Myrtle Peuker
1905-1999
PHOENIX -- Myrtle (Cordonier) Peuker, 93, Phoenix, formerly of Highland, Kan., died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at a Phoenix hospital.
Born Dec. 11, 1905, in Wathena, Kan., Mrs. Peuker was a longtime resident of Highland, moving to Phoenix almost five years ago.
She was a member of the Highland United Methodist-Presbyterian Church and attended Lincoln Adult Day Care Center.
Mrs. Peuker was preceded in death by a son, Albert W. Jr.; and her parents, William S. and Mary Cordonier.
Surviving: two daughters, Janet Spangler, Phoenix, and Vera A. Harr, Savannah, Mo.; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Service: 2 p.m. Sunday, Highland (Kan.) United Methodist-Presbyterian Church. Burial: near Wathena. Visitation: after 11 a.m. Saturday at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Highland. A family visitation is scheduled from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be sent to the church memorial fund, in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 33, Highland, KS 66035.

Loren A. Pflaum
1915-1999
RULO, Neb. -- Loren A. Pflaum, 83, Rulo, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at a Falls City, Neb. hospital.
Mr. Pflaum worked as a farmer and lived on the same farm near Rulo for 80 years.
Born on June 16, 1915, he was a member of BPO Elks No. 963.
On Oct. 31, 1947, he married Helen Pupkes in Omaha, Neb. She survives of the home.
Mr. Pflaum was preceded in death by a sister, Floerna.
The body has been cremated. Inurnment will be scheduled for a later date. Arrangements: Clark Funeral Home, Falls City.

Marjorie W. Pfost
1918-1999
MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Marjorie W. (Wilson) Pfost, 80, Manhattan, formerly of Cowgill, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at a Manhattan health-care center.
Mrs. Pfost worked at the business office for food service at Michigan State University and in a farm operation.
She was born on May 19, 1918, in Cowgill, Mo.
Mrs. Pfost was a member of First Congregational Church in Manhattan, Kansas State University Social Club, P.E.O. Sisterhood, chapter FK, and the board of directors at Meadowlark Hills Retirement.
Mrs. Pfost was preceded in death by her husband, Harry B. Pfost; her parents, Frank and Ethel Wilson; and a sister, Lois Grabinski.
Surviving: two brothers-in-law, E.O. Grabinski, Escondido, Calif., and Donald Pfost, Columbia, Mo.; four nieces and one aunt.
Graveside service and burial: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Cowgill, (Mo.) Cemetery. No visitation is planned. Arrangements: Pitts Funeral Home, Braymer, Mo. Memorial may be made to First Congregational Church or Meadowlark Hills in care of the funeral home.

Lewis F. Randolph Jr.
1926-1999
Lewis F. Randolph Jr., 73, St. Joseph, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Randolph retired as an attorney in St. Joseph. He also served in the Army during World War II.
Born Jan. 13, 1926, in St. Joseph, he received his law degree from the University of Kansas.
Mr. Randolph was a member of the Christian faith and was a member of American Legion Post No. 359.
In 1955, he married Yvette Freie in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Randolph was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Sr. and Roberta.
Additional survivors: a stepson, Roger Glenn, Crete, Neb.; a stepdaughter, Shirley Glenn, Green Mountain, Iowa; a brother, Robert, St. Joseph; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The body will be cremated. Inurnment: National Cemetery, Leavenworth, at a later date. There is no scheduled family visitation. Arrangements: Rupp Funeral Home, St. Joseph.

Juanita M. Salmon
1918-1999
BETHANY, Mo. -- Juanita M. (Allen) Salmon, 80, Bethany, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at a Bethany health-care center.
Mrs. Salmon, a homemaker, was a member of the United Methodist Church, Bethany.
Mrs. Salmon was born Feb. 25, 1918, in Bethany.
On Sept. 4, 1937, she married Earl Salmon. He died in 1995.
Mrs. Salmon also was preceded in death by a son, Douglas; and her parents, Clayton and Hattie Allen.
Surviving: a grandson, Sean, Quinlan, Texas; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside service and burial: 2 p.m. Thursday, Miriam Cemetery, Bethany. Visitation: after 2 p.m. today, Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany.

