Deborah Hunt
Deborah Hunt, 53, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at her home. Deborah Joanne Hunt was born April 8, 1952 in Duluth, Minnesota the daughter of Orville and Joanne (Nord) Stensrud. She attended school in East Grand Forks graduating from East Grand Forks High School. She attended the East Grand Forks AVTI in the Medical Lab Technology Program. She married Steve Hunt in Great Falls, Montana on April 8, 1977. They traveled to Missouri and then to Bismarck, North Dakota, moving back to East Grand Forks to be closer to her family in 1986. She worked for Crafts Direct, Ben Franklin and K-Mart.
She is survived by her husband Steve of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, 2 daughters Stephanie Hunt of San Jose, CA, and Jennifer Hunt of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, her mother Joanne Stensrud of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, 2 sisters, Laurel (Dennis) Dahlin of Euclid, Minnesota, and Sheryl Stensrud of Yakima, WA. She is preceded in death by her father Orville Stensrud and 1 sister Julie Kvamme.

Evelyn Karel
Evelyn Karel, 86, of Thompson, North Dakota died Sunday, May 15, 2005 at the Valley Eldercare Nursing Center, Grand Forks, North Dakota. Evelyn Mae Hills was born January 2, 1919 in Bowesmont, North Dakota the daughter of Walter and Susan (McKenzie) Hills. She graduated from Bowesmont High School in 1938 and married Milton Karel in Drayton, North Dakota on January 13, 1940. She worked at Norby’s Department Store from 1969 – 1977 and worked at the University of North Dakota Food Service in Squire Hall, retiring in 1977.
She is survived by her husband Milton of Thompson, North Dakota, 4 children, Loretta (Glenn) Knudsvig, of Mesa, AZ, Robert (Joanne) Karel of Thompson, North Dakota, Susan (Donald) Larson of Thompson, North Dakota, Marilyn (John) Fuher of Grand Forks, North Dakota, 7 grandchildren, Eric and Heidi Knudsvig, Tim and Tom Karel, Bryan Larson, Jolene Oviatt and Nick Fuher, 4 great-grandchildren, Stephanie Larson, Rylee and Emmalee Oviatt, Paige Karel, 2 sisters, Thelma Fritz of Edinburgh, Texas, Maxine (Marvin) Wilson, of Joliet, North Dakota, 2 brothers, Don (Helen) Hills of Glasston, North Dakota, Oliver “Bud” (Gladys) Hills of Grand Forks, North Dakota and special friends, Judy and Jennifer Kennedy. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters Phyllis Parker, Lillian Greskowiak and one brother Jack Hills.
In Arizona she was a member of Christ the King Catholic church. She was involved in ceramics and taught classes in Sunland Village where they resided. Evelyn was always more concerned with how everyone else was rather than herself. Even in her last days she wanted everyone else to be comfortable and making sure they were being taken care of. All her grandchildren returned home before her passing to say goodbye. She will be missed and cherished always by her family and friends.

Mary A. Krile
Mary A. Krile, 95, of Grand Forks, North Dakota died Sunday, May 15, 2005 at the Valley Eldercare Nursing Center, Grand Forks, North Dakota. Mary Krile was born July 7, 1909 in Pisek, North Dakota the daughter of Frank and Mary (Uhlir) Cicha. She grew up and attended school in Lankin and Park River, North Dakota. She married Joe Krile in Pisek, North Dakota on May 12, 1931. She worked at St. Mary’s School, cooking for the Sisters of St. Benedict in Grand Forks, was a housekeeper at the Deaconess Hospital, Grand Forks and worked at East Hall at UND retiring in 1977.
She is survived by children, Ben (Evey) Krile of Mesa, AZ, Vernon (Dolorus) Krile of Fargo, North Dakota, Arnold (Pat) Krile of Forest River, North Dakota, Rosalie (Lyle) Rose, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 1 brother John Cicha, of St. Paul, Minnesota, and 2 sisters, Agnes Krile of Grand Forks, North Dakota and Nettie Greicar of Pisek, North Dakota. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe on October 5, 1947, sister Anna Petrick, brother Frank Cicha and grandson James Krile.
She was a member of the St. Michael’s Altar Society. She loved Gardening, church, family, needlework, working on family history and baking Czech specialties.

