Bobby Williams

Bobby W. Williams, 55, of Kennett, died Friday, November 8, 2002, at his home.

Born July 12, 1947 at Maynard, Ark., a son of the late Charlie and Dollie Skeff Williams, he was a carpenter and auto repair mechanic. He was of the Pentecostal faith.

On January 25, 1980, at Arlington, Ky., he married Rita Campbell, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include four sons, Bobby W. Williams, Jr. of Villa Ridge, Ill., Jackie Williams of Cairo, Ill., Joseph Williams of Jonesboro, Ill. and Timothy Williams of Mounds, Ill.; two step-son, Jason Russell of Dexter, Mo., and Billy Patula of Marion, Ill.; a step-daughter, Bobbie Myers of Bloofmield, Mo.; three brothers, Bill Williams of Mounds, Jerry Williams of Villa Ridge, and Don Williams of Cardwell, Mo.; four sisters, Bernice Pyle of Sacramento, Calif., May Morris of Mounds, Rosemary Shown and Jane Willard, both of Kennett; 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Noah Williams and one sister, Pauline Ward.

Funeral services are 2:30 p.m. today, Sunday, November 10, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home Chapel in Dexter, Mo, with the Rev. David Henderson officiating.

Burial was in Liberty cemetery near Bloomfield.

Gussie Jones

Mrs. Gussie Jones died of natural causes Sunday, November 17, 2002, at her home in St. Louis, Mo. She was 93 years old. She lived a long, blessed and full life. Mrs. Jones was the mother of the late Gussie Lee Turner, longtime Jonesboro resident.

Mrs. Jones will be remembered at a visitation service on Friday, November 22, 2002, between 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Her Homegoing Celebration (funeral) will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2002 at noon. Both services will take place at Metro Christian Worship Center, 3452 Potomac, St. Louis, Missouri, 63118. A burial service will be held for Gussie Jones at Oaklawn cemetery, Jonesboro, Arkansas at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2002. Memorials may be given in the name of Gussie Jones to the American Diabetes Association.

Gussie Mae Lee Griffin (ML as her family called her) was born October 20, 1909 near Dekalb in kemper County, Mississippi. She was the oldest daughter of Cora (Houston) and Luke 'Buck' Griffin. Her parents were farmers and moved from Mississippi to several towns in Arkansas before settling in Earle, Arkansas. Gussie moved to Kennett, Missouri in 1938 and married Robert (Bob) Jones in 1940. Bob and Gussie raised one daughter, Gussie Lee Jones.

Gussie had a long career as a domestic and retired at age 65. She was active in her church and community in Kennett. She loved to cook, and was quite good at it. Another passion was gardening; her entire yard was filled with plants, fruit trees and flowers. She grew most of the vegetables she cooked.

Her husband, Bob Jones, three of her siblings, Roosevelt, Viola and Gertrude, and her daughter, Gussie Lee Turner, preceded Gussine Jones in death.

In 1995, Gussie moved to St. Louis, Missouri to live with her youngest granddaughter, Debbye Turner. She attended Metro Christian Worship Center where her pastors are Raphael and Brenda Green. She was loved and adored by all who met her.

Gussie is survived by her sister, Hattie Mason; her granddaughters, Debbye Turner and Suzette Turner Caldwell; Suzette's husband, Kirbyjon Caldwell; three great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Professional services have been entrusted to Austin A. Layne Mortuary in St. Louis, Missouri and Langford Funeral Service in Jonesboro, Ark.

Harvie Adams

Harvie Gene Adams, 52, of Gideon, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002,, at Gideon Care Center in Gideon.

Born Aug. 25, 1950, at Gobler, Mo., he was a son of the late Elmer Clyde and Zona Mae Rhymer Adams.

On April 18, 2000, at Gideon, he married Millie Marie Eaves Kettles, who survives.

Other survivors include two brothers, Russell Adams and Basil Adams, both of Arkansas; one sister, Sadie Foley, of California; one step-daughter, Elizabeth Slayton of Vandalia, Mo. and three step-grandchildren.

Visitation is 5 p.m. today, Sunday, Nov. 24, at Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Gideon.

Bobby Burdin

Bobby Burdin, 48, of Kennett, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at his residence.

Born Jan. 15, 1954 in Rector, Ark., he was a son of Frances Mitchell Wilcoxson of Rector, and the late James Edward Burdin.

He married Jeannie Burton who preceded him in death Feb. 28, 1998 and later married Myrtleen Burton who survives. Other survivors include three step-sons, Joey Wilburn and Jimmy Don Wilburn, both of Kennett and Michael Wilburn of Nashville, Tenn.; three step-daughters, Stephanie Reeves of Kennett and Dana Ward and Darnelle Roberts, both of Paragould, Ark.; two sisters, Debbie Brakebill of Damascus, Ark. and Diane White of Rector; and six step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dallas George Burdin.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Futrell Butler officiating.

Burial was in Purcell cemetery at Rector.

Pallbearers were, Donald Ward, James Willett, Sonnie Griffith, Larry and Gary Huckabay, Russell White and Bruce and Eddie Joe Brakebill.

Raymond DeMay

Raymond DeMay, 88, of Campbell, Mo., died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at his residence.

Arrangements are incomplete with Landess Funeral Home of Campbell.

Alva Ford

Alva "Buck" Ford, 88, of Hornersville, Mo., died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Born Feb. 13, 1914, in Hornersville, a son of the late John M. and Viola Belle Winkle Ford, he was a U.S. Army veteran.

On April 16, 1938, in Detroit, Mich., he married Josie Greer who preceded him in death March 14, 1978.

