Lavina C. Braun
Lavina C. Braun, age 78, a resident of Pierz, MN, formerly of Buckman, MN, died April 20, 1999, at St. Mary’s Villa in Pierz.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 23 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman with Father Ron Dockendorf officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
Lavina Clara Braun was born on July 8, 1920, in Buh Township, Morrison County, MN, to the late Herman and Addie (Virnig) Boser. She grew up on a farm in Buh Township and attended country school. She was united in marriage to Reinhard Braun at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz. The couple made their home in Buckman. Lavina worked for Crestliner Boats for 16 years and at Sev’s Cafe in Buckman for four years. Following her retirement, she continued living in Buckman. In April, 1997, she became a resident of the Harmony House in Pierz. She lived there until entering St. Mary’s Villa two weeks ago. Lavina loved playing bingo, gardening, canning and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman and the Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Kapsnerand husband Maury of Minneapolis, MN, Nancy Sanford and husband Jeff of Big Lake, MN, Gail Miller and husband Mike of Zimmerman, MN, Shelly Ensrud and husband Wes of Beaver Dam, WI, and Barb Braun and fiancé Tom Lutzke of Pierz; brothers Harvey Boser and and wife Helen of Minneapolis and Lloyd Boser and wife Faye of Little Falls, MN; sisters Ruby Flicker of Pierz and Doris Gwost of Little Falls; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Lavina was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Reinhard Braun.

Mabel E. Zimbrick
Mabel E. Zimbrick, age 102, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died March 4, 1999, at St. Otto’s Care Center in Little Falls.
Funeral services were held March 6 at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Little Falls with the Rev. Roland Jennings and Rev. Melvin Lundeen officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery.
Mabel Elizabeth Zimbrick was born November 28, 1896, in Forest City, IA to the late Axel and Betty (Aspland) Anderson. At the age of 13, her family moved to the Freedom area where she attended school. After her schooling she worked in Minneapolis for a few years. Mabel was united in marriage to Emil Zimbrick on April 20, 1918, in Little Falls. Following their marriage, Mabel and Emil lived in Brainerd, MN, four years and then moved back to Freedhem where they farmed. In 1952 the couple moved to Little Falls where Mabel worked for a few years at St. Otto’s Care Center. She became a resident of the Alverna Apartments in Little Falls and, in 1995, moved to St. Otto’s Care Center where she resided until her death. Mabel was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Little Falls.
Survivors include her son, Robert and wife, Novella of Brooklyn Center, MN; daughters, Ruth Freeberg of Maple Grove, MN and Betty Setterstrom of Little Falls; ten grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil; brother, Arnold Anderson; sisters, Anna Johnson and Ruth Lindbergh; two sons-in-law and two great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe Hoehn, Douglas VanOrsdel, Russ Jongwaard and Gaylan Olson.
Casketbearers were Gene, Keith and Bruce Setterstrom, Brad Hoffman, Devlin Shaw and Lester Michels.

Brian Meldaus
A Memorial Service for Brian Meldaus will be held on Saturday, March 13, 1999, at 1 p.m. at the Schad-Patton Funeral Home in Grey Eagle, MN.
A luncheon will follow the service at the Burtrum Community Center in Butrum, MN.

Frank Chock
Frank L. Chock, age 81, aresident of Sugar Lake, MN, and formerly of Little Falls, MN, died March 5, 1999, at the Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin, MN.
Funeral services were held March 9 at St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin, with the Father Patrick Coyle officiating. Inter-ment will be at a later time.
Frank was born March 26, 1917, at Minot, ND, to Charles and Laura (Kedruski) Chock. He was baptized at Voss, ND. Frank was an infant when the family moved to Little Falls, MN. He was confirmed in Little Falls. He married Sylvia (Posch) Chock on July 6, 1940. He also graduated from Little Falls High School. Following their marriage, they moved to Minneapolis, MN, and then moved to Fridley, MN, for over 30 years,then moved to Sugar Lake near Aitkin in 1978. He was a member of the mechanist union for 50 years and St. James Catholic Church in Aitkin, MN.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia; one daughter, Janice M. Husfeldt and her husband Del of Crystal, MN; one son, James F. of Blaine, MN; three grandchildren, Daniel, Julie Ann and David Husfeldt; brothers and sisters, Joseph Chock and his wife Ruth and Frances Pointek, both of Minneapolis, MN, Braney Chock and his wife Christine, Marion Pantzke and her husband Wally, Larraine Zilka and her husband Lawrence, all of Little Falls; and Richard Chock and his wife Betty of Anoka, MN; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by parents; daughter-in-law, Lee Ann Chock; two brothers, John and Robert.

