CHESTER EUGENE FLINT
Chester Eugene Flint, 69, the son of George, Thomas and Mary Ruth (Phillips) Flint was born Dec. 28, 1931, in Vernon County and passed from this life on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at the Nevada.
Chester attended Coal Creek Elementary School and was a 1950 graduate of Schell City High School. At the age of 16, he began farming on his own, the occupation that he continued his entire life.
In 1951, Chester met Freda Beatrice Potter, a young schoolteacher in Schell City. On Feb. 1, 1952, the two were married at the Kings Point Baptist Parsonage in Lockwood, where they were nearly late for their own wedding due to flood waters along their destination...but they did arrive. To their union, three children were born, two sons and one daughter.
Chester and Freda continued to farm while raising the children. Once the youngest was school age, Freda resumed work with the school district this time as bookkeeper in the school's administrative offices.
Chester lived his entire life on the family farm and was always known to be a good neighbor and friend to all. Every morning he could be found guarding the door at Madalyn's and later drinking coffee with the early morning crew. Fortunately, Chester was never forced to retire and was always able to take care of his cattle, something he loved to do. His hobbies included hunting and collecting toy tractors. Chester was also a member of the First Baptist Church in El Dorado Springs.
Survivors include his wife, Freda, of the home in Harwood; two sons, Larry Flint and his wife, Janice, also of Harwood and Roger Flint-Shawnee, OK; one daughter, Karen Miller, and her husband, Ronald-Jefferson City; one brother, Tom Flint- Greenwood, MO; three sisters-Beth Hulet-Phoenix, AZ; Dorothy Meyer and Sue Walter, both of Joplin; three grandchildren-Larry Jr., Sara and Leo Flint; cousins; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 18 at the First Baptist Church in Schell City with Pastor Larry Nail officiating. Musical selections were provided by Janice Flint. Pallbearers were Ted Thomas, Sam Vantellman, Jim Goodman, Kenny Hallam, Wade Rapp and Bill Starkey. Honorary pallbearers were Floyd Smith, Jim Beaman, B.D. Dickbreder, Eldon Powell, John Lewis and Kenny Shelton. Interment was in the Green Lawn Cemetery, in Schell City under the direction of the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home, Schell City.

HAZEL BELLE SKAKAL
Hazel Belle Skakal, 69, of Fort Scott, KS, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at Fort Scott Mercy Hospital. She was born, Sept. 18, 1932, in Devon, KS, the daughter of Alma Kenneth and Claribel Hockett Hillman. She married Carl David Skakal on June 21, 1976, in Coffeyville, KS. He preceded her in death in 1992.
She was the Activity Director for the Fort Scott Medicalodge. She was a member of the Branson Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters-Sharon Gutierrez- Chanute, KS, Lori Reagan-Blue Mound, KS, and Theresa Holt- Canon City, CO; one sister, Euleta Pratt-Mound City, KS, seven grandchildren and one great grandson. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Steven Marker, her parents, one brother, Kenneth Hillman, and one sister, Betty Noah.
Services were Monday, Dec. 24, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall, Fort Scott.
Burial was in the El Dorado Springs Cemetery in El Dorado Springs.
Services were under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.

