Randy Colbert

Randy F. Colbert, 51, of Cambridge, died September 10, 2004 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital.

A Funeral Mass was held Sept. 13 from Christ The King Catholic Church with Father James Hahn officiating. Cantor was DeAnna Kuhn. Organist was Mary Kuhn. Pallbearers were Jerry, Arnie, Ron, and Steve Colbert, Marilyn Gonsalves and Jan Strassburg.

He was born May 5, 1953 in New Brighton, MN to Ray and Cecelia (Arnold) Colbert. During his lifetime, he lived in Bradford where his favorite people surrounded him. He loved his family, his friends, his home, his land, his dogs, his pole barns, his cars and trucks, and his life. And we all deeply loved him.

He is survived by his brothers Jerry (Cindy) of Andover; Arnie (Vanessa) of Safety Harbor, FL; Ron (Keri) of Andover; Steve (Julie) of Hibbing; sisters Marilyn (Sandy) Gonsalves of San Jose, CA: and Jan (Tom) Strassburg of Princeton.

Arrangements were with Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home in Cambridge.

Edna Hyde

Edna Lorraine (Anderson) Hyde, 75, of Isanti, formerly of Cokato, died September 4, 2004 at her home, surrounded by her loving family, and following a brief battle with cancer.

Services were held Sept. 9 at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cokato with Rev. David Franzmeier of Cambridge and Rev. David Sorensen of Cokato officiating. Pallbearers were Elmer Forsman, Dennis Nelson, Mike Kenney, Gordon Anderson, Robert Seel, and Gary Hyde. Honorary bearers were Edna’s grandchildren, Michael and Stefanie Anderson, Amy Dvorak, and Amber Pool. Interment was in Cokato Cemetery.

She was born April 12, 1929 in Cokato, to William and Lempi (Johnson) Forsman and baptized and confirmed at Cokato Finnish Apostolic Church. She attended Beaver Dam School, Cokato, through the 10th grade. At 16 years of age, she left school to go to work in Minneapolis. Edna had an upholstery business in her own home for 18 years. She also was a farmer for almost all her adult life, which she sincerely enjoyed, especially the cows. Her interests included gardening, crafts, painting and drawing. She loved her children and grandchildren and they were the highlight of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Francis Anderson; and brothers, Clarence and Floyd Forsman.

Edna is survived by husband Glenn Hyde of Isanti; children, Kathy (Mark) Hendrickson of Cokato, and David (Sandy) Anderson of Wynne, AR.; four grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn (Mike) Kenney of Baxter, Florence (Dennis) Nelson of Cloquet; and brother, Elmer (Norma) Forsman of Hoyt Lakes.

Bradley Hanson

Bradley Joseph Hanson, 27, of Cambridge died September 11, 2004 the result of an auto accident near Onamia.

Services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17 from Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home in Cambridge with Rev. Harry Eklund officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Richard and Jeffery Hanson, Patrick O’Neil, Joe Benson, Joel Swanson and Joe Sturh.

He was born April 21, 1977 in Chisago City, MN the oldest child of Richard and Marlene (Swanson) Hanson. He grew up in Spencer Brook, attended grade school in Princeton and graduated from Princeton High School in 1996. He worked for a few years at Cambridge Metals and Plastics and also at the Rum River Pheasant Club. Brad enjoyed hunting, four wheeling, snowmobiling, paint ball, and recently began rock climbing. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes and won a few tournaments. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Marlo Swanson, Earl and Evelyn Hanson.

Brad is survived by his parents Richard and Marlene Hanson of Cambridge, brothers Richard Hanson Jr. of Tacoma, WA; Jeff Hanson and sister Crystal Hanson both of Cambridge; half-brother Claud Hanson of Pine City; half-sister Jenny Hanson of New York and Mankato and married Johannes Moebius June 20, 1931 at Salem Lutheran Church in Dalbo. They lived in Northeast Minneapolis and Roseville before moving to Wyanett Township near Dalbo in 1973. While in Roseville, they had acreage, grew tomatoes, strawberries and raspberries and raised chickens and rabbits for sale. They also had businesses in welding and camper rental. They traveled the United States and camped, fished and hunted in California and married Harold R. Bell in 1952. Harold passed away in 1973. Ethel later moved to Bloomington, MN in 1990 and married Walter C. Schweitzer.