Esther I. Thomson
1916-1999
MOUND CITY, Mo. -- Esther I. Thomson, 82, Mound City, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at a Fairfax, Mo. hospital.
Miss Thomson worked in the garment industry in Kansas City, having lived there most of her adult life before moving to Mound City in 1998.
Born June 20, 1916, in Fairfax, she was a graduate of Fairfax High School.
Miss Thomson was a member of Westport Presbyterian Church of Kansas City and Order of Eastern Star, Fairfax.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lila Thomson; a brother, Robert; and two sisters, Julia Thomson and Helen Lytle.
Surviving: a sister, Edith Metzgar, Mound City, Mo.; and nieces and nephews.
Service: 10 a.m. Thursday, Schooler Funeral Home, Fairfax. Burial: English Grove Cemetery, Fairfax. There is no planned visitation.

Lee D. Thomson
1910-1999
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Lee Davidson Thomson, 88, Maryville, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at a Maryville health-care center.
Mr. Thomson was a mail clerk with the Veterans Administration in Leavenworth, Kan., retiring in 1975.
Born Sept. 16, 1910, in Fairfax, Mo., he was a graduate of Daleview High School in Fairfax.
Mr. Thomson was a member of Maryville First Presbyterian Church, also American Legion Post No. 94 and King Soloman Masonic Lodge No. 10 A.F.&A.M.; both of Leavenworth.
Mr. Thomson was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Christena; four brothers, Richard, Thomas, Joseph and William; and five sisters, Elizabeth Tyson, Agnes Dice, Janet Fries, Ann Sifers and Marian Froman.
Surviving: her sister-in-law, Marian Thomson, Springfield, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service and burial: 11 a.m. Friday, National Cemetery, Leavenworth. Visitation: any time at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville.

Sara B. Workman
1908-1999
CAMERON, Mo. -- Sara B. (Kenney) Workman, 90, Cameron, formerly of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at a Cameron health-care center.
Mrs. Workman was a clerical worker for the State Sales Tax Office, Jefferson City, and the Kenney-Hartzell Insurance Agency, Cameron.
Born Nov. 17, 1908, in Cameron, she was a graduate of Cameron High School.
Mrs. Workman was a member of St. Munchins Catholic Church, Cameron, and the Alter Society of the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay, in 1983; her parents, Walter and Margaret Kenney; four brothers, Walter, Joseph, Carrol and Lawrence Kenney; and three sisters, Margaret Downey, Nelle Akey and Grace Switzer.
Surviving: several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, St. Munchins Catholic Church, Cameron. Burial: St. Munchins Catholic Cemetery, Cameron. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron.

Grace A. Winters
1913-1999
FALLS CITY, Neb. -- Grace A. (Koehler) Winters, 86, Falls City, formerly of Highland, Hiawatha, and Marysville, Kan., died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at a hospital in Falls City.
Mrs. Winters worked for Ben Franklin Stores in Hiawatha and Marysville.
Born Jan. 11, 1913, in Falls City, she was a graduate of Falls City High School.
Mrs. Winters was a member of First United Presbyterian Church and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary No. 43, both of Falls City.
On May 10, 1937, she married Harold S. Winters in St. Joseph. After their marriage they established their home in Highland. They later moved to Hiawatha and Marysville before settling in Falls City in 1968. Her husband survives of the home.
Mrs. Winters was preceded in death by an infant son, Ronald D.; her parents, George and Maggie Koehler; three brothers, John, Robert and James Koehler; and two sisters, Helen Albright and June Bumbaugh.
The body has been cremated. Inurnment: Highland (Kan.) Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements: Dorr Funeral Home, Falls City.

