Helen B. Rowlett
1917-1999
MOUND CITY, Mo. Helen Bonnie (Smith) Rowlett, 82, Mound City, died Thursday, June 10, 1999, at the Fairfax, Mo., hospital.
Born near Mound City on March 23, 1917, Mrs. Rowlett was a lifelong resident of Mound City.
A homemaker, she was a graduate of the Bellevue High School near Mound City and a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mound City, where she was a church school teacher and an ordained elder.
On Jan. 12, 1935, she married Robert W. Rowlett in Platte City, Mo. He died in 1985.
Mrs. Rowlett also was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Rosa Smith; three brothers, Paul, Mart and Edmond; and two sisters, Clara Ham and Mamie Webb.
Surviving: a son, Roger, Mound City; a sister, Opal Goodrum, Dallas, Texas; and a grandchild.
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Pettijohn & Crawford Funeral Home, Mound City. Burial: Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City. Visitation: after 11 a.m. today, at the funeral home. There is no scheduled family visitation. Memorials may be made to the Mound City Nutrition Site or Outreach International in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 277, Mound City, Mo., 64470.

Twilla L. Sadler
1928-1999
ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. Twilla Lucille (Mulhern) Sadler, 70, Arkansas City, formerly of St. Joseph, died Monday, June 7, 1999, at a hospital in Arkansas City.
Mrs. Sadler had worked in food service all of her life.
Born in Adair County, Iowa, on Nov. 9, 1928, she attended schools in the Adair County area and was graduated from the Orient-Macksburg High School. She had lived in Iowa, Missouri, Texas and Oklahoma before moving to Arkansas City in 1985.
In 1946, she married John Krabiel. They were later divorced. Then she married Harold Sadler. He died in 1965. In 1967, she married Les Hope. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Sadler also was preceded in death by her parents, Howard E. and Hazel L. Mulhern.
Additional survivors: two daughters, Nancy Schroff and Lynda Redman, both of Arkansas City; a son, Harold Sadler, Arkansas City; a stepson, David Sadler, Creston, Iowa; and 14 grandchildren.
Memorial service: 1 p.m. Saturday, St. Paul United Methodist Church, Arkansas City. There will be no visitation. The body has been donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. Arrangements: Hawks Funeral Home, Arkansas City.

Carmen D. Sipes
OREGON, Mo. Carmen D. Sipes, 94, Oregon, died Thursday, June 10, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Born on the family farm in Holt County, Mo., near Forest City, Mo., Mr. Sipes was a lifelong resident of that farm.
A farmer all of his adult life, he attended the Bluff City rural school in Holt County. He was the founding member of the Forest City Levee District.
On Jan. 5, 1934, he married Oma G. George. She survives of the home.
Mr. Sipes was preceded in death by his parents, Peter J. and Olive J.; two brothers, Fred and Floyd; and three sisters, Alma Hulser, Ora Burrier and Alberta Derr.
Additional survivor: a sister, Madeline Burwell, Windsor, Mo.
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon. Burial: Union Cemetery, Forest City. Visitation: after 11 a.m. today, at the funeral home. There is no scheduled family visitation. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Leroy C. Terry
1928-1999
Leroy C. Terry, 70, St. Joseph, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at a hospice in St. Joseph following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Terry had been employed by Wonder Bread in St. Joseph for 32 years and retired in 1987 as a branch manager. After his retirement, he worked for the Dugan-Lowe Oil Co. of St. Joseph for over 10 years. During the Korean War, he served in the Navy.
Born in Jamesport, Mo., on Nov. 13, 1928, he had spent most of his life in St. Joseph.
Mr. Terry was a member of Wyatt Park Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon; Brotherhood Lodge No. 269, A.F. & A.M.; York Rite Bodies; Moila Shrine Temple; Radiant chapter No. 88, Order of Eastern Star, of which he was a past patron; Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and Pony Express American Legion Post No. 359, all of St. Joseph.
On Oct. 15, 1949, he married, Joy Walker in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Roy C. and Alma I.
Additional survivors: two daughters, Deborah Heitman and Cheryl Murphy, both of St. Joseph; three sisters, Gertrude Cook and Mary Ellen Maples, both of Cowgill, Mo., and Lucille Dickinson, Gallatin, Mo.; and six grandchildren.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Meierhoffer Family Funeral Care, St. Joseph. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. Family visitation: 6:30 to 8:30 tonight, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hands of Hope Hospice in St. Joseph.

