Michael Harris

Michael Glyn Harris, 49, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Sunday, May 25, 2003, in Caruthersville.

The son of Clara M. Swaffar Harris of Athens, Texas and the late Glyn O. Harris, he was a U.S. Army veteran and member of Glass Memorial Baptist Church. He was employed by Nucor Hickman.

On Aug. 16, 2002, in Caruthersville, he married Sallie Hawks who survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Jenipher Lyn Watson and husband, Wayne, of Ripley, Tenn., Meghan Moore and Felisha Strawn, both of Caruthersville; two sons, Christopher Michael Harris and wife, Charline, of Payne Springs, Texas and Joseph Walter Harris, and wife, Mart, of Athens; one brother, Robert A. Harris and wife, Kim, of Athens and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with Pastor Michael E. Nealy and Brother Charlie Woodard officiating.

Burial was in Little Prairie cemetery.

Pallbearers were Robert Harris, Christopher Harris, Hank Thornton, Joseph Harris, Wayne Watson and John Wallace.

Bennie Jackson

Bennie Jackson, 61, of Kennett, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Born Dec. 18, 1941, in Kennett, he was a son of the late Claude Wilson and Gertie Crawford Jackson.

He married Phyllis Stone in Kennett, who survives.

Other survivors include five sons, Scott Ivy and wife, Kim, and Michael Ivy and wife, Debbie, all of Kennett, Don Jackson and wife, Rita, of Paragould, Ark., Dave Jackson and wife, Janet, of West Plains, Mo., Terry Jackson and wife, Kim, of Campbell, Mo.; two daughters, Tony Ivy of Pass Christian, Miss. and Shawn Wood and husband, Mitch, of Oran, Mo.; four brothers, Edward Bunting of Vinton, Ind., Alfred Bunting of Burlingame, Kan., Bill Jackson of Larned, Kan., and Paul Jackson of Wichita, Kan.; three sisters, Lottie Yarbro, of Troy, Mo., Lois Crawford of Batesville, Ark. and Beverly Stracener of Kennett; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett with the Revs. Dale Rickman and Don Emery officiating.

Burial was in Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.

Pallbearers were Terry Fuller, Charles Fuller, Van Fuller, Tony Houart, Bruce Burr and Billy Paul Hogan.

Gladys Jones

Gladys Jones, 94, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems in Hayti, Mo.

Born Sept. 24, 1908, in Caruthersville, a daughter of the late John Artie and Louella Perkins Kirkpatrick, she was a member of Eastwood United Methodist Church. A 1927 graduate of Caruthersville High School, she was a sales clerk before retirement.

On Dec. 27, 1927, in Blytheville, Ark., she married Arthur "Jack" Jones who preceded her in death Feb. 20, 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, Artie Lou Stevens of Caruthersville; two sons, Jack D. Jones and wife, Ann, of Guntersville, Ala. and Lee Jones and wife, Donna, of Granite City, Ill; one sister, Bethel Dillard of Jefferson City, Mo.; two nephews and one niece, five grandchildren, Regina Fausett of Bartlett, Tenn, Lissa Brown of Guntersville, Andrea Thompson of Boaz, Ala., Duane Jones of Edwardsville, Ill. and Melissa Jones of Granite City and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Pascal Kirkpatrick and Agatha Travis.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, at H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville with the Rev. Dwight Chapman officiating.

Burial was in Pemiscot Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Darrin Jones, Duane Jones, David Fausett, Robert Travis, James Mott and Jerry Franklin.

Curtis Parks

Curtis Alvin Parks, 70, of Qulin, Mo., died Friday, May 30, 2003, at his residence.

Born May 4, 1933, in Pollard, Ark., a son of the late Sanford Marion and Oline Williams, Parks, he was a retired truck driver.

Survivors include four sons, Larry Parks of Fairfax, Va., Dave Parks and Steve Parks, both of Wentzville, Mo., Roger Parks of House Springs, Mo.; one brother, J.L. Parks of Reynolds, Mo., a step-brother, Odis Neeley of Janeyville, Mo. a step-sister, Dorothy Harrison of Farmington, Mo. and friend, Dorothy Kinney of Qulin.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Roscoe Parks and a sister, Arvella Parks.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. today, Sunday, June 1, at Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Campbell, Mo.

Graveside services are 11:30 a.m. today at the Qulin cemetery in Qulin.

Dean Parmenter

Dean Parmenter, 79, of Kennett, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at National Healthcare of Kennett.

Born Aug. 12, 1923, in Bloomfield, Mo., a son of the late Clyde and Carrie Poe Parmenter, he served in the Army Air Force in the Pacific during World War II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a retired businessman and community leader.

On June 15, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., he married Geraldine Kuhlman, who survives.

Other survivors include, two daughters, Patricia Buschjost and husband, Terry, of Loveland, Colo. and Carol Parmenter of Hanau, Germany; a sister, Arlice Hook of Kennett and one grandson, Karsen Buschjost.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Paul Lanning officiating.

Burial was in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.

