Kenneth Piepergerdes
1908-1999
DEKALB, Mo. -- Kenneth Piepergerdes, 90, DeKalb, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, in Stewartsville, Mo.
Mr. Piepergerdes was a cashier for the Drovers Merchant Bank and managed 17 farms for Wilver Dell Farms for 21 years. He also was employed by Farmland Industries for 20 years until retiring in 1974. After his retirement, he served as an agricultural business consultant for the United States government in Mexico and Egypt.
Born in Stewartsville on Sept. 29, 1908, he spent his youth in Stewartsville and had lived in DeKalb, Savannah and Palmyra, Mo.; and Hastings and Lee, Neb., before returning to DeKalb in 1974.
Mr. Piepergerdes was a member of the 15th Street Restoration Branch of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, St. Joseph, of which he served as high priest; stake president in Lee and counselor to the presidency of the Far West Stake, St. Joseph. He also was a member of the Uptown Rotary Club, St. Joseph, of which he was a past president; Buchanan County Farm Bureau; Buchanan County Soil and Water Committee; and Buchanan County Planning and Zoning Commission.
On Sept. 10, 1937, he married Vernelle R. Powell in Stewartsville. She died in 1992.
Mr. Piepergerdes was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lydia; two brothers, Earl and Willis; and a sister, Josephine Piepergerdes.
Surviving: two daughters, Marla K. Keck, St. Joseph, and Cheryl J. Griner, Independence, Mo; a brother, Lloyd, Cameron, Mo.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Family Funeral Service, St. Joseph. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. Visitation: after noon today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 tonight.

George E. Powers
1927-1999
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- George Edward Powers, 71, Maryville, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Powers owned and operated KNIM radio station in Maryville from 1972 until retiring in 1985. During the Korean War, he served in the Army.
Born in Dennison, Iowa, on Dec. 4, 1927, he resided in the Maryville area since 1972.
Mr. Powers was a graduate of St. Ann's High School in Vail, Iowa. He was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church, James Edward Gray American Legion Post No. 100 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 442, all of Maryville.
On Jan. 12, 1954, he married Ruth A. Loew in Vail. She survives of the home.
Mr. Powers was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas L. and Mary; and a sister, Rosalie Schoessler.
Additional survivors: two daughters, Diane Powers and Debra Cox, both of St. Joseph; two sons, Pat and Mike, both of St. Joseph; two brothers, Joe, Dumfries, Va., and Jack, Dennison; seven sisters, Sally Michelson, San Marino, Calif., Joan Buck, Reedsport, Ore., Jean Stanley, Sullivan, Ind., Mary C. Miller, Yuba City, Calif., Kay Peterson, Schleswig, Iowa, Nancy Powers, Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Jane Neppl, Omaha, Neb.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Wednesday, St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Maryville. Graveside service and burial: 3 p.m. Wednesday, Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph, with rites by members of the 139th Airlift Wing of the Missouri National Guard. Legion of Mary rosary: 4 p.m. today, at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville. Family visitation: 6 to 7 tonight at the church, where a rosary will be recited at 7 tonight. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Hailey N. Rhodes
MAYSVILLE, Mo. -- Hailey Noel Rhodes, newborn daughter of Stanley D. and Christy L. Rhodes, Maysville, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Hailey was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandmother, June Rhodes.
Additional survivors: a brother, Levi of the home; a sister, McKenzie Rhodes of the home; paternal grandparents, Paul and Sue Rhodes, Maysville; maternal grandfather, David Bequette, Jamesport, Mo.; maternal grandmother, Marilyn Bequette, Jamesport; paternal great-grandfather, Ben Rhodes, Browning, Mo.; paternal great-grandparents, Bill and Lela Mae Swartz, Helena, Mo.; maternal great-grandmother, Velma Maddox, Gallatin, Mo.; and paternal great-great-grandmother, Catharine Sample, Excelsior Springs, Mo.
Private family memorial service: at a later date. The body has been cremated. There will be no visitation. Arrangements: Bram Funeral Home, Maysville.

