Meta Haberkorn
Meta H. Haberkorn, age 84, a resident of Little Falls, MN, formerly of Long Prairie, MN, died February 14, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.
Funeral services were held February 16 at Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls with the Rev. Martin Langemo officiating. Burial was in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Long Prairie.
Meta H. Haberkorn was born on August 27, 1913, in Hartford Township, Todd County, MN, to the late August and Ella (Tesch) Schmeckel. She grew up in Hartford Township north of Long Prairie. She attended country school and Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Long Prairie High School. She was united in marriage to Erich A. Haberkorn on September 24, 1935, in Long Prairie. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in Reynolds Township and then relocated in 1942 to Hartford Township in Todd County and farmed there. The couple moved to a farm in Belle Prairie Township, Morrison County. Erich died on March 16, 1992, and Meta continued living on the farm up to the time of her death. While living near Long Prairie, Meta was active in Trinity Lutheran Church where she was involved in Ladies Aid and teaching Sunday School. She was also involved in 4-H, the Homemakers Group through the Todd County Extension office and was a member of the Browerville Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Prairie where she was baptized and confirmed.
Survivors include her sons, Ervin Haberkorn of Little Falls and Norman Haberkorn and wife Shirley of Long Prairie; daughter, LuVern Farber and husband Roger of Little Falls; stepsister, Mabel Glaske of Reno, NV; seven grandchildren, Carlene Lange, Sharon Farber, John Haberkorn, Roslyn Mogard, Sarah Holmquist, Stephanie Haberkorn and Jessica Haberkorn and four great-grandchildren, Christopher and Aman-da Lange and Alex and Austin Mogard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erich; parents and an infant daughter, Harriet.
Casketbearers were Stephanie Haberkorn, John Haberkorn, Marty Holmquist, Sharon Farber, Carlene Lange and Mark Lange.

Elizabeth Szczodroski
Elizabeth (Betty) Szczodroski, age 95, a resident of St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls, MN, died February 1, 1998.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held February 4 at the Brenny-Simonet Funeral Home in Little Falls with Father Nick Lands-berger officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Elizabeth was born in Rice, MN, on November 17, 1902, to Frank and Stella (Lentner) Stellmach. She married Anthony Szczodroski in Gilman, MN, in 1924. They owned a boarding house in Pontiac, MI, for many years. The couple moved to the rural Little Falls area where they worked on the farm. They retired and moved to the city of Little Falls.
Survivors include her son, Ken Szczodroski of Carson City, NV; two sisters, Evelyn Modejeski of Minneapolis, MN, and Rita Jedlicki of Rice, MN; three grandchildren, Gail Evans and David and Pat Szczodroski.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony; three brothers, Otto, Roman and Law-rence and one sister, Marcella.

Alphonse Weiss
Alphonse N. Weiss, age 92, a resident of St. Otto’s Care Center, Little Falls, MN, died January 30, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held February 3 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls, with Father Nick Landsberger officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Alphonse was born and raised in Pierz, MN, on September 29, 1905, to Charles and Mary (Grell) Weiss. He was united in marriage to Rosabella (McGuire) Weiss on September 18, 1934, in Little Falls. He then worked for Minnesota to Port Angeles in 1954 and was active with the Eagles and Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliaries, Daughters of the American Revolution and Navy Mothers.
Survivors include son, Gerald of Port Angeles; daughters, Elaine Cluka of Little Falls, MN, and Despo Storstad of Deerwood, MN; sister, Edna Dayton of Port Angeles and numerous grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, two brothers and two sisters.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Little Falls at St. Gabriel’s Hospital.

Laura Stoneberg
Laura Ann Stoneberg, age 88, a resident of Cambridge, MN, died January 29, 1998, at the Cambridge Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held February 2 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, MN, with Father John Richter officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
Laura was born November 10, 1909, in Kidder County, ND, to John and Katie (Miller) Hesch. On May 9, 1933, she married Rodney Stoneberg at St. Michael’s Church in Buckman, MN. Moving to Sleepy Eye in 1942, Laura became a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and the Catholic Aid Association. She was also very involved with the Foster Grandparents Program and enjoyed spending time reading, visiting the sick and the elderly and working with children with special needs.
Survivors include son, John Stoneberg of Sleepy Eye; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Jerry Fromm of Cambridge; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney in 1981 and sons, Dennis in 1984 and Jerry in 1997.
Casketbearers were Dan Fromm, Tim Fromm, Mark Stoneberg, Rick Fromm, Brad Stoneberg and Doug Stoneberg.

Hildegarde Miller
Hildegarde Anna Miller, age 82, a long-time resident of Little Falls, MN, and retired teacher of over 40 years in the Little Falls and Swanville School Districts, died January 31, 1998, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.
Funeral services were held February 5 at Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls with the Rev. Martin Langemo officiating. Burial was in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in rural Swanville, MN.
Hildegarde was born October 5, 1915, in Parker Township and attended Swanville School District 118. She graduated from the class of 1934. Following her high school education she attended Moorhead Teachers College. In the fall of 1936, Hildegarde began her teaching career in the rural schools of Morrison County where she taught for 10 years. From 1946 to 1951, she taught at Lincoln Elementary School in Little Falls and, from 1951 to 1979, at Lindbergh Elementary School in Little Falls. During this time Hildegarde taught special reading classes to children and served as the Little Falls School District Reading Coor-dinator. In 1955 she received her Bachelor of Science Degree from St. Cloud State University and, in the fall of 1962, received her Masters Degree. Hildegarde retired in 1979. She enjoyed traveling the United States and Europe, made frequent visits to her family members throughout the country and cared for her brothersand sisters when they were ill. She was an avid bridge player which she played every Tuesday and Thursday with her card groups. Hildegarde will be missed by her family, friends and colleagues. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls, Zion Chancel Circle, Zion Morning Bible Study Class, Mary Martha Circle, Little Falls Education Association, Little Falls Area Retired Educators Association, Minnesota, Retired Teachers Association, Friends of the Little Falls Carnegie Library, Alpha Delta Kappa, P.E.O. Chapter BB and a former member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville where she taught Sunday School.
Survivors includenieces and nephews, Jeannie Scifres and husband Tom of Edmond, OK, Bonnie Gentry of Waite Park, MN, Barbara Gehle and husband Daniel of Eagle Bend, MN, Doris Scott and husband Frank of Sauk Centre, MN, Audrey Thomaier and husband Andy of Fargo, ND, Tom White and wife Frankie of Durango, CO, Terry White and wife Rosalind of Little Rock, AK, Loran Miller and wife Joan of McGregor, MN, and Roger Kuehn of Antioch, CA, and 14 great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bruno and Walter Miller; sisters, Alice Colgan, Selma Norman, Ruth Miller and Erna White.
Casketbearers were Tom White, Terry White, Roger Kuehn, Tom Scifres, Jerry Knafala and Marvin Zastrow.
