Ila M. Pfeiffer
Ila M. Pfeiffer, age 70, a resident of Little Falls, MN, formerly of Swanville, MN, died October 18, 1998, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services were October 21 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville with Rev. John O. Grein officiating. Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, near Swanville.
Ila M. Pfeiffer was born April 5, 1928, in Johnson, MN, to the late Henry and Lydia (Baak) Karstens. The family moved to Culdrum Township, near Swanville, when Ila was a young girl. She grew up in Culdrum Township and attended country school. Ila was united in marriage to Verdell W. Pfeiffer on June 14, 1947, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Culdrum Township. The couple farmed in Culdrum Township, four miles north of Swanville, until retiring. Ila continued to live on the family farm until coming to reside at Pine Grove Manor in Little Falls in 1997. Ila enjoyed crocheting, sewing, baking, listening to book tapes, playing cards, bowling and visiting with friends. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Swanville and the church Ladies Aid and Evening Circle.
Survivors include sons, Alan Pfeiffer and wife Vicki of Auburn, WA, Bruce Pfeiffer and wife Debbie of Swanville, Lynn Pfeiffer and wife Sharon of Kent, WA and Lyle Pfeiffer and wife Christine of Burtrum, MN; daughters, Sandy Wassall and husband Jim of Las Vegas, NV, Debbie Braegelmann and husband Stephen of Roy, WA, Pamela Farrow and husband Daniel of Burtrum and Karla Mueller and husband Rodney of Baxter, MN; brothers, Wallace Karstens and wife Helene of New Ulm, MN, Arnold Karstens of Spring Park, MN; sisters, Eva Kokesch and husband Harold of Spring Park, MN, Bernice Fischer and husband Eddie of Gibbon, MN, Marlene Albrecht and husband Warren of Mankato, MN and Delores Kokesch and husband Eddie of Gibbon; and, 16 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Verdell, on November 18, 1995, parents, three brothers, Everett, Orval and Henry Karstens, Jr.
Pallbearers were Robert Mueller, Kevin, Steven and Michelle Pfeiffer, Mathew Farrow and Nancy Ludewig.

Marie Doucette
Marie Alvina Doucette, age 85, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died October 14, 1998, at the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls.
Funeral services were held October 17, at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls with Rev. Martin Langemo officiating. Burial was in Immanuel Cemetery in Swanville, MN.
Marie Alvina Doucette was born June 14, 1913, in Culdrum Town-ship, Morrison County, MN, to the late Fredrick and Mary (Rahn)Axel. She grew up in Culdrum Township and attended Culdrum Township Country School #60. She was united in marriage to Clarence Doucette on September 20, 1947, in Little Falls, MN. The couple made their home in the Little Falls area. She worked many different types of jobs in the Little Falls area. Clarence passed away in 1969. Marie continued living in the Little Falls area. In the fall of 1982, Marie entered the Lutheran Care Center where she resided until her death. Marie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, cooking and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her sons, Marv Axel and wife Pat of Coon Rapids, MN, Eugene Doucette and wife Julie of Hutchinson, MN, Dan Doucette and wife Nancy of Little Falls; daughters, Darlene Leuthold and husband Steve of Lawrence, KS, Betty Perieff and husband Boris of Foster City, CA; grandchildren, Tammy, Michael, Eric, Micahel, Rachel and Amanda; great-grandchildren, Casandra, Desiree and Spencer; great-great-grandchildren, Gage and Kaitlyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence; brothers, Ernest, Otto, Arthur, Ed and Herbert Axel; sister, Erma Hanson and three infant children.
Pallbearers were Michael Doucette, Eric Leuthold, Kevin Snow, Scott Snow, Tammy Schmidt and Rachel Doucette.

Laurette D. Edin
Laurette Dessie Edin, age 95, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died October 16, 1998, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.
Funeral services were held October 19, at the First United Church in Little Falls with the Rev. Richard Celley officiating. Burial was in the Wadena City Cemetery in Wadena, MN.
Laurette D. Edin was born July 17, 1903, in Foxhome, MN. As a young girl, her family lived in Foxhome, but later moved to Staples, MN, where she atended and graduated from Staples High School. After high school, Laurette attended and graduated from Normal Teachers Training at Staples. In later years, she received her teaching degree from St. Cloud State Teachers College. She taught school for 20 years in the rural schools around the Staples and Riverton, MN areas. Laurette was united in marriage to Dewey G. Edin on December 22, 1924. Together they made their home in Wadena County, rural Staples area, where they farmed for 35 years. After retiring from farming, Laurette and Dewey made their summer home in Bay Lake, MN and wintered in Mesa, AZ. Dewey passed away on March 6, 1983. In 1985 Laurette moved to Little Falls and lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Ivan Sanders and, on March 5, 1995, she became a resident of St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls where she resided until her death. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Deerwood, MN.
Survivors include her daughter, Dorothy Sanders and husband Ivan of Little Falls; son, Glenn Edin and wife Phyllis of Owatonna, MN; son-in-law, Arlen Bartels of Deerwood, MN; sister-in-law, Emma Edin of Orono, MN; grandchildren, Maureen Nelson, Dr. Adrian Sanders, Kent Sanders, Scott Edin, Pamela Murphy, Debra Brady, Daniel Bartels, DeAnn Hahn and David Bartels; 21 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey, on March 6, 1983; daughter, Ione J. Bartels on November 17, 1994, and a great-grandson, Bryan Edin.
Casketbearers were her grandchildren.

