Larry Even
Larry Even, age 77, a resident of St. Cloud, MN, died July 14, 1998, at his home.
Funeral services were held July 18 at Immaculate Conception Church in Rice with Rev. Al Stangl and Rev. David Maciej officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Larry Even was born October 26, 1920, in Forman, ND, to John Baptist and Margaret (Ebersviller) Even. He married Wayva Mathews on July 10, 1945, in Hot Springs, SD. He was a manager of Benton Co-op Telephone Co. from 1957-1984. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Rice American Legion Post 473, Rice Lions Club, and the N.T.C.A. He was a Navy veteran of WWII.
Survivors include his sons and daughters, Richard of Princeton, TX, and Sandra of Coon Rapids, MN; sisters, Marie Loch of Forman, ND, Veronica Torgeson of Breckenridge, and Gertrude Johnson of Brecken-ridge; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wayva on April 13, 1984; brothers, Ralph, Wilfird, and John; sister, Doris Remme; and granddaughter, Robin Kay Even.
Casketbearers were Richard, Michael, Duane, Randy, David, Tye, and Ryan Even and Richard Beastrom.

Ernest O’Dell
Ernest O’Dell, age 75, a resident of Motley, MN, died July 16, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services were held July 18, at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN, with Reverend Allen Westover officiating. Burial was in the Mount Nebo Cemetery in Hewitt, MN.
Ernest O’Dell was born October 23, 1922, in Necedah, WI, son of the late Emery and Mayme (Saund-ers) O’Dell. He worked in home construction in TX; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gertrude Prozinski
Gertrude “Gert” Prozinski, age 81, a resident of Flensburg, MN, died July 19, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held July 22 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flensburg with Father Tony Kroll officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Gertrude was born February 17, 1917, in Pike Creek Township, MN, to Frank J. and Agnes (Stoltman) Zilka. She grew up on the family farm, and attended District #31 school. She also attended Beauty College in St. Cloud. She worked in Rockford, IL, and then returned to the Flensburg area. Gert was united in marriage to Theodore Prozinski on September 4, 1945, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flensburg. The couple farmed in Culdrum Township until Ted’s death in 1969. In 1971, Gert moved to Flensburg, and resided there until her death. She enjoyed gardening, canning, collecting and trying new recipes, embroidery work, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. Gert was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Rosary Sodality.
Survivors include her two daughters, Gail and husband Ron Johnson of Randall, MN, and Linda and husband Pat Roddy of St. Michael, MN; brothers, Stanley and Isadore Zilka of Flensburg; sisters, Marcella Matteson of Excelsior, MN, and Teresa Zilka of Chanhassen, MN; four grandchildren, Ryan Johnson, Heather, Nicole and Shannon Roddy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted on October 24, 1969; son, Jerel on June 10, 1967, and sister, Lucille Zilka on April 19, 1995.
Pallbearers were Jerelyn Hopkins, Jeanine Sandberg, Mike Domish, Jim and Kevin Zilka, and Pete Hanowski.
Honorary pallbearers were Ryan Johnson, Heather,Nicole and Shannon Roddy.

Bernadine Bertelt
Bernadine Bertelt, age 90, a resident of Pierz, MN, died July 21, 1998, at St. Mary’s Villa in Pierz.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held July 24 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman, MN, with Father Ron Dockendorf and Father Ken Brenny con-celebrating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Bernadine was born October 8, 1907, in Buckman, to Fred andMagdeline (Fuchs) Herwers. She was united in marriage with Henry Bertelt on September 11, 1933, in Buckman. They farmed all their lives near Buckman and moved into Buckman after their retirement. Bernadine was a member of Christian Mothers.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry in 1992; a brother Joseph; sisters, Sr. Corsina Herwers, Sr. Agnes Herwers, Tillie Schirmers, and Marie Ziemetz.
Honorary casketbearers were Dellie Brausen, Marie Collins, Ceil Loidolt, Clara Lust, Gloria Lanners, and Florence Mueller.
Casketbearers were Steve Mueller, Joe Lanners, Horst Hanneken, Fred Voss, Steve Voss, and Don King.

