Mary Edith Goolsby, age 91, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2003 at her home in Carrollton.
She was born September 7, 1912 in Carrollton, Missouri the daughter of Rolla and Laura Loney Wallace. She attended Carrollton Schools and graduated from Carrollton High School.
In 1932 Mary married Wirt C. Goolsby at her parent's home in Carrollton. He preceded her in death. Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church, Carrollton, Missouri. She had been a nursery attendant there for twenty-five years. She was a Certified Nurses Aide and had worked at Carroll House, Carrollton Nursing Center, Lancaster Nursing Home and as a private home nurse.
Mary is survived by two daughters, Shirley Ward and Ruby Goolsby, both of Carrollton, Missouri; one brother, Roy Wallace, San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren, Chuck Ward and George Ward, both of Carrollton, Missouri, Katie Narron, Waverly, Missouri; four great grandchildren, Joseph and Paige Narron, Waverly, Missouri, and Ryan and Heather Cromley, Carrollton, Missouri.
Mary was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Jewell, Marion, Leon and O.L. Wallace; two sisters, Jessie Herndon and Margaret Wallace; one sister in infancy; and two grandsons.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 15, 2003 at Pleasant Park Cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri with Reverend Jeff Maxwell officiating.
Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m., Sunday, December 14, 2003 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri.
The family suggests contributions be made to H.E.L.P. Services or the First Baptist Church of Carrollton in memory or Mary. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main. Carrollton MO 64633.

Joyce Jean Bell, 45, of Bosworth, Missouri, passed away at her home in Bosworth, Missouri on December 11, 2003 surrounded by her family. She was born December 11, 1958 at Chillicothe, Missouri, the daughter of Donald L. Ireland, Sr. and Betty Jean Kirker of Bosworth, Missouri. She married Steven Aaron Bell, Sr. at the Christian Church in Bosworth, May 23, 1976. She graduated from Bosworth High School in 1976. In 1979 she graduated from Central Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education with a Major in Math and Minor in Business Administration. In December 1993, she graduated from Central Missouri State University with a Masters of Science in Counseling. She taught math for two years at Bosworth and nine years at Wheeling. After Wheeling School closed, she worked one year for the Division of Family Services in Marshall, Missouri. She has taught the last eleven years at the Hale R-1 School. She taught Math for two years and has worked nine years as the Guidance Counselor. She also taught a college level Psychology class through interactive TV, and assisted with the technology in the school district. She was the student council sponsor for eleven years, and the senior class sponsor for three years. She was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, and the Missouri School Guidance Counselors Association. Joyce served on the Carroll County Little League Board for twelve years. She served as player agent for the Little League boys, and coached a Little League girl's team along with being an assistant coach for one of the girl's All-Star teams. She is a member of the Bosworth Baptist Church where she made a profession of faith at an early age. She taught a Sunday school class and was the church clerk for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Steve, of twenty-seven years, two sons, Aaron Bell and wife, Megan, and granddaughter, Emily Bell, and Nickolas Bell and fiance', Karmen Painter, Bosworth, and a daughter, Megan Marie Bell, of the home; her parents, Donald and Betty Ireland, Bosworth; a sister, Donna Forrest and husband, Mike, Bosworth; a brother, Donnie Ireland and wife, Kim, Mound City, Missouri; a foster brother, Justin Daniels, Meadville, Missouri; her mother and father-in-law, Bonnie and Al Richards, Bosworth; a cousin, Frank Ireland and wife, Linda, Ellensburg, Washington; six nephews, Brad Forrest, Jeremy Forrest, Randy Forrest, Andrew Ireland, Trey Bell, and Tent Bell; five nieces, Sharon Bell, Laveda Broyles, Jessi Bell, Sydney Ireland, Tylea Bell and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her father-in-law, Jackie Bell; and a cousin, Brenda Ireland.
Joyce loved sports, flowers and working with young people. She was very proud of her children and family and they were a very integral part of her life. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, December 14, 2003 at Hale High School, Hale, Missouri with Reverend Bruce Trussell officiating. Burial will be in Big Creek Cemetery, Bosworth, Missouri. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.
The family suggests contributions be made to H.E.L.P. Services Cancer Fund or the Joyce Bell Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Joyce. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.

