Vernie McCarthy

Vernie Lavalie McCarthy, 74, of Gideon, Mo., formerly of Malden, Mo., died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at the Gideon Care Center.

Born May 4, 1928, in Jasper Co., Ala., daughter of the late Forrest and Martha Adline Golden Holmes, she was of the Pentecostal faith.

She married James McCarthy, who preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1986. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Roosevelt, Houston and William Holmes and three sisters, Rosie Matlock, Gacie Cullum and Florence Youngerman.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Sue Cullum, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and Janie Bates, of Williamsville, Mo.; four sons, James William McCarthy, of Bernie, Mo., James Edward McCarthy, of Campbell, Mo., Jeffery McCarthy, of Malden and Clarence Lynn McCarthy, of Risco, Mo.; one sister, Louise Morris, of Bernie; one brother, Amos A. Holmes, of Flint, Mich; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden.

Burial was in the Memorial Park cemetery at Malden.

Bernice Peters

Bernice Lane Peters, 92, of Senath, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at the Senath Nursing Home.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 5, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Senath.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the Assembly of God Church in Senath with the Rev. Wayland Tom officiating.

Burial will follow at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.

Lois Scott

Lois Anna Belle Scott, 75, of Risco, Mo., died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at Beverly Health & Rehab in New Madrid, Mo.

Born June 4, 1927, in Corning, Ark., daughter of the late George Walter and Florence Shaver Mays, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Risco.

On Jan. 18, 1942, in Risco, she married Lewis Alfred Scott, who preceded her in death on April 4, 1990.

Survivors include three sons, Alvin Ray Scott, of Bach, Okla. and Carl Clifton and Lewis Walter Scott, both of Risco; one brother, Walter Ivy, of New Madrid; one sister, Ruby Baker, of Jonesboro, Ark.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 5, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gene Lancaster officiating.

Burial will follow at the Memorial Park cemetery in Malden.

Edna Sherrell

Edna Sherrell, 95, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at River Oaks Care Center in Steele, Mo.

Born Feb. 18, 1907, in Braggadocio, daughter of the late Robert and Emma Pullam Hamlett, she was employed at Brown Shoe Company.

In 1929, she married William Marshall Sherrell, who preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 1988. She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Susan Andrews Sturm; seven sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include one daughter, Marcelle Andrews, of Caruthersville; one granddaughter, Jeanne Cagle, of Caruthersville and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with Tommy Day officiating.

Burial was in the Little Prairie cemetery at Caruthersville.

Pallbearers were Johnny Hosler, A.C. Wells, David and Cecil House, Hansel Morgan and Tommy Clayton.

David Dare

David Dare, 70, of Hayti, Mo., died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Bradshaw-Osburn Funeral Home of Hayti.

Vera Huff

Vera Huff, 75, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., formerly of Kennett, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born Jan. 21, 1927, in Flat River, Mo., daughter of the late Edward J. and Roma E. Dalton Bradley, she was a bookkeeper for a bowling alley and a golf course in Caruthersville, Mo. and a golf course in Kennett. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Kennett.

She married Carter Lynn Huff in New York. He preceded her in death in Deceamber 1989. She was also preceded in death by one brother.

Survivors include three brothers, Edward T. Bradley, of Farmington, Mo., Jerry F. Bradley, of Cahokia, Ill. and Bobby Joe Bradley, of New Bridgton, Pa. and one sister, Helen Owens, of Cape Girardeau.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at the Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home Chapel in Cape Girardeau with David Bragg and Johnny Hester officiating.

Burial was in the Lorimier cemetery.

Bernice Peters

Bernice Lane Peters, 92, of Senath, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at the Senath Nursing Center.

Born March 28, 1920, in Lexington, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Jirden and Ellie Newman Autry. On July 30, 1927, in Leachviille, Ark., she married Howard Lane, who preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 1971. She was also preceded in death by two infant sons; two brothers, Willie and Jimmy Neal Autry; two grandsons, Jackie and Myron Wommack and one sister, Abel Bullington.

Survivors include three sons, Jimmy 'Pete' Lane, of Clarksdale, Miss. and Joe and Jirden Lane, both of Senath; four daughters, Lula Wommack, of Senath, Willie Barham, of Hornersville, Mo., Margie Crites, of Kennett and Rita Ray Wildy, of Leachville; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the Assembly of God Church in Senath.

Burial was in the Memorial Gardens cemetery at Kennett. Pallbearers were grandsons.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Senath was in charge of arrangements.