She was preceded in death by her brother Robert W. Thornberg.

She is survived by her brothers, J. Edward Thornberg of Braham, MN and Herbert W. Thornberg of Cambridge, MN.

Ethel was a bright, witty, educated woman who will be missed by her many nieces and nephews.

Victor Fanth

Victor Ralph Fanth, 66, of Cambridge, went home to the Lord September 1, 2004 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, with his children at his side, after suffering a sudden heart attack.

A funeral and celebration of his life was held Sept. 4 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in East Bethel with Pastor Steven Melander officiating. Pallbearers were Jason and Matthew Fanth, John Kennedy, Joe and Luke Ostrander and Kyle VanZandt-Fanth. A memorial service and interment of ashes will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 18 at Remer Cemetery, Remer, MN.

Victor was born May 24, 1938 at Davenport, Minnesota, residing in St. Paul, where their third child, Shelly, was born. Victor worked for General Tire for the next several years. He then met Linda (Fritzke) VanZandt in 1968 and they were married July 24, 1971. He adopted Linda’s four children, Robert, Daniel, Scott and Gina. They made their home in St. Paul. He began working as a Union Carpenter and was a member of the Carpenter’s and Joiners Union, Local 1644 for the past 34 years. On August 10, 1974 Linda and Victor had a son, Victor Michael, Jr. In 1978 they moved to a farm in Hill City. In 1982 they moved to White Bear Lake. They made their final move to Cambridge in 1995 and he resided there until his death. Vic enjoyed hunting, fishing, garage sales, auctions, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents, Ruby and Milton Fanth; an infant brother; and by his foster brother, Charlie.

He is survived by his first wife, Jackie Landrith of Longville; his second wife of 27 years, Linda Fanth of Cambridge; his eight children, Robert (Julie) VanZandt-Fanth of Finland; Robin (Timothy) Ostrander of Stacy; Daniel (Charlyne) Fanth of Bennettville; Thomas (Charlotte) Fanth of Hill City; Scott (Darla) VanZandt-Fanth of Minnetonka; Gina (Thomas) Kennedy of Isanti; Shelly Fanth of Longville; Victor M. (Jodi) Fanth of Cambridge; and Jennifer (Charles) Hauck (granddaughter) of Fort Irwin, CA; sisters, Judy (Hank) Johns of Grand Rapids; Beverly (Gordon) Taylor of Cohasset; Linda (Gary) Fillingerof Lockridge, Minnesota. They eventually settled in Willow River, MN. where she married Theodore Thompson in May 1992, daughter Donna Stockamp in June 1996, and several grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Douglas Thompson of Methow, WA; Larry (Vonnie) Ohio to Albert and Edith Rosenthal. She was raised and attended school in Dayton. In 1948 she moved to Middletown, Minnesota to be closer to her son, Robert Venneman, and family. Mildred has been a resident of Grandview Christian Home since 1987. As a young woman she was a Western Union teletype operator, later worked as a secretary, and then worked in various manufacturing plants. Mildred attended South Isanti Baptist Church when she was able and since moving to Grandview she became an avid Twins and Vikings fan.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Rosenthal.

She is survived by her son, Pastor Robert (Tina) Venneman of Cambridge; daughter, Judy Brown of Dayton, Minnesota with her parents. She married Benjamin Smith January 23, 1947 and they lived in Minneapolis after marrying, helping her brother in a tailor shop. They moved to Grasston for a few years and then to Braham where they owned and operated businesses. Lou and Benny then bought a farm in St. Francis where they lived for many years. Louise was so loved by her family, including three generations of nieces and nephews. Everyone loved going to Lou’s house because she treated everyone so special. She would bake and cook the best pot roasts. A special treat remembered by everyone was her malts and milkshakes.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband Benny Smith; and son Kyle Croy Smith.