Helen D. Schnare, age 88, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at Apple Ridge Care Center, Waverly, Missouri.
She was born March 8, 1915 in Bosworth, Missouri, the daughter of Albert and Naomi Swiggett Thurlo. She attended Tina Grade Schools and graduated from Tina High School, Tina, Missouri.
On February 19, 1945, she married Henry W. Schnare in Kansas City, Kansas. He survives at the home. Helen was a housewife, mother and a beautician in the shops of Crystal Taylor and Elda Graper. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Carrollton, Missouri where she worked with the Braille program and Lutheran Ladies Aid.
Helen is also survived by one son, Milton Schnare and wife, Cheri, Carrollton, Missouri; two sisters, Anna Belle Wiechert, Kansas City, Missouri, Marjorie Fisher, Hale, Missouri; one grandson, Neil Schnare, Blue Springs, Missouri; one granddaughter, Leah Schnare, Blue Springs, Missouri; and one step grandson, Martin Dust, New York City, New York.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Henry Thurlo.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, December 19, 2003 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Carrollton, Missouri with Pastor Eric Swyres officiating. Burial will be in Carroll Memory Gardens, Carrollton, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 7-8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 18, 2003 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Radio Fund in memory of Mrs. Schnare. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main St., Carrollton MO 64633.

Jimmie Brown, age 59, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at Fitzgibbon Hospital, Marshall, Missouri.
He was born March 18, 1944 in Centerville, Iowa the son of William Riley and Hannah Marie Krumm Brown. He received his GED while serving in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1965. He was a scuba diver and a boilers mate in the submarine division aboard the Medrigal. He was a heavy equipment operator for Tyhurst Brothers and C. C. Schlueter for thirty-five years.
On September 23, 1970, he married Karen Bartlett in Bogard, Missouri. She survives at the home.
In addition to his wife, Karen, Jim is also survived by four children, Jim Lee Brown, II, Carrollton, Missouri, Veronica Elliott and husband, Roger, DeWitt, Missouri, Dustin Brown, of the home, Diana Thomas, Carrollton, Missouri; two brothers, Robert Brown, Carrollton, Missouri, David Brown, Chillicothe, Missouri; two sisters, Alice Elliott, Ellisville, Mississippi, Shirley Bryson, Harrington, Washington; seven grandchildren, Samantha Jo Long-Brown, Jessika Windsor, Roger Elliott II, Triston Brown, Brittany Garrison, Paige Thomas, Jasmyne Thomas and several nieces and nephews and three step granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 20, 2003 at Rock Branch Cemetery, Tina, Missouri with Reverend Bert Hughes officiating.
Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m., Friday, December 19, 2003 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri.
The family suggests contributions be made to the family's choice in memory of Mr. Brown. They may be mailed to or left at Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.

John Hubert Franken, 88, of, died Saturday, December 20, 2003, at the Carroll Carrollton, Mo County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
Mr. Franken was born January 14, 1915, in Norborne, Mo, the son of Joseph Hubert and Anna (Barkley) Franken. He resided in Norborne until moving to Carrollton in 2002. He married Carrollton resident, Priscilla Margaret Tatro, July 19, 1952, in Excelsior Springs, Mo. She preceded him in death May 19, 2001.
Mr Franken practiced law in Carrollton for over 55 years, having retired a few years before his death. He began his law practice by joining his uncle, William A. Franken, in 1940. Carrollton resident, Robert A. Bryant, and Mr. Franken's son, John, subsequently joined the firm. He also was a member of the Carroll County and Missouri Bar Associations. He served as City Attorney for Norborne and as secretary of numerous levee and drainage districts.
Mr. Franken was a life-long member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Norborne, Mo, and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Cloumbus. He also was a board member of the Farmers & Merchants Bank of Hale for 41 years, having retired in 2003. He was a member of the Norborne Lions Club and was a veteran, having served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Franken's passion was politics and he was active in Democratic politics, working for numerous local, state-wide and national candidates. He also served as chairman of the Carroll County Democratic Central Committee for numerous years.
He is survived by twin sons, Dennis T. Franken, of the home, and John C. Franken and his wife, Terre A. Franken, two granddaughters, Sarah E. Franken and Laura E. Franken, all of Carrollton, and several nieces and nephews, his only sibling, Joan K. (Franken) Woods, having preceded him in death.