Lorna Ray

Lorna Ray, formerly of Bernie, Mo., died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at St. Peters Manor Nursing Home in St. Peters, Mo.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.

Betty Collier

Betty Cravens Collier, 98, of Kennett, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at the Heritage Nursing Center.

Born Aug. 15, 1904, in Lilbourn, Mo., daughter of the late L.B. and Martha Jane Cravens, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kennett.

She married James A. Collier, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two half-brothers and one half-sister.

Survivors include one son, Jim Collier and wife, Flo, of Kennett; four grandchildren, Kay Collier and Matthew David Collier and wife, Beth, all of St. Louis, Mo., James C. Collier, Jr., of Manhattan Beach, Calif. and Michele Dewberry and husband, Jerry, of Minneapolis, Minn.; two great-grandsons, Noel Bankhead, of Charlotte, N.C. and Nick Bankhead, of Baltimore, Md. and two great-granddaughters, Nicole and Maddie Collier, both of Manhattan Beach.

Funeral servicecs were held at 1:30 p.m. today, Thursday, Nov. 7, at the First United Methodist Church in Kennett with the Revs. Michael Kelpe and Paul Lanning officiating.

Burial was in the Mounds Park cemetery at Lilbourn.

Pallbearers were Jimmy and Matt Collier, Greg Colwick, Ward Billings, Jimmy Cravens and Jim Colhouer.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett was in charge of arrangements.

George Harrison

George William "Bill" Harrison, 82, of Green Bay, Wis., formerly of Clarkton, Mo., died Tueday, Nov. 5, 2002.

Born June 23, 1920, in Clarkton, son of the late Walter and Lena Mae Ray Harrison, he was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during WWII and a lifetime member of the Nobel Straubel V.F.W. Post No. 2037 in Green Bay. He worked as a machinist for Chicago Northwestern Railroad in Green Bay.

On Nov. 14, 1953, in Missouri, he married Mary Ann Joyce, who preceded him in death on Sept. 19, 1989. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Winford and two infants, Alfred Joe and Eugene and two sisters, Louise Radford and Dorothy Miller.

Survivors include five children, Guy Harrison and wife, Kathy, Mary Bultman and husband, Wayne and Dan Harrison, all of Green Bay, Ann DeVillers and husband, Scott, of Oneida, Wis. and Katie Monfils and husband, Rod, of Brussels, Wis.; 12 grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, Michelle, Dylan, Alie, Quinn, Matthew and Brian, all of Green Bay, Kyle and Emily, of Oneida and Amanda and Adam, of Brussels; two brothers, Bob Harrison and wife, Lois, of Pollard, Ark. and Walter "Farris" Harrison, of Meza, Ariz.; and three sisters, Missie Battles and husband, Cliff, of Festus, Mo., June Battles, of Portageville, Mo. and Eva Mae Currans, of Palocious, Texas.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at Schauer & Schumacher Funeral Home in Green Bay.

Funeral services will be held at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at St. Willebrord Catholic Church in Green Bay with the Rev. Kenneth J. DeGroot O. Praem officiating.

Burial will follow at the Fort Howard Memorial Park cemetery in Green Bay.

Lorna Ray

Lorna Belle Ray, 93, of St. Peters, Mo., formerly of Bernie, Mo., died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at the St. Peters Manor Nursing Home.

Born Aug. 1, 1909, in Petersburg, Ill., daughter of the late Matthew and Chloe Jane Collins Sinclair, she was a member of the Sugar Tree General Baptist Church in Bernie and also attended the Missionary Alliance Church in Bernie. She was a seamstress at the Garment Factory in Malden, Mo.

In March, 1935, in Petersburg, she married Dolen Brooks Ray, who preceded her in death in March, 1971. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Dolen Ray, Jr. and Charles Ray Sinclair; four daughters, Eunice Radamacher, Donna Mattingly and Versal and Chloe Ray; two brothers, John and Raymond Sinclair and three sisters, Thelma Kren, Laura Walsh and Emmaline Morris.

Survivors include one son, John Ray, of O'Fallon, Mo.; two daughters, Elsie Keller, of Malden and Ethyle Enderle, of Fisk, Mo.; one brother, Dale Sinclair; one sister, Louise Janet, of Petersburg; 20 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott Keller officiating.

Burial will follow at the Bernie cemetery.

Jimmy Cowell

Jimmy Cowell, 59, of Clarkton, Mo., died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden, Mo.
