Lois M. Mullinix
1920-1999
WATHENA, Kan. -- Lois M. (Henshaw) Mullinix, 78, Wathena, formerly of St. Joseph, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at a Kansas health-care center.
Mrs. Mullinix had been a dancer on Broadway for 15 years. She also had been employed as a waitress in the St. Joseph area and retired from the Bucket Shop restaurant in St. Joseph.
Born in Youngstown, Ohio, on July 21, 1920, she lived in St. Joseph after her career on Broadway. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in St. Joseph.
Mrs. Mullinix was preceded in death by her husband, Homer L., in 1991; and her parents, Paul and Inez A. Henshaw.
Surviving: Mary Elam, Wathena, who had cared for her.
The body has been cremated. There will be no visitation nor service. Arrangements were by Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph.

Margaret A. Neptune
1928-1999
CHILLICOTHE, Mo. -- Margaret A. (Wallen) Neptune, 70, Chillicothe, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at a Chillicothe health-care center.
Mrs. Neptune was a housekeeper for the Long-Blum Retirement Center and a homemaker.
She was born on March 9, 1928, in Amarillo, Texas.
Mrs. Neptune was a member of the Chillicothe (Mo.) Church of Christ.
On Feb. 10, 1945, she married Norman Neptune. He died in 1975.
Mrs. Neptune also was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Anna H. Wallen, and a brother, Ed Wallen.
Surviving: four sons, Ed, and Patrick, both of Chillicothe, Norman E. , Dawn, Mo., Mike, Westford, Mass.; a daughter, Patricia Oleson, Chillicothe; two sisters, Juanita Tusinger, Muskagee, Okla., and Opal Massey, Tulsa, Okla.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside service and burial: 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Mt. Hope Cemetery, Humboldt, Kan. Visitation: after noon today and from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 tonight.

John W. Plattner
1909-1999
SABETHA, Kan. -- John William Plattner, 89, Sabetha, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at a health-care center in Sabetha.
Mr. Plattner farmed in the Sabetha area from the time of his marriage until moving into Sabetha in 1978.
Born near Sabetha on June 24, 1909, he lived all of his life along Deer Creek. He attended the Eureka School and was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Sabetha.
On Feb. 21, 1939, he married Marie T. Lehman in Seneca. They lived and farmed west of Sabetha Lake until moving into Sabetha. She died in 1992.
Mr. Plattner also was preceded in death by a son, Gerald; his parents, Jacob and Lena; a brother, Albert; and a great-grandchild.
Surviving: four sons, Eldon, Carroll and Don, all of Sabetha, and Howard, Lowell, Mich.; three brothers, Walter, Henry and Ben, all of Sabetha; five sisters, Marie and Helen Plattner, Tillie Menold and Alice Deaver, all of Sabetha; and Laura Keim, Fairview, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Apostolic Christian Church, Sabetha. Burial: Sabetha Cemetery. Family visitation: 7 to 8:30 tonight, at the Popkess Mortuary, Sabetha. Memorials may be made to the Sabetha Apostolic Christian Home or the Sabetha Community Hospital Foundation in care of the mortuary.

Frances L. Ross
1917-1999
WESTON, Mo. -- Frances Lucille (Cassity) Ross 81, Weston, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at her residence in Weston.
Mrs. Ross worked for Dr. Raymond J. Felling's Clinic as a registered nurse and for St. John's Hospital in Leavenworth, Kan., for 20 years.
Born on March 3, 1917, she was a graduate of Trinity Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, Leavenworth.
Mrs. Ross was a board member of Platte County Health Board for 35 years.
On Oct. 24, 1940, she married Shirley Lee Ross in St. Joseph. He died in 1996.
Mrs. Ross also was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Elizabeth Cassity; and a brother, Zebediah B. Cassity.
Surviving: three daughters, Carolyn A. Bean, Los Angeles, Linda Gericke, Kansas City, and Mary J. Meidrick, Ashland, Ore.; a brother, Forrest Cassity, Dearborn, Mo.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, Vaughn Funeral Chapel, Weston. Burial: Mount Bethel Cemetery, Weston. Visitation: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Weston, (Mo.) Christian Church or to Kendallwood Hospice.