William J. Bennett
1919-1999
William J. "Bill'' Bennett, 79, St. Joseph, died Thursday, June 17, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Bennett was auditor for Buchanan County, Mo., a position he was appointed to in 1980 by then-Gov. Joe Teasdale and elected to in 1982. He was working that office at the time of his death.
In 1963, he was appointed to the position of assessor for Buchanan County, and in 1964, was elected to that post. He served as assessor until 1970, and then he was elected mayor of St. Joseph, serving for two terms.
He also was appointed acting postmaster for the St. Joseph Post Office in 1961 by the late Congressman William Hull and held that office until 1963.
Mr. Bennett began his career as a bundle boy at the former Big Smith Manufacturing Co. in St. Joseph; and then was a salvage inspector for the former Watson Trucking. He also was a real estate broker for the former Eder Agency of St. Joseph.
Born in St. Joseph on Sept. 26, 1919, he was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph. He graduated from Central High School and St. Joseph Junior College.
Mr. Bennett was an ordained minister and deacon of the Wyatt Park Baptist Church and was on the staff as minister to the homebound and nursing homes. He was a former pastor of the Fillmore Christian Church in Fillmore, Mo. He was a member of the St. Joseph Democratic Club; Charity Lodge No. 331, A.F. & A.M.; a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and High-Twelve Club No. 49.
On June 5, 1941, he married Fern L. Danner in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents, William T. and Mary W.; and four sisters, Geraldine DeToski, Leona Powers, Jessie Bennett and Fern Duncan.
Additional survivors: two daughters, Joan G. Bennett and Cindy L. Kieber, both of St. Joseph; a son, Tom, St. Joseph; two sisters, Willadean Carlson, and Nevada Hienz, both of St. Joseph; three grandchildren; a stepgrandchild; and three step great-grandchildren.
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Wyatt Park Baptist Church, St. Joseph. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. Visitation: after 9 a.m. today at Meierhoffer Family Funeral Care, St. Joseph, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight. Memorials may be made to the Children's Mercy Hospital, Oncology or Down's Syndrome Clinic, 2401 Gilliam Road, Kansas City, MO, 64111.

Eugene Domann
1909-1999
NORTONVILLE, Kan. -- Eugene Domann, 90, Nortonville, died Thursday, June 17, 1999, at his home.
Born in the Mooney Creek community, north of Winchester, Kan., on March 16, 1909, Mr. Domann moved to Nortonville in 1997.
He had farmed in the Mooney Creek community and Valley Falls, Kan., area all his adult life. During World War II, he served in the Army.
Mr. Domann attended the Corpus Christi School and was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, both at Mooney Creek. He also was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Nortonville.
On April 28, 1947, he married Nora M. Hindman in Kansas City, Mo. She survives of the home.
Mr. Domann was preceded in death by his parents, Allie and Genevieve; and three brothers and three sisters.
Additional survivors: a son, Richard L.; three daughters, Mary Jo Domann, Atlanta, Ga., Alice R. Domann, Ellisworth, Kan., and Linda J. Scott. Atchison, Kan.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Nortonville. Burial: Corpus Christi Church Cemetery, Mooney Creek community, north of Winchester. Rosary: 7 tonight, at the church, where the family will receive friends until 8:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic School in Nortonville in care of the O'Trimble Funeral Home, Nortonville, which is handling arrangements.

Cleta Dowden
1926-1999
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Cleta (Wilson) Dowden, 72, Maryville, formerly of Barnard, Mo., died Thursday, June 17, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mrs. Dowden had taught at the Mount Pleasant Rural School for four years and the State School in Maryville for more than 20 years until retiring.
Born near Hopkins, Mo., on Sept. 6, 1926, she had lived in Barnard before moving to Maryville in 1997.
Mrs. Dowden graduated from the Hopkins high school and Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville with a degree in education. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Barnard; Delta Kappa Gamma and Beta Sigma Phi sororities; and Barnard American Legion Auxiliary. She also was active in the Republican Party.
On April 29, 1948, she married Willis E. Dowden in Maryville. He died in 1997.
Mrs. Dowden also was preceded in death by a son, Stephen; two daughters, Janet and Virginia A. Dowden; her parents, Roy Wilson and Bertha Wilson Owens; her stepfather, Jim Owens; two sisters, Martha White and Rita Wilson; and a brother, Verlin Wilson.
Surviving: two daughters, Judy Slump, Henderson, Iowa, and Jody Lager, Barnard; a sister, Helen Thompson, Pickering, Mo.; and four grandchildren.
Service: 10 a.m. Monday, First Christian Church, Barnard. Burial: Miriam Cemetery, Maryville. Family visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Barnard.

Catherine J. Hixson
1915-1999
GOWER, Mo. -- Catherine Josephine "Jo'' (Smith) Hixson, 83, Gower, died Thursday, June 17, 1999, at a health-care center in Gower.
Mrs. Hixson had worked at the former National Bellas-Hess in North Kansas City, Mo.; Schuster Poultry Farm of Gower and the Gower Convalescent Center for many years.
Born in Edgerton, Mo., on Sept. 5, 1915, she was reared and attended school there. She lived in Edgerton until 1960.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gower.
In 1960, she married Virgil Hixson. They made their home in Gower. He died in 1970.
Mrs. Hixson also was preceded in death by a son, Punk Sellars; her parents, James M. and Charlotta R. Smith; eight brothers, Frank, Dave, Bob, Jake, Wayne, Mitch, Luther and Archie Smith; and four sisters, Anna Belle Button, Leona Smith, Amanda L. Snedeker and Maude Bywaters.
Surviving: two sons, James E. Sellars, Edgerton, Dallas Sellars, Smithville, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Bobbie Musser, Gower, and Shirley Gensheer, Denver, Colo.; a brother, Jim Smith, Polsom, Mont.; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 11 step great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a step great-great-grandchild.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Edgerton. Burial: Mount Moriah Terrace Park Cemetery, Kansas City. Visitation: after noon today, at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends one hour before the service. Memorials may be made to the Hands of Hope Hospice in St. Joseph.