Lenora M. Pietz
Lenora Margaret Pietz, age 84, a resident of Motley, MN, died October 15, 1998, at the Greater Staples Care Center.
Funeral services were held October 19 at First Lutheran Church in Pillager, MN, with Reverend James Almquist officiating. Burial followed in Wildwood Cemetery in Pillager.
Lenora was born June 4, 1914, in Jamestown, ND, to the late James and Johanna (Buskness) Fornshell. She grew up and attended school at Buffalo, MN, and later moved to Osseo, MN, and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on February 22, 1931. She moved to the Pillager area and married Emil Pietz on October 18, 1933. The couple farmed many years in the Bridgeman, MN, area. They later moved into the town of Pillager where Lenora worked at area resorts for many years. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Pillager, the Sunshine Club and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. In her later years, she moved to Motley and lived at Sunny Pines. In May, 1995, she moved to the Greater Staples Care Center where she lived until her death.
Lenora is survived by two brothers, Bert Fornshell of Pillager and Raymond Fornshell of Portland, OR; three sisters, Alta Loucks of Troutdale, OR, and Ida and Betty Farber of Motley and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Viola Corner and Leona Barrett and four brothers, Darold, Leonard, Charles and Curtis.
Casketbearers were Brad Farber, Eugene Pietz, Randy Fornshell, Jerry Fornshell, Ronald Corner, Mick Farber and Jeff Farber.
Honorary casketbearers were Terry Farber, Arthur Farber, Charles Hanson, Scott Mudgett and William Corner, as well as her grandnieces and grandnephews.

Eugene Weber
Eugene Arnold Weber, age 65, a resident of Ripley Township, MN, died October 18, 1998, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burialwas held October 21 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie, MN, with Rev. Harold J. Kost officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota National Guard in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1960. Eugene returned to the family farm where he resided until his death. Eugene was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and American Legion Post #46 in Little Falls. He was an avid fisherman and deerhunter.
Survivors include his brother, Robert and wife, Audrey Weber of Fort Ripley; sister, Lois Olson of Randall, MN; sister-in-law, Carol Weber of Brooklyn Center, MN; five nieces and three nephews, six great-nieces and three great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alvin Weber, infant sister, Betty Jean.
Pallbearers were Randy Lemm, Stanley Morgan, Joe Rodriguez, Richard Schilling, Paul Schilling and Owen Olson.

Nellie Zacharda
Nellie L. Zacharda, age 71, a resident of rural Motley, MN, died November 2, 1998, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd, MN. A memorial service was held November 4 at the Lincoln Evangelical Free Church, with Reverend Brian Burton officiating.
Nellie Louise Zacharda was born on June 4, 1927, in Darling Township of Morrison County, MN, to the late Lewis and Sarah (Russell) Munson. She grew up near Randall, MN, and graduated from Little Falls High School, Little Falls Teachers Training, and Bemidji State University. She married Robert Zacharda on August 15, 1947. Nellie taught school in both North Dakota. She was the site manager at the Motley Nutrition Site until her retirement from Sunny Pines in 1993. She loved to garden, read and do crafts.
Nellie is survived by two daughters, Glenda Zacharda of Motley and Ami (Reid) Bonrud of Wendell, MN; two grandchildren, Kelly and Robert; three brothers, Lewis Munson of Pequot Lakes, MN, Robert Munson of Two Harbors, MN, and Emmett Munson of Pine River, MN, and one sister, Sarah Schneider of Puyallup, WA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1985; her parents and one brother.

Donald Lee
Donald L. Lee, age 75, a resident of Fergus Falls, MN, died October 22, 1998, at the Lake Region Hospital following a courageous fight with lung disease.
Funeral services were held October 26 at Zion Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls with Rev. Marv Abrahamson officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls.
Donald was born February 3, 1923, near Elbow Lake, MN, to Nelmin and Bertina (Paulson) Lee. He was baptized, confirmed and attended school in Elbow Lake. After graduating from Elbow Lake High School, he enlisted in the Navy and served as a radioman during World War II. Following his military service he returned to Elbow Lake and worked as a plumber. On January 30, 1949, he married Norma Dahle at Ness Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake. They lived in Elbow Lake and Fairmont, MN, before moving to Fergus Falls in 1952. He was involved in plumbing for more than 50 years. He worked for Fergus Plumbing until his retirement and continued doing plumbing work part-time after his retirement. Mrs. Lee died April 18, 1996. He was a member of the Pipe Fitters Union, where he was a master plumber. He was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the VFW, Elks and Eagles. He enjoyed camping, Canadian fishing, hunting, playing cribbage and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his kindness and his caring way.
Survivors include two sons, Steve of Wahpeton, ND, and Craig (Margaret) of Fergus Falls; four daughters, Susan (Mark) Hermes, Denise (Jerry) Gerhardson and Linda (Scott) Norman, all of Fergus Falls and Dawn (Brad) Laager of Little Falls, MN; 12 grandchildren, Wendy (Pete) Amundson, Emily and Anna Hermes, Hollie Ohren, Ryan and BreeAnn Laager, Cory and Alex Gerhardson, Joey and Sam Norman and Jason and Rebecca Lee; two great-grandchildren, Austin Ohren and Eric Amundson; three sisters, Ardis (Henry) Slotsve of St. Paul, MN, Delores (Charles) Barron of Minnetonka, MN, and Janice Jimmie) Ronhovde of Minneapolis; a brother, Allen (LaRae) Lee of Elbow Lake; two sisters-in-law, Bernice (James) Berg and Marlys Dahle, both of Wendell; several nieces, nephews, cousins and an aunt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Norma.