Allan K. Nall age, 75, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away December 22, 2003,at the North Kansas City Hospital. He was born September 4, 1928, in Stilson Iowa, the son of Russell D. and Winnie L. (Thompson) Nall.
He was married on October 16, 1954 to Lois Barbara Bugh in Stilson, Iowa, she preceded him in death on April 24, 2003.
He attended Grade and High School in Pritt, Iowa and served in the United States Army.
He was employed as a Storage-Tech Manger in charge of return merchandise. He was a member of V.F.W. American Legion.
He is survived by one brother Arlynn Nall and wife Harriett of Fayetteville, Arkansas; one sister-in law Ruby Nall, of Raleigh, North Carolina; Nine Nieces and Five Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Merle.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, December 29, 2003 , at the Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, with the Reverend Bert Hughes officiating
Visitation from 9:15 to 10:15 before service time.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery with Military Graveside Services conducted by the Pence-Lovell-England Post # 1773 of the Veterans of the Foreign Wars .
The family suggests contributions to the H.E.L.P. Services Cancer Fund or the Carrollton Senior Center in memory of Mr. Nall.

David Sidney Ely, age 84, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2003 at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton, Missouri.
He was born March 31, 1919 in Butler, Missouri the son of Benjamine Franklin & Crissy Helen Frush Ely. He attended Adrian Grade and High School and attended a school of welding in Chicago, Illinois.
On October 4, 1941, he married Marjorie Lee Matson in Yuma, Arizona. She survives at the home.
David had worked as a blacksmith, welder, machinist; and had worked for solar aircraft during the war.
David is also survived by one daughter, Mary Helen Grimpo and husband, Dale Ray, Carrollton, Missouri; one sister, Winnie Burton, Independence, Missouri; four grandchildren, Richard Aaron Grimpo and wife, Mickie, Christopher Keith Grimpo and wife, Nikki, Matthew Darren Grimpo and wife, Shelly, Susan Myler and husband, Jeff; ten great grandchildren, Ashley, Christopher, Catarina, Oksana, Daria, Montgomery, Kaylee, Caleb, Hannah and Jordan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Charlotte Epps, Corine Weddington, and Alice Manyacia.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, December 27, 2003 at the family cemetery located at the residence of David and Marjorie.
Mr. Ely will lie in state at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, until service time.

Irma Irene (Gibson) Walden, age 83, of the White Rock area, passed away Thursday, January 1, 2003 at Carroll County Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
She was born March 12, 1920 in Sugar Tree, Missouri, the daughter of James Garfield and Elsie May White Gibson. She attended Dick and Wilson country schools and Norborne High School.
On July 29, 1939, she married Gideon Calvin Walden in DeWitt, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1996. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Irma was a Democratic Committeewoman in Carroll County; and a member of the Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge. She had worked at Banquet Foods, Carroll County Memorial Hospital and Carrollton State Hospital then retiring from Marshall Habilitation Center. She was a farm wife, and loved gardening.
Irma is survived by ten children, Pricilla Ann Tapio, San Antonio, Texas, Elsie Jean Ammon, Carrollton, Missouri, Billie Joyce Jordan, Waverly, Missouri, Terry Jeanette Phillips, Excelsior Springs, Missouri, Gideon Calvin Walden, Jr., Excelsior Springs, Missouri, Harry Mitchell Walden, Carrollton, Missouri, John Russell Walden, Marshall, Missouri, Richard Curtist Walden, Warsaw, Missouri, Patrick Neil Walden, Carrollton, Missouri, Jerrold Michael Walden, Blue Springs, Missouri; twenty-four grandchildren, Bruce Wheeler, Maysville, North Carolina, Teddy Wheeler, State of Alaska, Paulette Thomas, Carrollton, Missouri, Katharine David George, Havelock, North Carolina, Joyce Willis, Julie Baker and Pamela Williams, all of Waverly, Missouri, Jill Banks, Linn, Missouri, Burnie Jordan, Jr., Marshall, Missouri, Randall Phillips, Carrollton, Missouri, Wendy Caudillo, Liberty, Missouri, Lonney Phillips, Orrick, Missouri, Gregory Walden, Lawson, Missouri, Sandra Standly, Polo, Missouri, Christopher Walden, Lee's Summit, Missouri, Charlotte, Josie and John Walden, Jr., all of Marshall, Missouri, Joshua Walden, Kansas City, Missouri, Jeffery and Jean Ann Walden, both of Carrollton, Missouri and Wyatt Walden, State of Iowa; twenty-nine great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Jane Carol Walden; two sisters, Dorthy Summers and Ann Henderson; two grandchildren, Jamie Walden and Jeremiah Walden and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Monday, January 5, 2004 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri with Reverend Lanny Lybarger officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Park Cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m., Sunday, January 4, 2004 at the funeral home.

