I.V. Palmer

I.V. Palmer, 80, of Kennett, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at National Health Care in Kennett.

Born May 28, 1923, in Beech Corner, Mo., she was the daughter of the late William Shelby and Nettie Angeline Lawrence McCluskey.

On Dec. 8, 1940, she married Johnie F. Palmer, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Jean; two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Palmer and wife, Priscilla, of Kennett and John Palmer and wife, Marcie, of Springfield, Tenn.; four daughters, Ann Bull and husband, John, Brenda Jones and Nina Dixon and husband, Steve, all of St. Peters, Mo. and Pam Metzger and husband, Marty, of Hayti, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 16, at the Shady Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Lewis officiating.

Burial was in the McGrew cemetery near Senath, Mo.

Pallbearers were Mitchel, Lester Gene and Jason Smith, Ben Counce, John and Leon Wilcox and Tom Leeker.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Senath was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Richards

Robert Henry Richards, 41, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Friday, June 13, 2003, at his residence.

Born Jan. 15, 1962, in Hayti, Mo., son of George Richards and Tapian Lafferty Reeves, he was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Eastwood Memorial United Methodist Church. He was self-employed.

Survivors include his mother, Tapian Reeves, of Finley, Tenn.; his father, George Richards, of Caruthersville and one sister, Judy Pohlman, of Sarasota, Fla.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 16, at the Little Prairie cemetery in Caruthersville with Edward Reeves officiating.

Pallbearers were Terry Walker, Chuck Hardesty, Charles Medlin, Jimmy Reno, Jackie Burgess, Jim Cagle, Ronnie Speidel and Tim Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers were Frank Thrasher, Daryl and Danny Taylor and Tommy Woods.

H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville was in charge of arrangements.

Polly Spitzer

Polly Ann Spitzer, 64, of Parma, Mo., died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Wentzville, Mo.

Born Dec. 23, 1938, in Clarkton, Mo., daughter of Elizabeth Tatum Daugherty and the late Tim Daugherty, she was a school teacher and a member of the Malden Presbyterian Church. She was past director of the Malden Community Choir, committee member for the BYM, past president of the Malden Country Club Ladies Golf Association and an avid supporter of the Humad Society.

On Feb. 7, 1960, in Kennett, she married Richard "Dick" Frederick Spitzer, Jr., who preceded her in death on April 14, 2001. Survivors include two daughters, Maribeth Salge and husband, Jan, of Cocoa, Fla. and Leigh Spitzer McCullough and husband, Doug, of Wentzville; one son, Richard D. Spitzer, of Houston, Texas; her mother, Elizabeth Daugherty, of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; one brother, Tim Daugherty and wife, Patricia, of Escondido, Calif. and two granddaughters, Hillary Roebuck, of Bentonville, Ark. and Morgan Spitzer, of Houston.

Graveside services for family and close friends will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, at the Elder cemetery in Campbell, Mo. with the Rev. Bob Phillips officiating.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at the Malden Presbyterian Church.

Memorials may be made to the Malden Presbyterian Church or the U.S. Humane Society, Midwest Regional Office, 1515 Linden St., Suite 220, Des Moines, Iowa 50309.

Landess Funeral Home of Malden, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.

Cora Taylor

Cora Lee Taylor, 81, of Hayti, Mo., died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Hayti.

Born Feb. 8, 1919, in Mississippi, daughter of the late Beatrice Valentine Barnett, she was a homemaker.

She married James Taylor, who preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Nathaniel Former.

Survivors include two brothers, James Former, of Carpentersville, Ill. and Tommie Former, of Elgin, Ill. and a host of other relatives.

Funeral services were held at noon Saturday, June 14, at the John W. Geman Funral Home Chapel in Hayti with the Rev. Tony Jefferson, Sr. officiating.

Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery at Hayti.

Pallbearers were family members.

James Davis

James W. Davis, 86, of Kennett, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at National Health Care in Kennett.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, June 20, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Jansson officiating.

Burial will follow at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.

Bernadine Deken

Bernadine Anna Deken, 81, of Qulin, Mo., died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at the Mark Twain Caring Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Born Oct. 5, 1921, in Glennonville, Mo., daughter of the late George and Matilda Ronspiez Fortman, she was a homemaker, a member of the St. Teresa's Catholic Church, member of the St. Teresa's Alter Society and Diocese Council of Catholic Women. She was a Girl Scout neighborhood chaiman.

On Sept. 24, 1941, in Glennonville, she married William Joseph Deken, who preceded her in death on May 24, 1999. She was also preceded in death by one son, David Deken and three sisters, Christine Wallace, Pauline Rhodes and Dorothy Nilges.