Margaret Smith
1911-1999
BENSON, N.C. -- Margaret (Benton) Smith, Benson, 87, died Monday Jan. 4, 1999, at a Smithfield, N.C. hospital.
Mrs. Smith taught drama and music.
She was born on April 24, 1911, in Mecklenburg County.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Benson Baptist Church, where she was organist for 52 years.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Smith; and her parents, J.B. and Minnie Benton.
Surviving: a son, Robert L. Jr., Hope Mills, N.C.; two sisters, Mildred B. Canaday, Benson, and Joan B. Machmer, St. Joseph; a brother, Howard Benton, Benson; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Benson Baptist Church. Burial: Roselawn Cemetery, Benson. Visitation: 7 to 9 tonight. Memorials may be made to Benson Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 23,Benson, NC 27504, or to a favorite charity.

Norma A.K. Taylor
1922-1998
MOUND CITY, Mo. -- Norma Ann Kathryn (Liley) Taylor, 76, Mound City, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at a health-care center in Mound City.
Born in Oregon, Mo., on Oct. 3, 1922, Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker and farmer. She and her husband, James, also had operated the Dairy Queen in Oregon for several years.
On May 29, 1940, she married James Taylor in Oregon. He is deceased.
She also was preceded in death by a son, James J.; and her parents, Norty and Maud Liley.
Surviving: a daughter, Anne Rebel, Kimberling City, Mo.
The body has been cremated. There will be no visitation nor service. Inurnment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Oregon. Arrangements were by the Pettijohn & Crawford Funeral Home, Mound City.

Robert E. Bowles Jr.
1915-1999
Robert E. "Bob" Bowles Jr., 83, St. Joseph, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at a St. Joseph health-care center.
Mr. Bowles worked in the insurance and investment field as an independent agent for mutual funds from 1961 until 1980. He also was involved in banking in Liberty, Mo., and Prairie Village, Kan., and was a sales representative for Swift & Co. before World War II.
During the war, he served with the Army as an artillery officer. He was in the Armed Services for five years, and remained in the Army Reserves until being discharged at the rank of captain. He was a graduate of William Jewell College, Liberty.
Born Dec. 19, 1915, in Liberty, he lived there until moving to St. Joseph in 1960. He was a member of Wyatt Park Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He also was past commander of the American Legion, Liberty, and was a member of the Lions Club, St. Joseph.
On June 27, 1942, he married Minnetta B. Addison in Fort Sill, Okla. She survives of the home.
Mr. Bowles was preceded in death by a son, Timothy A.; his parents, Robert E. Sr. and Florentine C.; and a brother, Chester S.
Additional survivors: a son, Douglas H., Kansas City; two brothers, Renile, Janesville, Wis., and Dr. Richard P., Liberty; a sister, Sylvia F., Liberty; and four grandchildren.
Service: 10 a.m. Friday, Meierhoffer Family Funeral Care, St. Joseph. Burial: New Hope Cemetery, Liberty. Family visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials contributions may be sent to the building fund at Wyatt Park Baptist Church, St. Joseph.

Roberta L. Clark
1905-1999
CAMERON, Mo. -- Roberta Lee (Gray) Clark, 93, Cameron, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at Cameron.
Mrs. Clark was a graduate of the Jameson (Mo.) High School, and worked as a seamstress for the former Hollywood-Maxwell Co., Cameron.
Born March 23, 1905, in Gallatin, Mo., she lived the past 30 years in Cameron. She was a member of the Cameron First Baptist Church.
On June 3, 1928, she married James W. Clark in Atchison, Kan. He died in 1967.
Mrs. Clark also was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence; his parents, Jacob and Leora Gray; three brothers, Gilbert, Clinton and Jacob Gray Jr.; and two sisters, Marie Place and Helen Barnett.
Surviving: a brother, Bill Gray, Winchester, Kan.; three sisters, Ann O'Neal, Cameron, Marjorie Gibson, Anaheim, Calif., and Margaret Duke, Hobbs, N.M.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron. Burial: Cameron Memory Gardens Cemetery. Family visitation: 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Cameron First Baptist Church.

