Marjorie E. Miller
1924-1999
FAIRVIEW, Kan. -- Marjorie E. (Waddle) Miller, 74, Fairview, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at a hospital in Hiawatha, Kan.
Mrs. Miller was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Falls City, Neb.
In January 1998, she married George L. Miller. He died later that month.
Mrs. Miller also was preceded in death by her parents, Charles R. and Mary A. Waddle; two brothers, Morris and Kenneth Waddle; and two sisters, Helen Smith and Dorthy Timms.
Surviving: a son, George K., Eskridge, Kan.; a daughter, Kathleen Martin, Big Lake, Mo.; a brother, Jim Waddle, Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Thelma Gentry, Omaha; and four grandchildren.
There is no scheduled service or visitation for Mrs. Miller. The body has been cremated. Arrangements: Framke-Casselman-Meek Funeral Home, Hiawatha.

Rosemary K. Nash
1922-1998
ATCHISON, Kan. -- Rosemary Kay (Bailey) Nash, 76, Atchison, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Nash worked for the Electra Manufacturing Co., Atchison, from 1944 to 1954. From 1954 to 1957, she was employed as a governess for the family of Dr. Arthur Whitaker, and from 1954 until her retirement in 1987, she was a floral designer for the M&C; Floral Co., Atchison.
Born Sept. 10, 1922, in Atchison, she was a graduate of Atchison High School. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Soroptimists Club, Business and Professional Women's Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, all of Atchison.
On May 18, 1940, she married Howard E. Nash in Savannah, Mo. He died in 1988.
Mrs. Nash also was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth A. and Edith Bailey.
Surviving: a son, Col. Kenneth H., St. Joseph; a stepbrother, Daniel J. O'Neal, Gaithersburg, Md.; and four grandchildren.
Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Atchison. Burial: Sugar Creek Cemetery, Rushville, Mo. Family visitation: 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Bertha Peterson
1907-1999
BETHANY, Mo. -- Bertha Peterson, 91, Bethany, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at a local health-care center.
Miss Peterson, a practical nurse and home-care giver, was born April 5, 1907, in Harrison County, Mo. She lived in Cainsville, Mo., before moving to Bethany eight years ago.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Cainsville, where she was active in the Women's Circle and taught Sunday school.
Miss Peterson was preceded in death by her parents John E. and Viola M.; three brothers, Ward, Willard and George Stanley; and a sister, Blanche Jones.
Surviving: several nieces and nephews.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Bethany Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Burial: Zoar Cemetery, Cainsville. Family visitation: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home.

Eugene M. Shanks
1903-1999
GOWER, Mo. -- Eugene M. "Gene" Shanks, 95, Gower, formerly of Stanberry, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at a Gower health-care center.
Mr. Shanks was a graduate of Harmony High School, and farmed all of his life.
Born Nov. 6, 1903, near Ravenwood, Mo., he lived north of Stanberry most of his life.
Mr. Shanks was a member of the First Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 109, A.F. & A.M., both of Stanberry.
On Feb. 13, 1925, he married Maude Rogers. She survives of the home.
Mr. Shanks was preceded in death by a son, John; three sisters; and two brothers.
Additional survivors: two sons, George, Gower, and Fred, Stanberry; a sister, Helen Peterson, San Antonio, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Service: 1 p.m. Monday, Johnson Funeral Home, Stanberry. Burial: High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry. Visitation: after 2 p.m. today, at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight.

Lillian K. Skram
1953-1999
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Lillian Kathryn Skram, 45, Columbia, formerly of St. Joseph, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at a Columbia health-care center.
Miss Skram worked for Harts Sheltered Workshop, Sterling, Colo., and was an original resident of the Harts Home for the Retarded. She later was employed at the Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Neb., for 15 years, and worked the past six years at Central Missouri Shelter Enterprises, Columbia.
Born Aug. 31, 1953, in Ankara, Turkey, she attended the Myrtle Miller School for Exceptional Children, St. Joseph, Hoover Grade School, Mason City, Iowa, and Hope Haven, Rock Valley, Iowa.
Miss Skram was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard A. and Joseph J.
Surviving: her parents, Joseph and Mary E., Columbia; four sisters, Suzanne Hart, Columbia, Eleanor A., New York City, Nancy Tolliver, Charleston, W. Va., and Patricia L. Turner, Portland, Ore.; and three brothers, Christopher J. and Peter S., both of Denver, and Paul E., Charleston.
Service: 11 a.m. Monday, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Columbia. Burial: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Mount Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph. Family visitation: 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, at the church. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Our Lady of Lourdes Building Fund, 903 Bernadette Drive, Columbia, MO 65203. Arrangements: Parker Funeral Service & Crematory, Columbia.