Survivors include six daughters, Rosemary Pfeffer and husband, Lowell, of Campbell, Mo., Joan Barfield, of St. Louis, Mo., Margaret Deken and husband, Darrell and Patty Cates and husband, Daniel, all of Poplar Bluff, Lucy Walters and husband, Paul, of Foresthill, Calif. and Matilda Adams and husband, David, of Springfield, Ill.; five sons, Louis Deken and wife, Carol, of Tullahoma, Tenn., Gerald Deken and wife, Carolyn and Jim Deken and wife, Liz, all of Poplar Bluff and Tom Deken and wife, Peggy and Leonard Deken and wife, Regina, all of Glennonville; two sisters, Lucille Trunko, of St. Louis and Rosella Doss, of Bonne Terre, Mo.; one brother, Robert Fortman, of St. Louis; 32 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell with Rosary at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 20, at the St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Glennonville with Father Glenn Eftink officiating.

Burial will follow at the St. Teresa's cemetery in Glennonville.

Memorials may be made to the St. Teresa's Building Fund, Rt. 1, Campbell, Mo.

Edna McGee

Edna McGee, 89, of Qulin,Mo., died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Three Rivers Healthcare-North Campus in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Born May 23, 1914, in Batesville, Ark., daughter of the late Edward G. and Fannie Margaret Case Ragle, she was a homemaker and a nurse's aide. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Qulin.

On Dec. 7, 1930, in Forrest City, Ark., she married Loyd McGee, Sr., who preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 1985.

Survivors include two sons, Loyd McGee, Jr., of Qulin and Jerry C. McGee, of Imperial, Mo.; four daughters, Margaret Robertson, of St. Louis, Mo., Dorothy DePriest and Christina Baker, both of Hazelwood, Mo. and Arlene Webb, of Qulin; two sisters, Ruth Ivie, of Cordova, Tenn. and Bobbie Finn, of West Memphis, Ark.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, June 19, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Campbell, Mo., with Brother Lynn Ham and the Rev. Don Mayo officiating.

Burial was in the Qulin cemetery.

Goldie Moore

Goldie May Moore, 86, of Qulin, Mo., formerly of Malden, Mo., died Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at her residence.

Born July 16, 1916, in Batesville, Ark., daughter of the late John and Belinda Barnes Starr, she was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.

On Aug. 29, 1931, in Malden, she married Alonzo Moore, who preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1977. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Chalfant; one son, Leman Moore; four grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include three daughters, Lou Crannick, of Festus, Mo. and Kathy Phillips and Linda Stanley, both of Malden; five sons, Johnny Moore, of Campbell, Mo., David and Gary Moore, both of Malden, Don Moore, of Wappapello, Mo. and Frank Moore, of Qulin; 39 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, June 20, at the Landess Funeral Home in Malden.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Wells officiating.

Burial will follow at the Memorial Park cemetery in Malden.

Jessie Wright

Jessie Aline Wright, 80, of Kennett, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at National Health Care in Kennett.

Born Dec. 26, 1922, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Myrtle Southerland Smith.

She married Roscoe Wright, who preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 1980. She was also preceded in death by five sons, Roscoe Jr., James, Jerry, Freddie and Roger Wright; three daughters, Diane and Sharon Kay Wright and Dorothy Tripp and two brothers, Lester and Murray Smith.

Survivors include one daughter, Pauline Evans, of Jeffersonville, Ind.; three grandchildren, Jennifer and Angela Wright and Lana Novak and two great-grandchildren, Jillian and Isaiah Novak.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, June 19, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating.

Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett.

Jackie Bostic

Jackie Bostic, 61, of Gideon, Mo., died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Bradshw Funeral Home of Malden, Mo.

Tommy Burr

Tommy Eugene Burr, 73, of Paragould, Ark., died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett.

James Davis

James W. Davis, 86, of Kennett, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at National Health Care in Kennett.

Born April 2, 1917, in Egypt, Ark., he was the son of the late James Fleming and Ellen Collins Davis.

On Dec. 4, 1934, he married Pauline Wright, who preceded him in death on Jan. 24, 1999. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Richard and David Allen Davis; two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include five sons, James Davis, of Holcomb, Mo., George Charles Davis, of Van Buren, Mo., Jerry Davis, of Campbell, Mo., Larry Davis, of Robertsdale, La. and Danny Davis, of Kennett; four daughters, Patsy Whittle, of Kennett, Peggy Simmons, of Murrieta, Calif., Carol Hairston, of Moreno Valley, Calif. and Barbara Mobley, of Winona, Mo.; 28 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. today, Friday, June 20, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Ed Jansson officiating.

Burial was in the Memorial Gardens cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Roger, Steve, Richard, Jeffrey and Greg Davis and George Jenkins.

Honorary pallbearers were John, Jerry D. and Kenny W. Davis, Mike Coulson, David McCarty and David Hairston.