Lucille K. Stenberg (Skwira)
Lucille K. Stenberg (Skwira), age 72, a resident of Minneapolis, MN, formerly of Harding, MN, died suddenly on March 6, 1999, at Cuyna Regional Medical Center in Crosby, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial was March 10, 1999, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Harding with Father Roger Thoennes officiating. Burial was at Holy Cross Parish Cemetery.
Lucille was born on October 22, 1926, to Ben and Francis (Trutwin) Young. She was very active in her children’s lives. Lucille enjoyed crocheting, watching baseball (especially Kirby Puckett), and playing with her grandchildren.
Survivors include son, Al Skwira and wife Sheila of Eagan, MN; daughter, Mary Anderson and husband Glenn of Circle Pines, MN, and Nancy Skwirz and her longtime companion Bruce Determann of Minneapolis, MN; grandsons Paul, Todd, and Jim Skwira, and Troy, Matt, and Andy Greeler; great-grandson, Tony Carlson; brothers, Ed Young and wife Lois of Nisswa, MN, and Bob Young and wife Elaine of Pine Center, MN; sisters, EvelynTretter of Little Falls, MN, Josephine Dahmen and husband Herb of Brooklyn Center, MN, Dora Faulkner and husband Virgil of McGregor, MN, and Elsie Gilles and husband Loren of Circle Pines, MN; sisters-in-law Catherine Young of Pierz, MN, Alvina Young of Seattle, WA, and Judy Young of Pine Center; brother-in-law, Jerry Skwira and wife Dorothy of Harding, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alex Skwira; parents, Ben and Francis Young; brothers, Leonard, Elmer, Tom and Jim Young; sisters, Lorraine Williams and Marcella Young; father and mother-in-law Frank and Bridget Skwirz; sister-in-law Delores Kzaley and her husband Eli Kzaley.
Casketbearers were Troy, Matt, and Andy Greeler; Paul, Todd and Jim Skwira.

Wilbert Ehresman
Wilbert Ehresman, age 79, a resident of Motley, MN, died at his home on March 6, 1999.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held March 9 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Motley. Burial was in the Motley Public Cemetery.
Wilbert Paul Ehresman was born on April 17, 1919, in Grace, Saskatchewan, Canada, to the late Martin and Eleanor (Deotkott) Ehresman. As a young boy he moved with his family to Oregon, and Virgil of Salt Lake City, UT: three sisters, Doreen Ehresman of Sauk Centre; JoAnn Hoye of Chula Vista, CA,and Louise Ashleson of Albert Lea.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Urban.

