Troy Carter

Troy Carter, 74, of Warrenton, Mo., formerly of Arbyrd, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at the St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 12, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Arbyrd.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Hollywood Church of Christ with Rick Douglas officiating.

Burial will follow at the Lulu cemetery in Senath, Mo.

Dorothy Christos

Dorothy Mae Christos, 91, of Arbyrd, Mo., died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould, Ark.

Born April 24, 1910, in Hornersville, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Emmett G. and Minnie Hayes Thomas.

Survivors include two daughters, Blondena Parker and Berneda Scott, both of Arbyrd; two brothers, R.J. Thomas, of Senath, Mo. and Dwight Thomas, of Sikeston, Mo.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Add Buck and Sam Christos; one son, Mayford Buck; three brothers, Journey, Dennis and Winfred Thomas and two sisters, Dora Clark and Delouris Layne.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 12, at the First Baptist Church in Arbyrd with the Rev. Alan Cureton officiating.

Burial was in the Lulu cemetery at Senath.

Pallbearers were Darryl Goodman, Danny Camp, Vernon Williams, Mike Thomas and Randy and Sonny Ladd.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Arbyrd was in charge of arrangements.

Janie Edwards

Janie Lucille Edwards, 81, of Dexter, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at the Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

Born May 10, 1920, in Murray, Ky., daughter of the late Atle and Illa Marine Charlton, she was a homemaker and a member of Jehovah's Witnesses in Dexter.

In 1937, in Piggott, Ark., she married Tribble Elsworth Edwards, who preceded her in death in 1991.

Survivors include six sons, Gary Edwards, of Fisk, Mo., Dale and Jackie Edwards, both of Rockford, Ill., Jimmy and Micky Edwards, both of Broseley, Mo. and Benny Edwards, of Barkersfield, Calif.; two daughters, Sue Davis, of Pangburn, Ark. and Eva McNece, of Bernie, Mo.; one brother, Bill Charlton, of Nashville, Tenn.; 29 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Connie Edwards; three grandsons, Tony McNece and Jack and Shane Edwards and three sisters, Nola Mae Brown, Olivia Tucker and Maudina McCain.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 12, at the Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Rainey Funeral Chapel.

Burial will follow at the Gregory cemetery in Kennett.

Catherine Shaw

Catherine Ann Shaw, 84, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Methodist Hospital North in Memphis, Tenn.

Born Dec. 5, 1916, in Tyler, Mo., daughter of the late William and Mattie Bell Russell Fitsmaurice, she attended the Sacred Heart School in Caruthersville and was a member of the Sacred heart Church.

On Feb. 2, 1941, she married Frank B. Shaw, who preceded her in death on Oct.28, 1989.

Survivors include three sons, Mike Shaw, of Caruthersville, John Shaw, of Memphis and Russell Shaw, of Dublin, Va.; two daughters, Martha Shaw Greene, of Marion, Ark. and Betty Shaw Blurton, of Memphis; four sisters, Marguerite Bozeman, of Cottonwood Point, Mo., Martha Fitzmaurice, of Steele, Mo., Nell Weiford, of Idaho and Sally Houston, of Elaine, Ark.; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dave Lewelling officiating.

Burial was in the Little Prairie cemetery in Caruthersville.

Pallbearers were Ben, Paul Michael and Brandon Shaw, Greg and Steven Blurton and Kyle Pullam.

Orpah Wallace

Orpah Delene Wallace, 84, of Paragould, Ark., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.

Born Oct. 30, 1916, in Monette, Ark., daughter of the late John W. and Mary Shannon Crittendon, she was a homemaker and a member of the Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church.

She married John L. Wallace, who preceded her in death. Survivors include three sons, Freddie Wallace, of Kennett, Charles Wallace, of Norman, Okla. and Tommy Wallace, of Little Rock, Ark.; three daughters, Mary McPherson, of Southaven, Miss., Terry Tedder, of Memphis, Tenn. and Carolyn Dowdy, of Paragould; one sister, Pearl Jessie, of Springfield, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one son, Phillip Wallace; two grandchildren; two brothers, Bob and Woodrow Crittendon and two sisters, Elizabeth Gipson and Bertha Jackson.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 12, at the Heath Funeral Home in Paragould.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Heath Funeral Home chapel with Revs. Roger Armstrong and Everett Isom officiating.

Burial will follow at the Linwood cemetery in Paragould. Pallbearers are Tim and Chris Tedder, Michael, Eric and Johnny Wallace, Bob Pemberton, Steven McPherson, Darrell Wall and Dwight Williams.

Memorials may be made to the Griffin Memorial United Methodist Church.

Maudie Bagby

Maudie Lou Bagby, 87, of Maryland Heights, Mo. and formerly of Arbyrd, Mo., died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Brook View Nursing Home in Maryland Heights.

Born April 27, 1914, in Hornersville, she was the daughter of the late John and Nettie Williams Clark.

She married Hubert Cole, who preceded her in death. She married Fred Bagby, who also preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Herman, James, Chester and Floyd "Salty" Clark.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Wright and husband, Jim, of DeSoto, Mo. and Trudy Huey and husband, Rick, of Hickory, N.C.; one sister, Josie Pierce of St. Johns, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Loudean Clark of Arbyrd; two grandchildren, Zack Huey and Jacqueline Madison; one great-grandchild, Braden Madison; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in the McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Senath with the Rev. Wayne Wood officiating.

