Oliver Denny

Oliver Jack Denny, 80, of Puxico, Mo., and formerly of Hayti, Mo., died Thursday, May 8, 2003, at Beverly Health Care in Bloomfield, Mo.

Born Friday, Dec. 15, 1922, at Alma, Ark., a son of the late Nathan Lewis and Stella Barkley Denny, he was a diesel mechanic.

On Nov. 24, 1944, in Wardell, Mo., he married Ruby Lucille Goodrum who preceded him in death Feb. 12, 2001. He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Robert Denny and a sister, Marie Sims.

Survivors include two daughters, Janie Hart and Linda Hart, both of Puxico; two brothers, Lee Denny of Lake St. Louis, Mo. and Gene Denny of Maryland Heights, Mo.; five sisters, Mary Pipkins of Farmington, Mo., Eva Warzel of Maryland Heights, Dalpha Braddam of DeSoto, Mo., Wanda Ferguson and Jewell Kidd, both of Farmington, Mo.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be noon until the time of services at 2 p.m. Monday, May 12, in the Bradshaw-Osburn Funeral Home in Hayti. The Rev. Dale Holman will officiate.

Burial will be in Maple cemetery at Caruthersville, Mo.

Geneva Evans

Geneva Evans, 84, of Holcomb, Mo., died Saturday, May 10, 2003, at Holcomb.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with Landess Funeral Home of Campbell.

Bob Thacker

Bob Thacker, 63, of Campbell, Mo., died Friday, May 9, 2003, at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with Landess Funeral Home of Campbell.

Mary Wheeler

Mary Bohannon Wheeler, 84, of Leachville, Ark., died Thursday, May 8, 2003, at her home.

Born in Senath, Mo., the daughter of the late James Henry and Lilly Bohannon, she was a businesswoman and member of the First Baptist Church of Leachville.

She married Joe Wheeler who survives of the home.

Also surviving are two daughters, Judy Wilson of Jonesboro, Ark. and Joan Field of Leachville; one sister, Lois Hubbard of Venice, Calif.; five grandchildren, Gena Wilson and Kurtiss Guntharp both of Jonesboro, Joe Field of Zephyrhills, Fla., Kechia Bentley of Russellville and John Field of Leachville; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers, five sisters, and one great-grandson, Austin Wheeler Bentley.

Funeral services are 3 p.m. today, Sunday, May 11, at the First Baptist Church in Leachville with the Revs. Doug Applegate and Jerry Kausler officiating.

Burial will be in Leachville cemetery.

Pallbearers are Joe Field, John Field, Don Bentley, Bob Wheeler, Larry Garrison and Jessie Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers are Jim Burrier, James Lee Poe, Dr. T.N. Rodman, Earl Wildy, Tom Marshall, Wayne Taylor, Terrell Kirby, Mac Williams, deacons of the First Baptist Church and the Baraca Sunday School class.

The family prefers any memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Leachville or the St. Bernards Hospice program.

Robert Akers

Robert Dale "Bob" Akers, 59. of Lexington, Tenn., formerly of Kennett, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at his residence.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 15, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs Johnny Hester and P.J. Hardy officiating.

Jean Cain

Jean C. Cain, 92, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Friday, May 9, 2003, at the Pemiscot Nursing Center in Hayti.

Born Dec. 17, 1920 in Hattiesburg, Miss, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Galagher and Virginia Belle Wooley Clendinning. She attended schools in McComb, Miss, and graduated from college in Hattiesburg. She taught in Mississippi and Missouri many years before retiring. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

On June 3, 1937, in Caruthersville, she married William Raymond Cain, who preceded her in death on April 19, 1962.

She is survived by two nephews, Pat Clendinning, of Brandon, Miss., and Tracy Robinson, of Huntsville, Ala. and one niece, Margo Wade, of St. Joseph, La.

Graveside services were held Sunday, May 11, at the Maple cemetery in Caruthersville with the Revs. Paul Currie and Steve Mealor officiating.

James Eakens

James Eakens, 69, of Malden, Mo., died Monday, May 12, 2003,at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden.

Geneva Evans

Geneva Evans, 84, of Holcomb, Mo., died Saturday, May 10, 2003, at her daughter's residence in Holcomb.

Born May 22, 1918 in Batesville, Ark., the daughter of the late John and Lula York Davison, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

On June 23, 1935 in New Madrid, Mo., she married Loren Evans, who preceded her in death on May 26, 1955.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Bobby Evans; one grandson, Ricky Leacn and one sister.

