Mrs. Gayel (Mary Lou Shull) Griffin, 86, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Friday, January 2, 2004, at the Carroll House Retirement Home.
Mary Lou was born August 24, 1917 in Carroll County, Missouri; the daughter of Elmo and Margaret O’dell Shull.
She attended Hale Grade School and graduated from Tina High School.
Mary Lou was married to Raymond Gayel Griffin on December 24, 1940 in Chillicothe, Missouri; he preceded her in death on November 10, 1988.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Carrollton, Missouri and the Victory Extension Club.
Mary Lou was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include four children: Dwight Griffin,and his wife, Marilyn, Carrollton, Missouri
Karen Bittiker and her husband, John, Concordia, Missouri, Duane Griffin and his wife, Sandra, Carrollton, Missouri, and Cheryl Rau, Redmond, Washington; two brothers, Gayle Shull, Excelsior Springs, Missouri and Bud Shull, Hale, Missouri; one sister, Maxine Howard, Carrollton, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Michelle Porter and her husband, George, Marshall, Missouri, Brad Griffin and his wife, Julie, Carrollton, Missouri, Susanne Leighty and her husband, Chad, Phoenix, Arizona, Tony Bittiker, Concordia, Missouri, Debbie Roath and her husband, Jeff, Marshall, Missouri, Randy Griffin and his wife, Shelda, Liberty, Missouri, Robyn Creason and her husband, Todd, Carrollton, Missouri; and Sarah Rau, New York , New York; fifteen great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Bill Shull and Joy Shull.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at the First Christian Church in Carrollton, Missouri with the Reverend Joe Barone officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church from 2:30 p.m. until service time on Tuesday.
Burial will be in the Carroll Memory Gardens, Carrollton, Missouri.
The family suggests contributions to the First Christian Church or the Alzheimers Association in memory of Mrs. Griffin and they may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 South Main, Carrollton, Missouri 64633.

Georgia M. Lueders, 100, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2004, at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, MO .
Georgia was born July 16, 1903 in Carrollton, Missouri; the daughter of Charles and Ollie Mae Moffett Bode. She attended Carrollton Grade School and graduated from Carrollton High School in 1921.
She married Louis Lueders at Carrollton, Missouri in 1942. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1984. She had worked in the Grocery business in Carrollton with her father at the Bode Grocery Store until she was married and moved to the farm near Bogard, Missouri until they retired in 1973. She was a former member of the Van Horn Christian Church and a member of the First Christian Church of Carrollton, Missouri. The Bogard/Van Horn area Baker Busy Bees, a women’s social and service organization, was an important part of Georgia’s life on the farm. Georgia was instrumental in planning, and attended an annual class reunion for seventy-one consecutive years. Mrs. Lueders also served as Vice President of the Missouri Home Economics Extension Club Council in 1949 and remained an active member for over fifty years. Her devotion to life-long learning and service was evident in her involvement in church, family, community and politics.
She is survived by one niece, Charlynn Marie Faulk Davis and husband, Dan, of Carrollton, MO, three Great-Nephews, Dan L. Davis of Warrensburg, MO, Michael Davis of Bosworth, MO and David Davis of Overland Park, KS and one Great-Niece, Cherry Vickers of Fort Meyers, Florida.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Marie Faulk.
Graveside services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery at Carrollton, Missouri on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at 1:30 P.M., with Reverend Joe Barone officiating.
Visitation will be at the Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton, Missouri on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until 1:15 P.M prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or the Carrollton Senior Center.

Earl L. Hawkins, age 85, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at Lafayette Regional Hospital, Lexington, Missouri.
He was born December 28, 1918 in Carroll County, Missouri, the son of Leonard T. and Cora Mae Schutz Hawkins. He attended Hood Grade School and graduated from Bogard High School.
On April 12, 1941, he married Mary Earlene Leakey in Macon, Missouri. She survives at the home. Earl was a farmer and raised cattle. He had served on the Leslie Township Board, Antioch Cemetery Board, and was a member of the Bethany Church of the Brethren at Stet, Missouri.
He is also survived by one son, Melvin E. Hawkins and wife, Patricia, Carrollton, Missouri; two daughters, Phyllis M. Pennington and husband, Robert Dean, Bogard, Missouri, Mary Ann Gross and husband, Philip, Independence, Missouri; one sister, Clara Leakey, Braymer, Missouri; nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Miley, and one sister, Lorene Lucille Hilton.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2004 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, with Reverend Bert Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery, Norborne, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2004 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Antioch Cemetery in memory of Mr. Hawkins. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.