Burial was in the Lulu cemetery near Senath.

Pallbearers were Dennis Clark, Gaylon Clark, Jim Vickery, Jerrod Gresham, Randy Conardy and Harold Clark.

Troy Carter

Troy Eugene Carter, 74, of Warrenton, Mo. and formerly of Arbyrd, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at St. Louis University Hospital.

Born Jan. 19, 1927, in Sycamore, Mo., son of the late Milo and Mellie Warren Carter, he was an avid hunter and angler. He served in the U.S. Army in the Philippine Islands during World War II.

On June 5, 1948 in Piggott, Ark., he married Virginia Haddock, who survives of the family home.

Also surviving are two sons, Gary Carter and his wife, Marilyn, of Warrenton and Ronnie Carter of Beech Grove, Ark.; one daughter, Debi Ringling and her husband, Butch, of Warrenton; one brother, Buddy Carter of West Plains, Mo.; two sisters, Marie Sanders and Edna Newton, both of West Plains; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother- and father- in-law, Noma and C.R. Haddock, a daughter-in-law, Donna Carter, five brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in the Hollywood Church of Christ in Hollywood, Mo.

Burial was in the Lulu cemetery near Senath.

Pallbearers were Denny Haddock, Harold Fitzjerrell, Tony Carter, Scott Gilliam, Jeff Carter and Wendell Glass.

Floyd Helton, Jr.

Floyd B. Helton, Jr., 78, of Malden, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell, Mo.

Born June 25, 1925 in Piggott, Ark., son of the late Floyd B. and Ruth Ann Maples Helton, he worked in maintenance at Noranda Aluminum, Inc., at New Madrid. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II , was a member of the V.F.W. and the First Southern Baptist Church in Malden. On June 6, 1945 in Piggott, he married Velma G. Davis, who survives of the family home.

Also surviving are a son, Verlin Pendegrass of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Ella Gene Riddell of Parma, Mo., a brother, Eugene Helton of Cahokia, Ill., a sister, Betty Kirby of Brighton, Ill., nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Helton and brother, Johnny Helton.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, Oct. 14, in the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Malden with the Rev. Charley Shrum officiating.

Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery in Malden.

James Jackson

James Harold Jackson, 72, of Hayti, Mo., died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Methodist East Hospital.

Born Saturday, Jan. 26, 1929, at Risco, Mo., son of the late Watson and Lottie Wilson Jackson, he was a grocer. On Dec. 28, 1950, in Piggott, Ark., he married Lorene Diffey, who survives.

Other survivors are three sons, Richard Jackson of Ocean Spring, Miss., Mike Jackson of Kansas City, Kan. and Mark Jackson of Fredericktown, Mo.; one daughter, Ann Cutler of Portageville, Mo.; four brothers, Francis Jackson of Hardy, Ark., Truman Jackson of Thayer, Mo., Johnny Jackson of Gainesville, Ga., and Luther Jackson of Hayti; two sisters, Betty Jackson of Hayti and Dolly Busto of Memphis, Tenn. and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, Oct. 14, at Dry Bayou Baptist Church at Hayti with the Revs. Leroy Thornton and Paul Quinn officiating.

Burial will be in the Dry Bayou cemetery at Hayti under direction of Bradshaw-Osborn Funeral Home of Hayti.

Marion Cook

Marion M. "Red" Cook, 70, of Topeka, Kan., formerly of Kennett, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at his residence. Born Dec. 1, 1930, in Dunklin County, son of the late Finus D. and Laura Winchester Cook, he worked for the Shawnee County Refuse Department and the City of Topeka, until his retirement.

Survivors include one daughter, Lois J. Cook Marcum, of Topeka; one son, Simon L. Cook, of Topeka; two step-daughters, Cindy Evarts, of Topeka and Rita Dickens, of Perry, Ga.; one step-son, Albert Mason, of Topeka; two brothers, Jerry and Donald Myers, both of Kennett; two sisters, Anna "Mickey" Hobbs and Rosalee Myers, both of Kennett; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Dayton E. Cook; two brothers, Paul and Gene Cook and one sister, Patsy Myers. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Davidson Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Stormont-Vail Hospice c/o Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas, Topeka, Kan. 66608.

Ida Culp

Ida Alice Culp, 101, of St. Francis, Ark., died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell, Mo.

Born Aug. 24, 1900, in Clifton, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late William Franklin and Mary Elizabeth Kelley Ham. On Dec. 24, 1916, she married Willie Curtis Culp, who preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 1972.

Survivors include one son, Johnie Culp and wife, Dovie, of Malden, Mo.; one sister, Bonnie Cole, of Kennett; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by one son, Woodrow Culp; one infant daughter, Imogene Culp; two brothers, Arnold and Johnie Ham and four sisters, Dora Light, Bertha Ferguson, Mary Denton and Carrie Culp.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home in Piggott, Ark.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Willyne Thompson and Kevin Morris officiating.

Burial will follow in the Hall cemetery at St. Francis, Ark.