Bertha M. Adams
1912-1999
LATHROP, Mo. - Bertha Maude (Jordan) Adams, 86, Lathrop, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at a health-care center in Lathrop.
Mrs. Adams, a homemaker, also had worked at the Whitehouse Boiler Co. in Kansas City.
Born in Granola, Kan., on April 1, 1912, she was a graduate of the Granola high school and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lathrop.
On Jan. 18, 1938, she married Fred Adams in Kansas City. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Anna Jordan; four sisters, Faye Kelley, Wilma McClure, Edna McNeely and Lois Brown; and a brother, Glenn Jordan.
Additional survivor: a daughter, Linda Adams, Lathrop.
Service: 2 p.m. Friday, First Baptist Church, Lathrop. Burial: Lathrop Cemetery. Family visitation: one hour prior to the service, at the church. Arrangements: Bailey Funeral Home, Lathrop.

Berniece Brown
1917-1999
Berniece (Zelfer) Gerber Brown, 81, St. Joseph, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at her residence.
Born in Atchison, Kan., on Aug. 14, 1917, Mrs. Brown had been employed as a seamstress and supervisor at the former Big Smith clothing manufacturer in St. Joseph. She had lived in Dearborn, Mo., prior to moving to St. Joseph in 1982.
She was a member of the Family Worship Center in St. Joseph.
On Sept. 24, 1988, she married Richard L. Brown. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by a husband, Milton Gerber; her parents, Edward and Viola Zelfer; and a brother, Leo Zelfer.
Additional survivors: a stepson, Robert F. Brown, Savannah, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Karen Wallerich, Mesa, Ariz.; two brothers, Donald Zelfer, Kansas City, and Francis Zelfer, Hutchinson, Kan.; a sister, Dorothy Buck, Atchison; and four grandchildren.
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph. Burial: Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison. Visitation: after 9 a.m. today, at the chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Sarah L. Campbell
1921-1999
STANBERRY, Mo. - Sarah Lovona Campbell, 77, Stanberry, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 199, at a health-care center in Stanberry.
Mrs. Campbell had worked as a cook for the Midway Cafe in Stanberry.
Born in Watson, Mo., on Dec. 27, 1921, she was a lifelong resident of the Stanberry area. She was of the Christian faith.
Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by a husband, Elbert S. Williams, in 1973; and a son, Elbert Williams.
Surviving: two sons, Rickie Williams, Ozark, Mo., and Clarence Williams, Springfield, Mo.; and five daughters, Della Ireland, Darlington, Mo., Stella Hess and Shirley Travis, both of Elwood, Kan., and Leola Betz and Darlene Corwin, both of Ozark.
Graveside memorial service and inurnment: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Ashland Cemetery, St. Joseph. The body will be cremated. Arrangements: Johnson Funeral Home, Stanberry,

Edwin I. Cluke
1929-1999
ATCHISON, Kan. - Edwin I. Cluke, 70, Atchison, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at the Atchison hospital following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Cluke had been employed by the Kerford Quarry for a number of years; and L.F.M. until it became Rockwell International, all of Atchison, where he retired in 1989 as a riser-burner. Rockwell is now Atchison Casting.
Born in Atchison on Jan. 20, 1929, he was graduated from the Atchison high school, where he was active in the band. He served in the Army from 1946 to 1952.
He was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Atchison, where he was a deacon, and active in the men's chorus and senior choir. Mr. Cluke also was a member of the Fellowship Club, Morning Star Masonic Lodge, Hunters Safety Club and Fleming-Jackson-Seever American Legion Post No. 6, all of Atchison. He had served as head coach for the Little Gold Football Team and was a sponsor for the Top Dog Drill Team, both of Atchison.
On Oct. 30, 1955, he married Grace E. Allen in Atchison. She survives of the home.
Mr. Cluke was preceded in death by his parents, Silas C. and Sarah E.; two brothers, Harry C. and Norman E.; and a sister, Doris Watson Cluke.
Additional survivors: two sons, Silas and Edwin, both of Atchison; two daughters, Karen Slade, Burlington, N.C., and Marta Oliver, Burlington, N.J.; a sister, Rosella Jones, Denver, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Service: 11:30 a.m. Friday, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Atchison. Burial: Leavenworth, Kan.,, National Cemetery. Family visitation: 7 to 8:30 tonight, at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Atchison. Memorials may be made to the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Atchison, in care of the funeral home.