Walter E. Sturm
1903-1998
KANSAS CITY -- Walter Edward Sturm, 95, Kansas City, formerly of Maryville, Mo., died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at a Kansas City health-care center.
Mr. Sturm, a farmer, also worked as a fireman for the Chicago Great Western Railroad.
Born March 23, 1903, in Maryville, he lived there until moving to Kansas City in August of 1998.
Mr. Sturm was a member of the Maryville Elks Club and St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Maryville.
On April 16, 1928, he married Beatrice E. Hansen in Conception Junction, Mo. She died in 1977. He married his second wife, Verda G. Lowrance, in January of 1979 at Savannah, Mo. She died in 1987.
Mr. Sturm also was preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Julia; three sisters, Anna Norris, Lena Schulte and Lucille King; and a brother, Emet.
Surviving: two sons, Edwin L., Kansas City, and Clarence, Cleveland; his twin sisters, Mimi Wiggins and Alice M. McKay, both of Overland Park, Kan.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Maryville. Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery, Maryville. A Legion of Mary Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Monday, Price Funeral Home, Maryville, where a parish prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday.

Myron L. Bledsoe
1915-1999
Myron Lee Bledsoe, 83, St. Joseph, formerly of Wathena, Kan., died Sunday, Jan. 2, 1999, at a St. Joseph health-care center.
Mr. Bledsoe retired from the Terminal Warehouse in St. Joseph. During World War II, he served in the Army.
Born in St. Joseph on Dec. 19, 1915, he spent most of his life in St. Joseph. He was a member of the King Hill Christian Church and its bowling team.
Mr. Bledsoe was preceded in death by his parents, Platt and Elizabeth; and a twin brother, Byron E.
Surviving: three nieces, Donna Saunders, Gladstone, Mo., Beth Burtard, New Castle, Colo., and Joyce Wagers, Amazonia, Mo.; and three nephews, Walter Jones, San Felipe, N.M., Bob Jones, Canon City, Colo., and John King, St. Joseph.
Service: 11 a.m. today, Clark-Sampson Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Burial: Westlawn Cemetery, DeKalb, Mo. Visitation: 8:30 to 11 a.m. today, at the funeral home.

Patricia P. Blue
1933-1999
KANSAS CITY -- Patricia Phyllis Blue, 65, Kansas City, formerly of St. Joseph, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital.
Born in St. Joseph on March 16, 1933, Mrs. Blue had been employed as a criminal clerk at the Jackson County Courthouse.
She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and American Business Women's Association, both of Kansas City.
Surviving: her husband, Theodore M. of the home; a son, Donald E., Kansas City; a daughter, Mary K. Stone, Kansas City; a brother, Phillip Dotson; two sisters, Shirley Steele, Kansas City, Kan., and Jeanine Martin, Long Beach, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Service: 3 p.m. Thursday, D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Mo. Burial: Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Mo. Family visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or American Diabetes Association.

Martha R. Briggs
1911-1999
CHARITON, Iowa -- Martha Rebecca (Thompson) Briggs, 87, Chariton, formerly of Princeton, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at a health-care center in Chariton.
Mrs. Briggs had been a teacher in Putnam County, Mo., during her earlier years.
Born in Putnam County on Nov. 20, 1911, she was reared in Unionville, Mo., but had lived most of her life in Ravanna, Mo., and Princeton.
She was a graduate of the Unionville high school and a member of the Princeton United Methodist Church.
On July 23, 1939, she married Cecil M. Briggs. He died in 1981.
Mrs. Briggs also was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Lowe; her parents, John J. and Lora Thompson; four brothers, John, Elbert, Ben and Sam Thompson; and two sisters, Isadora Thompson and Phoebe Prine.
Surviving: two daughters, Dorothy Freshour, Beech Island, S.C., and Judith Holmes, Sycamore, Ill.; a son, John, Kansas City; a brother, Robert Thompson, St. Paul, Neb.; three sisters, Frances Wetzel, Independence, Ore., Virginia Thompson, Corvallis, Ore., and Mary Olson, Aurora, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial service: at a later date. The body has been cremated. Arrangements: Green lee-Middleton Funeral Service, Princeton.