ROY WILSON VOGT
Roy Wilson Vogt, 85, the son of George William and Gertie Mae (Wagoner) Vogt was born Feb. 2, 1916, on the family farm in St. Clair County and passed from this life on Dec. 19, 2001, at the Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, KS.
Roy attended both Stoney Point and Prairie Valley schools and was a 1933 graduate of Schell City High School. For a time Roy moved to Idaho to work on a ranch but soon decided that he would prefer to be closer to family in this area, returning after a short time.
On Nov. 27, 1941, Roy was united in marriage to Ina Alene Brown at the home of Pastor Kenneth Nichols in Schell City. The newlyweds set up housekeeping just inside the St. Clair County line. It was while living there that their daughter, Lovell, was born. In 1946 the family moved to the farm in Schell City that both called home the rest of their lives.
Roy worked as a farmer and spent many weekends showing quarter horses in the area winning many trophies and awards. For 24 years he was a school bus driver for the Schell City School District. He was also an over fifty year member of Schell City Lodge #448 AF and AM. In 1994 he was named Grand Marshall of the Schell City Fall Festival. He was also a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Roy could be seen daily at the Schell City Cafe or Madalyn's Kitchen sitting at the Liar's Table and catching up on the daily news. Everyone around could spot Roy “roaring” to town in the pickup that he called “Pinky”. He will be sadly missed by family and those of us who kept a close eye on him.
Survivors include one daughter, Lovell Cossins, and her husband, Ross, of Olathe, KS; three grandchildren-Rashell Roth and her husband, Alan-Kansas City; Monty Maus and his wife, Sara-Olathe, KS; and Debra Dehmer-Lee's Summit; six great grandchildren-Jacob and Jessica Maus; Maggy, Mason and Emma Roth; and Justin Dehmer; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and his wife, Alene, who passed away July 17, 2000.
Services for Roy Wilson Vogt were held Friday, Dec. 21, at the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City with Pastor Marvin Jamison officiating. Musical selections were provided by Sharon Goodman and Diane Eslinger. Pallbearers were Terry McKinney, Dale Stark, Charlie Prough, Larry Dade, Justin Dehmer and Jacob Maus. Interment was in the Green Lawn Cemetery, Schell City. Memorial contributions are suggested to Schell City Community Betterment or Fair Haven Park in care of the funeral home.

MAE MAXWELL
Mae Maxwell, a resident of Rest Haven, El Dorado Springs, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2001. Services are pending at Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home.

ROBERT NEAL DAINS
Robert Neal Dains, 82, the second son of S.B. and Irene Loftin Dains, was born May 9, 1919, west of Monegaw Springs and passed away Dec. 18, 2001, near Taberville.
He attended Prairie Home School through the 8th grade. Robert was united in marriage to Dorothy Motley on Aug. 27, 1941. To this union a son, Robert Jr. and a daughter, Betty, were born.
Bob and Dorothy enjoyed 60 years together, first as crop and livestock farmers in the Prairie home school district, then in the late 70's nearing retirement age they launched a very different occupation and life south of Taberville in Speedwell Township, supervising building and maintaining many ponds and lakes preparatory to channel catfish farming. They intermingled these with many bait fish and thus Dains Fish Farm had its beginning.
Bob was an honest, hard working man who made a good life for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Robert Jr. and brothers Emmitt and Willard.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Betty; grandson, Robert L. and wife, Sharon; and great grandchildren, Willy and Ashlie; his sisters, Laverne and Mary and Brother Jay D.; many nephews and nieces; cousins by the dozens, friends and neighbors.
Services were held Saturday, Dec. 22, at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel in Osceola with Rev. Sam Masten. Music was provided by Angie Howerton, Jim Powell and Roger Powell. Casketbearers were Lindell Marshall, Orville Oehring, Albert Mallicoat, Michael Mallicoat, Duane Dalton and Steve Schlichting. Interment was in the Osceola Cemetery.

DAVID D. PHILLIPS
David D. Phillips, 69, Joplin, formerly of El Dorado Springs, was born July 2, 1931, in Omaha, NE.
He departed this life on Sunday, June 17, 2001, in a Joplin care center. He was well known in the El Dorado/California and Amber and Matt Helm-El Dorado Springs; one great-granddaughter, Rilyn Phillips-TX, due to complications from a lengthy illness. He was born in Taberville on June 5, 1932, the son of Ralph and Anna Mae Boch Logan.
Don is survived by his wife, Catherine; six children-Stephen, Robert, Donald Jr., Richard, James and Kimberly; two step children; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Along with his large family, Don had a large heart filled with love and giving. He enjoyed traveling in his recreational vehicle across the United States, that for so many years, he helped defend.
Donald was retired in 1992 from the National Guard, but had also served with the Air Force, the Navy and the Army. He was also retired from the Forestry Services.
He was an active member of the Special Military Active/Retired Travel Club (SMART), the Royal Order of Masons and the Veteran of Foreign Wars.
Donald leaves a world of friends and family.
Services were held on Tuesday afternoon, July 10, at the Hackleman Chapel with Rev. G.H. Sublett officiating. Interment was in the Taberville Cemetery under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Stephen Logan, Donald Logan Jr., James Logan, Richard Logan, Robert Logan and Mark Collier.