Alta Lee Gilmer Pattie, age 82, passed away Friday, January 2, 2004 at Alpine Nursing Home in Riverside, Missouri.
She was born March 6, 1921, in Carroll County, Missouri, the daughter of John Luther and Clara May Fox Gilmer. She attended Wakenda Schools. She was a home maker and later worked in retail sales at J. C. Penney's, Taylor's Shoe Store, Patterson Clothing and John Minnis Clothing, all of Carrollton. She later worked as a receptionist for Dr. George Bailey, D.D.S. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carrollton, Missouri.
She married Glenn Herbert Pattie; he preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters, Betty Jean Patterson and husband, Neil, Powder Springs, Georgia, Glenn Etta Lee Miller and husband, Kenneth, Gladstone, Missouri; one sister, Martha Jane Sedgewick and husband, Wayne, Blue Springs, Missouri; six grandchildren, Randall R. Thomas, Jean Anne Steele, Linda Miller, Stephanie Pumphrey, Kenneth Ray Miller, Kevin Miller; two step grandchildren, Monica Talbert and Kevin Patterson; eleven great grandchildren; one step great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters, Glen Gilmer, Ray Gilmer, John C. Gilmer, Thelma Seive, Wilma Murray and Pauline Lightfoot.

Helen Mary Ann Harper Raasch, age 93, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Friday, January 2, 2004 at Carroll County Memorial Hospital Extended Care.
She was born June 29, 1910 at Miami Station, Missouri, the oldest daughter of Floyd Claude and Katie Thies Harper. She attended Burris School.
On November 27, 1928, she married Awald Edgar Raasch in Brunswick, Missouri. He preceded her in death in March 1960. Helen was a house wife, and devoted Mother. She was a member of the Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Amigo Club, V & S Club, Pea Vine Extension Club, Sunshine Society, Domestic Dames Extension Club, Lutheran Ladies Aid, and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Helen enjoyed gardening, traveling and was very devoted to her family. Very dear friends and neighbors, Mary Martha, Pat Winfrey and Ester Dodgens were caregivers in the home for Helen before she went to Carroll County Memorial Hospital Extended Care. A special thanks to Richard and Pauline Cook for regular visits to Helen at the home and care center.
Helen is survived by three daughters and one son, Lillie Audsley and husband, Eugene, DeWitt, Missouri, Thelma Valbracht, Branson, Missouri, Harold Raasch and wife, Becky, Overland Park, Kansas, Louise Fecher, Carrollton, Missouri; one sister, Lucille Miller, Lexington, Missouri; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Claude Harper; one sister, Mable Fry; and two sons-in-law, Bill Valbracht and Edmund Fecher.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri with Reverend Joe Barone officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, DeWitt, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 9-10:15 a.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests contributions be made to the DeWitt Community Center or the charity of one's choice in memory of Mrs. Raasch. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.