Ruby L. Sharp
1905-1999
BETHANY, Mo. -- Ruby L. (Mathes) Sharp, 94, Bethany, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at a health-care center in Bethany.
Mrs. Sharp and her husband, Glenn, operated a cleaners in Eagleville, Mo. She also worked as a housekeeper and for the Everette Green Farms in Keota, Iowa.
Born in Eagleville on Jan. 25, 1905, she lived in Eagleville; and Keota and Bedford, Iowa, before moving to a health-care center in Bethany.
She attended a beauty school in Omaha, Neb. Mrs. Sharp was a member of the Hobbs Methodist Church, Eagleville; and auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Keota.
On Nov. 4, 1923, she married Glenn Sharp. He is deceased.
Mrs. Sharp also was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester T. and Nellie M. Mathes; four brothers, Isam D., Everett L. and Orel M. Mathes and an infant; and four sisters, Bertha R. and Ethel F. Mathes, Hessie M. Wise and Lois L. Henry.
Surviving: a son, Everett L., Rifton, N.Y.; and two sisters, Verda L. Comer, Ridgeway, Mo., and Clara Westerman, Zion, Ill.
Graveside service and burial: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Edwards & Hoffman (Hobbs) Cemetery, Eagleville. Visitation: after noon today at the Polley-Slaughter-Polley Funeral Home, Ridgeway. There is no scheduled family visitation. Memorials may be made to the cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Zella Smith
BRANSON, Mo. -- Zella (Howard) Smith, 82, Branson, formerly of St. Joseph, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at a health-care center in Hollister, Mo.
Mrs. Smith was a beautician in St. Joseph.
Born in Kansas, she lived in St. Joseph until moving to Branson.
Surviving: her husband, Raymond of the home in Branson; two daughters, Donna Wolfenbarger, Bakersfield, Calif., and Sharon Freeman, Ventura, Calif.; a son, Gilbert Edmondson, Bakersfield; a sister, Ruth Barnes, Baldwin Park, Calif.; and several grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Sept. 15, on the shore of Lake Taneycomo in Branson. The body was cremated. Arrangements were by the Whelchel Funeral Home in Branson. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a hospice.

Ronald E. Winrow
1980-1999
ATCHISON, Kan. -- Ronald Eugene Winrow, 19, Atchison, died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, from injuries suffered in a vehicle accident south of Highland, Kan.
Mr. Winrow, born in Atchison on March 9, 1980, was employed by Taco Johns.
He attended Atchison public schools and moved in 1993 to Omaha, Neb., where he attended North High, West High and Bryant Schools. Mr. Winrow returned to Atchison, where he attended an alternative school.
Surviving: his mother, Bridgit Winrow, Atchison; his father, Ronald H. Winrow, Omaha; his stepmother, Robyn Tyler, Kansas City; five brothers, Terron Gregory and Alonzo T. Winrow, both of Kansas City, Jermaine Campbell, Hawaii, and Sean Winrow and Shane Tyler, both of Atchison; four sisters, Ashley Winrow and Jamie Birch, both of Atchison, LeeLee T. Winrow, Kansas City, and Natisha Winrow, Omaha; maternal grandmother, Esther L. McGuire, Atchison; paternal grandparents, Arthur L. Smith, Huntington, Ark., and Carlette Winrow, Omaha; paternal great-grandmother, Anna M. Winrow, Atchison; and paternal great-great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Spencer, Kansas City.
Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Atchison. Burial: Mount Vernon Cemetery, Atchison. Visitation: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Atchison, and family visitation: one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Ebenezer Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.