Curtis Dean Magruder, age 44, of Wood Heights, Missouri, passed away Friday, January 9, 2004 at North Kansas City Hospital. He was born August 9, 1959 in Carrollton, Missouri, the son of James and Darla Scarbrough Magruder. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School and Carrollton High School. He married Carol Cornwell on November 11, 1989 at the Southside Baptist Church in Carrollton, Missouri. He worked at the K.C. Envelope Company as a machine adjuster in Kansas City, Missouri. He was Councilman for Wood Heights, Missouri for one year; and a member of the St. Ann's Catholic Church in Excelsior Springs, Missouri; and a member of AA for ten years. He is survived by his wife, Carol, of the home; one son, Curtis Lee Hamilton, Excelsior Springs, Missouri; two sisters, Annette Kirchhoff and husband, Steve, Concordia, Missouri, Robin Hamm and husband, Michael, Carrollton, Missouri; one grandson, Britt Hamilton, Excelsior Springs, Missouri; fourteen nieces and nephews and eight great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Magruder, his grandparents, L.B. and Elizabeth Magruder and grandfather, Clarence Scarbrough and grandmother Irene Mattox. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m., Monday, January 12, 2004 at Carroll Memory Gardens, Carrollton, Missouri. Visitation will be from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Sunday, January 11, 2004 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri. The family suggests contributions be made to the family's choice in memory of Mr. Magruder. They may be mailed to or left at Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.

Lottie Viola Joseph, age 97, of Triplett, Missouri, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2004 at her home. She was born on August 31, 1906 at Metz, Missouri the daughter of Stephen and Mayde Firris Carson. She married Roy S. Joseph on March 11, 1931. He preceded her in death on November 21, 1978. She had been a house wife and loving Mother andGrandmother. She had attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Ostermann of Triplett, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and thirteen great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Ruth Highland and Mary Periman, and one brother, Bill Carson. Graveside services were held on Friday, January 16, 2004 at 2:30 p.m., in the Elliott Grove Cemetery, Brunswick, Missouri, with Gail Brown officiating. Funeral arrangements were by Gibson Funeral Home, Brunswick, Missouri.

Eva V. Chaney, age 85, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Friday, January 16, 2004 at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton, Missouri.
She was born November 13, 1918 in Carrollton, Missouri, the daughter of Curtis Harrison and Ida Sue Higginbotham Chaney. She graduated from Carrollton High School. Eva was the manager of the Carrollton License Bureau for a number of years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Carrollton, Missouri.
She is survived by cousins, Sue Trefz Cook, Janice Weber Marten, Cassie Trefz Braxdale and Susan Trefz Laitner.
Her parents preceded her in death. Her brother, Maurice Harrison Chaney, preceded her in death on March 3, 1980.
The Rosary will begin at 9:45 a.m., with funeral services at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Carrollton, Missouri with Reverend Ken Criqui officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri.
Contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Gibson Funeral Home in memory of Ms. Chaney. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.

Ethel L. (Bell) Herring, age 74 of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Friday, January 16, 2004 at her home.
She was born March 29, 1929 in Stet, Missouri, the daughter of Albert and Minnie Lungren Folkes. She attended Miami Station Grade School and Carrollton High School.
On May 17, 1949, she married Earl Edwin Bell in Carrollton, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1977; later she married Henry Franklin Herring on May 23, 2000, in Stover, Missouri.
She worked for thirty seven years at Wetzel Hospital and Carroll County Memorial Hospital as a Nurse.
She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Christian Church. She was also a member of the Liberty Extension Club, and a 4 H Project Leader. Ethel was also involved in the Carrollton Area Center For The Arts.
Ethel is survived by two daughters and one son, LuAnna Mae Klote and husband, Paul, of Mason, Ohio, Kathryn Earlene Sewell and husband, Lonnie, Mooresville, Missouri, Kenneth Edward Bell and Wife, Terry, Carrollton, Missouri; four step-children, Ronald Herring and wife, Dayna,of Braymer, Missouri, Ed Herring and wife, Kim, of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, Denny Herring and wife, Connie, of Braymer, Missouri, Debbie Gardner and husband, Jeff, of Chillicothe, Missouri; three brothers, Alfred Lungren of Nettleton, Missouri, Harold Lungren and wife, Charlene of KansasCity, Missouri, Robert Lungren of San Marcos, California; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; ten step grandchildren and one step great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Laveta, two brothers, Wayne and Jesse and step father, Lawrence.
Funeral Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, January 19, 2004 at the Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri with Pastor Jeff Maxwell officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri.
Memorials may be made to the Carroll County Senior Center, Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Jefferson Park or Family Choice. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton, Missouri, 64633.