Verne L. Brownlee
1924-1999
GRANDVIEW, Mo. -- Verne L. Brownlee, 74, Grandview, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital.
Mr. Brownlee was a graduate of Cleveland Chiropractic College and a doctor of chiropractic. He retired from Delco-Remy in 1985.
Born on April 7, 1924, in Cowgill, Mo., he graduated from New York High School in Hamilton, Mo.
Mr. Brownlee served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of True Kindred Lodge Grandview chapter No. 145 and Ruskin Heights Presbyterian Church, Kansas City.
Mr. Brownlee was preceded in death by his wife, Frances E. Brownlee in 1998.
Surviving: a nephew, Bill Brownlee, Cameron, Mo.; four neices, Elaine Curtis, Warrensburg, Mo., Donetta Halsey, Holt, Mo., Barbara Nelson, Lake of the Ozark, Mo., and Liz Mathiesen, Kansas City.
Service: 10 a.m. Friday, Ruskin Heights Presbyterian Church, Kansas City. The body has been cremated. Arrangements: Carson Funeral Home, Grandview. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Col. Hugh V. Campbell
1903-1999
CHILLICOTHE, Mo. -- Col. Hugh V. Campbell, 95, Chillicothe, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, in Meadville, Mo.
Mr. Campbell had been employed as an auctioneer and realtor. He was inducted into the Missouri Auctioneers Hall of Fame and National Auctioneers Hall of Fame.
Born in Trenton, Mo., on Sept. 19, 1903, he was a member of the United Methodist Church, Chillicothe; Chillicothe Saddle Club; Lions Club; Missouri Realtors and honorary member of the Future Farmers of America. He had been a volunteer for the Livingston County (Mo.) 4-H Club and Future Farmers of America Fair as an auctioneer during the market livestock sale.
On Jan. 26, 1924, he married Lena E. Gooch in Trenton. She died in 1995.
Mr. Campbell also was preceded in death by his parents, W. Sanford and Naomi; and two brothers, E.S. and Harold.
Surviving: two daughters, Susan Downe, New York City, and Marjory Phillips, Chillicothe; two brothers, Agell, Chillicothe, and Russell, Galt, Mo.; three sisters, Garnet McClellan, Galt, Nadine Sims, Trenton, and Maxine Tolle, Napa, Calif.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Burial: Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe. Visitation: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. There is no scheduled family visitation. Marian D. Duey
1923-1999
FALLS CITY, Neb. -- Marian D. (Dunn) Duey, 75, Falls City, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at the Falls City hospital.
Mrs. Duey had been employed by J.C. Penney and The Vogue, both of Falls City, before her marriage, and at Western Electric in Lincoln, Neb., during World War II. She also had been an office secretary at the First United Methodist Church, Falls City; a census taker for the agriculture census and a secretary for the Richardson County Soil Conservation Service for a number of years until retiring.
Born in Iola, Kan., on July 26, 1923, she lived there until moving to Falls City with her parents. She graduated from the Falls City high school.
Mrs. Duey was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Falls City, where she was active in United Methodist Women, in charge of the newsletter and scripture reading coordinator. She also was a member of the Parent-Teacher Association, Falls City; and had been a Camp Fire Girl leader in Avoca, Iowa; a 4-H Club leader in the Falls City area and a volunteer teacher for the American Heart Association. Mrs. Duey had served as director on the board of directors for Salem Grain Inc. in Salem, Neb.
On March 20, 1944, she married Dwight R. Duey in Hiawatha, Kan. They made their home in Avoca when he returned from the military service and lived there until moving to a farm northwest of Falls City. He died in 1998.
Mrs. Duey also was preceded in death by her parents, Vinton and Shirley Dunn; and a sister, Jean Wiziarde.
Surviving: a son, William R., Albia, Iowa; two daughters, Kay Richter, Overland Park, Kan., and Linda Messing, Prescott, Ariz.; three brothers, Merlin Dunn, Pharr, Texas, Robert Dunn, Orange, Calif., and Ron Dunn, Lincoln; and 12 grandchildren.
Service: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, First United Methodist Church, Falls City. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial: Steele Cemetery, Falls City. Family visitation: 7 to 8 tonight, at the funeral home.

The Rev. David S. Logue
1925-1999
CENTRALIA, Kan. -- The Rev. David S. Logue, 73, Centralia, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at a health-care center in Centralia due to complications from Alzheimers.
The Rev. Logue was former pastor of the United Congregational Church of Christ in Centralia and Seneca, Kan., from 1984 until retiring in 1988 due to health problems. He also had served churches in the Los Angeles area; the Evangelical Reform Church and Congregational United Church of Christ, both of Green wood, Wis., for 17 years; and Congregational United Church of Christ and Christian Church Disciples, both in Columbus, Mont., for almost five years.
After his retirement, he and his wife, Mary, lived for two years in Escondido, Calif., where he worked with and held services for migrant workers in Southern California. They also sang with Audrey Meier, a well-known guitarist, at the men's prison in Chico, Calif.
Born in Wenatchee, Wash., on July 16, 1925, he was reared in Pateros, Wash.
He served in the Marine Corps for four years during World War II.
The Rev. Logue attended the University of Washington, School of Engineering, in Seattle, for a semester. He graduated summa cum laude and received a bachelor of arts divinity degree from the American Baptist Theological Seminary in Covina, Calif. He was ordained in 1965.
The Logue was a former member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Rotary Club, all of Wisconsin; and had been active in the Salvation Army and Union Rescue Mission in California.
On Nov. 4, 1948, he married Mary L. Wade in Los Angeles. The couple moved from Escondido to Centralia in 1991. He was a resident of a health-care center in Centralia since October 1991. She survives of the home.
The Rev. Logue was preceded in death by his parents, Fame and Olive; and a sister, Doris Schultz.
Additional survivors: three sons, Lawrence, Escondido, and Gregory and Vincent, both of Algona, Iowa; two daughters, Sharon Rogers, Escondido, and Jeannette Logue, Algona; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Congregational United Church of Christ, Centralia; and 2 p.m. Friday, Eastridge Care Home, Centralia. The body has been cremated. Inurnment: Tuesday, Jan. 12, Oak Hill Memorial Park, Escondido. Memorials may be made to the Congregational United Church of Christ and Eastridge Care Home, both of Centralia, in care of the family. Arrangements: Lauer Funeral Home, Seneca, Kan.