Dorothy M. Critten
1924-1999
GALLATIN, Mo. -- Dorothy Mae (Laffey) Critten, 74, rural Gallatin, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Critten, a homemaker, was a Head Start teacher in Daviess County, Mo., for more than 30 years, retiring in 1995, and had taught in Livingston County, Mo.
Born Oct. 6, 1924, near Hamilton, Mo., she was a graduate of Jamesport High School and had attended Maryville, Mo., State Teachers' College.
Mrs. Critten was a member of the Olive Baptist Church, east of Gallatin, where she was a Sunday school teacher; Baptist Women's Missionary Organization; and served as a 4-H Club leader in Daviess County.
On Nov. 18, 1945, she married Maurice A. Critten in Gallatin. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Critten was preceded in death by a son, Roger; her parents, Grover and Ella Laffey; a brother, Fred Laffey; and a sister, Ruth Thompson.
Additional survivors: two sons, Darrell, Gallatin, and Karl, St. Joseph; three daughters, Patricia Orr, Liberty, Mo., Debbie Fisher, Smithville, Mo., and Sandra Logan, Columbia, Mo.; two brothers, Mack Laffey, Laredo, Mo., and Pat Laffey, Chillicothe, Mo.; three sisters, Mary Campbell, Chillicothe, Lula Smith, Jamesport, and Dolores Lockridge, Corydon, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Gallatin First Baptist Church. Burial: Hillcrest Cemetery, Gallatin. Visitation: after noon today, Bram Funeral Home, Gallatin, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight. Genevieve B. Engle
1909-1999
ABILENE, Kan. -- Genevieve B. (Adams) Engle, 89, Abilene, formerly of St. Joseph, died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, at an Abilene hospital.
Mrs. Engle was born Dec. 1, 1909, in St. Joseph. She spent her childhood in the St. Joseph area. She had lived in Abilene since 1971.
She was a member of the Abilene First Christian Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
On Oct. 4, 1939, she married Dr. David F. Engle. After their marriage, they made their home in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Erie, Pa., and Ottumwa, Iowa. He died in 1970.
Mrs. Engle also was preceded in death by her parents, James A. and Bertha M. Adams; six brothers; and a great-grandchild.
Surviving: three daughters, Marilyn Hargrave, Calabasas, Calif., Genanne Davis, Agaura Hill, Calif., and Ardella Richeson, Lafayette, La.; a son, David, Stafford, Va.; two sisters, Naomi Adams, St. Joseph, and Wanda Lance, Cambridge, Wis.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Service: 1:30 p.m. today, Abilene First Christian Church. Burial: Abilene Cemetery. Arrangements: Danner Funeral Home, Abilene. Memorial contributions may be sent to a charity of the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home or the church.

Gilbert A. Eversole
1924-1999
KANSAS CITY -- Gilbert Arthur Eversole, 75, North Kansas City, formerly of Wiota, Iowa, and St. Joseph and Maysville, Mo., died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at a North Kansas City health-care center.
Mr. Eversole farmed while living in Maysville and worked as a road foreman for Henningsen Construction Co., Wiota, for 25 years. He also served in the Army during World War II.
Born Jan. 7, 1924, in St. Joseph, he attended St. Joseph schools. He lived in Maysville before moving to Wiota in 1969.
He married Madeline J. Bigelow on July 24, 1946. She died in 1996.
Mr. Eversole also was preceded in death by his parents, Charles F. and Dora; six brothers, Herman, Francis, Edgar and three infant brothers; and three sisters, Helen Jones and two infant sisters.
Surviving: two sons, James M, Cumberland, Iowa, and Jeff, Kansas City; a brother, William, Kansas City; a sister, Hattie L. Wright, Savannah, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Bram Funeral Home, Maysville. Burial: Bethel Cemetery, near Cosby, Mo. Family visitation: 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 350, Maryville, MO 64469.

Inez H. Eyman
1915-1999
FAIRFAX, Mo. -- Inez Hazel (Brought) Eyman, 83, Fairfax, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at a Fairfax hospital.
Mrs. Eyman worked at the Opp Hotel, Rock Port, Mo., and a few Rock Port area restaurants.
Born Nov. 18, 1915, in Lebanon, Mo., she moved to the Rock Port and Watson, Mo., area in 1917. She attended Rock Port and High Creek, Mo., schools.
Mrs. Eyman was a member of the Fairfax Baptist Church and the Young at Heart Club, Fairfax.
In March 1937, she married Jerome Eyman. After their marriage, they lived and farmed near Watson. He died in 1953. After her husband' s death, she moved to Rock Port in 1957, where she lived until moving to Fairfax in 1981.
Mrs. Eyman also was preceded in death by a son, Wendell; her parents, George H. and Maggie Brought; three brothers, Wesley, Roy and Donald Brought; and three sisters, Mabel Long, Pearl Sons and Velma McLaughlin.
Surviving: four sons, Jack, Tarkio, Mo., A.J., Nebraska City, Neb., James, Vichy, Mo., and Donald, Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Mary, Omaha; a brother, Irvin Brought, Rock Port; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Fairfax Baptist Church. Burial: Linden Cemetery, Rock Port. Visitation: after 9 a.m. today, Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port. There is no scheduled family visitation. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Fairfax Baptist Church.

