a WWII Army Air Force Veteran and received the Asiatic Campaign Medal and Sharp Shooters Medal. He retired from Diamond International Corp. as a supervisor. Wendley was a member and actively involved in the Cloquet Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder, and the Democratic Party. He had worked as a farmer, auctioneer, and had served as a County Commissioner for Pine County. He was also a member of the Hebert-Kennedy VFW Post 3979 of Cloquet, the American Legion Post and the Disabled American Veterans. Wendley loved his wife, children and grandchildren; and enjoyed gardening, fishing and debating anything.
Wendley was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joseph and Fred Northrup; and one sister, Clara Marihart.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; three daughters: Lynn Tempes, Jill Bartl and Cindy (Bruce) Eknes, all of Cloquet; 5 grandchildren: Tara Tempes, Jessica McCuskey, Daniel Tempes, Jason Bartl and Justin Bartl; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Saturday, December 6, 2003 from 1:00 p.m. until the 2:00 p.m. memorial service at Nelson Funeral Care Chapel in Cloquet, officiated by the Rev. Henry Hanna. Full Military Honors were accorded by the Hebert-Kennedy VFW Post 3979 of Cloquet. Inurnment was held at Maple Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Friends of Animals in memory of his dog, "Mitzie". Arrangements are with Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet.