Father Theodore Peterka
Father Theodore Peterka, age 90, died July 16, 1998, at St. Cloud Hospital.
He had served the Diocese of St. Cloud, MN, for more than 36 years, from his ordination in 1947 until his retirement from active ministry in 1983. Bishop John Kinney celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial July 20 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, St. Cloud. Burial followed at Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud.
Father Peterka was born July 19, 1908, in Wahpeton, N.D. He was the son of Frank and Mary Theresa (Kaheleck) Peterka. Father Peterka attended public grade school in Wahpeton, and obtained his secondary education at Salvatorian Prep School in Milwaukee, WI. He attended St. John’s Seminar in Collegeville, MN, and was ordained by Bishop Joseph F. Busch at St. Mary’s Cathedral on May 31, 1947. Father Peterka celebrated his First Mass the next day at St. John’s Church in Wahpeton. Father Peterka’s assignments included St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Long Prairie, St. Theresa’s Church, Donnelly, Sacred Heart Church, Sauk Rapids, St. Olaf’s Church, Elbow Lake, St. Joseph’s Church, Grey Eagle, St. Joseph’s Church, Clarissa, St. Ann’s Church, Brandon, St. Peter’s Church, Dumont, St. Francis Hospital, Breckenridge, St. Olaf’s Church, Elbow Lake, Holy Cross Church, North Prairie, St. Raphael’s Rest Home, St. Cloud, Country Manor Nursing Home, Sartell and St. Francis Xaiver Church, Sartell. He retired from active ministry on November 1, 1983, for health reasons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Philip, Leo, George, Martin, John and Paul, and three sisters, Rose, Helen and Mary.

John Hamm
John Hamm, age 31, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died July 17, 1998, in Bemidji, MN, following a car accident.
Funeral services were held July 22 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Menominee, MI, with Father Patrick Wisneske officiating. Burial was in the Niagara Cemetery in Niagara, WI.
Hamm was born May 11, 1967, in Rhinelander, WI, to Robert and Sue Hamm. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
Survivors include a son, Ian Hamm of Little Falls; his parents, Robert and Sue Hamm of Menominee; four sisters, Mary (Michael) Babinec of Tampa, FL, Lynn (John) Redash of New Hampshire, before moving back to Minnesota.
Survivors include his wife; son, Thomas Jr. of Beach Park, IL; and sisters, Joan Morris of Pocatello, ID, and Patricia Schroeder of Little Falls.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Warren “Buzz”; and infant sister, Rochelle.

Opal Zehlke
Opal M. Zehlke, age 81, a resident of Long Prairie, MN, formerly of Royalton, MN, died July 22, 1998, at the Long Prairie Nursing Home in Long Prairie.
Funeral services were held July 25 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls with the Rev. Suzane Cekalla officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls.
Opal was born October 6, 1916, in Mitchell, SD, to the late William and Gertrude (Hendricks) Zehlke. She grew up and attended country school in Mitchell, graduating from Plano High School. Opal met and married Charles Zehlke on June 8, 1940, in Harrington, NE. The couple resided in Harrington until 1947 when they moved to the Buckman and Royalton area. She lived in the Buckman and Royalton area until becoming a resident of the Long Prairie Nursing Home in December, 1994, where she resided until her death. Opal enjoyed crocheting, gardening, baking and her family.
Survivors include her son, Charles Zehlke of Royalton; daughters, Margaret Zehlke of Albertville, MN, and Kay Prather and husband Dean of Clarissa, MN; sister, Maude Harris of Mitchell, SD; three grandsons and a granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles on July 12, 1976; parents; brothers, John, Bill and Barney Zehlke; and sisters, Marie, Kathryn, Lena, Elizabeth, Ann, Gertrude and Eloise.
Casketbearers were Gerald Perleberg, Walter Masog, Ervin Lardy, Owen Prather, Adam Prather and Brian Prather.

Gertrude Prozinski
Gertrude “Gert” Prozinski, age 81, a resident of Flensburg, MN, died July 19, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.

Loretta Trettel
Loretta Trettel, age 77, a resident of Royalton, MN, died August 7, 1998, at her home.
Mass of Christian Burial was August 11 at Holy Cross Church in North Prairie, MN, with Father Silverius Schmitt officiating. Burial was in the Holy Cross North Prairie Cemetery.
Loretta was born November 11, 1920, in Bowlus, MN, to Paul and Bertha (Barton) Fussy. She lived and worked in Columbia Heights, MN, for 10 years. On May 6, 1952, she married Carl Trettel. Since then, they’ve lived and worked on their farm near Royalton and, “she arose each day and offered her day’s work for the honor and glory of God.” She was a member of the Christian Mothers and Holy Cross Church in North Prairie.
Survivors include her husband Carl Trettel; daughter, Carolyn Becher and her husband Gene of Paynesville, MN; son, Leo Trettel and wife Cindi of Royalton; daughter, Theresia Sutton and husband Dave of Royalton; brothers, Donald Fussy and wife Delores of Bowlus and Melvin Fussy and wife Karen of Richfield, MN; grandchildren, Sarah Weinand, Paul Weinand, Diana Trettel, Keith Trettel, Daniel Sutton, Stephanie Trettel, and Adrian Trettel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Mary, and her infant sister Lois.
Casketbearers were Cindi Trettel, Gene Becher, Dave Sutton, Sarah Weinand, Paul Weinand, Diana Trettel, Keith Trettel, Daniel Sutton, Stephanie Trettel, and Adrian Trettel.