Lou is survived by her sons, Byron and Wynn; her only grandson Patrick Kyle Smith; sisters Olive Strand of Concord, CA, Blanche (Roger) Mongsene of Antioch, CA and Joyce (Lyle) Graham of Cambridge.

Wilbert Wiese

Wilbert Wiese was born August 8, 1915 to Leo and Martha (Fischer) Wiese in Cambridge, MN. At the age of three, the family moved to rural Isanti where he attended school and graduated eighth grade. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John Lutheran Church, Bradford. Wilbert married Lillian Krans February 8, 1941. The Lord blessed this marriage with much happiness as they made their home in rural Cambridge from 1946-1969 when they moved to rural Isanti where he lived until December 2003, at which time he moved to Cambridge Health Care Center where he lived until the time of his death. Wilbert worked for Krueger Bros. in rural North Branch until entering the Army in November 1942 and served until July 1945 where he received three battle stars, an honorable discharge, and received the Purple Heart after being wounded. Wilbert served in Italy, France, Germany, and England under Gen. George Patton. Wilbert was a lifetime member of the North Branch VFW Chapter 1624 and DAV Chapter 1. After returning from the service, Wilbert worked for Cambridge Rambler and Greenberg Implement, both in Cambridge. At the time of his death, Wilbert was a member in good standing of St. John Lutheran Church, rural North Branch, where he had held a number of offices and was a member of a number of boards and committees. Death came to Wilbert on October 4, 2004 at the age of 89.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian; one daughter and one granddaughter.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Lorne) Kittelson of Isanti; grandchildren, Sherri of St. Paul, Steven and Scott of rural Isanti; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Peterson of Fridley, Gladys Challstrom of Winterhaven, FL.

Funeral services were held Oct. 8 at St. John Lutheran Church, North Branch, with Pastor Kevin Zellers officiating. Organist was Elena Piastro. Casket bearers were Mark, Bruce, and Lyle Splittstoser, David Barstow, Pat Carline, and Don Boll. Color guard were members of the North Branch VFW. Interment was at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural North Branch. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Strike Funeral Home, Isanti Chapel.

Margaret Gutzkow

Memorial services for Margaret Lela Gutzkow, 86, of Cambridge who died Oct. at Cambridge Health Care Center, were held October 9, 2004 at Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church in Rush Point with Rev. Keith Kolzow officiating. Music was provided by organist Janice Johnson and vocalist Jon Scheele. Interment was in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

She was born January 19, 1918 in Cambridge, MN to William and Edna Klemz. She married Ernest Gutzkow April 11, 1938 at Minister of the Gospel Church in Hastings, MN. and they moved to Rock Creek, MN where they operated the Three Way Inn until 1941. In 1941, they moved to St. Paul, MN where Ernie worked at American Brake Shoe Foundry until 1948. In 1948, they made their home in Greeley, MN. In 1959, they opened and operated Ernie’s Bait Shop in Cambridge, MN and moved to Cambridge in 1961. Ernie and Margaret retired together in 1975 and continued to live in Cambridge.

She was preceded in death by sisters Ruth Gustafason, Lucille Dawson, Jean Steffenhagen and Hazel Rumpel and brothers Donald Klemz, Wilbur Klemz and James Klemz.

She is survived by her husband Ernie; daughters Kathy Pangerl of Cambridge, MN and Jean Gutzkow of St. Louis Park and son Gerry Gutzkow of Cambridge; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister Alice Holmblad of Isanti; brother Dale (Pat) Klemz of Overland Park, Kansas; brothers-in-law John Steffenhagen and Harvey Rumpel; sister-in-law Lorraine Klemz; and special niece Donna Ganz of Rice, MN.

Arrangements by Rock Mankie Burial and Cremation Service of Braham, MN.