Pallbearers were J.C. Skaggs, Dave Andrews, Bill Brigance, Doug Fender, Gerald Wilkison and Keith Mitchell.

William Pyles

William Richard "Rick" or "Bill" Pyles, 60, of Arbyrd, Mo., formerly of Clarkston, Mich., died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at his residence.

Born May 10, 1943, in Portageville, a son of the late Chester and Christine Tiner Pyles, he was retired from General Motors.

On June 28, 1967, he married Sherry Hyde who survives.

Other survivors include four sons, Mary Pyles of Minneapolis, Minn., Jerry Pyles and Daven Pyles and wife, Betty Lynn, all of Arbyrd, and Brian Pyles of Swartz Creek, Mich.; one brother, David Pyles and wife, Shirley, of Dexter, Mo.; six grandsons, Richard, Andrew, Nicholas, Michael, Joshua and Austin; one granddaughter, Miranda.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. today, Sunday, June 1, at McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Arbyrd.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 2, at Calvary Full Gospel Church in Cardwell with Pastor DeMint officiating.

Burial will be in Lulu cemetery near Senath, Mo.

Jean Ashabranner

Jean Ashabranner, 95, of Campbell, Mo., formerly of Manila, Ark., died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at the General Baptist Nursing Center in Campbell.

Born at Portageville, Mo., daughter of the late Joseph and Willie Sexton Downing, she was a teacher at the Manila and Campbell School Districts. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manila and a member of the United Methodist Women.

She married Clarence "Bud" Ashabranner, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Melvin Lee, Jospeh Preston, William Edward and Paul Shirley Downing.

Survivors include one sister, Peggy Stewart and husband Bryant, Jr., of Campbell.

Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at the First United Methodist Church in Manila.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at the First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Chad Downing Kingsberry and Craig Russell officiating.

Burial will follow at the Manila cemetery.

Pallbearers were Eddie Adams, Chris Bauschlicher, Jerry D. Cherry, Brady Cornish and Bryant Stewart, III.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Manila.

Howard Funeral Service of Manila was in charge of arrangements.

Everett Chidester

Everett Allan Chidester, 86, of Portageville, Mo., died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at the Portageville Nursing Center.

Born Feb. 26, 1917, in Bell City, Mo., son of the late Henry and Pearl Sanders Chidester, he was retired from the Hayti Water Plant.

In Dec. 1934., he married Dorothy Dollins, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Evelyn Johnson and Ellen Maness and two sons, Elmer and Allen Lee Chidester. S urvivors include two sons, Melvin Chidester, of Benton, Mo. and Lawrence Chidester, of Hayti; six daughters, Arlene Morefield, Geraldine Keith, Barbara Ellis, Sue Forrester and Nora Sipes, all of Portageville and Frieda Geary, of Kennett; four sisters, Nona Miller and Evie Toole, both of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Jean Skelton, of Port Charlotte, Fla. and Pearl Cochran, of Wichita, Kan.; 49 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at the Delisle Funeral Home Chapel in Portageville with the Rev. Jerry Williams officiating.

Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemtery at Hayti.

Pallbearers were Shannon, Brandon, Rodney and Shawn Chidester and Mark and Michael Shane Forrester.

James Estes

James Rowe Estes, 89, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Friday, May 30, 2003, at the Pemiscot Nursing Home in Hayti.

Born Oct. 12, 1913, in Ash Flat, Ark., son of the late James Cullam and Emma Felkens Estes, he was employed at the Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems and was of the Presbyterian faith.

On Jan. 18, 1934, in Williford, Ark., he married Virginia Gann, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include two daughters, Rosa Lee Metzger, of Hayti and Mary Virginia Shoaf, of Jefferson City, Mo.; two brothers, Howard Estes, of Freeport, Ill. and Carlton Estes, of Maryville, Ill.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Janice Estes, of Caruthersville.

He was preceded in death by one son, James Robert Estes; one sister; eight brothers and one grandson.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Pilcher officiating.

Burial was in the Maple cemetery.

Pallbearers were Vaughn and Jeff Treece, Tim Anderson, Mark Gardner, Bill Sullivan and John Metzger.

Lucille Franks

Lucille Mary Franks, 85, of Hayti, Mo., died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Born May 27, 1918, in Coahoma, Miss., daughter of the late Marion and Emma Wiltshire McKnight, she was a cook at the Pemiscot Memorial Hospital and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

On March 21, 1933, in Lepanto, Ark., she married Felix Franks, Sr., who survives of the home.

Survivors also include two sons, Walter Franks and wife Murline and A.G. Franks, Sr. and wife, Bonnie, all of Hayti; a daughter-in-law, Alma Ruth Franks, of Kennett; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Felix Franks, Jr.; one daughter, Mary Beck; three brothers and one great-grandson, George Morgan.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Hayti with the Rev. Jerry Baker officiating.

Burial was in the Pemiscot Memorial Gardens at Caruthersville, Mo.

Pallbearers were A.G. Fanks, Jr., Randy Franks, Joe Gorman, Shane Deaton, Leonard Bellew and Jim Brimhall.

John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.