Olive B. Jones
Olive B. Jones, age 89, a resident of Hopkins, MN, died October 31, 1998, at the Northridge Care Center in New Hope, MN.
Funeral services were Novem-ber 4 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN, with Rev. Martin Langemo officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Little Falls.
Olive B. Jones was born November 9, 1908, in Trail, MN. She grew up and graduated from school in the Trail school district. She was united in marriage to Hugh Jones on June 19, 1940, in Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. The couple resided in Minneapolis, MN, until retiring to the Gull Lake area in 1967. The couple moved back to the Minneapolis area in 1983, residing there until Hugh passed away in August 1992. Olive continued living in the Minneapolis area, residing there until her death. Olive was a devoted wife to Hugh for 52 years. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards and spending time with her family.
Survivors include two nephews and great-nieces and- nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Hugh in August, 1992; brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers were the great-nephews.

Josephine Huismann
Josephine N. “Jo” Huismann, age 64, a resident of Little Falls, MN, passed away October 30, 1998, at her home.
Memorial services were held November 3 at First Lutheran Church in Little Falls with Rev. David Steffenson officiating.
Josephine N. Huismann was born June 24, 1934, in St. Paul, MN, to Patrick and Ethel (Brooks) O’Malley. She grew up in Mahtomedi and Duluth, MN. In 1948, the family relocated to Burbank, CA, where Jo graduated from Burbank High School in 1952. She worked at Bank of America in Los Angeles, CA, and later at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. She was united in marriage to Daniel Huismann on November 17, 1973, in Monument, CO. In 1975, the couple moved to Onamia, MN, and farmed. They relocated to Pierz, MN, in 1979 and farmed until 1990 when they moved to Little Falls. Jo was very active with Morrison County Social Services foster care. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Little Falls and the Martha Circle. She was the president of the Lutheran Brotherhood Branch 8380, served on the board of Kinship of Morrison County, committee member of Share A Meal, and served on the board of Oasis/ Share A Meal.
Survivors include husband, Daniel Huismann; sons, Paul Bochow and wife Cindy of Little Falls; Steven Bochow and wife Michelle of Pierz; Kevin Jones and friend Lisa of Little Falls; Daniel Huismann and friend Jane of Palmer Lake, CO; foster daughters, Mary Ann Taylor and husband Andy of Little Falls; Alicia Mae Smith of Little Falls; brother, Walter O’Malley and wife Jeanne of St. Cloud, MN; 13 grandchildren and three foster grandchildren.

Louis Hoeschen
Louis W. Hoeschen, age 79, a resident of Long Lake near Burtrum, MN, formerly of Swanville, MN, died October 29, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, MN.
Funeral services were held November 2 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Swanville with Rev. Thomas Meyer officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Swanville American Legion and VFW.
Louis was born February 28, 1919, in Freeport, MN, to the late William and Mary (Linn) Hoeschen. He grew up near Freeport and attended Sacred Heart School. Louis entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the Pacific Theatre until his honorable discharge in 1946. He returned to the Freeport area. Louis was united in marriage to Marian A. Raeker on September 10, 1946, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. The couple lived in Grey Eagle for seven years with Louis working in and learning the hardware store business. In 1954, the couple purchased the Hauge Hardware Store in Swanville. They changed the name to the Hoeschen Hardware Store and worked for 28 years until retiring in 1982 to Long Lake. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and the outdoors. Louis was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Swanville American Legion Post 313 and Swanville VFW Post 603. He also was a Swanville volunteer fireman for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Marian A. Hoeschen; sons, Wayne Hoeschen and wife Dianne of Shoreview, MN, and Roger Hoeschen and wife DeAnn of Minneapolis, MN; daughters, Mary Hoeschen of Minneapolis and Cindy Hoeschen of Edina, MN; brother, Lambert Hoeschen and wife Hannah of Melrose, MN; and sisters, Ida Spaeth and husband Abe of Melrose and Florence Ziwicki of Royalton, MN; six grandchildren and many friends.
Pallbearers were Randy Nilson, Marvin Fritz, Tom DeFrance, Frank Gessell, Paul Hanowski, Roger Gates.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Esther Hoeschen and a grandson, Michael Hoeschen.