Ingeborg Tiedeman
Ingeborg Tiedeman, 90, East Grand Forks, Minnesota joined her beloved Tiedy in the arms of God on Monday, May 16, 2005 at Edgewood Vista in East Grand Forks. Ingeborg was born on August 27, 1914 near Bygland, Minnesota the daughter of Peder and Sigri (Aanenson) Anderson. She attended rural District 222 school before graduating from the East Grand Forks High School. Ingeborg went on to normal school and at age 18 she began teaching at country schools. She married Harold Tiedeman on June 20, 1937 at Bygland, Minnesota. They made their home in East Grand Forks and she taught in the Greater Grand Forks area schools. Children were her great joy & she continued to tutor literacy students well past her formal retirement. She loved to travel & made trips to the southwest, Florida, Norway and both coasts. She moved to Town Square in 1982 and later lived at Good Samaritan and then Edgewood Vista. She has been a very active charter member of First Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, & confirmation, and was past president of the church women’s group. Her Golden Circle Bible group was a great joy to her. She was an avid bridge club member and enjoyed oil painting, knitting and crocheting.
Ingeborg is survived by her two children; Sandra and her husband Dale Gronhovd of Moorhead, Minnesota, Dale and his wife Ruth Tiedeman of Brainerd, Minnesota, 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a brother Herman Anderson of Mankato, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 8 brothers and 9 sisters. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to hospice or First Lutheran Church.

Riley E. Pape
Riley E. Pape, 22, East Grand Forks, Minnesota died Wednesday May 18, 2005 in National City, California. Riley was born on October 27, 1982, Grand Forks, North Dakota the son of Ron and Shar (Monk) Pape. He graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High School in 2001.
Riley enlisted in the US Marine Corps on June 21, 2000. Upon graduation from Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Private First Class. Upon completion of Infantry Training School at Camp Pendleton, PFC Pape was assigned as a rifleman to 2d Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st marine Division at Camp Pendleton. In July 2002 he deployed to the western Pacific in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with 2d Battalion, 4th Marines. Upon returning to Camp Pendleton in June of 2003, he was screened for service with 1st Reconnaissance Battalion and by virtue of his superior physical and mental performance was accepted into the Advanced Reconnaissance Course. Upon completion of Advanced Reconnaissance Course he was assigned for duty to 1st Recon Battalion as a Reconnaissance Marine.He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in February of 2004. In March 2004 he deployed to the Al Anbar Province of Iraq with A Company, 1st Recon Battalion, 1st Marine Division in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. While serving in Iraq he participated in combat operations in and around the cities of Fallujah, Karmah, and Ramadi. Riley was awarded the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal with “Combat V” device (denoting “Valor”) and the Combat Action Ribbon for individual heroism during numerous engagements against the enemy between March and August of 2004. He redeployed with the 1st Recon Battalion to Camp Pendleton in September of 2004.
Riley is survived by his parents; Ron and Shar Pape of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, brothers; Ryan Pape of East Grand Forks, SPC Ross Pape stationed in Iraq with the US Army, grandparents; Robert Jr. and Donna Pape of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Herbert and Donna Monk of Alvarado, Minnesota, great grandparents; Robert Sr. and Henrietta Pape of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Gladys Useldinger of Grand Forks, North Dakota. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials.

Irene Tronnes
Irene Tronnes, 79, Nielsville, Minnesota died Sunday, May 22, 2005 at the Halstad Living Center, after a long illness peacefully with her family beside her. Irene was born on September 10, 1925, Caledonia, North Dakota the daughter of Dan and Nora (Dvergsten) Reel. She graduated from the Caledonia High School and married Vernon Tronnes on September 19, 1946 in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. They farmed and she was a great help baling hay with her husband in the Halstad ~ Shelly Minnesota area.
Irene is survived by her husband Vernon of Nielsville, Minnesota, her 4 children; Ardys Wambold and special friend Dick Anthony of Beaver Crossing, Nebraska, Vicki (Mike) Mjelde of Lincoln, Nebraska, Galen (Debbie) Tronnes of Nashville, Tennessee, Valerie Tronnes of Grand Forks, North Dakota, 12 grandchildren; Rob, Bob, Jim, Angie, Denise, Dana, Crystal, Amber, Tyler, Miranda, Michon and Chanda. 15 great grandchildren, 2 sisters; Darlene Sumpter of Butte, Montana, Norma Wold of Goodridge, Minnesota and 1 brother; Bernard Reel of Shelly, Minnesota. She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers; Marvin and Kenny Mickelson and 1 sister; Beulah Sheridan and 2 infant brothers and 2 infant sisters.
Irene touched many people’s lives during her time with us. We will always remember her as a ray of sunshine that touched each of our lives.