Bernice E. Gross, age 86, of Bosworth, Missouri, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2004 at her home.
She was born February 6, 1917 in DeWitt, Missouri, the daughter of Henry Auburn and Avis Olena Newsom Pennington. She graduated from DeWitt High School.
On April 2, 1936, she married Donald H. Gross at the home of her parents in DeWitt. He preceded her in death on November 4, 1997. Bernice was a housewife and mother. She was a member of the Bosworth Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Gayle Fisher and husband, Lee Allen, Hale, Missouri, Sharon Parker and husband, Arnold, Independence, Missouri; one brother-in-law, Bob Wilson, Bosworth, Missouri; five grandchildren, Dennis Parker, Dustin Parker, Stacy Fazenbaker, Mark Fisher, Scott Fisher; ten great grandchildren, Holly, Cody and Mason Parker, Jade and Tyler Fazenbaker, Clayton, Chase, Riley, Megan and Sydni Fisher and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents and two sisters, Anna N. Wilson and Lucille Lockard, also preceded Bernice in death.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at Gibson Funeral Home, Bosworth, Missouri with Pastor Jeff Maxwell officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, DeWitt, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 12:30-1:45 p.m., Tuesday before the service.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Carroll County Senior Center or H.E.L.P. Services in memory of Bernice. They may be mailed to or left at Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.

Abbey Nicole Scott, age 20, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2004 at Carrollton, Missouri.
She was born March 5, 1983, the daughter of Dana and Sheila Kimbrough Scott, in Chillicothe, Missouri. She graduated from Carrollton High School in 2002 where her extracurricular activities had been SADD and Student Council; she had played volleyball, basketball and was on the girl’s track team; and a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club. She had played Little League and ASA Softball and was involved in 4-H. Currently, Abbey attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She was employed at Shirley’s Shoes and Boots in Carrollton. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Carrollton, where she had served as a Deacon.
Abbey is survived by her parents and brother, Dana, Sheila and Zachary William Scott, Carrollton, Missouri; her daughter, Skylar Morgan Dennis; her maternal grandparents, Dooley and Marion Kimbrough, Norborne, Missouri; and her paternal grandparents, Charles and JoAnn Staton, Carrollton, Missouri.
Her paternal grandfather, John William Scott, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at the First Christian Church, Carrollton, Missouri with Reverend Joe Barone officiating. Burial will be in Carroll Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at the church.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Skylar Morgan Dennis Education Fund in memory of Abbey. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.

Amy Nicole Albert, age 22, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2004 at Carrollton, Missouri.
She was born August 1, 1981 in Carrollton, Missouri, the daughter of Larry L., Jr. and Katheryn E. Schlueter Albert. She attended Wakenda Elementery School and graduated from Carrollton High School in 1999. She had worked at J. B.’s Steakhouse, the Carrollton Library and Mulch’s in Carrollton.
Nikki is survived by her parents; one sister, Cara Albert; one brother, Cody Albert; her paternal grandparents, Larry, Sr. and Sally Albert, Carrollton, Missouri; her maternal grandfather, Art Schlueter, Carrollton, Missouri; paternal great grandmother, Geraldine Albert, Carrollton, Missouri; paternal grandparents, Jack and Sharon Corf, Bogard, Missouri; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her maternal grandmother, Ruth Schlueter and one cousin, Colby Albert, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at the Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri with Reverend Pat Gorsett officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 5:30-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at the funeral home.