She is survived by a daughter, Ruth Wright, and her husband Winford, of Holcomb; two brothers, Vernie Davison and Charles Sharp; three grandchildren, Tonya Counts and Michael Wright, both of Holcomb and Terry Potts of Kennett; seven great-grandchildren, Shannon, Nicole, Justin, Josh, Mackenzie, Leigha and Jessup and five great-great-grandchildren Katel, Collen, Sidney, Nicholas and Jordan.

Funeral services were today, Tuesday, May 13, at 1 p.m. at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Campbell, Mo., with the Rev. Josh Carpenter officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery in Sikeston, Mo.

Glenn Layer

Glenn W. Layer, 79, of Jonesboro, Ark., formerly of Kennett, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, in Rector, Ark.

Born April 16, 1924, in Rector, he was the son of the late Floy and Maude Layer. He was a veteran, serving during World War II. He was a retired agriculture teacher, and he was a member of the Hopewell Missionary Baptist.

He married Mary Shannon Layer, who survives of the home.

He is also survived by two sons, Eugene and Dennis Layer, both of Jonesboro; one brother, W.O. Layer of Rector; one sister, Louise Rowton, of Rector and three grandchildren Shauna, Katie and Callie Layer.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Herbert Layer.

Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, May 13, at Mitchell Funeral Home in Rector.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Orr officiating.

Burial will follow at the Woodland Heights cemetery in Rector.

Pallbearers are Joe and Larry Pruett, Perry Mills, Anthony Rowton, Jim Shannon and John Calhoun.

Genevia Luther

Genevia Luther, 90, of Kennett, died today, Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at National Healthcare in Kennett.

Arrangements incomplete with McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett.

Mozelle Richardson

Mozelle Richardson, 91, of Campbell, Mo., died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott, Ark. Born November 26, 1911 in Campbell, she was the daughter of the late J ames Richard and Emma Jane Derryberry Richardson. She was a member of the Campbell Church of Christ.

She is survived by three nephews, Dick Richardson, of Pittsboro, N.C., Jim Richardson of Piggott and Max Richardson, of New York, N.Y. and three nieces, Ann Arnold, of New Orleans, La., Pat Keichline, of Searcy, Ark. and Jane Gray of Sedalia, Mo.

She is preceded in death by three bothers, Don, J.J. and Truman Richardson and three sisters, Regina and Gertrude Richardson and Ruth Watson.

Graveside services were held on Monday, May 12, at Woodlawn cemetery in Campbell.

Preston Semar

Preston Carl "Manny" Semar, 70, of Farmington, Mo., formerly of Kennett, died Saturday, May 10, 2003 at his residence.

Born Nov. 3, 1932 in St. Louis, Mo., son of the late Preston O. and Melba Loeffler Semar, he was raised by his grandparents, the late Leslie and Ollie Semar. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kennett, a member of the Rotary Club in which he was a Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Ionic Lodge Elvins 154 Moolah Shrine Temple Scottish Rite.

He married Shirley Merritt Semar, who survives.

Survivors also include two sons, Les Semar, and his wife, Mary, of Park Hills, Mo. and Scott Semar, and his wife, Janine, of Farmington, Mo.; two daughters, Vicki Newman and Beth Semar Williamson, both of St. Louis; four grandchildren, Jenni and Marshall Newman and Schuyler and Ian Semar and a special friend, Sue BeNage of Springfield, Mo.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, May 13, at the Horton Wamplar Memorial Chapel in Park Hills, with the Rev. Richard Combs officiating.

Burial was in St. Francis Memorial Park cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the Shriner's Children Hospital or to the United Methodist Church of Kennett.

Bobby Thacker, Sr.

Bobby Earl "Bob" Thacker, Sr., 63, of Campbell, Mo., died Friday, May 9, 2003, at his residence in Campbell.

Born July 3, 1939 in Campbell, he was the son of the late Bill and Mary Clayton Thacker. He was a retired welder for the railroad.

He was a United States Army veteran, stationed in Berlin, Germany from 1959 to 1963. He also served in the National Guard and was a past member of the Malden American Legion.

He is survived by two daughters, Gabriela Thacker and Pat Schramm, both of O'Fallon, Mo.; one son, Bobby Thacker, Jr. of Foley, Mo.; two sisters, Janice Parks of Campbell, and Gail Moore of Wascum, Tex.; four brothers, Charlie Thacker of Malden, Mo., Don and Cecil Thacker, both of Campbell and Butch Thacker, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Thacker, Jr.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, May 13, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Campbell with the Rev. Dale Shoup officiating.

Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery in Campbell.