John Scott
John Scott, age 68, a resident of Staples, MN, died March 6, 1999, at his home in Staples.
Mass of Christian Burial was March 10, 1999, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples with Father Lauren Germann officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.
John Walter Scott was born on January 8, 1931, in Fargo, ND, to Joseph and Eleanor (Kasper) Scott. As a young boy he moved with his family to Staples where he attended schools, graduating from Staples High School. Following school he gained employment with the Burlington Northern Railroad and worked as an engineer for over 40 years. In 1951, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Staples and his job with Burlington Northern. On January 21, 1960, he was married to Doreen Conlin in Little Falls. John retired from the railroad in 1993. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Staples VFW and the Wadena Elks Lodge. Above all, John loved his wife, children and grandchildren with all his heart.
Survivors include his wife, Doreen; three children, Thomas (Chrys) O’Neill of New London, MN, Steve (Penny) Scott of Staples and Karen (Lyndon) Johnson of Motley; seven grandchildren, Jared and Jordon O’Neill, Kelen and Kenten Grangested and Stephanie, Jennifer and Nicholas Johnson; his mother, Eleanor Scott of Staples; a brother, Donald Scott of Prior Lake; two sisters, Laura Pankratz of Staples and Eleanor Hanson of New Brighton.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Raymond Popp
Raymond Popp, age 86, a resident of Rice, MN, died at the St. Cloud Hospital on March 5, 1999.
Funeral services were March 8 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN, with the Rev. Peter Holm and Rev. Wayne J. Ahrens co-officiating. Burial was in Langola Cemetery, Rice, MN.
Raymond Popp was born July 24, 1912, in Benton County to Nicholas and Nellie (Burfield) Popp. He married Emma Schneider on June 15, 1937, in Buckman, MN. He lived his entire life in the Rice area and farmed until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and, prior to that, was active in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Buckman. He was a school board member for School District 63.
Survivors include his wife Emma of Rice; children and their spouses, Elaine and Wes Rhode of St. Paul, MN, Milton and Marlene Popp of Rice, Terry and Duane Sakry of Clear Lake, MN; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Casketbearers were Todd and Joel Rhode, Dawn Gustafson, Troy and Allison Popp, Wendy Reisem, Nicholas, Benjamin, and Elizabeth Sakry.

Joseph Koshenina
Joseph Koshenina, age 86, a resident of New Hope, MN, formerly of Upsala, MN, died March 7, 1999, at St. Therese Care Center in New Hope.
Mass of Christian Burial was March 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Upsala with Father Greg Mastey officiating. Burial was at St. Edward’s Cemetery in Elmdale, MN.
Joseph was born on March 29, 1912, in Elmdale Township to the late Frank and Katherine (Wehseler) Koshenina. He was married to Rose Mary Kalis on May 31, 1937, in St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Elmdale. The couple farmed in the Upsala area prior to Joseph taking a job as a rural route mail carrier for the Upsala and Albany area. He was a mail carrier for 35 years, and later the acting postmaster in Upsala. He was a school board member for the Upsala School District, trustee for St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Upsala, bookkeeper for Upsala Co-op Telephone Company and he belonged to the Upsala Lions Club.
Survivors include his sons, Charles and wife Ellen of Fort Myers, FL, Eugene of Houston, TX, Leon and wife Kathy of St. Cloud, MN, Joel of Annandale, MN, Francis of Inver Grove Heights, MN, and Gregory and wife Arlene of St. Cloud, MN; daughters, Therese Rose and husband Herman of Osceola, WI, and Katherine Nelson and husband Charles of Brooklyn Park, MN, brothers Anthony and wife Alice of Roberts, WI, and Bernard and wife Elaine of South St. Paul, MN; sisters, Frances Yorek and husband Pete of Little Falls, MN, and Louise Gallus of Bowlus, MN; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Mary (Kalis) Koshenina who passed away November 19, 1985; his parents, Frank and Katherine Koshenina; brothers, John, Thomas and Henry Koshenina and his sister, Marie Koroll.
Casketbearers were Greg, Joel, Leon, Charles and David Koshenina; Steve Nelson and Shane and Jason Paulson.

Albert Dobis
Albert R. Dobis, a resident of Holding Township, Stearns County, MN, died March 7, 1999, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services were held March 10 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Anna, MN. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Albert was born in Holding Township, Stearns County, to John and Mary (Fautsch) Dobis, Jr. He married Margaret Koroll on October 9, 1945, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Elmdale, MN. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Anna, a 53-year member of the parish choir and a past choir director. He farmed all his life in the St. Anna area and was the third generation to farm the family farm. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include children, LeRoy of Avon, MN, Carol Lammers of Moorhead, MN, Vernon of Fargo, ND, Allan of Avon and Jane Fischer of Avon; nine grandchildren and one sister, Ida Sowada of Little Falls, MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife who died May 27, 1998, and three sisters, Elizabeth Molus, Anna Warzecha and Pauline Sowada.