Survivors include two sons, Allen J. Ford and wife, Kathy, of Flint, Mich. and Dennis Ford and wife, Jo Ann, of Cordova, Tenn.; a brother, Hadley Ford of Springfield, Mo.; a sister, Phyllis Crawford of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Valerie McKinley, Kimberly Hudson, Pamela Belle, Elizabeth Noe, Gregory Lipe, Angela Cohen, Kevin Lipe and Sarah Ellis; and nine great-grandchildren, John Tyler, Luke Evan, Elicole, Breanne, Brice, Alan, Alex, Benjamin and Jack.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Benjamin Franklin "Dubb" Ford, Anderson Ance Ford and John M. Ford, Jr.; and two sisters, Hester Ford and Mildred Taylor.

Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 23, at the First Baptist Church in Hornersville with the Rev. Doug Clinton officiating.

Burial was in the Horner cemetery at Hornersville.

Pallbearers were Dubber Ford, Henry Ford, Alan Greer, Richard McKinley, Charlie Moody, Tom Cunningham, Dennis Ford, Allen Ford, John Tyler McKinley and Luke McKinley.

McDaniel Funeral Service of Hornersville was in charge of arrangements.

Glenda Gibbons

Glenda Lou Gibbons, 71, of Caruthersville, Mo. and formerly of Kennett, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at River Oaks Care Center in Caruthersville.

Born Aug. 21, 1931, in Clarkton, Mo., a daughter of the late Raymond H. and Imogene Gum Clayton, she was the former owner of West End Package and Westgate Motel in Kennett. She was of the Methodist faith.

On July 4, 1982, in Dyersburg, Tenn., she married Walter Laurence Gibbons, who preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1997.

Survivors include a sister, Sue Swinger and husband, Dr. Terry Swinger, of Caruthersville; a nephew, Anthony Swinger of Indianapolis, Ind. and a niece, Teleigha Clayton of Jackson, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Clayton, Jr.

Services are incomplete with Landess Funeral Home of Malden, Mo.

Jimmy Nipper, Sr.

Jimmy Lee Nipper, Sr., 70, died Nov. 20, 2002, in Pine Bluff, Ark. Born Sept. 26, 1933, in Cardwell, Mo., a son of the late Oscar D. and Alice Lucille Jackson Nipper, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include one son, John Nipper of Mount Julett, Tenn.; four daughters, Marcia Roth and Jenny Blair of Mount Julett, Tenn., Peggy Zolman of Arbyrd, and Carrie Edwards of Charlotte, N.C.; three brothers, Charles Nipper of Oklahoma and Harold and Bill Nipper of Fort Smith, Ark.; four sisters, Linda Myley of Mount Julett, Tenn., Peggy Wygle of Fort Smith, Ark., and Carolyn Polly and Lou Ann Kellman of San Antonio, Texas; and 16 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Nipper, Jr. and a sister, Lillian Wiggins.

Graveside services were 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Cardwell cemetery with the Rev. Kevin Knox officiating.

McDaniel Funeral Service of Arbyrd was in charge of arrangements.

Bertha Rettig

Bertha Evelyn Terrett Rettig, 95, of Arroyo-Grande, Calif., formerly of O'Fallon, Ill. and Hayti, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at Arroyo-Grande Care Center in Arroyo-Grande.

Born March 15, 1907, near Hayti, a daughter of the late William and Sallie Webb Terrett, she was a homemaker and a seamstress in a factory.

On Jan. 5, 1936, in Waterloo, Iowa, she married Carl Houston Rettig who preceded her in death Nov. 29, 1979. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, William, George and Jessie and seven sisters, Viola, Lillian, Nan, Melissa, Ruth, Grace and Bertie and by a granddaughter, Kayle Renee Rettig.

Survivors include on daughter, Carlotta Herbstreit of Arroyo-Grande; three sons, Larry Rettig and wife, Gerrie, of Edgewater, Fla., Bill Rettig and wife, Teresa, of O'Fallon, Ill. and Jack Rettig and wife, Judy, of Allen, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with the Rev. John Keel officiating.

Burial was in the Woodlawn cemetery in Hayti.

Mary Sanders

Mary Mildred Sanders, 68, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff.

Born Sept. 20, 1934, in Ste. Genevieve, Mo., she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Mary Moll Shrempp.

On Jan. 10, 1955 she married Clarence Eli Sanders who survives of the home. Survivors include one son, Terry Sanders and wife, Kelly, at St. John, Mo., two daughters, Ruth Warner and her husband, John, of Berkeley, Mo. and Janice Sanders of Poplar Bluff; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Elva Echo and one brother, Clifford Shrempp.

Visitation is 10 p.m. today, Sunday, Nov. 24, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel in Malden.

Graveside services are at 1 p.m. today at Stanfield cemetery at Clarkton with Debra Hamilton officiating.

Arlie Wheatley

Arlie J. Wheatley, 82, of Steele, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at Baptist Hospital-East in Memphis, Tenn.

Born Sunday, May 9, 1920, in Akins, Ark., a daughter of the late John Henry and Gertie Watson Harris, she was a retired custodian and member of the Assembly of God Church in Steele.

On June 16, 1936, she married Charles J. Wheatley who died May 15, 1988.

Survivors include eight sons, Don Wheatley of Searcy Ark., Jerry Wheatley of Springfield, Mo., Larry Wheatley of Everton, Mo., Wayne Wheatley of Washburn, Mo., Terry Wheatley of Huntsville, Ala., Mike Wheatley of Kirbyville, Mo., Tony Wheatley of Pulaski, Va., and Steve Wheatley of Steele; two daughters, Rita Gestring of Steele and Tammie Gist of Manila, Ark.; 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, Nov. 24, at the Assembly of God Church in Steele with the Revs. Wayne Wheatley, Charles Clark and John Badgley officiating.

Burial in the Mt. Zion cemetery at Steele.