Stanley W. Keuhn
1959-1999
TRENTON, Mo. -- Stanley Wayne Keuhn, 40, Trenton, died Thursday, June 17, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital.
Mr. Keuhn worked for his father, Guy, at the Keuhn Construction Co. in Trenton for many years.
Born in Trenton on May 21, 1959, he was a lifelong resident of the Trenton area.
He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and Elks Lodge, both of Trenton.
On June 12, 1992, he married Anna Whitacre in Appleton City, Mo. She survives of the home.
Mr. Keuhn was preceded in death by his mother, Helen, in 1990.
Additional survivors: a stepdaughter, Kimberly Murray of the home; and his father, Guy, Trenton.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Wesley United Methodist Church, Trenton. Burial: Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery, Edinburg, Mo. Family visitation: 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday, at the Resthaven Mortuary, Trenton.

Curtis Howe
1911-1999
PASCAGOULA, Miss. -- Curtis Howe, 87, Pascagoula, formerly of Chillicothe, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, in Grand Bay, Ala.
Mr. Howe was a dairy farmer in Livingston County, Mo., for many years.
Born in Unionville, Mo., on Aug. 26, 1911, he was a graduate of the Genoa, Colo., high school and attended the Highview Baptist Church in Chillicothe. He was active in the Chillicothe Genealogy Society.
On May 27, 1948, he married Alice R. Mitchell in Sonoma, Calif. She is deceased.
Mr. Howe also was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Dora; a brother, Guy; and a sister, Silvia.
Surviving: a daughter, Diane Hilsabeck, Pascagoula; two brothers, Roy, Lymon, Colo., and Loren, Columbus, Ohio; six sisters, Eula Fisher, Genoa, Norma Bylsna, Ramah, Colo., Alice Baldwin, Russellville, Ark., Betty Wardrop, Linden, Mich., Laura Stone, Flagler, Colo., and Fern Balaun, Evergreen, Colo.; and three grandchildren.
Graveside memorial service and inurnment: 10 a.m. Friday, Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe. The body has been cremated. Arrangements: Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe.

Alma P. Hughes
1901-1999
MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Alma Pearl (Eaton) Hughes, 98, Manhattan, formerly Hale, Mo., died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at a Manhattan hospital.
Mrs. Hughes taught in Marceline, Mo., schools for two years and a Hale school for six years.
Born on a farm south of Hale on March 19, 1901, she graduated from the Hale high school. She attended Maryville State Teachers College, Maryville, Mo.; Kirksville, Mo., State Teachers College and Denver, Colo., University.
Mrs. Hughes was a member of the Hale Baptist Church and Wornall Road Baptist Church, Kansas City, where she taught Sunday school; and P.E.O. Sisterhood.
On Dec. 24, 1926, she married Chester Hughes of Hale. They moved from Hale in 1928, and lived in Burlington, Kan.; Marshall, Mo., and Kansas City for 30 years before retiring to a farm north of Hale in 1969. He died in 1986.
Mrs. Hughes also was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel B. and Mary Eaton; and a daughter, Joyce Leitnaker.
Surviving: a son, Charles, Manhattan; a daughter, Cynthia Davison, Austin, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Service: 10 a.m. Thursday, Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel, Manhattan. Graveside service and burial: 11 a.m. Friday, Hale Cemetery. Visitation: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Manhattan funeral home. Also family visitation: 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 8 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Lindley Funeral Home, Hale. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Hale, in care of the Manhattan funeral home, 1616 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502, or the other branch of the Lindley Funeral Home, P.o. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.

Amel S. Marshall Sr.
1930-1999
Amel S. Marshall Sr., 68, St. Joseph, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Marshall was a truck driver for 30 years for the former Small Woods Trucking Co., and then for Brown Transfer and Storage Co., both of St. Joseph, until retiring in 1980.
Born in St. Joseph on Sept. 17, 1930, he was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local No. 460.
On Dec. 24, 1967, he married Fay L. Walker in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by two sons, Amel Jr. and Edward; his parents, Walter S. and Helen; two brothers, Everett and Alfred Welter; and a sister, Mary Banks.
Additional survivors: three sons, Amel S. Jr., St. Joseph, Dean M., Waterloo, Iowa, and James, Savannah, Mo.; four daughters, Minnie M. Pearce and Louise S. Marshall, both of the home, Mary Higgins, Fillmore, Mo., and Tina Marshall, California state; a brother, Frank Welter, Amazonia, Mo.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Gladden-Stamey Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Burial: Ashland Cemetery, St. Joseph. Visitation: after noon today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