Livina Egstad
Livina Egstad passed away on Tuesday ~ May 24, 2005 at the Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Livina Lou Egstad was born on June 8, 1934 in Lawton, ND, the daughter of Joseph and Beede (Faiad) Deraney. Livina grew up in Lawton, North Dakota, and attended school in Grand Forks, North Dakota. On March 16, 1950 she was united in marriage to Donald Egstad in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and they lived in East Grand Forks, Minnesota.
Cherished family members include her children; Duane (Irene Egstad of Dilworth, Minnesota, Cheryl (Howard) Short of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Melody (Kelly) Bucklin of Fargo, North Dakota, three brothers; Edward (Bobby) Deraney, Phillip (Mary) Deraney, George (Virgie) Deraney, all of Grand Forks, North Dakota, one sister; Cecelia Feist of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and six grandchildren.
Livina is preceded in death by her parents, her husband on November 11, 1996, two brothers; Arthur and James, two sisters; Mary and Elizabeth and an infant daughter Judith.
Services: 2:30 PM ~ Friday ~ May 27, 2005 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks, Minnesota.
Visitation: Beginning at 12:30 PM until time of services at Sacred Heart Catholic Church

Patricia Lynn Linstad
Patricia Lynn Linstad 57 of Grand Forks, North Dakota passed away on Thursday ~ May 26, 2005. Patricia Linstad was born March 25, 1948 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The daughter of Robert and Lucille (Ringling) Gaddie. She grew up in East Grand Forks, Minnesota and graduated from Sacred Heart High School, East Grand Forks. She married Barry Linstad in East Grand Forks, Minnesota on October 7, 1967. They lived in East Grand Forks, Minnesota until 1970 when they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. They returned to Grand Forks, North Dakota in 1973 and made their home there. Patti worked several places during her life in Grand Forks including The Grand Forks Clinic, The Rehabilitation Hospital and the past eleven years were spent with the Grand Forks Airport Authority.
She is survived by her husband Barry of Grand Forks, 1 daughter Ashlynn (Dale) Wagner of Fargo, North Dakota, 1 son Jesse James Linstad of Moorhead, Minnesota, her mother Lucille of Warroad, Minnesota, 3 grandchildren, Jordan, Jaelynn “Punky” and Adeline Patricia “Boo” Wagner, of Fargo, North Dakota, 3 brothers, Larry Gaddie of Grand Forks, Timmy (Becky) Gaddie and Denny (Cyndi) Gaddie both of East Grand Forks, Minnesota. She is preceded in death by her father Robert.
Patti spent her last days in “Patti’s Paradise” surrounded by family and friends in their home on Maple Lake, Minnesota. The family would like to extend great appreciation for the care and love Patti received from the doctors and staff at The Altru Cancer Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota and the The Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion, Illinois.

Milton Karel
Milton Karel, 87 of Thompson, North Dakota died Friday, May 27, 2005 at the Valley Eldercare Nursing Center, Grand Forks, North Dakota. Milton Woodrow Karel was born June 27, 1917 in Leroy, North Dakota the son of George and Sarah (Yeado) Karel. He graduated from Mayville State Teacher’s College in 1938. He taught at Mugford Country School near Bowesmont, North Dakota where he met and married Evelyn May Hills in Drayton, North Dakota on January 13, 1940. He taught school in Glasston and Cavalier, North Dakota. He served his country in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He later worked for Butler Machinery and Equitable Life in Grand Forks retiring in 1988.
He is survived by 4 children, Loretta (Glenn) Knudsvig, of Mesa, AZ, Robert (Joanne) Karel of Thompson, North Dakota, Susan (Donald) Larson of Thompson, North Dakota, Marilyn (John) Fuher of Grand Forks, North Dakota, 7 grandchildren, Eric and Heidi Knudsvig, Tim and Tom Karel, Bryan Larson, Jolene Oviatt and Nick Fuher, 4 great-grandchildren, Stephanie Larson, Rylee and Emmalee Oviatt, and Paige Karel. He is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn on May 15, 2005, his parents, 3 sisters, Anna Mae Bjornstad, Mary Elizabeth Karel and Lillian Beatrice Karel and 2 brothers John and Stanley Karel.
In Arizona he was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He enjoyed coffee everyday with the North Dakota Group and working with his rose bushes. In North Dakota he was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic church and served on the Men’s Club. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Walhalla VFW and American Legion, and the Bismarck Elks Club. Milton loved to work in the yard, landscaping and in his beautiful rose garden. All his grandchildren returned home before his passing to say goodbye. He will be missed and cherished always by his family and friends.