Elaine Franklin
1929-1999
YUTAN, Neb. -- Elaine (Henninger) Franklin, 70, Yutan, died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Franklin had worked for Western Electric, Omaha, Neb., in 1964, and retired as an inspector from AT&T;, Omaha, in 1986.
Born Aug. 8, 1929, in Reserve, she grew up in the Reserve area.
Mrs. Franklin was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Yutan; the Ladies Circle, of the church; Pioneer Club at AT&T;, Omaha; and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, local No. 525, Omaha.
On Feb. 28, 1947, she married Glenn W. Franklin in Hiawatha, Kan. After their marriage, they lived in Falls City, Neb., moving to Omaha in 1948. In 1951, they moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, staying there until 1959, when they returned to Omaha. They later moved to Mead, Neb., and then to Yutan in 1974. He died in 1983.
Mrs. Franklin also was preceded in death by two daughters, an infant, Mary E., and Peggy Reed; her parents, Ralph and Della F. Henninger; and a brother, Robert L. Henninger.
Surviving: two daughters, Marlene Hassler, Yutan, and Debbie Push, Kennard, Neb.; two brothers, Terrance Henninger, Atchison, Kan., and Chester E. Henninger, Lubbock, Texas; two sisters, Louise Heiniger, Fairview, Kan., and Lois Quigley, Belleville, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. today, Dorr Funeral Home, Falls City. Burial: Steele Cemetery, Falls City. Family visitation: 10 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Nellie T. Dunbar
1906-1999
CORYDON, Iowa -- Nellie Thelma Dunbar, 93, Corydon, formerly of Lineville, Iowa, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, at a health-care center in Corydon.
Miss Dunbar had taught at the Little Red Schoolhouse, north of Lineville, and later was instrumental in preserving the school as a piece of Iowa history. She also had worked as a tax accountant and managed the family farm near Clio, Iowa.
Born near Lineville on March 24, 1906, she lived most of her life in the Lineville and Clio areas. She had been a resident of a Corydon health-care center since 1985.
Miss Dunbar attended the Little Red Schoolhouse and graduated from Clio High School. She earned a teacher's certificate from Iowa State Teachers College in Ames, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles A. and Ellen Dunbar; two brothers, Claudine and Wayne Dunbar; and a sister, Ethel Lohr.
Surviving: a sister, Mildred Mills, Wichita, Kan.
Service: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel, Lineville. Burial: Clio Cemetery. Visitation: after 8 a.m. today, at the funeral chapel. There is no scheduled family visitation.

Esther M. Findley
1902-1999
GRANT CITY, Mo. -- Esther Mae (McDonald) Findley, 97, Grant City, formerly of Worth and Sheridan, Mo., died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at a health-care center in Grant City.
Born in Allendale, Mo., on Jan. 6, 1902, Mrs. Findley lived most of her life in Worth and Sheridan before moving to a health-care center in Grant City five years ago.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Christian Church in Sheridan.
Mrs. Findley was preceded in death by her husband, Charley T., in 1968; a son, Donald; her parents, Eugene and Laura McDonald; two brothers, Elvis and Orvale McDonald; and a great-grandchild.
Surviving: two sons, Edward, Sheridan, and Russell, Kansas City; two daughters, Anna L. Howes, Altus, Okla., and Linda Musick, Denton, Mont.; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Service: 1 p.m. Thursday, Christian Church, Sheridan. Burial: Miller Cemetery, Denver, Mo. Visitation: after 8 a.m. Wednesday, at the Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home, Grant City, and family visitation: noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, at the church. Memorials may be made to the Sheridan Christian Church.