Charles W. Clary
1904-1999
HIGHLAND, Kan. -- Charles W. Clary, 94, Highland, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at a hospital in Hiawatha, Kan.
Born Aug. 8, 1904, near Troy, Kan., Mr. Clary was reared near Troy, where he worked for Brazelton Farms as an apple picker in the orchards for several years.
In 1950, he moved to Highland, where he worked for the Utz & Allen Farms and Seed Corn business. In later years, he worked for the Doniphan County (Kan.) Highway Department until his retirement.
On April 5, 1928, he married Matie Sutton in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Clary was preceded in death by his parents, William and Myrtle; four brothers; and two sisters.
Additional survivors: a son, Conrad R., rural Highland; a daughter, Anna M. Korthanke, Hiawatha; a sister, Mary Taylor, Troy; nine grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha. Burial: Highland Cemetery. Visitation: after 10 a.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Highland Ambulance Fund, in care of the funeral home, 519 N. First St., Hiawatha, KS 66434.

Persis J. Courter
1907-1999
CAMERON, Mo. -- Persis Jean (Kennedy) Courter, 91, Cameron, formerly of Kidder, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 4, 1998, at a Cameron hospital.
Mrs. Courter received her bachelor's degree in education from Northeast Missouri State University at Kirksville. She taught at Bessie Ellison Elementary School until her retirement in 1970.
Born June 19, 1907, in Breckenridge, Mo., she lived in Kidder most of her life, moving to Cameron in 1989.
Mrs. Courter was a member of the Kidder Christian Church, National Retired Teachers Association and Rebecca's Lodge.
In 1960, she married Roscoe Courter in Oklahoma. He died in 1963.
Mrs. Courter also was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mollie Kennedy.
Surviving: a sister, Ida Look, Cameron.
Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, Brown Funeral Home, Cameron. Burial: Cameron Memory Gardens Cemetery. Family visitation: 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Kidder Christian Church.

Lyndel Garland
1938-1999
CAMERON, Mo. -- Lyndel Garland, 60, Cameron, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at a Cameron hospital.
Mr. Garland served in the military for 20 years, working in detail with Presidents Ford, Carter and Reagan. He later became a self-employed carpenter.
Born May 16, 1938, in Blount County, Tenn., he was a high school graduate and lived in Cameron since 1988.
Surviving: his wife, Francis M. Garland, of the home; and three sons, Lynn, St. Joseph, Mike, Hamilton, Mo., and Mark, Cameron.
A memorial service and inurnment will be at a later date in Tennessee. The body has been cremated. Arrangements: Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron.

Mamie E. Gentry
1895-1999
MOUND CITY, Mo. -- Mamie Elizabeth (Nichols) Gentry, 103, Mound City, formerly of Forest City, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, at a Mound City health-care center.
Mrs. Gentry, a homemaker and farmer, was a member of the First Christian Church, Mound City.
Born Dec. 1, 1895, in Holt County, Mo., she attended the Oregon (Mo.) High School and the Normal School, Maryville, Mo.
On Feb. 3, 1916, she married Frank Gentry on the family farm south of Mound City. He died in 1957.
Mrs. Gentry also was preceded in death by a son, H. Wayne; her parents, John and Lelia Nichols; and two sisters, Edna Boyd and Dale Dailey.
Surviving: a son, John, Ukiah, Calif.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, Pettijohn & Crawford Funeral Home, Mound City. Burial: Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City. Visitation: after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to the First Christian Church, 402 E. Fifth St., Mound City, MO 64470.

Billy K. Goble
1934-1999
ALANTHUS GROVE, Mo.-- Billy K. Goble, 64, Alanthus Grove, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at an area health-care center.
Mr. Goble was born Nov. 13, 1934, in Harrison County, Mo., north of McFall. He was a truck driver and a member of the Gentryville (Mo.) Baptist Church.
On Sept. 10, 1983, he married Phyllis F. Holmes. She died in 1995.
Mr. Goble also was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Reba.
Surviving: three sons, Billy C., McFall, Bobby K., Albany, Mo., and Jimmy D., St. Joseph; a daughter, Tammie J. Schmitz, Savannah, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Service: 1 p.m. Saturday, Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany. Burial: Grant City (Mo.) Cemetery. Visitation: after 9 a.m. Friday at the chapel. Family visitation: after 7 p.m. Friday at the chapel, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Spitfire Banquet Room, Albany.
